October 31 (halloween day) is the most important day in the satanic year. I t is known as the devil's birthday. It marks the Celtic new year. It was the end of the growing season. It became a festival of death. On this day, the god of the Celtics was to have called up the spirits of the wicked dead who had died during the past year. |

BREAKING: Burkina Faso’s Compaore resigns after violent protests October 31, 2014Premium Times Burkina Faso’s President Blaise Compaore, one of Africa’s longest-serving autocrats, has resigned, forced out of power by a popular revolt over his attempt to extend his 27-year rule by additional five years. Mr. Compaore is no longer in power, the army confirmed Friday, a day after protesters set fire on the parliament, marched on the presidential villa and at least three people died. Mr. Compaore had earlier said he would step down after a 12-month transitional government had ended. However, the opposition continued to demand that he resign, angry at his attempts to amend the constitution and extend his rule. The army imposed curfew Thursday and announced a transitional government that will last one year, but refused to state clearly who will lead the government. The head of the armed forces, General Honore Traore, had earlier dissolved parliament and announced talks with all political parties. Hundreds of soldiers in Burkina Faso on Thursday joined demonstrators opposing plans to extend Mr. Compaore’s nearly three-decade rule, Radio France Internationale reported. |

Deputy Speaker in trouble for hosting Tambuwal font size decrease font size increase font size Print Email 31.Oct.2014 DISQUS_COMMENTS Taiwo Adisa -Abuja Rate this item1 2 3 4 5 (0 votes) DEPUTY Speaker, House of Representatives, Honourable Emeka Ihedioha, appears to have landed in trouble, for hosting the Speaker, Honourable Aminu Tambuwal, to a reception, after the latter’s defection to opposition All Progressives Congress (APC). Sources in the National Assembly told the Nigerian Tribune that President Goodluck Jonathan and leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were angry with the Deputy Speaker for hosting Tambuwal to a warm reception, few hours after the Speaker defected from Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to APC. But the spokesman of Ihedioha, Oke Epia, on Thursday, said the allegation that Ihedioha hosted Tambuwal was not true. He stated that the duo could meet as presiding officers of the House and not as party members. “Are they saying the deputy speaker is no longer a chieftain of the PDP? I can tell you that his loyalty is unshaken. He remains committed to PDP. These are political times and all sort of things could be raised by political opponents,” he said. Sources, however, said the meeting between Tambuwal and Ihedioha took place at the Deputy Speaker’s guest house in Pope John Paul Street, off Gana Street, Maitama, Abuja. “Ihedioha has been asked to explain whose master he has elected to serve; because we cannot understand why he chose to host Tambuwal to a warm reception, a few hours after he defected from our party to APC. “Is the deputy speaker with us or he is planning to move to APC with his boss? The PDP deserves an answer from him,” a source said. The source further said at this “critical moment of political decision,” President Goodluck Jonathan wanted to be very clear on whose side Ihedioha belonged. Emeka |

