There’s something deeply, deeply troubling about this – when did being “Okada riders….from the North” become an offence? Criminalising identity & poverty is fast becoming a norm in #Nigeria. That’s a 1-way street to mutual destruction — Chidi Odinkalu

That area of town is meant for industries and not religious houses. A church, The King Assembly, bought but forfeited the land because it was dubiously assigned to them. Till date, they have not acquired the said piece but have found solace in another property in GRA. That's a church. Unless you are telling us the mosque is an industry.

The argument is not about the area. It's about demolition of the Mosque structure that is being denied.

If at all what you're saying is the truth, why not give them in written that they need to acquire another land elsewhere because religious building are not allowed in the area rather than demolishing it and claiming your state is Christian state.

By that they can sell it to another industry, move to other place and purchase new land.

Indeed they have raised a structure which Wike demolished. And that plot of land was legally purchased at the sum of 11 million naira.

Politics / Ganduje To Sue Wike For Demolition Of Mosque In Rivers by Fariq: 3:00pm On Aug 31, 2019
The governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje, has described the story of mosque demolition in Rivers State as shocking, promising to drag the governor of the state, Nyesom Wike, to court.

“We received this information with high degree of shock. And I am assuring the general public that, all necessary action against this demolition will be taken through appropriate authorities,” Mr Ganduje said in a statement by his spokesman, Abba Anwar.

The action, according to the governor include “Legal action against this demolition of the Mosque”.

“This will not go without taking it to the appropriate authorities for redress.”

Mr Ganduje called on the public to remain calm and peaceful and go about their normal businesses, as government had started efforts against the demolition.

“Kano state is known for peaceful coexistence between Muslims and Christians, we should therefore improve on that and remain calm and peaceful. People should please live peacefully with one another,” Mr Ganduje added.

Politics / Mosques Demolition: Senator Shekarau Slams Governor Wike by Fariq: 2:21pm On Aug 31, 2019
Former Governor of Kano state, Ibrahim Shekarau, has condemned in a strong terms Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike over demolishing of Rainbow Town Central Mosque located at the Trans-Amadi Area of Port Harcourt.

Shekarau in a statement signed by his media aide, Sule Ya’u Sule, said Nigeria belongs to all, and no state in Nigeria could claim to be mono religious, lamenting that “it only takes a responsible leadership to carry everybody along.”

The former governor, who is now Senator representing Kano central, said Governor Wike’s action was a pointer to him being induced by other than rationale brain waves, as no leader in his right senses would contemplate stoking such embers of discord in a country so religiously, ethnically and regionally charged as Nigeria.

He said, “Wike’s claim that Rivers is a Christian State is pathological. It suggests that not only are the people of Rivers State 100 per cent Christians, but Muslims and adherents of other religions from other parts of Nigeria cannot make Rivers State their home. It also insinuates that Rivers State operates a government, a constitution of its own, different from the Nigerian Nation.”

“It means Rivers State does not recognize or protect the interests of people like Alabo Mujahid Dokubo Asari, Alhaji Isa Boaima, Alhaji Sani Okiri, Alhaji Ahmed Sani Pe, Alhaji Abdul’aziz Pepple, Alhaji Suleiman Akani, Alhaji Ibrahim Orlu, Alhaji Musa Brown, Chief Hassan Douglas and Alhaji Mustapha Wakama who are all Muslims and productive citizens of Rivers State.”

Shekarau pointed out that this was not the first time Wike would show his reckless side in utterances and actions, recalling that last year, he threatened his own Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) hierarchy that they either hold the party’s convention in Port Harcourt or, as he vowed, risk his destroying the party.

There is nothing like middle belt. What we have is states in the north central and you are not in the position to speak for north central. Niger State is part of this Ruga arrangement, so deal with it.

Politics / Kano Igbos Meet Ganduje, Reject Call For Relocation Of Fulani From South (Pics) by Fariq: 12:37pm On Jul 21, 2019
Press Statement
RUGA Project : Ganduje, Kano Igbos Reject Call For Relocation of Fulani From South

With the heightened tension in the national body polity, due to some calls from some notable Northern political leaders that all Fulani herdsmen living in the Southern part of the country should relocate to the North, the Kano state governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje alongside Igbo leaders from Kano reject the idea, while describing it as divisive and retrogressive.

Ganduje kicks that, "Those who are calling on the Fulani to leave South, we don't share the same feeling with them. People have a choice, as far as Nigerian constitution is concerned, to live wherever they chose to. But they must respect laws and cultures of those they are living with."

For the Eze Ndigbo Kano, President General and Igbo Traditional Leader in Diaspora, Igwe Boniface Ibekwe challenges that, "Just look at what is happening now, some people are calling on Fulani to come back to the North. So if they come back what will happen to us here in the North?

He continued, "...Our people will tell us to go back to South. Is that what our forefathers wished to see us doing? We are therefore rejecting such call coming from some quarters. It does not mean well for the corporate existence of our dear country."

