CharlesPhc: President Goodluck Jonathan has approved the composition of a Presidential Committee to study and draw up the implementation strategy for the recently-concluded 2014 National Conference.

A terse statement issued on Friday in Abuja by the Assistant Director (Press) in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. Oise Johnson, named the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Mohammed Bello Adoke (SAN), as chairman while the SGF, Mr. Anyim Pius Anyim will function as Secretary of the committee.

Other members of the committee are the Minister of Transport, Senator Idris Umar; Minister of State for Finance, Ambassador Bashir Yuguda; Minister of Aviation, Mr. Osita Chidoka; Minister of State for Federal Capital Territory Administration, Oloye Olajumoke Akinjide and Minister of Works, Architect Mike Onolememen

The committee’s terms of reference include studying the Report of the 2014 National Conference; articulating the recommendations therein and developing appropriate strategies for its implementation and advising the Federal Government on all matters necessary for the effective implementation of the Report.

The statement encouraged the committee to take off immediately.

slimmy05: The House of Representatives moved on Thursday to stop the practice of recruiting workers as "casual, contract or temporary staff" in the country's labour industry.

A bill to limit the casual or temporary status of employees to two years, passed second reading at the House on Thursday.

It is an amendment bill to the Labour Act, 2004.

By the provision of the bill, employers are required to convert any casual worker in their organisations to "permanent status" immediately they clock two years working as temporary staff.

The sponsor of the bill, Mr. Emmanuel Jime, told the House that there were many Nigerians working as "casual staff for years" in some organisations without any indications that they would be converted to permanent staff.

He argued that the practice created discrimination in the work place, making those workers remain inferior to others.

Besides, Jime noted that the discrimination affected the economic well-being of the casual workers.

"It means, we have two categories of workers. We have the permanent ones and the casual ones in the same work place. This division is unacceptable and unhealthy for economic  growth", he added.

The long title of the bill read, “A Bill for Act to Amend the Labour Act, Cap. LI, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004, to Provide a Time frame for the Regulation of Casual or Temporary Employment to Permanent Status by all Employers of Labour in Nigeria and for other Matters Related thereto.”

Members applauded the bill, passing it for the second reading in a voice vote.

The session was presided over by the Deputy Speaker, Mr. Emeka Ihedioha

State Services (DSS), said the motive of the
various groups protesting and mounting
pressure on the Federal Government to free
the Chibok girls were not genuine.
Ogar, spokesperson of DSS stated this on
Wednesday while responding to a question
at the National Information Centre on
whether the groups had a franchise to
protest.
“I think you are right if you refer to the
group as a franchise, security forces know
exactly what they are up to.
“If it is an ordinary movement seeking to put
pressure on government and security forces
to release these girls, there will be no need
for the groups to have tags.
“Insisting that you must have a tag, you
must be properly registered.
“Security forces know that they have bank
account, they also know that they want to
go to Asokoro extension to simulate
movement that they are marching into
Sambisa and Chibok,’’ she said.
Ogar further alleged that the group had
arranged and brought in some foreign media
to cover the false march.
She said that security forces were also
aware that the groups had brought in some
foreign experts to come and teach them how
to beat security operations when they
demonstrate.
“We also know that they have divided
themselves into groups and zones, giving
each other specific assignments.
“When there is a genuine struggle, it must
be done transparently, no need for you to
ask people to register, who is a member or
not, and to pay monthly dues, I mean it is
getting very ridiculous.
“You do not go and hire people to claim
parenthood of a child that they did not give
birth to, so it is a franchise, we know,’’ she
said.
Ogar accused the groups of carrying smear
campaign against certain government
officials, adding that they were aware that
they paid visit prominent people soliciting

So the whole nation will put heads together to chart a way forward only for it to be ratified by a bunch of selfish persons who'd waste no time in discarding whatever resolution that doesn't favour their pockets.
