PDP Voids Party Endorsement Processes Nationwide, Except President Jonathan's The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday told its state chapters it cannot undertake the endorsement of candidates for the 2015 elections, citing “the sanctity of our nomination processes.” The endorsement frenzy began after the party by-passed the nomination process at the national level and used the same endorsement fast lane to send President Goodluck Jonathan to the same election, unchallenged, despite his unpopularity. The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday told its state chapters it cannot undertake the endorsement of candidates for the 2015 elections, citing “the sanctity of our nomination processes.” The endorsement frenzy began after the party by-passed the nomination process at the national level and used the same endorsement fast lane to send President Goodluck Jonathan to the same election, unchallenged, despite his unpopularity. In a statement issued after an NWC meeting in Abuja, National Secretary Wale Oladipo said the party notedthat some elected officers at the state level (referring to the governors), had continued to engage in endorsement processes despite warnings from the national leadership that they, as unbiased umpires, should desist. “The NWC strongly frowns at this development and issues this as a final warning to all elected party officials and chapters at all levels, and shall not hesitate to sanction such erring officers or chapters,” Prof. Oladipo said. “The sanctity of our nomination processes must be protected at all times. We therefore wish to assure all party members that there shall be a level playing ground for all aspirants intending to participate in the nomination processes.” He added that as a result, the NWC will not hesitate to protect any party members who stand to be short-changed, cheated or victimized by such endorsements. “The NWC charges all our members and supporters therefore to disregard all such endorsements as the PDP will conduct primaries to duly elect our flag bearers in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act and the constitution of our great party,” the statement concluded. Asked to comment, a political analyst said, “Party Dividing Party (PDP). It is a party of convenience, living for the moment. First it endorses Jonathan, during which the governors horse-traded for the right to pick their successors, and now you say they can no longer endorse. Without the support of the governors, as weak as many of them may be, who will vote for Jonathan?” |
Fintiri returns to Assembly as Speaker OCTOBER 9, 2014 BY JOHN AMEH, YOLA Sacked acting Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, has returned to the State House of Assembly as the Speaker. Fintiri was the Speaker of the Assembly, which masterminded the impeachment of former Governor Murtala Nyako in July. In a separate development, Fintiri has thanked the people of the state for the ” tremendous support” they gave him during his two months and three weeks’ tenure as acting governor. A statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Solomon Kumangar, in Yola, on Thursday, the ex-acting governor said he had reverted to his position as the Speaker while still pursuing his appeal against his removal as acting governor. He expressed appreciation to “the youth, women, elders, stakeholders, the political and working class” for their support. Part of the statement read, “Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, who has since resumed office as the Speaker of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, also expresses gratitude to all state legislators, members of the National Assembly, the Peoples Democratic Party, the opposition and the overwhelming majority of the people, who not only shared his vision and zeal of rescuing and emancipating Adamawa State from the shackles of bad governance but rallied together with him to banish tyranny, tribalism and primordial sentiment from adamawa State. “He pledges his life to the struggle to lift Adamawa State out of the morass in which it has found itself and that the whole issue is not about Fintiri but about Adamawa State. “He said anyone who takes the democratic revolution that has taken place as personal is being selfish and does not love Adamawa State.” On the judgment of the Abuja Federal High Court, which terminated his reign, Fintiri said he would pursue the appeal until it was disposed of, adding that he was sure of victory. |

Edo PDP lawmaker feared killed by alleged APC thugs The political crisis rocking the Edo State House of Assembly worsened Tuesday night following the attack on Hon. Rasak Momoh by thugs suspected to be loyal to All Progressives Congress (APC). There were conflicting reports on the condition of the lawmaker who was reportedly rushed to the University of Benin Teaching hospital, Benin. One account claimed he didn’t survive the attack. Momoh, who recently dumped APC for Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was allegedly attacked by hordes of armed thugs reportedly led by Hon. Phillip Shuaib. Momoh represents Etsako 1 constituency, with Shuiab representing Etsako 2, constituency of Governor Adams Oshiomhole. Eyewitnesses told Pointblanknews.com that dangerous weapons such as axes, machetes and cudgels were said to have stormed Momoh’s house in the legislators’ quarters and unleashed terror on the lawmaker. “It was like a war zone. They must have been about 20 of them. We saw Shuiab leading them and chanting war songs, threatening to deal with Momoh for embarrassing Governor Oshiomhole. We had to run for dear lives,” a lawmaker told Pointblanknews.com on the telephone. Pointblanknews.com could not get the hospital to comment on the lawmaker’s condition. Lately, Rasak had squared up against APC, his former party. He had recently accused the party of forging his signature as a member of the APC faction of the assembly. The result of police investigation is due this week. Razak’s defection had reportedly upset Governor Oshiomhole, who had often called the lawmaker “my brother.” |
