Before nko, should the policeman be looking like lookman as someone is stabbing him? huh

Please keep in mind that you shouldn't assault someone and call it self defence, we Nigerians don't have gun.

The manner the media and civilians carelessly bash the military online without bothering to check further and realise that there are more to every stories is alarming and demoralising. Remove the military and see Nigerian streets becoming extremely intolerable and the terrorist migrating straight to our door mouths. Let's change our mindsets about the military. A SET-MIND is not good I'm judgement. The question is "Was the military hospital informed before they stormed the place?" So disrespectful to the military even.
There's a bloody murder investigation going on and they are impeding it.

Terrorists have already been at the doorsteps of people in Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, Plateau and Kaduna.

You seem to think the aversion to the military exists in a vacuum but ignore the various assaults on civilians, killings and overall disregard for the law that permeates the institution.

If the military changes people will love them, you can't give people slaps and expect love in return.

These are the Points made by Desmond Elliot that the so called influencers are crying about:

1. Elliot called on the speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly to “address certain things” like “the Nigerian youth, the social media, the social influencers”.
He said that all of these are making the narratives that we are seeing today.

2. Social media, though good, has its negative impacts.”

3. When I went through the comments, I could not believe it, Mr. Speaker. The curses, the abuses from children. And I ask myself ‘Is this Nigeria? What is going on?’ Children cursing?”

4. Culture is gone, and warned the House that “in the next five years, Nigeria is gone if we don’t start now.”

5. He called on celebrities, influencers and motivational speakers to use their platforms to “stop the hatred” as they have the means to change governments.

Me: So please, I need someone to point out where Desmund said the terrible things that they are crying about here ?
It appears that there is a grand plan to cyber bully any voice of reason!
One again it was Davido that picked up this and started writing!
He wasn't complaining about regulating social media when he used it to campaign. The government wasn't complaining about social media when they used it to boot out PDP from having a political majority. When it is used to expose their wickedness it is suddenly in need of regulation.

You guys never done with Tinubu! Did the old man govern Abia state or Bayelsa state? He's not responsible for the lack of development in those states or Nigeria at large now! All he did was to govern Lagos state many years ago. Olofo lonbinu ologo
He was also APC party chairman, his family owns numerous businesses in the state and he is the one who decides who the next governor of Lagos is.

Wasn't the start of the ENDSARS protest caused by young people who didn't have conventional jobs and appearances being labelled as criminals and then killed or extorted?
Politics › Re: Sanai Agunbiade: ENDSARS Has Political Undertone, Influencers Must Be Fished Out by Farki: 7:18pm On Oct 29, 2020
Anything the government doesn't like has political undertone.

This man is severely out of touch, he says the notion of hunger and fake news by online influencers aggravated things forgetting

- The attacks on the people by the military and police
- The real hunger and poverty that exists in Lagos
- The hoarding of palliatives for selfish reasons

This man thinks the influencers will end Nigeria but actually the failure of the government to do their bloody jobs will end Nigeria, he is just too blind and self absorbed to see it.

He is talking about 5 years, already pushing the problems down the road, when it's time for campaign he will be talking as if he can solve Nigeria's problems overnight.

To top it off this is the same stupid man that was keeping COVID-19 palliatives to distribute for his birthday. angry

And when they run, they take every member of their family, nuclear and extended right?

What is your own location right now?

Taking about the laws:

Laws are made to address past, immediate and future societal issues.

Till tomorrow, people would be arrested, prosecuted, convicted and jailed for their so-called "freedom of speech" once they seen to incite, promote violence and debased others.

Many of you don't even know what you are breeding.
Continue to miss the point of what I wrote. Just look at the sheer number of Nigerian sportsmen and women representing Bahrain, England, America and so on. The large swathes of doctors getting working visas as soon as they are out of medical school. You will continue to miss the point and Nigeria will continue to suffer because your head is placed firmly in your rectum.

I know the way the APC government wants to use this law is in silencing those who criticise them as seen in several other countries when failed leaders rely on force to maintain power.

Maybe because you think the current government will last forever you are talking like this. The opposition will use it to beat the likes of you relentlessly.

As Elliot said, except you are not a Nigerian , you die here.
Guess what those laws were created before Internet social media even existed. The German law was created in the aftermath of World War 2.

The other laws are laws against inciting violence which Nigeria already has (Section 62 subsection 2 (i) (a-g) of the 1990 Nigerian criminal code.

If they made those statements on paper, or said it in public it wouldn't matter because they would still be arrested.

If the government or any aggrieved party has a problem with an Internet personality they should use existing laws and not play smart by introducing vague legislation that would give them a monopoly of the truth.

Furthermore your last statement is total rubbish, continue to deceive yourself as skilled professionals run away to develop other countries.

I understand your point whole heartedly. But I believe that when such laws are being created, several factors will be put into consideration including the preservation of human right and free speech, hence the balance mentioned earlier in my previous post.

Social media is too volatile to be left without any control.. I want to sleep knowing that when my kids visit the website, they will be protected against any misinformation, fake news, amorality etc.
If you want to protect your kids do your job as a father and teach them right from wrong.

This current Nigerian political establishment will never care about human rights and freedom of speech, just power and making more willing zombies that will thank them for getting pure water as empowerment on this forum.

History has shown social media regulation is another tool for oppressive regimes. That's all I will say on this.

He is representing his constituents by calling for peace via social media regulation.

Do you also ask who ordered a traffic police to stop you? Nobody ordered any shooting.
So the soldiers were shooting by themselves? Is that not a crime deserving of court martial to take action without prior command, especially on civilians? Or is there a terrorist group masquerading as the Nigerian army? huh

Again this is where you are getting it wrong.

In everything, there should be a balance hence the need for regulatory laws that are fair and just. And remember, over time these laws can be revised just like any other existing laws.

I simply believe it is dangerous to let the social media stratosphere run amock.
Regulation of social media goes against freedom of speech principles, now you are giving the government license to prosecute, jail and kill you because of the things you say. Now where they will abuse it is that whatever they say is the truth no matter how contradictory it is.

Just look at the Army trading blames with the Lagos State government trying to cover up what happened. Are you going to tell me it is a good idea to let them decide what you can and can't say?

I agree with Desmond.

Social media remains a vast sea of uncharted territory and regardless of its uses, it has proven time and time again to be deadly - a potential weapon of mass destruction that lacks any clear stringent regulatory laws to curtail its excesses.

And irrespective of what you and I may think now, let it be clear that a time will eventually come when the world will collectively agree that this hydra-headed monster called social media must be reigned in to mitigate against any future man-made disasters.
You are asking for the whole world to become like Saudi Arabia where posting your opinion gets you beheaded. The only way to counter lies is with the truth, what you are proposing is first silly and also dangerous.
