Blackmoran: my problem with this is that they want to recall her because she said something that goes against popular opinion meaning the youth are no different from there government who try to shun people when they say things against them.. there is freedom of speech.... I don't have a problem if they want to recall her because she under performed, am OK with that... buy recalling her because she her opinion is madness to me.. She insulted her constituency by saying most the youths in the country are drug addicts. An outsider can take it as the people of Amowu Odofin think every Nigerian youth is a drug addict since she is speaking on their behalf. That's like going to Ogun state and calling everyone a dirty blood sucking ritualist. Compared the unemployment situation in the US to that of Nigeria which is not equivalent at all. She said unemployed graduates should become tilers, while probably having good intentions why not ask why a graduate can't get a job in his/her field of study? She then rambled aimlessly about statistics when it is quite clear she didn't look at any of the readily available statistics when making her ridiculous speech. There was also the sharing of palliatives as Birthday gifts. When you are an elected official speaking in that capacity you are speaking for your people and she spoke incorrectly, ignorantly and inconsiderately. When she is not speaking to the House of Assembly she can air her personal opinions to her family members. |

Blackmoran: madness so you want to recall her for airing her opinion.... and not her representing you or doing her job.....when they say Nigeria youth behave like children this is case 101 The way she spoke it is clear she has no intention of properly representing her constituency. The youth, and even some people who weren't youths followed the democratic process and asked her to leave. If they don't do anything you will still call them lazy and only interested in reality TV shows. |

thebosstrevor1: Waste of time.
These people are the problems of Nigeria. People must not agree with you.
The constitution supports free speech, these so called comrades are infringing on her right.
Free speech and freedom of expression is in trouble if these children continue to behave like babies. This is a case of freedom after speech, she has spoken and they don't want her anymore. It is also their right to remove representatives who do not serve their interests. |

ILoveDemMANNA: Nothing but the truth!
How did some people misunderstand Desmond Elliot asking that the speaker 'ADDRESS' the impressions social media influencers and the youths were popularizing about their bad governance and rotten system, and interpret it as meaning that he was asking that the government 'regulate' Nigerian social media altogether?
He expressed his dismay at the negativity and toxicity on Nigerian social media( which if we are to be realistic and sincere to ourselves we would agree to some extent).
At what point does this mean that he was asking the speaker to shut down or regulate social media?
Is Facebook not even already 'regulating' negativity on their platform by taking down posts with excessive abusive speech?
Does Nigeria operate a communist system like China that we would assume that regulating social media is even possible?
How can we rush to conclusions without fully analysing language and syntax?
Some Naija youths, think please. Manna and co should just keep shut. If it was PDP you will be screaming your heads off about it. The same stick you use to beat others will eventually be used to beat you. |

I can never vote for democratic party they will turn America into Nigeria. If these people was so good they still don't develop their country that going to develop another man's country. Bunch of illiterate It's the Republicans you must be thinking about they have all the hallmarks of a Nigerian politician. - socially conservative and forcing rules upon others that go against their intended goals because they hate independent thinking. - against social amenities and public infrastructure like hospitals, schools being funded by the government, they would rather those things rot and private entities price whatever they want than spend money on them. - against environmental protections, consumer protections and worker's protections because they believe that businesses should do what they want in a free market. This means America can turn to Ogoniland where oil is extracted for companies and government but the people suffer from the effects. - hate anyone who isn't following their religion or from their ethnic group. No wonder people on nairaland love Republicans so much, that is what they are used to seeing in Nigeria. |

Adakintroy: It's all relative. Money could have value then. But then again how many people earn 50k back then. That's not the point.
The point is this generation take things for granted. Our fathers did not even have access to the technology we have now.
Most of them did not even drive cars all their life. It was a pipe dream for them.
But here we are today..free democracy the protest. Education s behind us. Technology and all. What is our gratitude to the ones before us?
Abuse. More abuse. They failed us.
Bunch of fools. Your father failed you. Yet your life's compared the their s is far better. 50,000 then was like 20 million now. If I work for 40 years on 50,000 without spending a kobo on food, housing, transport or family I will get 24 million. This generation isn't taking anything for granted, older people with a chip on their shoulder just love beating the young when they are down. If the ones before us put the youths to the same standards as themselves we should be living like Europeans. Instead we are still shouting up NEPA after 60 years, still drilling borehole after 60 years, still driving in mud after 60 years, still going abroad for medical treatment after 60 years. Our hard working president contested for over 12 years but when he had gotten his wish he didn't have a plan, kept asking for more time, he got reelected and he didn't care anymore. Hard working elders who only know how to throw Owambe and spend millions on AC for a dead man. |

I feel you are only defending him because he is a celebrity turned politician.
Desmond messed up, he was more concerned about belittling young people who said mean things on the internet than their lives being under threat. He assumes these problems that led to the protest and riots started overnight because of social media and wasn't because of decades of mismanagement.
How do you want us to respect an Oba that hides food meant for his people in his house?
At least he was right about one thing, there might not be a Nigeria soon, and it won't be the youths that killed it, it would be the current administration of kleptocrats. |

See how the Nigerian soldier keeps embarrassing the uniform and country.
Never in my life would i allow anyone i know join the Nigerian army..
Back in the days, i had so much respect and love for them..But, it seems, except a miracle, there is no hope in sight..
Why would they even kill people they are meant to protect? Or beat up those they should protect?
Im not surpised because the Nigerian Army don turn hoodlums too.. That's because in Nigeria the military's greatest enemy is the people. It might sound shocking but it's true. Just think why do they have such a strong desire to beat up civilians? It is part of their training to be seen as superior. https://lailasnews.com/the-worst-thing-in-life-is-to-be-a-civilian-newly-recruited-nigerian-soldiers-says-vows-to-flog-nigerian-civilians-video/That's because we don't have any real external enemies to defend against therefore they must focus their hostilities inward. The bloody civilians must know their place and not upset the order of their masters. That's also why despite rising insecurity the government will never allow ordinary citizens to get trained and bear arms in national service like other countries do because they don't want the educated class forming an effective revolution. |
