Jhaytee4all:
I'm confused.

I see no difference tho.

In fact, ranging from one Bible version to another, some version may use 'children of God' while another may use 'sons and daughters of God'.

In a Bible I read yesterday, I was reading the book of Ezekiel when God says 'son of dust' in that version, while other version have it as 'son of man' etc.

In this context, there is a difference. Did you check the scriptural guide? Children of God are either more than one child of God or a combination of more than one child of God and sons of God.

“Sons and daughters of God” are in the same category. One masculine and the other feminine

For son of man, Jesus most times calls Himself the son of man, but for the Ezekiel context (Ezekiel 2:6), it means man I.e a son born of a man.

Don’t be confused my dear. I have created a topic on this. Click it below and follow to see the response of others for the mean time.

Could there be difference and/or similarities between being a child of God and a son of God?

1 Peter 2:2 KJV
As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:

Hebrews 5:12 KJV
For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.

Romans 8:14 KJV
For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

Romance / Does God Choose Spouse For Man Or Every Man For Himself? by FaithfulServant(m): 3:07pm On Oct 27, 2017
There have been some arguments as to whether God choose spouse for man. Some say yes, and some others conclude the negative that every man is left with his own will to make choice for himself.

While God does make choice for man, He doesn’t compel anyone to accept the choice. God gives everyone the freewill to either accept the choice or not; just the same way He gives everyone the freewill to either do good or evil. But there are always future consequences for going contrary to the will of the almighty God and anyone who does so, should be ready to bear the consequences.

The first marriage between Adam and Eve presided by God Himself signify that God still choose spouse for man. It was God who formed Eve for Adam and brought her to him (Genesis 2:21-22). Adam could have said she was not his choice but he accepted instead and professed his admiration for her and they were declared husband and wife (Genesis 2:23-24).

Since the fall of Adam and the fall of man and after sin came into the world, man could no longer dwell in the presence of God for God to make choice for them. Man was driven from the presence of God (Genesis 3:24) not only to till the ground from which he was taken (Genesis 3:23), but to live life all for himself and by himself including making choices for himself. God who doesn’t want man to remain in this state provided a remedy for man by sending His Son Jesus to restore that lost relationship between the Father and children (1 Timothy 2:5; John 14:6).

1 Timothy 2:5 KJV: “For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;”

Through Jesus our relationship with God is restored and our spirit bear witness with the Spirit that we are children of God once again after the privilege was lost in the garden of Eden (Romans 8:16). When we become children of God just like the father of a new born child, it is God who now makes choice for us both in marriage, career and every other aspect of our lives (Jeremiah 29:11). He can communicate the choice through diverse means like visions, dream or a still small voice after asking Him in prayers (Mark 11:24).

At it is written in Jeremiah 10:23 “O Lord , I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps”.

It is not man that direct his steps. It is God Himself who directs the steps of His children and their steps are all ordered by the Lord, not man nor the world (Psalm 37:23). The child may have his own plan but it’s the Lord that direct His steps (Proverbs 16:9). Just the same way the ways and choice of a little child is always ordered by parents as he knows nothing but the father knows better and it is the child's choice to either obey or disobey.

In summary, God only makes choices and choose spouse for His children whose relationship with Him has been restored by the sacrificial blood of Jesus on the cross of Calvary and whoever desires to know the exact spouse God wants for him or her should come to Him though His Son Jesus to save all the headache (Matthew 11:28).

Matthew 11:28: “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

1 Corinthians 7, makes us understand that getting marriage is a choice and not a compulsion (Matthew 19:10-12). Marriage is not an achievement and neither is it something to be too excited about. It is like a cross which each and everyone one of us see, pick and lay on our shoulders and must carry till the very end of our lives (Matthew 5:32) and it comes with enormous responsibility, trials, disagreement and temptation.

Marriage is like a water and oil trying to mix together and can actually mix: with man this is impossible but with God, all things are possible (Mark 10:27).

There is no other name that you can find peace of mind other than Jesus Christ (John 14:27). The peace He will give to you, no man can take and that’s why He is called the Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6).