Delta State Commissioner for Transport, Mr. Ben Igbakpa, has come under fire for burning over 200 commercial motorcycles, commonly referred to as Okada riders, in Sapele area on Sunday, an act some have described as ‘wickedness and jungle justice’. A source identified as ‘Karo’ informed SaharaReporters that commissioner Igbakpa ordered the seized commercial motorcycles to be set ablaze following a ban on the use of commercial motorcycles two weeks ago in several areas of the state including Ika South, Ika North and Sapele. The alleged, and controversial, burning of the motorcycles was carried out at the Mosogar end of the Gammon Bridge. A SaharaReporters correspondent who communicated with Commissioner Igbakpa stated that the commissioner noted his displeasure and frustration at the lack of compliance by the banned Okada operators despite having postponed the date of ban several times. Commissioner Igbakpa added that a monitoring exercise, which began on the first of October and which resulted in the seizure of the burnt motorcycles, became necessary in order to appraise the Okada operators of the seriousness of the state’s directive of the ban. Finally, Commissioner Igbakpa encouraged the banned commercial motorcycle operators to adopt the use of commercial tricycles popularly referred to as ‘Keke Napep’ at a reduced rate from the state transport secretariat of Asaba, if they must remain in business. The SaharaReporters correspondent, who also communicated with the Asaba Commissioner of Transport reported that the commissioner denied any knowledge of the burning of the over two hundred motorcycles. “I am not aware of the burning of any Okada, the fact remains that any confiscated Okada is not going back to the owner. How such Okadas are being disposed is not the issue, what matters is that, all Okadas in these areas must be off the road” said the Asaba Commissioner of Transport. |
Changing Colours Reflect the Death of The Labour Party In Ondo State BY SAHARA REPORTERS, NEW YORKOCT 05, 2014 In what looks like a collapse, and the end of the road for the Labour Party (LP) in Ondo State, its secretariat on Fiwasaye road in Akure has re-emerged in the colours of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). http://saharareporters.com/sites/default/files/styles/wide_jumbo/public/The%20Labour%20Party%20Secretariate%20wearing%20PDP%20colorsDSC02778.jpg?itok=eRN1O7eNhttp://saharareporters.com/sites/default/files/styles/wide_jumbo/public/The%20Labour%20Party%20Secretariate%20Wearing%20PDP%27s%20colorDSC02774.jpg?itok=tsxcR-7jhttp://saharareporters.com/sites/default/files/styles/wide_jumbo/public/The%20Labour%20Party%20DSC02777.jpg?itok=L03APrOr Labour Party Is Dead In Ondo State It would be recalled that the multimillion-naira building, which was launched in July this year, was hijacked from a private Nursery/Primary school, which then moved to another area in the state. At the time that a SaharaReporters crew in Akure passed by the secretariat, which stands between two banks in the state capital, it was already wearing a color of the bitterly Peoples Democratic Party in the state. A painter was recorded by our camera lenses turning the former orange structure to white. The signpost of the Labour Party has now been pulled down while the flag of the PDP was then mounted at the front of the office, signaling the death of the Labour Party in Ondo State. |
EXCLUSIVE: A new twist in Christ Embassy Crisis; Pastor Chris removed as trustee of Church’s U.K. branch https://media.premiumtimesng.com/wp-content/files/2014/09/Oyakhilomes-e1411412882635.png October 5, 2014Nicholas Ibekwe The face-off between the Founder of Believers Love World (aka Christ Embassy) Chris Oyakhilome, and his wife, Anita, has taken a new dimension with Mr. Oyakhilome now removed as a trustee of a United Kingdom’s branch of the church. With Mr. Oyakhilome’s removal, his wife, Anita, now presides over a seven-man Board of Trustees of the N8.2 billion rich branch, church documents reviewed by PREMIUM TIMES have shown. The six other members of the board are Obi Chiemeka, Ifeoma Onubogu, Nkem Odiakah, Raymond Okocha, Tony Obi and Uche Onubogu, all pastors believed to be loyal to Mrs. Oyakhilome. Mrs. Oyakhilome has for long headed the U.K branch of the church but her husband, before what appears his sudden removal, had since inception presided over the Board of Trustees of the charity. The new development suggests that in addition to the matrimonial squabble the couples are having, an intense power struggle and battle for the soul of the U.K. branch of the church might be going on between the estranged lovers and partners as well. In fact, Mr. Oyakhilome had dropped the first hint that there might be a hierarchical row in the church when he reportedly accused his wife of acting like an equal and wanting to overpower the authorities of the elders she met in the church. PREMIUM TIMES’ review of documents filed by the church’s UK branch to the Charity Commission of England and Wales has now shown that Mr. Oyakhilome is no longer a registered trustee of a branch of his church with total asset worth over N8.2 billion (£31 million). Until he was recently abruptly removed, Mr. Oyakhilome was consistently listed as a prominent trustee since 1996, when the branch was established. Contrary to the church’s practice of stating reasons for removal of trustees in the past, no reason has been given for the removal of Pastor Oyakhilome. It is unclear whether explanation for the action would be given in the church’s annual report for 2013 which is yet to made public by the charity commission. According to the church’s financial statement, in 2009, five pastors were removed from the church’s board of trustees after they resigned from their positions and two others were appointed. A Charity Commission spokesperson, Sarah Hitchings, told PREMIUM TIMES that it was not the concern of the commission to know why charities remove or replace their trustees. The international office of Christ Embassy refused to respond to questions this newspaper sent through email neither did the international audit and accounting firm, Mazars, appointed by the Charity Commission to run the affairs of the church after it opened statutory inquiry into the finances of the church following suspicious payment it made to connected parties worth N941 million between 2008 and 2012. However, church insiders said the removal of the pastor was a plot by his wife to take total control of the affairs of the branch even as her relationship with her husband of two decades deteriorates. With his ouster, those who should know said Mr. Oyakhilome has lost the locus to interfere in the affairs of that branch of the church. “He has been effectively sidelined,” a church insider said. “The law in the U.K. does not recognise him as an interested party in that branch of the church anymore.” Anita herself loses control But even the seven-man board led by Mrs. Oyakhilome has itself lost control of the affairs of the church. On August 11, the U.K. charity commission effectively sidelined her board and appointed an interim manager to take over the management of the church. In what it described as a “temporary and protective measure,” the commission appointed Rod Weston of the international audit and accounting firm, Mazars, to take over the running of the church. The Commission says it is investigating the