All the rejections by the governor and Ibekwe were pronounced during a Special Dinner organised by governor Ganduje in honour of Eze Ibekwe to rejoice with him, on his 10th Offalla anniversary, which took place at Africa House, Government House, Kano, Saturday night.

In attendance at the dinner were the representative of the former Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, who was represented by Hon. Kene Nzekwe (FNIQS), His Highness Eze P.N. Wahiwe from Niger state, President General of Igbo in Diaspora Assembly, Chief Chi-Nwogu, Chief Ebenezer Chima and many other Ezes and Chiefs from all the 19 Northern states.

Governor argues that, there was no doubt that Nigeria is a heterogeneous society with different religions and nationalities which calls for mutual respect among different people, insisting that, "As we are all creatures of Allah, it is duty bound on all of us to always respect Allah's creatures. No two way about it."

He repeated it that, the issue of Fulani roaming about from one place to another should be stopped. Arguing that, "We must find a way of turning the table from being social and cultural engagement to become social and economic. Herders should drop the cultural attachment to their rearing activities and make their rearing become economically beneficial."

It was with that singular thinking that, he called on the federal government to put a halt to the ever increasing movement of herders from one state to another.
"It is because we want bring out economic benefit out of the whole exercise that we inaugurated a RUGA Settlement Committee for us to have it in Kano. And to most fundamentally, run away from the insecurity posture poses by the herders farmers clashes everywhere," he explained.

While observing that, the major problem of herders is education, "...because they are not settled in one place for them to get educated. And that is the fact," says Ganduje, he further argued that, "That is why we said this issue of migrating from one society to another should be avoided."

Adding that it has been part of his effort and that of his government, to find a way of educating Fulani herders, "Because we want them to come to a reality and understand the meaning of development. Without education you cannot be able to understand the real meaning of the concept of development. You cannot understand how it works," he explains.

Governor Ganduje reiterates his commitment towards making sure that RUGA project takes off in Kano, emphasising that, "It is through that, that we can able to educate our Fulani brothers and sisters. And I have been nurturing this idea long before now. That was why we sent Fulani youth, 75 of them, to Turkey to be trained on on Artificial Insemination. They are back now. So we need to put them into good use for the society."

"I was born in RUGA (hamlet). I learned how to speak Hausa when I was in Primary One. I was educated while my parents believed and understood the dire need to educate their children and the children of others. If not because of that Allah's Blessing I wouldn't have this opportunity to stand before you," he argues jokingly.

On the accommodative nature of the state he explained that, though Kano is a commercial nerve centre of Northern Nigeria, but he still argues that, the state was not an Island of itself, "We reach this position because we receive and accommodate other people from other places. Every individual you see has his or her comparative advantage," he reminded.

While commending all the security agencies for their efforts in making Kano a safer place, he also thanked people for their cooperation with the security agents and their continued prayers all the time, "I am happy that people have come to realise that, security is the main prerequisite for any meaningful development to take off," Ganduje observes.

Explaining further that if there is no peace and stability nothing moves, noting that, "We work day and night with the security agencies while also banking on community policing. We use ICT-based technology to curb all menace of insecurity in the land. We don't have crisis of tribal or religious in our state. And we are striving hard to avoid them."

Eze Ibekwe calls his people to always be law abiding citizens, assuring them that, "We are very happy that we are safe in the hands of our governor Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. Kano is the safest place in Nigeria," he appreciates.

While giving a vote of thanks the representative of the former Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Ngige, Hon. Nzekwe, he thanked governor Ganduje for accommodating all Nigerians peacefully in Kano irrespective of their tribal or religious background.

"I am highly elated to see that we have good leaders like you Your Excellency, people that are highly detribalised and highly patriotic. We need more of you Sir in this country. And I will take back your good leadership style for accurate explanation to our people at home. We thank you very much Sir," he appreciates.

Politics / If Standard Gauge Rail Did Not Reach Kano By 2023 Then APC Should Forget It by Fariq: 11:59am On Jun 23, 2019
If developmental infrastructural project of Buhari APC led government start and ends in with Southwest and north Central, then APC should be rest assured they will lose northwest black and blue.

Malam Aminu Kano International airport new terminal is still under construction after more than 4 years.

The Kano - Kaduna segment of Lagos Kano railway is still a paper project. They were ask to start the project concurrently with Lagos Ibadan but they did not. And now they are planing to construct from Ibadan to Abuja then link with Niger, then Kano.
If it did not eventually reach Kano by 2023, APC forget it.

All we have in kano today as infrastructure in the last 4 years are Ganduje work and not Buhari.

Only the continuation of so called road reconstruction that start with Obasanjo and could not be completed up till now. Then the new road reconstruction project (abuja - kaduna - Kano) that Fashola initiate when he could no longer bear the heat.

In Zamfara, what project can APC point out? Banditry
In Katsina, the University of Transport is still a paper project.
Nothing for Jigawa.
I have not seen anything for Sokoto and Kebbi. If there are any people from this region should educate me.
