Uptownerd: Christianity and Islam start from when you are a child and defenseless to indoctrination and dogma's to tell you about a God. What can you do? You will probably believe because you don't know any better. Then you grow up with that mindset of a sky daddy with his host of Angels who are somewhere looking over you.
Having made sure to indoctrinate the child with religious stories and practices, the child grows up thinking is real and lives his life justifying every decision he makes around whether it pleases a God or not. He will discountenance common sense in defense of the God seed planted in him as a child. Then, he starts praying to this imaginary mental construct he has been made to believe is real.
When things go well, the person praises the imaginary construct. When things go bad, they blame a Satan or agree it is the will of the imaginary construct.
But, as an adult, do you believe Zeus is real? Yet, at some point in time, people actually did.
Stories of Israelites and their problems are used to tell of a Jewish God called Yahweh, and made out to be real.
But, when you actually take your time to read this stories, you realize they are côck and bull story of a weak tribe who were always at the receiving end of Foreign superior powers and their conquering spree. All the stories of Yahweh using his power to rescue Israelites are nothing but slaves consoling themselves and hoping that a power somewhere will rescue them from captivity. Today, Israelites have grown to develop actual weapons and high tech to deal with anyone who messes with them.
However, the repackaged fake version of their history is sold to Africans and they have swallowed it hook, line and sinker.
Will a European or American person or Chinese believe you if you told them that Amadioha was sent by a God to save mankind? They will need proof, and telling them your ancestors told you guys about Amadioha and his glory is going to make you look pathetic and a joke.
Here is what you can do to enlighten yourself more:
1) If you have not read the Bible before, try reading it today. The people telling you that you need to be in a silly spirit to understand the words are also victims of the same indoctrination and do not know what they're saying.
2) Stop acknowledging the mental construct (Yahweh, Jesus or whatever) in your mind. They are not real, they are real in your mind only.
3) Tell yourself that you are stûpid for believing in the côck and bull stories in the Bible or the texts of the other religious copycats. This works like magic and goes direct to your ID self.
4) Acknowledge that prayers are meaningless and will never ever change anything irrespective of whether you think they did or not.
5) Religion is an addiction, and has more addicting substance than Cocaine, Morphine and Heroin put together. I'm sure you already know that an addict doesn't know the dangers of their own addiction until it is probably too late. Can you distance yourself from religion for a week?
Trust me, you probably can't do this if you are addicted to religion. That's how to test your level of addiction to the faith.
Like other forms of addictions, suddenly withdrawal from your church or Religion has real psychological impact. But, like other addictions, the more you stay away from it, the better you will be for it in the long run. But, you have to start small. Start by reading the fake creation story in Genesis. Compare it with stories of religions that are older than the Abrahamic religions. Then compare it with the one of your tribe/race/ethnic group. Wow! That was impressive I must say. I like how your points are brilliantly articulated. Like you, I'll also try not to bore you with scriptural verses but to reason rationally through induction and deduction from data (evidence, signs, indications) obtained withing specific/given parameters. I wouldn't say I hope you "believe" in science because that'll make you a believer and it'll mean you have adopted a philosophical position (scientism) that cannot be verified, or falsified, by science itself. So I'll just hope that you trusts the expertise and integrity of cognition. Both science and common sense attest to the causality principle which states that "all real events necessarily have a cause. The principle indicates the existence of a logical relationship between two events, the cause and the effect, and an order between them: the cause always precedes the effect". Again, I hope you trust this to be true. If so, I'll like you to relate the causality principle to procreation and then the simple induction/deduction will come in handy. I want to believe you already get the point I'm driving at. Science can not explain the existence of a phenomenon without it's origin (causality). That being said, how can you explain the existence of man (the first man) without turning to religious scriptures for answers? Science isn't the only source of human knowledge my friend. And once you accept that science is the only source of human knowledge, you're again adopting a philosophical position that cannot be verified, or falsified by science. |