church over “a number of serious concerns relating to the use of charitable funds, in particular large connected party payments and the potential misapplication of grant funding.” Until investigation is concluded, Mr. Weston would preside “over the management of the charity, including its staff, assets, interests, and relations with third parties,” the commission said. He is also expected to discharge the functions of the church’s trustees and take steps necessary to secure and take control of the assets of the church. The commission however added that the activities of the church would not be suspended by the appointment as the Interim Manager is expected to work with the pastors of the church to ensure its religious and charity activities continue as before. Divorce Mr. Oyakhilome is locked in a divorce battle with his wife, who has filed an action at a London court to end their 20-year-old marriage. Mrs. Oyakhilome accuses her husband of “unreasonable behaviour”, a charge Mr. Oyakhilome has repeatedly denied. At a recent church meeting, Pastor Chris, as he is widely referred to by Christ Embassy members, warned church members against analysing the squabble between him and Anita as the church is not a political party. He reportedly described his wife as a “bitter and angry” woman who is being influenced by bad friends who are out to seek his downfall. He accused his wife of seeking to overpower the authorities of the elders she met when she joined the Christian ministry. As the divorce battle rages, Mrs. Oyakhilome’s profile has been pulled down from the church’s website. |

Words Nigerians Commonly Misspell 1. “Goodluck.”This is probably the most misspelled word in Nigeria today. The reason is obvious: it’s the first name of Nigeria’s current president, Goodluck Jonathan. But there is no word like “goodluck”--or, its other variant,badluck-- in the English language; there is only “good luck”--and "bad luck." Good luck denotes an auspicious state resulting from favorable outcomes, a stroke of luck, or an unexpected piece of good fortune. That someone would be named “Good Luck” (which has now been rendered “Goodluck” in error) is itself evidence of insufficient familiarity with the rules and idiomatic rhythm of the English language. 2. “Defination.”There is no letter “a” in the spelling of that word. Replace the “a” with an “i” to have“definItion.”Related misspelled words are“definAtely”instead of “definitely,”“definAte,” instead of “definIte,” etc. 3. “Alot.”That is not an English word. The closest resemblance to that word in the English language is the phrase “a lot.” Since no one writes “alittle,” “afew,” “abit,” etc, it is indefensible that people write “alot.” But this is a universal spelling error in the English-speaking world; it is not limited to Nigerians. Other cousins of this spelling error are“Infact”instead of “in fact” and“inspite”instead of “in spite.” 4. “Loose/lose.”Many Nigerians use the word “loose” when they actually mean to write “lose.” Loose is commonly used as an adjective to denote the state of not being tight (as in: loose clothes). Other popular uses include the sense of being casual and unrestrained in intimate behavior (as in: loose women), lacking a sense of restraint or responsibility (as in: “Goodluck Jonathan’s loose tongue”). Although “loose” can sometimes be used as a verb, “loosen” is the preferred word to express the sense of making something less tight or strict. “Lose,” on the hand, is to cease to have, or to fail to win, or suffer the loss of a person through death, etc. A safe bet is to choose to err on the side of “lose” when you want to express an action. 5. “Priviledge.”There is no “d” in the spelling of that word. It’s spelled “privilege.” 6. “Nonchallant.”It’s actually spelled with only one “l.” Unfortunately, even news reports in Nigerian newspapers habitually spell the word with double “l.” I wonder if they’ve disabled their spell check. 7. “Grammer.”There is no “e” in the word. Replace the pesky “e” with an “a” to have “grammAr.” I’ve read posts on Nigerian Internet discussion forums and on Facebook railing against “bad grammer”! Well, if you feel sufficiently concerned about bad grammar to write about it, you’d better damn well know how to spell grammar! To be fair, this misspelling isn’t exclusively Nigerian, but its regularity in popular writing in Nigeria qualifies it as a candidate for this list. The people I have a hard time forgiving are those who attend or attended secondary schools with “grammar school” as part of their names (such as my old secondary school, which is called Baptist Grammar School) but spell “grammar” with an “e.” I see that a lot on Facebook. Such people deserve to be stripped of the certificates they got from their high schools! 8. “Proffessor.”The name for the highest ranking position for a university academic (in British usage) and any full-time or part-time member of the teaching staff of a university (in American usage) is never spelled with double “f.” It’s correctly spelled “professor.” So if “proffessor” is wrong,“proff”is equally wrong. The British and Canadian colloquial abbreviation for “professor” is “prof.” 9. “Pronounciation.” Although the verb form of this word is “pronounce,” it changes to “pronunciation” when it nominalizes, that is, when it changes into a noun. Note that there is no “o” after the first “n” in the word. 10. “Emanciated.”It should correctly be spelled “emaciated.” There is no “n” in the word. This widespread spelling error in Nigerian written English is the direct result of the way we (mis)pronounce the word. An “n” sound almost always intrudes on our pronunciation of the word, much like it does in our pronunciation of “attorney,” so that most Nigerians say “antoni-general” of the federation. A related misspelling is“expantiate.”It should be “expatiate.” There is no “n” after the first “a.” Add yours and feel free to share Emex |
