Oloyedecherry: It's simple.... If you have failed to plan, you are simply planning to fail...are they telling us that those flour mills were not there at the initiation or planning stage of the project??
The initial design is from Iju to Ibadan & that has been achieved. But this government want to extend it to Apapa based on their new policy that all railway must terminate at the seaport.
Indications have emerged that the Federal Government may be experiencing some hiccups in the build up to the December deadline for the completion of the Lagos-Ibadan railway project.
In as much the contractor, China Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC) has completed laying the standard gauge rail tracks from Iju-Ishaga axis of Lagos state to Moniya area in Ibadan, construction of tracks to link the Apapa ports still remains a mirage.
This owing to obstructions of oil pipelines but the worst is the flourmill factories along the rail track, which stakeholders have said would cost the Federal Government huge sums for payment of compensations to relocate the factories.
An official of the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC), who spoke to The Guardian, lamented the paltry sum allocated for the project.

The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Hameed Ali, has decried the spate of smuggling across the country calling for concerted efforts in curbing the menace.
Speaking to journalists during his operational visit to Idiroko border in Ogun State, Ali noted that said the nation’s border posts will remain closed indefinitely until such a time movement of goods and persons as established by Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) protocol are strictly adhered to.
The Customs boss also dismissed some insinuations that the closure was meant to be in force within 28 days.

He explained that decision was taken to checkmate the proliferation of firearms, importation of contraband and other illegal activities by unpatriotic individuals along the land borders.
“Smuggling is an offence; many of you may not accept it that smuggling is an offence. Any illicit thing you bring into this country has a way the consequences on our economy, security and well-being.
“We have gotten to a point whereby we must do something drastic in order to stop this. Otherwise, we will be finished,” he said.
Speaking further, Ali explained that criminals have been better equipped following the smuggling of weapons into the country.
He added, “Kidnapping, banditry is everywhere. Those doing that is not because they are stronger than me and you, but because they have guns in their hands. If it is man to man, many of them will not be on the streets.”
Rotimi Amaechi, Minister of Transportation says the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT) Zaria, has all it takes to design Made-in-Nigeria vehicles.
Amaechi stated this in a statement issued by the Director, Public Affairs, NITT, Mr Paul Mshelizah, which was made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Zaria.
Mshelizah said the Minister stated this during a familiarisation and facility tour of the institute in Zaria, Kaduna State during the repositioning retreat by the institute.

Amaechi said: “NITT has all it takes to design a car, I am sure the institute could convince the Federal Government that it has what it takes to design a made in Nigeria car.
“From design, to engine, to body, then funding will not be an issue, we can create patency for NITT.”
The Minister expressed satisfaction with the facilities but called on its management to ensure proper use and adequate maintenance of the equipment.
Amaechi also advised the NITT to seek accreditation from National Universities Commission (NUC), to run certain diploma programmes toward metamorphosing into a full-fledged university of transport and logistics.
The Minister pledged the ministry’s support to help in the creation of more faculties in the institute.
He, however, called for a holistic perusal of the institute’s enabling law to know the scope of its mandate.
Dozens of baskets brimming with newly-picked tomatoes gently rot in the sticky heat, becoming the latest casualty in a bout of trade tension between Benin and Nigeria.
On August 19, President Muhammadu Buhari unexpectedly closed Nigeria’s borders to goods trade with Benin and Niger, declaring the time had come to end rampant smuggling from those countries.
In Benin, Nigeria’s neighbour to the west, traders say the impact has been devastating.
“This is a distressing sight,” Agriculture Minister Gaston Dossouhoui said this month, visiting markets in the town of Grand Popo, one of the main agricultural communities of southern Benin.
“It’s very difficult for our producers. It’s a disaster.”
“Financially speaking, Benin’s small producers are under water — they’ve already had to run up millions (of CFA francs) in debt,” said Adjeoda Amoussou, head of Benin’s Chamber of Agriculture.
Buhari defended the closure by saying Benin and Niger — Nigeria’s neighbour to the northeast — had failed to police their borders properly, and chronic smuggling was the result.
“The borders will remain closed until our neighbours control what goes through the borders and comply with the laws,” warned Hameed Ali, comptroller general of the Nigeria Customs Service.
The move immediately caused a shockwave.
Unilateral border closures go against all commercial and freedom of movement treaties signed under the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi has said that the Kano- Kaduna rail project would commence as soon as the Federal Government secure loan for the project.
Mr Amaechi disclosed this in an interview with newsmen shortly after he paid a courtesy visit to Kaduna State Governor, Nasiru El-Rufai at the Government House on Tuesday in Kaduna.
The minister said the Kano-Kaduna rail project would be heading to Lagos through Ibadan.
According to him, the rail will convey about 30 million tons of cargoes, which people in the state should take advantage of.
“Kaduna can also be a hub, which will grow the economy and also create job opportunities.’’

Mr Amaechi, therefore, commended Gov. El-Rufai for appointing youths into his cabinet, especially females.
“Considering the Northern background, you would not expect a high number of females to be appointed to help run the affairs of the state,” he noted.
He further commended him for giving equal opportunity to all parts of the state.
The minister said he would also be visiting the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology in Zaria, to assess facilities there.
DAILY NIGERIAN reports that Mr Amaechi is in Kaduna to open a retreat for management and staff of the transport institute.

123 Northerners detained, stopped from entering Lagos on Friday August 30, 2019
The police in Lagos have released the 123 Northerners who were intercepted in a truck with 48 motorcycles by the State Environmental Sanitation and Special Offenses Task force.
Jigawa State governor, Badaru Abubakar, also confirmed the release of Northerners, who are majorly from his state.
The governor told DAILY NIGERIAN that he had contacted the authorities concerned, and the petty traders were released to go about their lawful businesses.
Lagos police spokesman, Bala Ikhana, said after profiling of the men, nothing incriminating was found on them.
Mr Elkanah, a deputy superintendent of police, said the suspicion and subsequent interception of the truck arose from the manner they came in, in large number, sardined in a truck.
He added that most of them were living in Lagos and went homes for the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
One of the 123 detainees who spoke to DAILY NIGERIAN said they were all released and allowed to enter Lagos but were asked to report to police station on Monday.