SmartPolician: Muslims should speak for themselves and I will write as a Christian. You see, we must make efforts to separate Christianity (as a religion) and the way people practice it. Just like most things, Nigerians bastardized Christianity (both Pentecostal and Orthodox churches), making some of us ashamed of what fellow Christians do.
By design, a Christian is a Christ-like person, meaning that you must have good morals. However, what we have in Nigeria today is outright hypocrisy, where people pretend to exhibit Christ-like virtues only in churches and during church activities.
However, in their everyday life, you realize that they are monsters. They kill, steal, rape, fornicate and do all sorts of things Christ condemned in the Bible. While we are all sinners, the part I find shocking is glorying sins or making it look like a norm.
Therefore, Christianity preaches leading a good lifestyle and respecting the laws of the lands. In other words, the religion does not in any way impede development in Africa or anywhere else it is practiced. If a people who claim to be devout Christians don't develop their local communities and show love to their neighbors, please we don't blame Christianity for the failings of those people.
Instead, those people have to reexamine the way they practice the faith. This is the same problem with Nigeria and several countries that claim to be religious but are not God-fearing. While this post has focused mainly on Nigeria, I cannot exonerate the white man. The White men who brought us Christianity are no exception because we need to separate the message from the messenger, if we feel something is wrong with the messenger. If someone who brought you a message does not practice what he preaches, you don't blame the message. Instead, you blame the messenger for not practicing what they preach. We all have to keep this at the back of our minds. Brilliantly said brother. I'm not a Christian but I believe you've spoken the truth. I'll like to add that while we shouldn't blame Christianity for the failings of a few Christians who probably do not understand Christianity or are involved in things that aren't Christ-like, we should equally not blame Islam or any other religion at all for the things some of the followers do that are against their religious teachings. |

Everything religion teaches boils down to securing a better place in the afterlife and whether we believe in it or not, we're all going to die. Every religion attest to this. This life is a journey not a destination. Think of it this way, you are about to travel from point A to B and you have no idea what point B looks like but you've been hearing stories of how extremely cold it is at point B, wouldn't it be wise to travel with a jacket? I mean if it's cold, then fine. You have something to keep you warm and if it's not, then you lose nothing. Call it slavery, call it delusional, call it anything but it's better to hold on to your religion and find out it isn't needed in the afterlife than to live & die in disbelief only to be filled with regrets in the afterlife. |

VanuatuWycombe: He cannot be captured by the US tax net for now because he is like an undocumented immigrant since his name is not in their Labour database. So he will spend is $400 to improve himself while squatting somewhere. I am sure when his name is mentioned as an outstanding Nigerian in some years to come, you would be part of those that would be proud of him being a Nigerian.
Nigeria is DAAB (Dead And Awaiting Burial). So if you are given one day visa, abeg use the opportunity o. The US is multi trillion dollar economy with over 500 million inhabitants. The opportunity is huge there than here.
For accommodation, if it’s Lagos, you can’t get a DECENT apartment at N150k even if it is a room self contained. A room sef con that is decent starts from 500k in Lagos mainland. There are even those that go for 700k. Quote me anywhere. I have firsthand info on them. So you'd prefer squatting in the US to owning your own place here? Of course I'll celebrate an outstanding Nigerian but would you celebrate a criminal who is a Nigerian? Being broke and indebted in the US will only push one into criminal activities. For accommodation, yes you can't get a decent one for 150k in some parts of Lagos but u can in many other parts of the country but in US how far? Can you? You can but it's definitely not for a year. And the type of houses you get for 500-700k in lag that you talked about will cost you more than double the amount in the US. |

One of the 7 beneficiaries I know spent 8k the day he collected the 20k. He bought rice. Just rice in a nylon bag. Before, 8k would have gotten almost a bag of rice. People are hungry! All these funds the government are giving out, if properly invested will have a better impact in the lives of the masses but they choose to do money illusions But even if the government tries to invest it, the government will still loot the investment. Either way, it's messed up. But it's less messed up when they share it like this. At least some people will be able to solve one or two problems that wouldn't have been problems if the government were upright. The thing just get as e be. |

Dude, why must I be super rich to enjoy basic health care? Isn't that insane? Is that the type of life you choose to live? Even with your super riches you still wouldn't be able to get proper health-care in Nigeria.
Is your President not wealthy? Why must he always visit the UK for health-care? Do you know how many times he's spent in the UK since he became the president?
And do you think health-care is accessible in Nigeria? I'm not disputing it sir. 9ja is pretty messed up at the moment but with the options the op gave, 400k here is better. You pay little or no tax unlike in the US. Plus you can't compare the cost of living. A decent apartment that'll cost 150-200k in a year here can cost more than 400 dollars in a month there. Anybody can be killed in Nigeria at anytime compared to the US. Yes, gun violence is high in the States now but they still have a better security! Let's not even talk about health, education, technology etc. I disagree. Yes, it's no news that security is bad in Nigeria now but in this case, it's about being rich in Nigeria or being far less comfortable in the US. Like you said, gun violence is high over there and one can also get killed. Justice? Yeah it's good but what good is it to a dead person? Health, education, technology etcetera can be enjoyed in the US from Nigeria if one is rich. Like seriously rich. |

Except if he'll be shuffling two - three jobs with similar pay which is definitely going to be real stressful, 9ja is better off in his case. My guess is, the 400k job here is a 9-5. That pay should be enough to get something going for him on the sidelines and he can comfortably vacation in the US say once a year.
