The 2 are fine, one sleeping on my chest now.
As per ccnn you've already seen the 9months for it.i actually expect a rub off effect on it this feb.
for eterna, that loss wasn't an operational loss. It has good prospects.
Also my pc just blinked its name at N16.Really cheap.I actually plan to squeeze out some nice percentage from it.

Access on its way up. Am still holding fire beofre i sell. This result had better be good, otherwise all these gains will be wiped off in 3 days. I still dey siddon look. I think am no longer targeting 25 but 27. cool
Hahahahahahahaha,
my brother you go need to stick to your guns oh.There are many things you consider before deciding to sell oh.If you let greediness tempt you,you will be having only spreadsheet money as i've always said. The market sometimes buys a stock to a point that it already anticpates the results and hence the fair value for the stock.By the time the result comes out,it won't move much.I'll advice that you tell your broker that he should put his ear to the ground tomorrow. If Access releases by tomorrow, let him not sell.If it doesn't and it still gains N1.10 tomorrow, you would have reached your target and also a reasonably fair price for the stock.I can bet a temporary u-turn will occur after this next two days if the result doesn't come out.You can reenter at the end of the u-turn because results are beta released at the lower end of a u-turn in order to give the stock room to rally.Right now, room to rally is getting limited.

Hello Everyone,

Happy New Year to all the members of this great forum. I pray that the Most High God in HIS infinite mercy will lead each and everyone of us to our CANAAN LAND this year, AMEN.

@ FATHER OF TWO, I can see that you have great confidence in CCNN, please could you shed more light on why you think one can still join the train at the present price(#23.00K).

And as per UBA, how far do you think it can go between now and February before it starts to drop again.

Peace.
Did you miss the 9 month result for ccnn.Surprising considering the sectors current performance.
Also i expect wapco to rub off on it by Feb.
But wait for the next cycle of descent on that stock before a MUST entrance.

@Father of 2 & Aktopgun

your comments have been absorbed and digested.

@all
i was just studying the price movements of the ins coys. it seems it is a bit to late to jump on board unless a correction happens soon. e.g. crusader from N4 in november to N6 now. is it not a bit to late to jump on board. Unic from 2.35 in november to N4 now. which insurance coys still have hope of rising even higher.
@ father of 2
continental re has gained over N1 during the same period. anything in the offing to make it still a favoured one. what is the proposed time period. how soon do you think UBA's result will be out. will like to cycle out of phb and into uba then into gtb. abi how you check am. do you think uba can do N60 on the basis of their 1st quarter results.
Yes you're right about most of the insurance coys. Some are getting over priced.I still expect some 10-15% from continental-re in the next 1 week at the least. Some others need to come down a bit this january, besides that, its not insurance season yet.
Uba and PHb could release results about same time oh (prob. feb).It will be difficult to cycle both except you put money in both.UBA is still cheap at current price.
you could start taking position in gtb during the next descent in a few weeks time after its current rise. You have to keep your eyes very open for it,it will flash itself either at the begining or sometime during the feb month.
Na so i check am oh.

@kpineo

about your comment on Mbenefit, not to worry, as long as u met your exit point when u sold it( from your tears, i'm guessing u didn't).

things like that will happen to the best of us and its really about your plan at the time u bought the shares.

not to worry, the opportunities will come round again in some other form. at that time, remember, set an exit price suitable for u and close your eyes thereafter should there be any price appreciation once u've sold.
all the best man
@Kpineo

This is a nice one from aktopgun.Never fret about what happens after. You'll only fret if you did not meet your target exit price.Once you strike your percentage objective, don't worry what happens after.I say this a lot, opportunities come up every single day on NSE,you just have to learn to see and pick it up.
Happy Newyear to you and everyone on nairaland.

Oceanic Bank

I'll be cautious about the plan to sell Oceanic on Thursday or Friday. Folks that buy on these dates will not qualify for the dividends since their names cannot appear on the register until after the closure date of 7th January. The latest day to buy and qualify for dividends is Wednesday, 2nd of January. Some folks will not know, but the big volume buyers will know and avoid the stock.

There may not be sufficient buyers on those days for the folks trying to sell to take profit. Nothing can be more painful for some than watching your profit disappear because you cannot sell.