]The 7 Dangerous Acts after meal….MUST READ * Don’t smoke- Experiment from experts proves that smoking a cigarette after meal is comparable to smoking 10 cigarettes (chances of cancer is higher). * Don’t eat fruits immediately -When you eat your fruits with meals, the fruit is stuck in the stomach along with the contents of the meals and cannot reach the intestines in time. Lying there they get spoilt and spoil the remaining food in the stomach too. Thus it is recommended that you eat a fruit at least one hour after eating a meal or before your meal and preferably in the morning with empty stomach. It is in the morning that the body can best use the nutrients in the fruit and get enough energy to start the day. * Don’t drink tea – Because tea leaves contain a high content of acid. This substance will cause the Protein content in the food we consume to be hardened thus difficult to digest. It is preferable to drink tea an hour after meals. * Don’t loosen your belt -Fiction, not particularly bad for you! We generally have an attitude that a good meal is that which forces us to loosen our belts. However, loosening the belt is bad, not because it causes the intestines to twist or block but because it means that you have over eaten to a level that you are uncomfortable. Loosening of the belt may also cause you to feel comfortable once again which means you may continue overeating. So eat only to the extent that you can be comfortable without loosening your belt! * Don’t bathe – Bathing after meal will cause the increase of blood flow to the hands, legs & body thus the amount of blood around the stomach will therefore decrease. This will weaken the digestive system in our stomach. * Don’t walk about -Fact, it is bad for you! Walking directly after meals is a bad idea, it can result to acid reflux and indigestion. However, walking about half an hour after meals is known to be good for you. Researchers in the Department of Exercise Science at the University of South Carolina, have found that walking after exercise is a good way to burn energy. The point to note is when to walk, you should ideally walk for about 10 minutes and only 20-30 minutes after meal to prevent acid reflux and stomach upsets. * Don’t sleep immediately – The food we intake will not be able to digest properly. Thus will lead to gastric & infection in our intestine. |
Why Abubakar Shekau May Get A National Award Soon By Imoh David Nigeria is such that if Abubakar Shekau of Boko Haram were to accept amnesty today, few hours after accepting the amnesty, he will be given a government position, protected by army escorts, given a contract to secure the Nigerian-Cameroun border against terrorists and finally he will be given a National Award - BCON (Bombadier Commander of the Niger). Don't you just admire the country? Good people great nation. BY IMOH DAVIDOCT 03, 2014 It is not of my practice to celebrate failure, fraud, burial and bed-ridden conditions. Why would anyone be celebrating the sick-man on his bed? To encourage him to death, to mock him or to express elation over his condition? If the national award was ceremoniously gifted to governor T A Orji of Abia State, Peter Odili, and others who made giant footprints in the sands of mediocrity, then anything is "celebratable". Men who went into the home of corruption and married her daughters, impregnated under-development and brought home their children are the type men we hang medals of valor around their necks with smiles on our faces, chorusing "Well done son; you did us proud, please do it again!" And you think we are sane in the head? Yes we are sane; for in the house of mediocrity, mediocrity is the admired and desired of virtues. In short, to not be a mediocre is to incur the collective wrath of the Gods of the land; the Gods of mediocrity. And you will pay dearly for not being mediocre. In the congregation of the corrupt, it is an offense and taboo against the tradition of the land to be incorruptible. It is a sin to be incorruptible in the mist of the corrupt. Greater of a blasphemy it is to fight corruption and speak against it. The most mediocre and corrupt of all are the heroes and those who wear the medals of valor. No other place celebrates mediocrity and awards corruption like the Nigerian State. As a matter of fact, the National Award is where and how we celebrate the most mediocre and corrupt of Nigerians. If a few individuals with the right merits are awarded, not only is it accidental but they are in a ratio of 1:599 thieves. If 600 individuals are awarded with the National Honors, only one or two of them deserved it, the others are merely a reflection of the espirit de corps of the corrupt camaradie. Nigeria is such that if Abubakar Shekau of Boko Haram were to accept amnesty today, few hours after accepting the amnesty, he will be given a government position, protected by army escorts, given a contract to secure the Nigerian-Cameroun border against terrorists and finally he will be given a National Award - BCON (Bombadier Commander of the Niger). Don't you just admire the country? Good people great nation. So good they are that they award those who rob and oppress them. Loot their money and treasury, they will call you "Honourable". Become a governor and destroy their roads and impoverish them they will call you and award you a GCON (Grande Corrupt Of Nigerians). But will happen if you are the type that fight corruption? You will contest elections over and over again. If by chance you had a position in the government, they will either try to assassinate you or demote you unceremoniously and you will be forced to go into exile in a foreign land. If you come out to speak-up against the corruption and cluelessness of the government, they will call you a Boko Haram sponsor or member. Good people, great nation. It is better to call goats on stage and hang medals of gold and call it national honours than to give polithiefcians awards. People who are consciously destroying and bringing down the nation with their mediocrity are granted award? That nation is a sorry lot! If you are awarding thieves and rogues, then you are ruled by same. Thieves award thieves, rogues award rogues. You cannot award and give appraisals on what you do not like or support. You say you want change, but you are doing the same thing over and over again. Exhalting mediocrity and expecting excellence, is ridiculous. How can the nation change when you keep retaining people in power who appraise corrupt people? Dear Nigerians, your destiny is yours. While you languish in mediocrity the rest of the world is pushing ahead. Shed the skin of corrupt mediocre polothiefcians in your mist that you may be made light to trudge forward. Ondo PDP Excos approach court as Mimiko defects to PDP The Ondo State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) today approached a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, seeking to restrain the National Working Committee, (NWC) of the party from dissolving the existing party structures in the state. BY SR SPORTSOCT 02, 2014 A former executive member of the Nigerian Football Federation who was a candidate in Tuesday’s election to elect a new president has accused Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State of bribing voters in favor of the victorious candidate. Amaju Pinnick, the chairman of the Delta State Football Association and a blood brother of the Delta state first lady, Roli Uduaghan, emerged as the new chairman of the NFF. Speaking to Sahara Sports, the losing candidate said he first became suspicious when Mr. Uduaghan