Travel / Re: Why Airplanes / Aircrafts Have A Hole In The Back Of Their Tails by farady(m): 1:54pm On Sep 13
Deepthoughts:
please just out of curiosity, can plane fly at slow speed like at 40km/hr?

Airplanes are designed to fly at much higher speeds than 40 km/h (25 mph). The minimum speed for most commercial airliners is around 250-300 km/h (155-186 mph), while general aviation aircraft and small planes can fly at slower speeds, typically around 100-150 km/h (62-93 mph).

Flying at 40 km/h (25 mph) is extremely challenging, if not impossible, for several reasons:

1. Lift: Airplanes need sufficient speed to generate lift, which is the upward force that counteracts weight. At low speeds, the wings may not produce enough lift to keep the plane airborne.
2. Control: Airplanes rely on airflow over the control surfaces (ailerons, elevators, and rudder) to maintain control. At very low speeds, these surfaces may not be effective, making the plane difficult to control.
3. Stall speed: Every airplane has a stall speed, below which it cannot fly. Stall speed varies depending on the aircraft, but it's typically around 50-100 km/h (31-62 mph). Flying at 40 km/h (25 mph) would likely put the plane below its stall speed.

However, some specialized aircraft, like:

1. Sailplanes (gliders)
2. Ultralight aircraft
3. Microlight aircraft
4. Some military aircraft (e.g., STOL - Short Takeoff and Landing planes)

can fly at slower speeds, sometimes even below 40 km/h (25 mph), due to their unique designs and capabilities.

Keep in mind that flying at such low speeds is usually only done in specific situations, like landing or taking off in short distances, and requires highly skilled pilots.

The Mods should move this to front page pls. This is very serious and funny at the same time.

The situation of things in the con3 occasioned by the recent fuel price hike, will start to reset and recalibrate family expense planning.

Firstly, many would either move the kids to cheaper schools that are walking distance to the house or to schools close to place of work or business. Secondly, cut down on number of kids and thirdly, raise the age at which these kids start school. What's paying N400k+ for an 18months old child? It's crazy!

Take some moment off to do an evaluation of yourself. Try to identify the issues or what is bothering you, could be finances, mental stress, emotional stress. Give your life to Christ and pray to God to give you peace, wisdom and understanding. Talk to a trusted family member. May the Good Lord guide you.

OT2024:
There was bitterness, anger and hatefulness in her tone. I decided not to stay a minute longer in her flat. As soon as I stepped out, she slammed the door at my back.

What an anticlimax! Life could be such a big paradox. The same woman I was kissing and caressing some minutes ago was the one hissing at me and treating me so scornfully.
This was certainly a misadventure, I concluded as I returned to our flat.

On Sunday morning, I decided to do general clean-up of the house, T.K would soon be going to church. He did not like my infrequent attendance of Sunday service, but he had to let me be. I remained indoor till afternoon. About 1.00 p.m. I prepared lunch of rice.

“I’m definitely going miss to you,” T.K said. “All the same, best of luck.”

At two o’clock, I took my bag and left for Ikeja. At Off Toyin Street, Ms. Morgan lived in a three-bedroom apartment. I met Linda there. Minutes later, Linda drove Ms. Morgan and me to the airport. I could see tears in her eyes as she waved bye to Ms. Morgan. The fifty minutes’ flight was smooth. I sat next to Ms. Morgan who was busy reading some documents.

At Abuja airport, we took a cab to the legislative quarters. Ms. Morgan had been allocated a detached three-bedroom bungalow. In the house, she had a maidservant and a cook. Briefly, she explained some working and living schedules to me.

“You would have to manage a room in the back quarter for now,” she said and showed me to the room. It was a neat and standard room with a 4 inches by 6 inches bed, a reading table, a chair and an in-built wardrobe.

I opened my bag and arranged some of the clothes I had brought inside the wardrobe.
Some minutes, the maid came to tell me that madam would like to see me in the main building. I went to see her.

“I hope you’re not bored. I will get a television for your room by tomorrow,” she said as soon as I got inside the large sitting-room.

“Oh, I can always manage to get by.”

She motioned me to one of the exquisite, leather seats in the room. I sat down graciously.

“You can stay around for now to watch the t.v. Do not hesitate to let me know anything you need.”

I nodded. “Alright, madam.”

She soon left the sitting-room. I changed the channel of the television to a news channel. A while later, the maid told me food was ready.

“Will you like to eat it here, or should I take it to your room?”

I thought I needed privacy, so I said she should take the food to my room. I got up and returned to the room.

I followed Ms. Morgan to her office in the official car the following day. Everything still looked like a movie to me. On her instruction, her secretary gave me letter of employment and identity card. She also briefed me about where my office would be and other official matters.