LP gives Mimiko 21 day ultimatum to resign Posted by: Gbenga Omokhunu, Abuja in News Update 7 mins ago The National Working Committee (NWC) Wednesday advised Governor of Ondo State, Olusegun Mimiko to respect Labour Party (LP) constitution and resign from office. Mimiko who was elected into office as LP candidate dumped the party for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). LP NWC took the decision after a meeting in Abuja. According to a statement issued by the LP National Publicity Secretary, Ikpe Etokudo: “The NWC came to the inevitable conclusion that the constitution of the republic and provision of relevant section of the electoral laws must be respected by Dr. Olusegun Mimiko and his new party – the PDP. “The case of Dr. Boroffice who was elected as a Senator on the platform of our party but defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) was cited. The NWC reminded Dr. Mimiko that he was so incensed by Boroffice’s action that he advised the party to approached the court for justice. “The NWC warned all those concerned to take the path of honour immediately or should expect to defend their deliberate raping of the constitution of the country within next 21 days in court as well as be ready to face the wrath of workers of Ondo State in particular and the nation in general.” |
Tambuwal Was Made Speaker By House Members Not PDP – Gbajabiamila BY CHANNELS TELEVISION . OCT 29, 2014 The Nigerian House of Representatives Minority Leader, Femi Gbajabiamila, has dismissed the Peoples Democratic Party’s demand that the Speaker of the House, Aminu Tambuwal, who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday should do the needful, saying it is a threat that bears no consequence on the speaker. Mr Gbajabiamila stressed that the Speaker was elected by the members of the House across all the political parties and not just the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members. In a telephone interview on Wednesday that was centred on the chances of impeaching the Speaker when the House reconvenes on December 3, Mr Gbajabiamila said that the Nigerian Constitution clearly stated that the speaker could only be impeached with 240 votes from the 360 members of the House of Representatives, a number he said the PDP does not have in the House. An Empty Threat On Tuesday, Mr Tambuwal at the end of plenary announced his decision to join the APC dumping the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and ending rumours of his impeachment that had been making the rounds for some months now. After Tambuwal announced his defection, the PDP asked the Speaker to be honourable and do the needful. But for Mr Gbajabiamila, the demand by PDP is an empty threat that the speaker is not expected to obey, since he, Tambuwal, had not enjoyed the support of the PDP right from the day he was picked as the speaker in deviance to PDP’s choice of candidate. “The members decided to chose him based on the stipulations of the constitution. “He did not come to the speakership of the House through the PDP. The PDP does not want him any longer. They have tried to remove him several times, so he has to leave the party. Division In PDP “I can’t understand the pain of PDP, he came in as speaker not basically as a result of PDP support but as a result of support of the entire house. He had over 250 votes while the PDP nominee had only 90 votes. It was because of the support of the members of the the House that he became the speaker. It tells you how much support he has in the House. “He has done what he wanted to do. He spoke as a smart politician,” the Minority Leader said. On whether the manner with which Tambuwal announced his defection was ideal, Gbajabiamila said that there was no laid down procedure of announcing defection and that the decision to go on recess was not the speaker’s but that of PDP members in the House. He also insisted that the speaker’s decision to defect was as a result of the division in the PDP, stressing that there are no chances that anything would change when the House reconvenes in December. “It is only Tambuwal that can reconvene the House the Deputy cannot do it. He only has the power that are delegated to him by the speaker. “For the Speaker to be impeached it requires 240 votes to impeach him. And the PDP does not have they number. “I don’t see anything changing that much and the sooner that the PDP understand that if the members of the House says they want a person as a speaker, that is who the House wants,” he added. |
No Plan To Field Muslim-Muslim Ticket — APC Asked if the party was planning to pick a former Lagos State governor, Bola Tinubu, as Buhari’s running mate, Odigie-Oyegun said, “I’m the national chairman. Whoever we will choose as our presidential candidate, whether it is Buhari, Atiku, Kwankwaso, Rochas Okorocha or any other person, the party will then sit down with him and say this is the type of running mate that will contribute maximally to the success of the party in the election.” BY SAHARA REPORTERSOCT 28, 2014 The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed insinuations that it is planning to field a Muslim-Muslin ticket in the 2015 presidential election. National Chairman of the APC, John Odigie-Oyegun, reacting to the controversy which has trailed the interview granted an online newspaper by General Muhammadu Buhari, a leading presidential aspirant of the party. The candidate had said he would keep an open mind on the issue of his party’s presidential candidate and running mate, and dismissed it as unfortunate and unnecessary. All Progressives Congress logo In the interview with The Cable, General Buhari, who is a Muslim, had underlined that in the past, he demonstrated to Nigerians in that he was not a religious fundamentalist by picking Christians as his running mates in the 2003, 2007 and 2011 elections in which he ran. “Nigerians will always uncover impossible room for manoeuvre for politicians. I had to face one of the governors during one of our party’s meetings [over the issue of religion],” he disclosed. In that regard, he recalled that in 2003, he chose Chuba Okadigbo, an Igbo and a Roman Catholic; in 2007, I picked Ume-Ezeoke, an Igbo and a Roman Catholic; and in 2010, a pastor, Tunde Bakare. “Honestly, what do Nigerians want me to do?” asked Buhari, who was Nigeria’s Head of State between 1983 and 1985. “If they don’t believe I’m not a fundamentalist, what else can I do?” He recounted that the late Moshood Abiola, a southern Muslim; picked Babagana Kingibe, a northern Muslim, as his running mate in the 1993 presidential election. That Muslim-Muslim ticket won the election, generally considered the fairest and freest election in Nigeria’s history. There have been speculations thatBuhari might be looking in the direction of Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola, who is also a Muslim; or his predecessor as governor, Bola Tinubu, also a Muslim; as his running mate if he wins the APC ticket in the party’s presidential primary in December. However, a former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, on Sunday warned parties against fielding candidates of the same religion, saying it was dangerous for the country |