insisted on hosting the elective congress in his state. He added that it became clear that there was foul play when most of the voters were taken to the Government House only to return after midnight. “One thing you should know about Tuesday’s elections is that, on the surface, it appeared free and fair, but I can categorically tell you that a lot happened behind the scenes,” said the source. He added: “The governor of Delta State aided what transpired so that his boy, Pinnick, would emerge as NFF president.” The source said all the candidates and voters stayed in the same hotel, alleging that cars came to take most of the others to Government House. He claimed that the voters returned to the hotel well after midnight after collecting inducements of $20,000 each. He asserted that the NFF’s outgoing president, Aminu Maigari, was aware of Governor Uduaghan’s plan to rig the election for Mr. Pinnick. He said he believed Mr. Maigari was paid off to support the plan. He alleged that the sudden decision by Shehu Dikko to drop out on the day of the election was part of the scheme to rig in Mr. Pinnick. According to him, prior to dropping out of the race, Mr. Dikko was both Mr. Maigari’s candidate as well as the overall front runner. “Maigari was fully part of Governor Uduaghan’s plan. I strongly believe he collected money from the governor,” said the source. “If not, how could he support Pinnick just like that?” he asked. In a related development, Dominic Iorfa, a former international player who also contested for the NFF presidency, said he lost in Tuesday’s election in Warri, Delta State because he did not have money to distribute to delegates. “I want to say without fear of contradiction that people who have money to share to delegates won the elections. I sensed danger, but since my co-contestants chose to keep silent, there was nothing I could do as an individual,” he said. Mr. Iorfa added, “Personally I cannot induce anybody to vote for me in an election. Although I am always very passionate about football, I can’t pay to lead Nigerian football. It was about service that I wanted to render freely. So why should I give money to anyone?” Meanwhile, another controversy may erupt at the Glass House, the headquarters of the NFF, as both Mr. Pinnick and another factional leader, Chris Giwa, are expected to lay claim to the coveted seat of president. |
Boko Haram Leader Shekau Appears In New Video, Says He Is Alive Abubakar Shekau, the leader of Islamist militant group Boko Haram, has appeared in a new propaganda video dismissing claims of his killing by the Nigerian military. BY SAHARAREPORTERS, NEW YORKOCT 02, 2014 In the latest video, just released by the Islamist terrorist group, Mr. Shekau spoke at length on his reported death in a 36-minute video. The video was originally obtained by the French news agency AFP. The Boko Haram leader said his sect had instituted sharia rule across areas captured by his fighters in the northeastern parts of Nigeria. Last month, Boko Haram militants captured several towns including Gwoza which the group named as its headquarters. A Nigerian military source told SaharaReporters moments ago that Nigerian intelligence agents were yet to study the new video. He said they could only authenticate the video after a thorough analysis of the new tape. The Nigerian and Cameroonian military authorities recently claimed they had killed Mr. Shekau during a battle in Konduga near Maiduguri. Even so, SaharaReporters exclusively reported that the Boko Haram figure who was killed was one Mohammed Bashir. Nigerian military officials insisted that Mr. Shekau was a nick name assumed by Mr. Bashir and several other Islamist insurgent killed in operations by the Nigerian military. |
I quote someone on this same discusson, in another forum: This is the story of two Nigerian Doctors who came in contact with Ebola patients. One Doctor promptly isolated a patient, notified the Lagos State Ministry of Health as well as the Centre for Disease control, prevented the patient from escaping into the larger population, and paid the ultimate price of her life to save Nigerians. She prevented Patrick Sawyer from escaping from First Consultants Hospital, prevented a mass outbreak and saved Nigeria a calamity. Her name is Doctor Adadevor, the grand daughter of Herbert Macaulay... Public Service runs in their veins. Now, the second Doctor identified the Ebola patient in Port Harcourt and rather than reporting to the appropriate authorities, isolated the patient in a hotel, administering treatment secretly, violated all oaths of the medical profession, all for the sake of money. He paid with his life and the lives of of others. All for the sake of money. Like the Biblical Esau, anything for the soul, even money at the expense of the lives of millions of Nigerians. Nobody remembers his name anymore because of his sheer green and lack of consideration for Nigeria. But everybody knows where he comes from. Some have sold their souls for money. Some have sold their souls to serve humanity.. That is the story of Nigeria... Those who have sold their souls for money will defend their kith and kin, even if his behaviours are satanic, as long as they can make money........ They will defend the claims of a failed government, using slogans such as transformation ambassadors. deafened to the realities because of monetary gains............That is Nigeria... |

Jonathan, PDP can’t claim credit for defeating Ebola — Governor Fashola October 1, 2014Ben Ezeamalu Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State has said that the true heroes behind Nigeria’s success in curtailing the spread of Ebola Virus Disease are not those campaigning across the country. In his Independence Day address in Lagos, Wednesday, Mr. Fashola said that credit should not be taken away from the health workers who helped curtailed the virus. At various rallies across Nigeria, ruling party politicians have continued to cite Nigeria’s success on the virus as among the achievements of President Goodluck Jonathan and the ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party. “I have heard some stories emanating from campaign podiums with claims of conquering Ebola,” said Mr. Fashola. “The question we must ask is whether those who make these claims saw Ebola? “It is women like Stella Ameyo Adedevoh to whom such a claim rightly belongs. “It is young Nigerians like Dr. Morris Ibeawuchi, who first made contact with the index case patient and continued to treat him who saw and conquered Ebola. “He got infected, from doing his job, got sick, survived and is back to his job. “It is first responders from the Lagos State Ministry of Health like Dr. Jide Idris, Dr. Yewande Adesina, Dr. Wale Ahmed, Dr. Kayode Oguntimehin