Working for Ms. Morgan was interesting and fruitful. Now, I was closely working with her. The working schedule varied, as sometimes we could be in the office as late at nine in the night. Sometimes, she would we needed to work on Sunday. I must say she was very generous. She was always giving and asking me if there was anything I needed.

Our relationship remained official but cordial.
For now, I was under the payroll of the federal government. Of course, the remuneration was times three of what Ms. Morgan had earlier offered. I never hesitated to thank her for the opportunity she had given me.

Nice update. Keep them coming.

This kind of precision attack is very advanced and for it to have been carried out on Iranian soil shows Israeli intelligence has infiltrated Iran's security system. Both Hezbollah and Iran will reply with a calibrated to save face as usual but not to escalate the situation. Their leaders equally fear for their personal safety as they won't underate Israel's ability to strike their targets.

Watinhapen:
No 6, I can relate with that. I remember when I went to write entrance exam in Uniben years back and still came back to Lagos the same day. I got to Lagos around 12 midnight, got to Cele bus stop and everywhere was dark and deserted. I had no choice than to trek the lonely road to Ago Palace. Cele was very rugged that time. Man gat to think smart quick quick. I removed my shirt and placed it on my shoulder and raised on leg of my trousers. I was walking like werey on the road without fear. Some guys even shine torch on my face, saw me and just looked away after seeing my physical appearance. They must have thought I’m homeless. That was how I walked all the way to my house o around 1am for night.

I don laugh tire. You've gat to blend with the area.

boolee:
Truth is, UNIBEN enjoys close to 24-hour supply. In Fact, they can go on for 72 hours without the light blinking. Courtesy of the power substation inside the school.
Stores and shops inside UNIBEN are all metered, same with private residential areas like staff Quarters.

The crux of the problem is the Student's hostels. There are more than 11 student hostels in UNIBEN. With a population of more than 7000 occupants. This is where the calculations should start from.

I think most departments should start thinking of how to go off-grid. This will really help.

As a graduating class, we did a Solar project for our department. Solar that can power the HOD's offices and our presentation room courtesy of our Course adviser who sold this brilliant idea to us.

Thou I know departments like Geology have been off the grid. I think they have a massive solar system too.

If other departments can follow suit this will drastically reduce the energy load needed to be supplied.

Way to go.

God Bless UNIBEN
God Bless Edo State
God Bless Nigeria.

We should be ashamed of ourselves as a nation to be shouting federal might in 2024. Be waiting for federal might.

Foreign Affairs / Re: US President, Joe Biden Condemns Iran's Attack On Isreal by farady(m): 11:00am On Apr 14
factwriter:

Even at that, the balls to initiate a "face saving retaliatory attack" (as you themed it) still says a lot about Iran not being a "push over" nation .

Don't forget a handful of Arab states are not really in friendship with Iran. It takes a lots of balls and guts to stand up to both domestic and foreign adversaries.

Lots of balls and guts!

Israel expected the attacks. They were prepared. Look nations especially Nigeria should learn from Israel. How could Nigeria have responded to almost 300 missiles and drone attacks over the entire country?

It's save facing and not balls because it took almost 2 hours for those missiles to reach Israel and more than 99% were taken down or neutralize. Iran knew they will be neutralize.

If Iran has balls it should have flown its jets.

Israel response will be to take out Iranian nuclear program in a systematic manner including hitting very strategic targets in the coming weeks. However, this will be after clearing Rafah.

Most persons commenting here don't understand international politics, especially as it relates to the Middle East crisis. For those that are jubilating that Iran launched a direct strike at Israel, it's pretty not a surprise to Israel. Israel is the most prepared nation in the entire world for war at anytime especially from its neighbors.

The Iranian attack was a retaliatory strike and largely carried out as a save face measure not to be seen as a weakling in the region. This move by the Iranian has only added a new twist to the entire Middle East crisis and this would not be the end of it.

Generally, the issues associated with single mothers are plenty and some have been highlighted above. However, that's not too say all hope is lost; nope.

You'd really need to focused and goal oriented. Also, you must be closer to God and walk with him. I've someone close to me that got married to a single mother. Initially, I was like what's this. God directed the brother and he followed the leading of the Holy Spirit. The father of the child is alive. My guy two beautiful kids and the union is cool. The sister is a rare gem. There's nothing that God cannot do, if only you'd obey and be patient. Cheers.

Beautiful work, congrats.

I want to make more inquires on the ceiling. You said Asbestos free ceiling boards;
1. are these different from plaster boards?
2. Which is better and durable, using plaster boards or full pop works?
3. Can i have the contact of the guys that did yours?

Then on the floor tiles. I saw something that looked like wooden floors (maybe cause of the color). Are they wooden floor tiles and in any case, how durable are wooden floor tiles?
