LookingUntoHIM: Hi Guy's, Thanks to y’all that take time out to help people here. I’m currently in the US on a J-2 and plan to come home for my Dad’s funeral, I filled my DS-160 some days ago but all I’ve been seeing is “there are currently no available appointments’. Is there a way to get around that? Also, I think I’m eligible for a Dropbox as my visa expired less than 48months ago but I also haven’t gotten any confirmation email based on what I’ve read that one will get that first if eligible. Do you think changing the venue from Lagos to Abuja might be of any help? Don’t mind that fool, yes you qualify for Dropbox. Look for dates you can drop off your documents, usually if you find a date, it shouldn’t take more than 2 weeks to get your visa approved. If they need an in-person interview, they will schedule you. |

OyoTunjiUSA: Hey 🤠
1. You are not the real person in this situation , and if you are the person, then you don't understand the kind of visa you got .
2. USA J2 visa is a dependent of J1 visa holder and J1/J2 visa holders must return to their country of origin after the J1 (main applicant) program. Not only that, you must stay in your country of origin for straight 2 years without traveling abroad ( J1 visa holder and USA govt agreement) or applying for USA visa that can springboard you for PR.
3. Although, you can apply for the waiver of the compulsory 2 years - stay at home policy but you can only do that while in the USA or apply for extension of J2 visa if you can prove awaiting danger at home etc .
4. You are already illegal in the USA and i doubt if the USA embassy will take you serious again because you have only 30 days to stay behind after your J2 visa expiration.
5. Your question here is like trying to renew J2 visa in Nigeria via drop box while you are still in the USA . Pick your Nigerian P and come home , you don't need any visa for that. The main J1 visa holder can't even renew the J1 visa from Nigeria not to talk of J2. You are late my friend .
Best Wishes 🙏 You’re an irritant peasant. Why spew so much nonsense all the time for shit you know nothing about. She asked a simple questions do you’re here ranting like a racoon. |

Infiniteloop001: I’ve been working as a software dev for over 4years. Infact I’ve never worked a day as a petroleum engineer after graduation. Getting a computer science degree is what actually just makes sense for me since I want to continue in that line your experience is good and I see that. But most schools would rather offer you MS Informarion Systems. I will advise you to check East Tennessee State University for MS Information Systems |

Infiniteloop001: Profile: Bsc: Petroleum Engineering GPA: 4.0/5.0 GRE: 333 (V-163, Q-170, AWA-4.5) Work Experience: 4 years as a software developer Travel experience: company-sponsored trip for a tech conference in France and Germany.
Here to my story, I applied to 8 schools for computer science Msc( about 5) and software engineering (3 schools). I got 4 outright rejection which I believe was due to my background, a lot of those schools want some kind of foundation CS courses which are missing in my transcripts. I tried to write a good SOP and leverage on my work experience but I think CS is probably too competitive. The 5th school rejected me but referred me for admission in Informatjon science.
Schools I got rejections from: NYU- computer science Missouri S and T Michigan Tech Uni of Virginia
Then I got admission from 3 schools: Northeastern uni- no funding Stevens institute of tech (SIT) - 17k funding Uni of New Haven- 20% funding (amount is to like 8k) I am thinking of going ahead with SIT but the total COA is 65k ( 44k tuition and 17k living expenses, another 3k+ insurance ). I am supposed to have make the admission deposit and request for I-20 but I would like to ask if I have a good chance of getting my visa approved with a deficit of about 38k. Do you guys think I should reapply again next year and hope for better funding ( I am not so sure much would change in my profile cos I’ll still be applying for CS). I need honest advice. it would be hard to get an MS Computer Science without a computer science background. You can get MS Information Systems. Are you tired of petroleum engineering? I would advice you get a masters in same and take some comp classes. MS information Systems don’t usually have much funding. |

PrimeTEA: I’ve decided to interview together with my family : Wife and 2 kids.
Since I’ll be traveling alone first and they plan to join in January next year.
Is it okay to indicate that I’ll be traveling alone in my DS160 or indicate I have companions?? I indicate I’m traveling alone and fill for them as traveling as a group.
Should I put different date of departure in my DS160 or I should input we are leaving together same date. Please advise 🙏🏽 If you’re applying for visa for them, it means you’re indicating you’re all traveling together. |

GTAK: hello guys, so I got my visa appointment date which is August 26th but it is not favorable for me as school resumes on the 12th of August. my question is that am I to wait until the 60 days interval before I can request for an emergency schedule visa appointment, or can I request now? I am a bit confused with this and I will greatly appreciate any response from y'all. thank you. The rule is to wait 60 days. Do you want to follow the rule or want to try and see if it doesn’t matter? |

