Verse: John 11:25
Context: John 11:1-26

First you have to know what resurrection means. It means bringing someone who has been dead back to life.

You can see here that this verse is from the context of when Jesus lost his very close friend Lazarus the brother of Mary and Martha and eventually brought him back to life.

Since it involves death, what Jesus mean if you want to take it from the literal angle, Jesus mean only through Him can the dead come back to life. That is why it is wrong to hear some pastors after Christ brought someone back to life through them, ascribe the miracle to themselves because it is only Christ that can bring anyone back to life.

The other angle by which it can be understood is that those who are dead spiritually can get life again only through Jesus. The spiritually dead are those that do not have a spiritual life, materialistic (1 Timothy 5:6) and atheists. They are dead spiritually and can only get life again through Jesus.

Jesus further said those who believe in him though he was dead, yet he shall live and this means those are dead spiritually shall live again only if they believe and put faith in Jesus.

Another angle it can be understood is that those who believe in Him even though they die the physical death, they shall resurrect and live with God eternally in heaven.

Jesus further said in verse 26 that anyone who believe in him will never die which means he will never die spiritually and though he may die in his mortal body, his soul will live with God for ever in heaven.

My prayer life has not really been contant but I get frequent dreams and vision when I am very active in prayer and most of the interpretations I dont even know because some of them are really complex and difficult to understand.

My devotion is really sporadic but I usually get diverse dreams and vision when ever I become active in prayer most of which I dont even know the interpretations. Maybe you can advice me on how I can remain devoted without declining.

The Holy Bible is filled with mysteries and I don’t think any single individual can outgrow the Bible. We just keep on learning. It is a book that should not always be taken literally as it is most times written in symbols.

It is written in Hebrews 9:27 KJV, “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment”

After careful observation of the verse, I can conclude that it has both the literal and figurative meaning.

The literal meaning is this. You will observe that it was written that “it is appointed unto men” and not it is appointed unto “all” men. Do not conclude that the Bible is referring to “all men” in this verse. If it was referring to all men, it would have been specified like Romans 5:12 talked about death passing to “all men” by the sin of Adam.

If it is appointed unto all men once to die then what about Enoch and Elijah who where translated to heaven without tasting death (Hebrews 11:5; 2 Kings 2:1). How about those who will be raptured before the great tribulation into heaven without tasting death (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17).

If it is appointed unto all men once to die then how about Lazarus who died twice. He died the first time and was raised back to life by our Lord Jesus Christ (John 11:43) and certainly died again at some certain point in time in his life and was buried. Same thing applicable to others in the Bible who died and were brought back to life.

The judgement there in the literal sense is referring to that judgement every man will face after the physical death. It could be immediately after death or the great white throne judgement when everyone will stand in front of the judgment seat of Christ and will be rewarded according to their work whether good or evil (Revelation 20:12).

The figurative sense could be referring to those who have given their lives to Christ. If you study the context from which it was used, it will be observed that it is from the context of the redemption through the blood of Christ on the cross. The Bible makes it abundantly clear that those who put their faith in Christ died with Him on the cross (Romans 6:8 ) and for this reason apostle Paul wrote in Galatians 2:20, “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me…”. That is since he had come to faith in Christ, he became crucified with Christ on the cross (he died with him). Similar thing applies to other believers who have come to faith in Christ; they are dead with him. “For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God” (Colossians 3:3.)

The power over fornication and sexual urge is in having the Spirit of God and your ability to control what you look.

Even though you may not know, the things you look trigger your sexual urge which leads to fornication. Like the internet for instance is filled with immoral pictures and unless you start guarding your sight of these things, your struggle over your sexual urge will still persist.

I say this from experience because I once had struggle over my sexual urge. Though it didn't lead to fornication but it lead to something else i.e mastubation, but I overcame when I gave my life to Christ and I keep my sexual urge abase by being mindful of what I look both on and off the internet.

After a careful study of the old Testament, it will be observed that God is a God of fierce anger. He doesn’t tolerate nonsense even from His beloved people of Israel. He destroyed anyone or city involved in sin or disobedience. He destroyed the world with flood and Sodom and Gomorrah with fire because of sin (Genesis 7:10; Genesis 19:24).

The numerous secret and open sin of today by many cannot be compared to the sin of old and you may ask and wonder why God who doesn’t condone sin now suddenly tolerate us. It is simply because of what His Son Jesus did for us on the cross of Calvary (Romans 5:8 ). Whenever He looks at the cross of His Son, His fierce anger melt, tolerating us and hoping that we will all repent and not willing that anyone should perish but all should come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9).

Virtually all scriptures and verses in the Bible symbolizes something or has a specific meaning and the veil tearing into two after Jesus had given up the ghost is not an exception (Mark 15:38).

The tearing of the Temple veil was an act of God who likes using symbolism to pass across a message because God Himself is a great teacher (Exodus 4:12).

Now to the topic. Before the Lord God sent forth His Son Jesus to die for us on the cross for the remission of sins (John 3:16), there was a type of atonement done in the old Testament for the forgiveness of the sins of the children of Israel (Leviticus 4:20). In this atonement, a person from the tribe of Levi is appointed to act as an high priest and Aaron with sons were the first priests of those days (Exodus 28:1).

Whoever sin against God as commanded by God, is made to bring Lamb without blemish to be offered as sin offering for the atonement of his sins (Leviticus 4:32). This atonement is done in a tent called the Tabernacle and inside this Tabernacle is a place called the holy of holies protected by a veil or what we now know as curtain (Hebrews 9:3). The holy of holies is where the presence of God duel and only the high priest had access to it once a year to make atonement first for himself before making atonement for his people (Hebrews 7:27).

We can see from the explanation above that only one set of people had access to God— High Priests. But the tearing of the Temple veil immediately after Christ death signifies that the veil protecting the holy of holies where the presence of God duel is now open to all. That means anyone including you and I can now have access to God and not restricted to the high priests alone.

It now means that you yourself can now boldly come to the throne of God after you have forsaken your sins and repent of them, accept Jesus into your life and also through prayer (Hebrews 4:16).

Jesus in a short verse in Luke 17:32 asked us to remember Lot’s wife.

This from my understanding is pointing to two directions — the backsliders and the disobedient. Lot’s wife after being saved because of her disobedience, was destroyed (Genesis 19:26). This is passing message across to those after been saved, becomes careless with their salvation and their end there of is destruction (2 Peter 2:20).

For the disobedient, just as Lots wife disobeyed the angel of the Lord warnings not to turn back and was destroyed (Genesis 19:17), so also all those who reject the gospel of salvation and disobey God warnings through His messengers and teachers will follow the path of Lot’s wife destruction where all will be thrown into the lake of fire (Revelation 21:8 ).