who saw Ebola. “They responded to the call from First Consultant Hospital. They spent 12 (Twelve) hours daily in the early days supervising the construction of Ebola containment facility when the epidemic broke. “The Lagos State Infectious Disease Hospital which later became the epicenter of Ebola management used to house tuberculosis patients and patients with infectious diseases. “Those patients vented their anger on these people when they had to be moved to create room for the Ebola centre. I know they spat at Dr. Adesina for doing her job. “Dr. Abdul-Salam Nasidi of the National Disease Control Centre in Abuja saw and conquered Ebola. He helped in no small way to co-ordinate the containment. “Dr. David Brett-Mayor of the World Health Organization saw and conquered Ebola. He single handedly started the Ebola isolation ward having cleared and cleaned the room. He admitted and cared for the patients before any Nigerian doctor joined him. “Professor S. A. Omilabu, the dedicated virologist at LUTH, saw Ebola and conquered it. He coordinated the fault free testing for Ebola and managed all the samples professionally. “Peter Adewuyi saw Ebola and conquered it. He led the contact tracing team of many dedicated officers for the first 2 (two) weeks. “Mrs. Funmi Lagbokun, Mrs. Modupe Aiyedun Davies, Mrs. Basirat Adeoye, Ms F. O. Bamgboye, Mrs. K. O. Oshisanya, Mrs. Kazeem Abioye, Mrs. Abiola Lasaki and Mrs. K. Adeshina all saw and conquered Ebola. “They were the dedicated team of nurses, nursing aid, care giver, health assistant and hygienist who commenced work voluntarily in the Ebola containment ward without any demand other than the sense of duty. “Yemi Gbadegesin and Abdulsalam saw and conquered Ebola. “They coordinated the de-contamination, removal and burial of the index case and other cases, and it is because of them that First Consultant can re-open for business. “Dear Lagosians, these were the people who saw and defeated Ebola. Let no person tell you otherwise. “These men and women, who showed courage, who risked their lives are our true champions and heroes. “They showed the spirit of service, the spirit of Lagos and the spirit of our “good old days”. “Nobody should take this credit away from them. “They are not celebrating because they know that the work is not finished. They are already working with our people and planning to volunteer to go and give help in Sierra Leone and Liberia. “Their reward for hard work will be more work and they tell me that they are ready,” Mr. Fashola added. In what was his last Independence Day participation as the governor, Mr. Fashola urged Lagosians and Nigerians to return to those values that made Nigeria great in the past. “How can you serve your country? I say, take the spirit of Lagos everywhere you go,” Mr. Fashola said. “From Badagry to Bayelsa; from Shomolu to Sokoto; from Epe to Ebonyi; Alimosho to Adamawa; from Lekki to Lafia; From Ikeja to Ijebu-Ode, all of us, Nigerians all should serve our country by changing our thinking and striving to give our best for collective benefit. “By making a conscious determination to changing the way we act. We can serve our country by doing something good and positive in our homes, in our schools and in our communities. “It doesn’t matter how little it is. Together it makes a whole. We can serve our country by pledging in our hearts to restore, share and protect our communities, our States and our nation,” Mr. Fashola said. “In the weeks and months ahead, we will begin to celebrate ordinary Nigerians doing extra-ordinary things. And on a dedicated day in the near future we will come together to celebrate and honour our heroes, and hold them up as shining examples. Heroes recognised and chosen by you and I for the things they are doing for the benefit of others and the society at large without expectation of reward. “Let the arm bands you are wearing be a constant reminder to change your thinking. We will distribute wrist bands all over Lagos and beyond. Wear them with pride but more importantly, let them remind you to act with integrity. “As I have said before, I know that the temptation to focus on our failures and lament our national deficiencies is great. I know that the temptation to compare our achievements with our potentials and conclude that we could have done much better is perhaps inevitable. But I say to you the Nigerian youth, choose to take on a more positive attitude. It is a choice and that choice is yours,” he added. |
Without prejudice, the magic was/is a brain-child of the Lagos State Government. Fashola Team did the magic to the glory of Naija. |
MUST READ: Pastor Oritsejafor Finally Speaks Out On $9.3m arms deal The President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, on Monday said he knew nothing about the controversial $9.3m smuggled into South Africa by two Nigerians and an Israeli, using his private jet. Oritsejafor broke his silence during the National Executive Council meeting of CAN at the National Christian Centre, Abuja. The CAN leader regretted that there had been attempts in the media to link him with the incident by mischievous elements, adding that he had kept quiet all the while, because he needed to explain his position to the church which is his primary constituency. Oritsekafor, in his address, a copy which was emailed to one of our correspondents in Kaduna State, declared that he was never a party to the movement of the $9.3m from Nigeria to South Africa to purchase arms and ammunition. He said, “I want to assure you that I will not do anything to tarnish the image of Jesus Christ or compromise the divine standard of the church. “As you are all aware, the media has been awashed in the past few days about an unfortunate incident involving the movement of funds from Nigeria to South Africa. In the unfortunate news reports, attempts have been made to link me directly with the transaction. “So far I have refrained from making any direct public response pending the time that I would have brief the leaders if the church and explain my position on the issues to them. “I believe that the primary institution that I owe any explanation to is the church.” Oritsejafor added: “At the risk of being seen to be defending myself, I wish to confirm to the distinguished leaders of the church that the Bombardier Challenger 601 aircraft in question is mine. The aircraft was presented to me as a gift by members of our congregation and ministry partners worldwide at my 40th anniversary of my call into the ministry. “May I be permitted to stress that the aircraft was not given to me by the President of Nigeria, neither was it a settlement for any political favour or patronage. “With the benefit of hindsight, the President of the country was a guest in our