Whatever the Lord says you should do, just do it without counting the loss (John 2:5) because Jesus came to save that which was lost and will restore all that will lost (Luke 19:10).

If you count the loss, have you ever counted the cost if your soul should be lost instead of that which you fear will be lost? (Matthew 16:26).

Mark 8:36: “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?”

Gospel Question

Jesus Christ is called several names in the scriptures. Using the King James Version of the Holy Bible as reference and after a careful study of this photo, what name would you call Jesus?

Scriptural guide: John 10:11, 14; Luke 15:6

Answer (John 10:1-18)

The Good Shepherd (John 10:11) or the True Shepherd (John 10:2) and His followers are the sheep (John 10:14).

John 10:11 KJV
I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.

John 10:14 KJV
I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep , and am known of mine.

John 10:1-2 KJV
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber. [2] But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep.

On the day of judgement, the Lord Jesus shall separate the sheep from the goats (Matthew 25:31-33). Become a sheep of Christ today instead of a “goat” (Philippians 3:2) before it's too late (Luke 13:27; Revelation 20:15).

John 3:16:“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

Just as Jesus taught and warned us to beware of false prophets who comes in sheep clothing but inwardly, they are wolves (Matthew 7:15).

Matthew 7:15 “Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.”

False prophets are tagged workers of iniquity (Matthew 7:23) who think what they do is right but in the end, on the day of judgment the Lord Jesus will deny them and ask them to depart from His presence and that He never knew them ( Matthew 7:21-23 ; Proverbs 14:12). You can know them by their fruits and by their way of life (Matthew 7:20).

Meticulous study of the word of God can help in identifying false teachers and their doctrines (2 Timothy 2:15). With the word of God, you can easily detect and discern if what is being taught is true. The Holy Bible is an epitome of infallible truth and knowing it will help in differentiating the truth from the false (John 8:32).

A true preacher called to preach, preach that which is in accordance with the word of God. A false teacher cannot teach the scripture well enough because it is the Holy Spirit — the Chief teacher of the whole universe (John 14:26) that teaches the scriptures to an individual and only those having the Holy Spirit indwell in them can teach the scripture more effectively (1 Corinthians 6:19). Put into notice what the preacher preach and how it relate with the scripture.

Jesus should be the main focus of any true preacher (John 14:6). Jesus stated categorically that we can do nothing without Him unless we abide in Him (John 15:5) and no one can preach sound doctrine without abiding in Jesus (John 15:4). A congregation where Jesus is not the center focus is not a church but a cult because Christianity is all about Christ and being Christ like.

The life of a true preacher should reflect what he preaches, since according to the scripture we can know them by their fruits and way of life. If he preaches what is good, he himself should do what is good and right always keeping diligently the commandments of God (Luke 6:43 ; Matthew 7:17).

Luke 6:43: “For a good tree bringeth not forth corrupt fruit; neither doth a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.”

A prophet can be a foreteller of future events, but when he prophesies and it does not come to pass, know that such prophet and his prophesy is not from God and such prophet such be avoided (Deuteronomy 18:22).

Deuteronomy 18:22: “When a prophet speaketh in the name of the Lord , if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the Lord hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.”

Hypocrisy and pretense can also be seen in the life of a false prophet or teacher. Display of outward kindness and public righteousness can be a trait of a false prophet. Jesus Christ says we shouldn’t give alms for recognition or praise of men (Matthew 6:1), or public righteousness like praying and fasting to be seen and praised by men (Matthew 6:1-5). Giving alms publicly to be seen by all is against the laws of Christ and such prophet who does this may not do it genuinely from the heart but with hidden motives.

Don’t be swayed by outward public kindness because even the servants of Satan can disguise themselves as angels of light ( 2 Corinthians 11:13-14). Don’t be overwhelmed by signs and wonders (John 4:48; 1 John 4:1), because even false prophets do signs and wonders also. Jesus warned that they will display signs and wonders deceiving many including the elects (Mark 13:22; Matthew 24:24).

Matthew 24:24: “For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.”

