Hell no! we yorubas are too civilised for all that nonsense.
we just fed up with the igbos continuously insulting our collective intelligence.
They should stop referring to us as "friends" when in actual fact, what they want is our land.
we have never trusted their motives.
they are just too damn slimy to deal with. better to keep them at arms length. grin
I thought I was reading a description about you people.

Who are known for backstabbing? It isn't the Igbo or Hausa. The Yoruba have always been known for treachery. It can be seen throughout your history.

How your Obas killed each other for supremacy.

You F8cking coward shouting biafra up and down from America and war? You lanky wimp, you will be finished in Nigeria. Ode nla, you deserve everything Dayokanu said, and it is directed at you alone. Make you swallow your own poison. Fool. My apologies to other Igbo's, but this worm and irritant needs to be put in his place. silly child! You just come here and regurgitate everything you learn on nairaland. The silly coward waited until i signed out to respond. fool. Ode, American warrior. ROTFLMAO!!! War ko, war ni. Before you cry for war, think again! Fool!
Now this is what I like. Show some bravado over the internet silly boy. I live in Naija if you haven't realized that by now. Port Harcourt to be exact. I just go to a university in the U.S. Aturu, you coming to the aid of your brother which is something we Igbos have realized. We stick together against you people. This was between me and Dayokanu! Not you! How did you get into this conversation? The fact remains that you are a tribalist as well. You have just watched Dayokanu and I go back and forth. And you have some nerve to call me a tribalist. We Igbos know how you Yorubas act.

Let me reiterate. Akintola deserved everything he got. Yoruba people were even dancing in the streets.

Yeah, but what's the evidence for this?

When I hear this claim it reminds me of some Benin people claiming we were in Ghana undecided Where's the proof?
There are over 100 Aro Communities in Nigeria.

Until the British firmly established authority in what became Nigeria in 1901, various peoples of Nigeria moved freely and settled in different parts of the country. Some settlements were achieved by peaceful means, others were through a mixture of diplomacy, localized wars and negotiations.

Whereas Aro Okporoenyi and Izombe typifies the first category, Aro Ndizuogu and Ndi-Eni (Ndikelionwu, Ndiowu, Ndiokparaeke, Ndiokpalaeze, Ajalli, etc.) are of the second order.

Some Aro settlements (communities) within the second order (diplomacy and negotiations) signed away their rights (of conquest) recognized at that time by international law as the strongest right of any nation.

Aro Ikwere, Aro Cameroon and Aro Ajalli, among others, have either lost their settlements or are in heated micro-battles with dominant cultures for their independence and sovereignty.

WHy all this gra gra? You people have destroyed an interesting thread. Ezeuche, you see why it is not good to throw LOW blows, you just may find someone that is willing to go lower than you. All these insults to Yoruba's, one day someone will go so low that it will hurt you. I hope you now know the feeling of your immense tribalism and how it is so disturbing. No one, not even Akintola deserved to be wiped out in this one-sided coup. The man also had a family like Ironsi, so watch what you say. Dayokanu said it was his uncle, still you kept agitating, now you are shouting war from the confines of your comfort in America. huh huh huh
Oh shut you one-sided hypocrite. I have no patience for people like you. Throwing the word tribalism around. I think most people are tribalist on Nairaland. Everyone is guilty of it. And, yes I will insult Akintola again. The stooge for Balewa. Serves him right.

I wish there'll be another war.
I have scores to settle.
I know Northerners are a bigger enemy than the Yoruba, but for some reason, I wish to fight them more. They are the ones who talk the most about the civil war. You rarely hear a Northerner bringing up the Civil War.

Igbo vs. Yoruba

Then we will decide who is the strongest once and for all.

It pains me to say this though, because I know a lot of good Yoruba though.

Eziachi:
Lets assume that the Northerner were avenging the killing of their Sarduana.
So who exactly were our Yoruba brothers avenging for?
Was it for Akintola?  As apart from Ogbomosho people, the rest were celebrating his demise?
Or was it your own son/governor (Fajuyi) who your later northern allies came at your back yard in Ibadan, picked up and killed like a chicken in your own land?
The old story use to be that Fajuyi was killed while trying to protect Ironsi, but this film has also punctured your lying sob stories.
Because the truth has always been that the guy was as victim as Ironsi was from the start to finish.
He was arrested even before the plotters (Danjuma) ever set eyes on Ironsi that evening, while Ironsi had a chance to make an attempt to escape but did not take the chance for some reason.
You seems to make up things as you go along, the new one being the moral vs immoral coup plotters of 1966 and you had placed the privilege of placing each person where it suits your pre-concieved agenda upon yourself.
Nzeogwu is now your new good guy and Ifeajuna your Mr baddie?