Immunity04: Hello everyone, I have an upcoming interview and I have a financial deficit. My sponsor's bank account currently has a balance that is slightly higher than the deficit. However, this amount is not his annual earnings, which are actually much higher than the balance. Now my question is, should I mention a figure that is above the amount in his account when singing the 'praises'😅 about his annual earnings, or should I stick to his current balance to be on the safe side in case the V.O demands to see the statement? That praises you want to sing is what will land you an easy denial. A lot of you get straight denial because you can’t just follow an interview question and answer. You want to be loquacious and get distracted. VO: Who is sponsoring you. Answer: My uncle will be sponsoring me, he is the e manager of Dangote company and he has a gas station and 3 hotels lol. You will be denied. Believe me, you will be denied. VO: Who is sponsoring you? Answer: I have a graduate assistantship that covers 90% of my tuition, and my uncle will be covering the deficit. (Doesn’t this sound more sensible) But you want to brag lol. You will be denied. Calm your tip down. Unless they ask you? What does your uncle/dad/mum/aunty do? Before you share what they do. Wait for them to ask you what your uncle/dad/mum earns before you start ranting the billions that they do not you want to lie about |

Phraser: Thanks for the response. It's not a cooked-up story: I have someone—a U.S. citizen affiliated with my company—who will be giving me room and board.
And my company is supporting me financially.
If I understand you correctly, I simply need to present bank statements from my two sources of funding, that is from my company and the U.S. citizen? Like I said, the story you’re cooking will land you a denial. Telling them you are staying with a U.S. citizen uncle who is affiliated with your company is some dead story. If I am correct, you’re going for a graduate certificate program? I am yet to see a masters program for 9 months. I might be wrong. You are already playing some stories that will jeopardize the little chance you have. |

Ghideourn: I wanted to take a moment to express my gratitude to everyone who has contributed to my journey towards obtaining my U.S. visa. The knowledge I gained from various sources, including here, has been invaluable in preparing for my application.
Last November, I successfully completed my interview and was granted a B1/B2 visa. Today marks 60 days since I arrived in the United States, and I am incredibly thankful for this opportunity.
I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the moderators and individuals who generously share their knowledge, both at home in Nigeria and abroad. You are the true frontliners in our quest for information and support.
In light of my positive experience, I am eager to pay it forward by offering assistance and answering questions about the visa application process, from preparation to the interview stage. Feel free to reach out by quoting or replying me, and I’ll do my best to help! So you don’t want to return back to your Nigeria? Don’t violate that visa terms. |

My question, is Western Union Quick Pay available online?

PrimeTEA: Going for Fully Funded PHD…
Is it a PLUS to mention to the VO that I have a paper in pipeline awaiting publication in conjunction with my Prospective PI?? Or it’s a red flag??
Please I need an informed opinion on this please 🙏🏽 Make person no go do oversabi. Go to your interview answering questions that you are asked. Don’t be desperate. You have a fully funded PhD. The visa officer will be in possession of your I-20 and can see that information even in your DS-160. You can chip in the response of your intended research when you’re asked about why you chose the course or why you want a PhD. Look for a better way in those question where it helps your case. Dont sound desperate. Don’t appear desperate |
Travel › Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 17 by fearlessfang: 11:06pm On Apr 23, 2024 |
Phraser: Good evening. I need clarification on an issue.
I got good funding, but my I-20 says I have a deficit of about $36,000. About $24,000 out of that $36,000 is for rent and food (the I-20 is based on the school's estimation; in reality I don't need that much for rent and food).
I have someone in the U.S. (not a relative but my long-time mentor and an associate of my employer) who will let me stay in their apartment for free and give me food, and I will be telling the embassy this.
My question: Do I need to show the embassy the bank account statement of the person providing me room and board? Or is it enough to show them a recent copy of the utility bill of the house I'll be living in?
Note: To get the I-20, all I showed the school was a copy of the utility bill.
I would appreciate your response. Like u said no one is going to ask you where you’re going to stay or not. Every I-20 includes living expenses/ health insurance on I-20. A bank statement showing you can cover those deficit is enough. You see those stories you’re cooking up there will get you a denial. Like I said, a bank statement that shows that you can pay the deficit over the period of your stay is enough. Infact that is what you should do. Do not present documents except you’re asked to present documents. Presenting documents when you are not might come off, even to me as a sign of desperation. Focus on convincing the VO that you’re a genuine student who is coming to study and leaving after studies |

aremuforlife: Thanks for this reply Yes he is a citizen, and it was stated on the written visiting letter that his American passport is available for verification. This is my 3rd year in my present place of work. Although it is a permanent job. I dont have any travel history Take it from me that none of those documents will be demanded from you. On a rare occasion do they need that. Focus more on how you can verbally prove to them that you are going to visit your uncle and would return after the visit. Even if you like bring truck load filled with documents, none might be asked for. |