Just a thought.

Wishing everyone a very happy new year.
Pumping welcome back from your white christmas.
Na brown snow christmas i don dey ski since.
Meanwhile you need to double check that closure date for oceanic,i believe its 9th jan.

Guessing stock price isn't an easy thingy at all wink wink I remember few weeks ago when most guys here said Oceanic wont go beyond 30 bucks because of them too much outstanding shares , well here we are today and Oceanic is almost 40 Naira .
Now the current gist here is that we exist Thursday or Wednesday or the price might come crashing again , now should i ignore this warning like i did the first one about the price never crossing 30 Naira this year ? Actually i expect the stock to inch a little bit upward because of the dividends thingy ( some still consider it important )
Anyways me bought them Oceanic at 27 Naira and would be watching as things develop .
Its like a relay race.I believe you know the 4 x 400m relay race.Oceanic in the coming days is like the man about to finish the last 80m of his lap and hand the batten over for renewed momentum. There's little margin between the next few days and N40,meanwhile you could give your money renewed momentum by going into a stock like ccnn or continental-re and attain a higher percentage gain which oceanic can never never get to in the very nearest future.Remember something,a few factors are not in their favour oh.They'll soon list po shares.More and more individuals are collecting certificates and eager (with red eyes) to cash out.You know what will happen after then.

Whatelse should we be positioning for, did i hear UBA. but they already announced their results without much funfare and no bnous, so what will drive up the prices. Will it be the Zenith effect?
Both the zenith effect and Q1 result for UBA.it was quite cheap last friday.
some stocks i targeted earlier are afraid of planet earth right now.

I've actually targeted that stock for exit by Thursday. That will make it 10 straight gain making sessions. Its hard for a stock to make it pass 10 most times.

Bank PHB offer ended Dec 19th.
Three weeks from that date, it will be time to start making returns back to the main issuing houses for that offer.
Expect some new opportunities to re-arise because some brokers will need to sell some of those stocks for which they have been using
other peoples money to trade.people in question(those who send money to buy ipo's/po's and they're never bought immediately, instead the broker trades with it till its time to make returns.)

@ All,

With regards to Oceanic, I think I will not settle for the dividend but rather take my capital appreciation on shares. It better that way and the gains would be more.

Bought PO at N16.50 and bought on the floor at N28+. The capital appreciation is definitely more than the dividend and since there is no bonus, it better I sell them at a peak. looking at N37 or is there a higher price.

After dividends have been paid, I can buy at a lower price.

I feel I tend to gain more this way.

Thanks
I'd suggest you make an oceanic exit between wednesday and thursday.I'm watching the number of trading sessions.Dividend is nothing.Hope you still bought UBA as said earlier.
Keep a close eye on FCMB now. A time for one exit and another reentry will make itself available this january until 9 months is due.
Access is very very very very imminent.

I think you should make more friendship with your stockbroker.

This phrase is very important. You see these guys have all the insights, its like your banker (the one who holds your money) many a book will advice you
to make good friends with your bank manager (it helps in accessing loans/credits).
Same goes with your broker,if you sit down and ask them pointed questions about things that are of interest to you in the NSE,you'll be surprised what they'll tell you.One told me recently that all one of his clients asks him is what should i buy?,when  should i sell.Sometimes they want you to show that you're trying to help yourself (sound a little educated stockwise).
Most of the tips/techniques i learnt on the NSE arose from a few frank evening discussions i had directly with my broker over time.

@ Easimoni

Can you please use a typical example (e.g. bought Nascon @ 22 and then starts falling) to discuss this averaging down concept. I always come across it, but to me one is still in a loss position no matter what.

@ All Gugurus

In 2008 we shall become Gurus, grin
kpineo happy christmas and Newyear. You're already a guru, you'll only be better by next year.My advice to you and many others is to always keep track and records of all that has happened and will happen in the NSE.That will be your map for 09'

The stock market is always rigged to make you loose. But no fears my brother, like easimoni says it will be ok.
In the newyear new strategies shall be revealed.

@ololufemi,

    I don't only wish you a merry christmas and Newyear, i also pray for more wisdom for you
and that your pocket shall grow fat this year.Very fat with cash.