Only recently you were all over the place with the rubbish that Ifeajuna was Zik's cousin and when you were laughed at at such a notion, you turned into another version of them been relatives and soon you will find something else.
The truth is always straight, if you ever read myself changing what I told you 2 years ago against what it is today, I will no longer be here.
Wonderful post from a wise Igbo sage. I salute you!

It was an Igbo man. Don't you forget that.  angry

And Ironsi in his naivety promoted Hausa & Middle Belt officers. Wrong move. Should of slaughtered them instead. You don't appease the North. You show them bullets. That is the only thing they understand.

Katsumoto:
I know Eziachi and EzeUche are pretending not to see my post above so I will post it again.

Yes, bombs were dropped. People living in Lagos at that time will readily confirm this. Also, read below

'Keeping this ancient fleet in the air rapidly overwhelmed the Biafrans.  The initial value of these aircraft was the psychological effect they created in the disorganized early stage of the war.  The bombers made harassing attacks on Lagos and the Northern air fields, creating large scale panic with their erratic bombing with homemade munitions.  The helicopters likewise dampened Federal fervor on the battlefield.  Used primarily for reconnaissance, Federal soldiers soon discovered they were not safe when the Alouettes were in the air due either to aerially supported
artillery or mortar attacks, or homemade bombs dropped from the aircraft.  They quickly learned to seek cover when the helicopters were flying.'

http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/library/report/1984/SMR.htm
Your own post proves our point. Airfields where federal soldiers were located. Biafrans did not target civilian populations! Our targets were clearly strategic.

That is something your barbaric federal troops could not learn from.

I swear we Igbos are too kind. If given another chance, things would be much different.  angry

Mass grave ko, mass cementary ni. U guys are so full of BS!!!
Its a fact that Biafran dropped bombs in Lagos.
its a fact that a lot of civilians were killed as a result of these bombs dropped by the rebels.
Its also a fact that most of these civilians (killed) were yorubas.
Source please. I do not enjoy reading hearsay. If this indeed happened, where are the documents to support your nonsense. Biafrans did not kill indiscriminately like Federal troops did. That is why close to 2 million Easterners perished. Mainly, women, children and the elderly.

Even if their intention was to killed the military men, it turned out to do more harm than good because NONE of them died. It was only the civilians that were killed during the bombing.
I can answer a lot of questions, because my father is a Biafran War Veteran. And he seen action in the Mid-West, Onitsha, Umuahia, Owerri and Orlu.

Katsumoto really hates this your post because it floored his argument that the coup was an Igbo coup.

The coup was purely nationalistic but failed because of incompetence and lack of bravery.
To be frank, no Igbo man could have shot Okpara; they would have used other non-Igbos among them to do the job.
Katsumoto enjoys painting the coup as an Igbo coup.

And I agree, no Igbo man could shoot Dr. Okpara. There was too much love for that man and it would have been a conflict of interest. It would have had to be a Yoruba officer.

You can't be planning the impossible all the time.
If Ironsi had killed him earlier, Ndigbo would have been saved a lot of hassles.
Come on my brother! Nzeogwu was true patriot and a courageous man.

Now I must say he was brash, but Ojukwu knew that Nzeogwu would always be a threat to him.

Now tell me why Nzeogwu had to die?

I kind of want the capital of Nigeria to be Calabar, but the other half of the country would say that it's too southern.

Calabar is clean compared to Lagos, and not heavily invested with crime.

Then again, Calabar really is an Efik city. Don't know how it could just be hijacked from them like that.
Trust me, I don't think the good people of Calabar would like that. They don't even like Ibibios from Ikot Ekpene coming to their town buying a lot of property or Igbos.

However, Calabar is a beautiful city and it is a lot better than Lagos. My mother would take my siblings and I to Calabar for Christmas. Wonderful times.

PhysicsMHD,

Thanks for putting it in perspective.   shocked

I don't know how I feel about this. Dr. Michael Okpara is someone I had the deepest respect. However, I can see why Nzeogwu would want to do away with the old guard.

They should of got that Igbo traitor Nnamdi Azikiwe. (Personal rant)

Anyway, I still have the deepest respect for Nzeogwu, and I feel that Ojukwu had him killed. (Igbo brethren do not get mad at me).

It was everyone, I guess you don't know the history. It figures though since you don't even know your village. Igbos were being targeted in the North in Lagos. And civilians participated.