You Cannot Threaten Me, Amaechi Replies Presidency In the latest spate of accusation and counter-accusation, Amaechi reminded the Presidency that President Goodluck Jonathan is not his ‘Prefect’, noting that, he cannot threaten him of sanctions for criticizing the president for not attracting developmental projects to the state. BY OKAFOR OFIEBOR/PORT HARCOURT OCT 27, 2014 The drama between Rivers state governor, Rotimi Amaechi and the presidency seems to have taken a new twist. In the latest spate of accusation and counter-accusation, Amaechi reminded the Presidency that President Goodluck Jonathan is not his ‘Prefect’, noting that, he cannot threaten him of sanctions for criticizing the president for not attracting developmental projects to the state. Rotimi Amaechi The Presidency had angrily reacted to a claim made by Amaechi that the the cause of the frosty relationship between him and the Presidency was because President Goodluck Jonathan hates Rivers people and that the president ceded Soku oil wells in Kalabari to Bayelsa and 40 Etche oil wells also in Rivers to Abia state. Amaechi also accused the wife of the president, Patience Jonathan of corruption. He said Patience wanted him to bring the money meant for Rivers people to Abuja. In addition to that, Amaechi at a mega rally held in Port Harcourt on Saturday rubbished claims by President Jonathan that the All Progressive Congress (APC) was a party only on billboards. And today, in his reply to the statement from the office of President Jonathan, which accused him of “Political rascality,” the Rivers State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Ibim Semenitari said Governor Amaechi is an elected official and not a mere ‘prefect’. Semenitari also faulted Reuben Abati, the President’s spokesman for failing to get his facts right before publishing the statement despite his wealth of experience. She added that Amaechi never mentioned the name of the President nor his wife during his speech at the rally. Semenitari said, “I would want to say that the Presidential Spokesman should be careful for the kind of threats he issues to an elected Governor. “He should remember that the President is not a prefect of the governor. He was elected as President just as the Governor was elected as a governor, and Nigeria is a federation. “And please, Abati should know his limits and need not attempt to cross his boundaries. “It is a bit strange to hear the kind of comments coming out of the Presidency and this shows that the statement was already prepared before governor Amaechi spoke. “At no point in his speech did Governor Amaechi make any references. His wife was not even discussed because she is not an official of government. “I do not understand where or how Mr. Abati got his story, so we just take it that this is one of those clear indications of rascality within the Presidency trying to call a dog a bad name and hang it”. |

He also said that it was unfortunate that the former governor castigated Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State for leaving APGA when he too was planning to do the same thing as soon as he left office. Obi also said that it was because of the former governor that APGA lost all the senatorial seats in 2011, particularly that of Anambra Central contested by the late Professor Dora Akunyili. He said further: “He did not want Akunyili to be in the senate because of his own ambition of going to the senate in 2015. If he wanted Akunyili to go to senate, why did he take her to the Head Bridge Drug market, Onitsha to campaign knowing the role Akunyili played in fighting fake drug producers in that market as the director general of NAFDAC? “Besides, Head Bridge is not even part of Anambra Central and he took her there just to mess her up and he got what he wanted because we were stoned by the traders who were still bearing grudges against Akunyili.” www.vanguardngr.com/2014/10/ojukwu-knew-obi-dump-apga-obianos-aide/
Beware of unfriendly friend! |
NFF Crisis: Giwa led-board nullifies Keshi’s sack, takes over NFF office October 24, 2014Tunde Eludini A new chapter has been opened in the latest Nigeria football crisis as members of the Chris Giwa-led Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, board were at its secretariat on Friday in Abuja to clear the ground for resumption of duties on Monday. The Giwa-led executives secured a court order on Thursday sacking the other faction led by Amaju Pinnick. Amongst other things, the Giwa-led board stated that all committees and earlier decisions made by the Amaju-led board has been overturned including the decision not to allow Stephen Keshi to continue as the national team coach. “The NFF board reviewed and feels so strongly to sustain the out-of-contract assignment given to the technical crew of the Super Eagles led by Stephen Keshi at a very critical moment like this. Nigerians want the national team to play well, win and a pride to them” a part of the communiqué reached at the executive committee read. Keshi’s contract as Nigeria national team boss ended after the World Cup in Brazil and attempts to get a new contract fell through. He was shown the exit door on October 16 despite leading the Eagles to a 3-1 win over Sudan in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier played in Abuja. Yahaya Adama, a member of the Giwa-led board stated on Friday at the NFF’s secretariat, that they remained the only legally elected executives and any other board parading itself in that light was merely wasting its time. “The board wishes to thank Nigerians who have since the court ruling been calling and identifying with us,” he said. “Like we had stated earlier, our decision not to have gone ahead to occupy the Glass House (the secretariat) since the September 19 ruling that empowered us was to allow peace. The latest decision of the court herewith has returned us to office fully from where we draw our greater resolve to save the game.” |
VERBATIM: "But if I’m voted into power within the next four years, the issue of power will become a thing of the past. Four years is enough for anyone in power to make significant improvement and if I can’t improve on power within this period, it then means I cannot do anything even if I am there for the next four years.” ~President Goodluck Jonathan Addis Ababa, January 2011 What is your take? |