I shall say special prayers for all by 12midnight of Dec 31st.
The stock market requires prayer so God will always make the right stock picks for us all.Only he can see the 4th quarter result.
And let us remember to give something this December out of all the profits for 07' so 08' will be bountifull.
God showers blessings on every single one of us each day.If you close and tighten your fist because you're holding on to that small money, you won't receieve more STOCK MONEY.
Its only when you open that fist to give that the shower of blessing will land on your palm literally.

invisible!:
@ Father of 2, the correct number to be used in IPO'S is the all numeric number. Even trade alerts are sent to me with the all numeric number. The alpha numeric number is the identification number with which your broker is identified, but if on the other hand your broker tells you to use it, fine we'll see who is right six months down the line.
Not interested in going further on this point.
GET CLEAR CONFIRMATION FROM YOUR BROKER ON WHAT YOU SHOULD WRITE/DO ON YOUR IPO FORMthats the issue not trade alert ON FRIDAY.

@FATHEROF2,

I beg to disagree with you as regards which number to write on IPO/PO application forms. The correct number to use is the NUMERIC and not the ALPHANUMERIC as you mentioned in one of your posts to Ololufemi. The NUMERIC is your personal account where the share goes into, while the ALPHANUMERIC is your clearing house number.

Peace.
Don't do IPO/PO's. Use it for trade alert.
Also have you ever received an E-BONUS advice.
Its clearly written there (ALPHANUMERIC).
In addition have you viewed your portfolio online by logging into CSCS?.
You can only do so by inputing your clearing house number (ALPHANUMERIC).
The two words are just used interchangeably. Some call the clearing house number the "CSCS account number".
The clearing house number is the important number.
IF IN DOUBT,CALL YOUR BROKER ON FRIDAY MORNING.no go put wrong number for IPO form oh,na me go collect your sharesoh.
InvestmentRe: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by FatherOF2: 6:22am On Dec 19, 2007
Wow,have been so busy for hours this christmas period.
Christmas rush at the office.
Missed many pages.

@ Easimoni,
The strategy never fails.Things are changing now in the NSE.
Those days, a stock would be on TS for like 8months or so and this was enough time to cause some scarcity in the market for that stock, when TS is lifted boom its up.Its like a friend you've not seen for years. When e come back from travel, you go kiss am,hold am hug am until you don tire for am.
Now the bull run post TS is coupled to results being released just after its lifted from TS.TS is shorter now.
For FCMB,there is just no need to worry about it. It was expected. The expected plan was that FCMB would release their Q2 result at least 2-3weeks after TS was lifted. But they decided to release it about 2weeks or so before TS was off, so all the fanfare had died down during the period of inactivity.
BUT, 9 months is around the corner(and thats the next trigger).
I expect same strategy with BankPHB that is if Bank PHB does not release its Q2 before they're lifted.I don't expect they'll do so because Q2 ends this december and the offer ends Dec 19.Add 3 weeks to that for TS to be lifted and we'll be in mid Jan.Now it takes at least a month after a quarter ends before interim results are released. So PHB should do so early FEB and that will be its trigger again.
Same applies to Zenith Bank.
The only observation i could make now is that you could be safe if you buy on the floor during TS,but with the current trend, you could just be lucky to find a slightly better price (5% better) than the TS price. The lowest Access could get to post TS was N17.60thats still a safe price from TS price, but Access now is hovering around N21 plus.Anyone who bought at TS or just after TS is still in profit and is bound to hit more profit.Even some got their 25% and have re-purchased it again at N20.

@ ololufemi

The first number is your CSCS account number
The second number (ALPHANUMERIC)is your Clearing house number. This is the more important number which you use on PO forms and others.
The first number is for their internal reference.

@ wanajo

Thanks. But those guys that were buying WAPCO at N90 early this year.Where dem dey last December.
If i get Wapco now, before the time i know they announce i don offload now.It consistently makes more of its rise before announcement.
At N71 now, you're only N6 shots from its WHOLE YEAR average price and still quite safe to scrape some 25% from it.
NBC i expect to go down again before its time for its final run,the market had anticipated it too much.I got some 45% off it earlier in the year though in
1 month.