Finally brethren, test every spirit. Every spirit from God confesses that Jesus come in human form and no man can declare that Jesus Christ is the Lord except by the power of the Holy Ghost (1 John 4:1-3; 1 Corinthians 12:3).

1 Corinthians 12:3: “Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.”

Still following. Thanks for the word, and may God bless and preserve you.

I just did some little reading of my Bible just now and I grabbed some points from your post. Please, do keep going.

Thanks and Amen. The last one is a parable. It deals on giving silently without making noise out of it to get the praise of men (Matthew 6:1).

It's a good thing you used the bible for reference otherwise you may not get the full understanding. Whatever you find obscure in what I post, you can ask question and I also like to be corrected also when I make mistakes.

Thanks for the prayers and remember me always in your private prayers also. Thanks

Parable Gospel on Giving

A silent hand with closed smiling lips is better than two hands stretched forward with two wide open mouths (Matthew 6:1-4).

And a hand stretched forward with a wide open mouth is just like a noisy trumpet producing a sound similar to that of a blood-thirsty-hungry mosquito (Mathew 6:2).

Luke 6:38 KJV
Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.

2 Corinthians 9:6 KJV
But this I say , He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.

Religion / How To Effectively Study The Holy Bible by FaithfulServant(m): 4:43pm On Oct 19, 2017
The importance of studying the Holy Bible cannot be overemphasized. The word of God has admonished us to study diligently that we might be approved of God and will be able to correctly handle the word of God and every other truth (2 Timothy 2:15).

2 Timothy 2:15 KJV: “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

There are so many bible versions today and controversies lingers on which is the most appropriate or best to study. I personally use the King James Version of the bible because according to many, it is the most authoritative version of the Holy Bible.

To study the Holy Bible effectively, the first step to take is to pray (Luke 18:1). All understanding comes from God and understanding His own word is not an exception (Proverbs 2:6). Pray to God to give you the wisdom and understanding of His word and He will give you because as the scripture has said, He gives wisdom liberally to all who ask (James 1:5). Also pray that the relevant passages you read in the bible will speak to the present needs of your heart (Matthew 6:8 ).

Read context by context and don’t read out of context. Some of the bibles are designed with topics assigned to each context but if you are not with such bible, try to discern the context even without topics. For example, Matthew 7:7-12 is a context of it own where Jesus admonished His followers to ask anything they want from God and they will receive (Mark 11:24). The Holy Bible consists of different ideas arranged context by context.

Read slowly and don’t be in a hurry to go over to the next page. Understand one verse completely before trying to go over to the next verse. Remember more haste less speed, and it’s not by how far you study the bible but how well you understand the little you know and have read.

You can study the bible also with bible concordance. Concordance is like a dictionary of the bible which helps in finding meaning to some words that are obscure. Just the same way we study other books with the dictionary, so also we study the Holy Bible with concordance. There are variety to pick from and one of them I know is the Strongs Exhaustive Bible Concordance.

Since no one can know it all, rely on others like your church teachers as your guide as you study the scripture. If there is anything you still don’t find clear after following those steps, you can ask a more experience person who has gain more knowledge of the scripture than you have. You can also ask any other who isn’t your teacher but you feel will have an idea to that posed bible issue.

Finally , there is no specific time to study the bible. Study at your convenience but most preferable in the morning because you may have been refreshed from the previous day and your understanding will be refreshed also.

How to Effectively Study the Holy Bible

Morning Counsel

Work hard ( Romans 12:11) but care less about the bank account, and care more about the prayer bank and general christian living (Luke 18:1; Mark 14:38; Matthew 16:26).

Matthew 6:24 KJV
No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

Religion / “the Fool Has Said In His Heart There Is No God” – Interpreting Psalm 14:1 by FaithfulServant(m): 4:31pm On Oct 18, 2017
Just as it is written in Psalm 14:1 KJV: “The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.”

This was repeated almost verbatim in Psalm 53:1 and it has been misinterpreted by many that the “fool” in the verse is referring to unbelievers. Anyone who says he doesn’t believe in God or the Christian faith is wrongly tagged a fool, but the word “fool” in the context is referring to the wicked and impious who because of their continuous disbelief and conclusion in the non existence of God do corrupt and abominable works (Psalm 14:1). Some may have even concluded that the fool is referring to an unintelligent person but that is not the case.