church during the anniversary celebration when the jet was presented to me.” The CAN leader explained further that “the President of Nigeria has nothing to do with the gift of the aircraft. By the way I still wonder why all those saying this, still cannot come out to show proof so that the matter can be put to rest once and for all. Let me say that this might be an issue for the courts in the near future.” Oritsejafor who also explained the circumstances that led to the involvement of his aircraft, said “in order to ameliorate the cost of maintenance of the aircraft, I sought and got permit to allow the aircraft fly in and out of Nigeria. “Based on this, I leased the aircraft on August 2, 2014 to a company to run it. It was the leasee that entered into an agreement with the people who carried out the transfer of funds. Having leased the aircraft to the Green Coast Produce Company Limited, any transaction undertaken with the aircraft can no longer be attached to me. “Inasmuch as I am shocked and distressed by the incident, I wish to appeal to Christians in Nigeria to remember that a war has been waged against the Nigerian church. This war is being fought on many fronts and this unfortunate incident is another dimension in the assault against the church. “It is clear that those who manipulated this conspiracy desire to create a schism in the church.” According to him, “the media hype and the deliberate distortion of information that followed it confirmed that forces that desperately desire to cause division and disunity in the church are at work. Even the devil knows that a house that is divided cannot stand. “As Christians, we need unity in the church now more than ever. We are witnessing inhuman attacks by religious extremists against Christians in the northern part of the country, while christian infrastructure is being destroyed in hundreds. “If we permit the enemy divide us, our chances of corporate survival shall be severely threatened. “Distinguished leaders of the church, please permit me to state clearly before God and before all of you here present today, that I am not a party to the movement of $9.3m from Nigeria to South Africa to purchase arms and ammunition. I am not part of the deal. I know nothing about it.” The CAN President commended the Catholic Church for its support, particularly in refuting a distorted news item by mischievous elements in the media. He appealed to heads of blocks that constitute CAN and head of denominations and Christian leaders at different levels and spheres of influence to use their good offices to caution and control their subordinates and followers from making public statements that will further polarise the church and strengthen the arms of the enemies of the church. Quoting Matthew Chapter 18 verses 15 to 20, Oritsejafor said, “If I offend you or you offend me, instead of talking to media, let us talk to each other within the house of God.” - See more at: http://247nigerianewsupdate.co/must-read-pastor-oritsejafor-finally-speaks-out-on-9-3m-arms-deal/#sthash.g76VnDrb.dpuf |

THE PEACE OF OUR LAND IS NOT NEGOTIABLE State Broadcast By His Excellency Dr. Kayode FAYEMI Governor, Ekiti State, following the Breach of Peace in the State Friday, September 26, 2014. In o kun o Ekiti Kete. It has become expedient that I address you today on account of dire happenings in the land of honour, Ekiti State. With tension mounting across the state, Ekiti has been the subject of alarming headlines in the news, following the tragic assault on the judiciary. On Monday, September 22, thugs acting on the incitement of an interested party, were involved in the sacrilegious sacking of the court while hearing on a political case was in progress. This happened in full glare of the law enforcement agents with inappropriate response. Clearly, these brigands exceeded the limits of acceptable behavior, even in the most liberal of democracies, and ventured into the realm of blatant criminality with this desecration of the hallowed chambers of the law. The fact that this assault did not meet with any strong deterring repercussions from the appropriate authorities further emboldened the miscreants. They subsequently attempted to prevent the Ekiti State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal from sitting, yesterday, Thursday, September 25. I am advised incontrovertibly that thugs acting on the command of Mr. Ayo Fayose, who was also present to lend his clout to the travesty, brazenly assaulted a senior judge and urged his thugs to beat him up and tear his clothes. The court premises was thrown into confusion and those present scurried away in search of safety and security. This was on the back of his specious allegation that the judiciary in the state is compromised and biased against him. And the answer to that was to resort to jungle justice and take the laws into his hands. This has led to the closure of the courts indefinitely due to the inability of the security agencies to guarantee the safety of lives and property in our temples of justice. With the entrenched atmosphere of impunity, violence in the state has escalated with the unfortunate loss of one life and the willful damage to several properties to arson by rampaging thugs. Since the beginning of this development on Monday, which is unprecedented in the recent history of our state, I have been in touch with the Heads of all Security Agencies at the State and Federal levels, urging them to act quickly and firmly in the interest of public law and order. It is worrisome that the slow and inadequate response has occasioned the avoidable escalation of violence in our dear state. Against this backdrop, it is understandable that not a few stakeholders have expressed concern about what the development portends for our dear state. The brazen contempt of our hallowed law courts and the use of violence and intimidation to obstruct the course of justice is a clear invitation to anarchy of the scale and texture that characterized Ekiti State some years ago. Ekiti Kete, are those years upon us again? Already, there is widespread anxiety about this development coming at a time the state is going through the transitioning out of one administration and the ushering in of a new one. This is a very delicate period that all stakeholders must work together to ensure Ekiti State comes out stronger for it. During periods of transition, vital partners in progress adopt a cautious posture, watching for the slightest portents of the possible discontinuity of the regime of peace and tranquility, amongst other factors that have made our state conducive for investors and development partners. We must not disrupt our very bright prospects for sustained development in our state. Considering the cases that