The unbelievers are people who are yet to find faith in God. They are in serious need of the faith and are searching meticulously for a good reason and evidence to believe in the existence of God (John 20:25). Example, is the case of the doubting Thomas who sought evidence that Jesus had resurrected before He could believe and He believed eventually when He saw Jesus (John 20:24-29).

Every believer today was once an unbeliever and no one was born a believer. In sin we were all conceived and all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Psalm 51:5 ; Romans 3:23).

Romans 3:23:“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;”

Some others disbelieve because they don’t know the truth and they disbelieve in ignorance (1 Timothy 1:13). Like in the case of apostle Paul who persecuted the people of God but repented eventually and admitted he did all those act because of His unbelief in ignorance (1 Timothy 1:12-13).

1 Timothy 1:12-13: “And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry; [13] Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.”

The fool in Psalm 14:1 as stated earlier is not referring to unbelievers, but the wicked whose heart has been hardened and conscience seared because of the continuous evil deeds and they do evil without any guilty conscience (1 Timothy 4:2).

Psalm 10 describe expressively who a fool is or what the wicked looks like. They are prideful and in their pride they persecute the poor and molest the voiceless and the innocent (Psalm 10:2). Example, is king Herod who because of his pride and does not want anyone to be named king apart from himself, killed little children in a failed attempt to kill the then baby Jesus (Matthew 2:16). The fool always feel since there is no God, they can do as many evil as they wish and they will not face God’s judgment and wrath (Psalm 10:5-6).

All including the wicked and unbelievers are called to repentance by God who does not wish anyone to perish but for all to come to the knowledge of the truth (1 Timothy 2:4; 2 Chronicles 7:14).

1 Timothy 2:4: “Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.”

If they continue in their unbelief with no effort made to know God, they are without excuse because God has shown us enough evidence of His existence (Romans 1:20) and if they die unluckly in that state as the scripture has said, they will be thrown into the lake of fire that burns with fire and brimstone (Revelation 21:8; 20:15).

Revelation 21:8: “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”.

Zoe99:
The zodiac is a group of 12 constellations or different arrangement of stars, marked by signs:eg Aquarius, Virgo, Sagittarius, Gemini, etc. The Horoscope is a form of divination using those zodiac signs, to predict what the future holds in store for an individual.God detests divination or enchantment of any sort. He alone is omniscient.See Deut. 18:10-14,Isaiah 47:13-14.
yeah, very true, "He alone is omniscient" (Hebrews 4:13).

Have you ever come across the use of symbols or birthdays in predicting the character, behavior and future of people?

Those are horoscope or the use of zodiac signs. They are advice and future predictions based on the date of birth of a person and the positions of the stars and planets. It is practiced and spread by astrologers, witches, sorcerers and some others. I used it in my early period of conversion until I repented and was corrected by the word of God (2 Timothy 3:16).

2 Timothy 3:16 KJV :“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:”

The use of signs in the affairs of man is an age-old practice. In the book of Matthew chapter 16, the Pharisees sought to tempt Jesus by desiring Him to show them a sign from heaven (Matthew 16:1), but Jesus rebuked them for desiring the discerning of the face of the sky but couldn’t discern the signs of time ( Matthew 16:3).

Matthew 16:2-3: “He answered and said unto them, When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather: for the sky is red. [3] And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowring. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?”

The discerning of the sky the Pharisees with Sadducees requested for in Matthew 16:3, are the same activities of the astrologers and other forces behind the use of horoscope and zodiac signs today.

Biblically, zodiac signs and horoscope is referred to as divination which is the practice of using signs or special power to predict the future. God is against divination and those practicing it and seek their repentance (2 Chronicles 7:14). He prohibited the children of Israel from using it (Deuteronomy 18:10 ; Ezekiel 12:24).