have triggered the recent spate of violence are politically related, the political elite in our state from all disparate quarters must exercise caution. We must rescue our state from the precarious slippery slope that some have desperately pushed us to. We should not imperil the very people we seek to serve by resorting to violence and brigandage. One does not burn down his homestead to establish his claim of ownership or leadership. Most assuredly, the course of Justice can only be delayed, but can never be truncated. The independence of the Judiciary is an inviolable tenet of any democracy. Accordingly, I have this morning directed the Attorney General of the state to issue a legal advisory to the Chief Judge of the state and all the parties to the existing cases in the State High Court and the Ekiti State Governorship Elections Petitions Tribunal, on the desirability of seeking an alternative venue for the hearing of these cases outside Ekiti State. The State can no longer afford to witness the bizarre spectacle of the beating up of judicial officers and wanton intimidation of lawyers and court personnel. Now that the security agencies appear to be fully seized of the situation, I call on them not to relent in performing their constitutional role of protecting lives and property in our state. Administrations come and go; politics can be frenetic when the stakes are high; but by the grace of the Almighty God, our state remains for all time, therefore THE PEACE OF OUR LAND IS NOT NEGOTIABLE. Ekiti Kete, consistent with our history of unity and love, let us work together to make our state a garden of concord where our children and their children will dwell in peace and safety. Even in the pursuit of politics and justice, let us conduct ourselves as kinsmen, bound by a shared love for Ekitiland but differing only in the choice of instruments by which to accomplish the same goal. Let us then temper our competitive zeal with civility and empathy. Let us deal truthfully with our youth, who are so liable to be led astray by unbridled political fervour, by seeing them as our children rather than as conscripts or fodder for our objectives. Ekiti Kete, in order to forestall further descent into anarchy in our state, I am taking the very difficult decision to suspend the ‘Thank You’ tour which I’m undertaking as part of our transitioning-out formalities. Also, I have taken the decision to institute a dusk to dawn curfew in the state immediately. Accordingly, there would be no movement between the hours of 7.00 p.m. and 7.00 a.m. everyday till further notice. We urge the citizenry to be vigilant and provide the security agencies with details of suspicious activities that can undermine the peace in our state. Let us work together to stop the violence and brigandage that has brought about serious embarrassment to our state in the last few days. Let Peace Reign in the land of honour, Ekiti State. God bless Ekiti State. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Dr. Kayode Fayemi Governor, Ekiti State Friday, September 26, 2014 |

Early tests show freed Chibok girl ‘is pregnant’ September 25 18:52 2014by Fredrick Nwabufo 0 Comments The abducted “Chibok girl” released on Wednesday is “pregnant and mentally ill”, national chairman of Chibok association, Dr Pogu Bitrus, has told TheCable. Earlier on Thursday, the police revealed that the 20-year-old girl was abandoned by suspected terrorists at Mubi in Adamawa state from where she was picked up. It also confirmed that she was one of the female pupils of Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok, Borno state, abducted in April by Boko Haram. However, Bitrus said it was still uncertain if the girl was from Chibok because her name did not correspond with any of the names in the records of the girls that were captured by Boko Haram on April 14. “I was speaking Kibaku to her, but she did not respond; she was incoherent,” he said. “She may be having mental issues as a result of trauma.” Bitrus added that preliminary tests – still not definitive – indicated that the girl is pregnant. “When she was picked up, she was taken to a clinic, not a standard hospital, and tests were carried out on her,” he said. “From the tests, it was said she is pregnant, but that is still in the speculative domain because a qualified medical doctor has not confirmed that she is pregnant. “However, we are still trying to establish if really she is from Chibok because from our sources, the last name of the released girl does not tally with the surname of the person bearing the first name of the released girl captured in our recoords and whose father is a carpenter at Chibok. So we are still trying to work out every detail.” Copyright 2014 The Cable. New York Police Arrest Pro-Jonathan Hirelings Fighting Over Cash BY SAHARA REPORTERSSEP 24, 2014 Law enforcement officers of the New York Police Department yesterday dispersed clashing groups of hired supporters of President Goodluck Jonathan who stormed the venue of a book launch at the Pier Hotel in Manhattan. Several witnesses at the event told SaharaReporters that a group of homeless men hired from the streets of Newark, New Jersey, clashed with another pro-Jonathan group made up of Nigerians from the New York area. A fracas broke out when some of the homeless hirelings feared that members of the Nigerian group were planning to hijack the payment of $50 per person the organizers had promised to pay. As a melee ensued, and the police stepped in and arrested some of the pro-Jonathan hirelings fighting over the sharing of booty. Investigation revealed that the trouble began when the collection of homeless supporters rented by the organizers demanded their payment shortly after arriving at the venue. As they were pressing for payment, they noticed that a group of Nigerians had taken to chanting pro-Jonathan slogans. Afraid that the Nigerians had been brought in to deny them the payment they had been promised, the homeless group began chanting “Bring back our girls,” the slogan of a global campaign that urges Nigerian government officials to take seriously the task of rescuing more than 200 schoolgirls who were in mid-April abducted from a school in Chibok, Borno State, by Boko Haram insurgents. Embarrassed by their song, which they took up from a group of demonstrators, the handlers of the rented crowd made frantic efforts to coach them on the scene to sing President Jonathan’s praises. New York police intervened after some members of the rented crowd got in a free-for-all scuffle with members of a rival pro-Jonathan group. As the situation threatened to cause a breakdown of law and order, a few police officers swung into action, dispersed the crowd, and took away four of them in handcuffs. |