Deuteronomy 18:10: “There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch,”

The results of divination/zodiac signs are all false ( Ezekiel 13:6,7). The future is in God’s hand and only God knows the future except that which He choose to reveal to anyone (Ecclesiastes 8:7). Man has no business with what the future holds or what is needed for the next day (Matthew 6:34 ; Matthew 6:25)

Matthew 6:34: “Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.”

The use of signs by astrologers are also being used to predict future events like end times which has lead many astray (Matthew 24:36). Many who wait for the appointed time of the prediction backslide and conclude Jesus will not come after all and will continue with their old ways but Jesus Has said He will come like a like a thief when no one including the astrologers themselves will expect (Matthew 24:44; 1 Thessalonians 5:2).

Matthew 24:44 :“Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.”

As Christians we should be ready at all times by watching and praying and expecting His return at the same time (Mark 13:33 ) and not swayed by any random doctrine of error from zodiac, horoscope or divination (Ephesians 4:14).

The Holy Bible should be our guide in the direction of our life affairs by God and not horoscope (Proverbs 30:5; Proverbs 3:6). Pray without ceasing that the Lord will always be with you and will direct your path and that His plans for your life will be fulfilled (Thessalonians 5:17; Jeremiah 29:11). Every other means that are contrary to the word of God and praying for divine direction should be avoided.

Religion / Does Heaven Only Help Those Who Help Themselves? by FaithfulServant(m): 2:38pm On Oct 16, 2017
“Heaven help those who help themselves”

This statement I heard several times from my primary school headmaster. As I grew older, I observe it is being used frequently by most.

Why there are some truth in the statement, it is not entirely true. Though It can be used to spur people to be hard working and not to stay indolent and idle, but there are some who can’t help themselves unless heaven help them first because some are in captivity either by Satan, sickness, impairment or otherwise (2 Timothy 2:26).

Jesus Christ stated categorically that we can do nothing by our own self without Him (John 15:5).

John 15:5 KJV: “I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.”

Jesus Christ is like a tree while we are the branches. We must abide in Him in order not to fall off from the tree because without Him as the word has said, we can not stand on our own. So, since we can do nothing except Jesus help us, then how can Jesus only help those who can help themselves?

Sometimes, we sit in comfort and fail to realize and discern those in discomfort. We murmur to ourselves “he doesn't want to help himself”. For example, students coming top in class are assumed by the teacher to be the “hard workers” but fail to realize that some student might be having some secret and hidden challenges and can’t help themselves but need assistance. Some students suffer visual impairment and cannot see well unless they get medicated glasses while some others might suffer challenges like language and speech disorders, mental disabilities, difficulties with reading and so many others.

“There is no excuse for failure” is another erroneous statement used by many to molest others struggling. If we say because one having challenges excelled and other must do the same and for that reason we ignore them and fail to render the assistance we can, then we have lost it completely. No two individual is the same and we are all created by God and unique in our own different ways. No one is born dull as perceived by some. Just as Jesus came not to call the righteous but the sinners to repentance, so also teachers are called to call those who they perceive dull to acute intelligence (Luke 5:32).

We should lean not on our own understanding in the things we do and think we are helping ourselves and does not need the help from God above (Proverbs 3:5; Jeremiah 9:23) because every good gift that we can get can only come from God in heaven (James 1:17). Just as it is written “a man can receive nothing unless it’s given from heaven” (John 3:27).

John 3:27: “John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven.”

Heaven must help us first before we can help ourselves. Many think they can work by their own strength but the scripture makes us understand that we can do nothing without Jesus as stated earlier (John 15:5). Working without God is a like a boat in the desert, we get stuck in one place even when we think we have arrive our destination and it all leads to a dead end.

Only when heaven help us, then we can help ourselves. Sometimes things will be on smoothly with us and then we are tempted to think it’s by own making and hard work but I tell you the truth, it’s God who still do everything regardless whether we believe in Him or not.

There comes a time when we become completely unable to help ourselves until God intervenes. Those who God help should not despise those who are still down claiming their problem was bigger than the problem of the person suffering. But rather, lets us all point all struggling souls to the cross of Jesus because He bore our suffering on His shoulders on the cross and declared it all finished (John 19:30).
