Awesome Show, YetRihanna did not get paid for her Super Bowl performance
Sunday’s Super Bowl brought in around 113 million viewers who also took in Rihanna’s high-flying halftime show performance — but the “Umbrella” star wasn’t paid for her appearance.
“We do not pay the artists,” NFL spokesperson Joanna Hunter told Forbes in 2016. “We cover expenses and production costs.”
NFL’s vice president of communications Brian McCarthy clarified to Newsweek last year that headliners do get union scale, which is paid to the union then distributed to artists.
“There is not an appearance fee, but the artists are indeed paid union scale,” he said.
SAG-AFTRA, the union representing most performers might require a minimum of around $1,000 a day for a high-budget show like the Super Bowl, which would be a pittance to Rihanna who is worth around $1.4 billion, according to Newsweek.
Still, the show is a win-win for the NFL and the headliner, as record sales tend to skyrocket following such a high-profile performance.
Lady Gaga’s sales increased 1,000% after her 2017 show, Forbes reported.
While the NFL forks over a reported excess of $1 million for production costs, some artists have started reaching into their own pockets to make sure their show is exactly the way they want it.
Both The Weeknd and Dr. Dre spent around $7 million of their own money on their Super Bowls shows, Forbes reported.
“I get involved with every aspect of anything that I do,” Rihanna said at a press conference before the show last week. “Whether it’s the Super Bowl, whether it’s a makeup product, whether it’s Savage lingerie… I want to see the copy on the website. I want to name every lipstick that I make. If it flops or it flies, my name has to stand by that.”
Fox Business reached out to a rep for Rihanna to find out if she paid any of her own production costs.
Rihanna sang hits like “We Found Love,” “Only Girl (In the World)” and “Rude Boy” in a red jumpsuit that revealed her baby bump for the first time while being raised and lowered on a platform along with dozens of backup dancers during her show.

Archeologist Says A New Ocean Is Been Formed To Split Africa In Half
A new ocean is being formed in Africa. Geologists have confirmed that a new ocean is being created as the African continent is split in half. An international effort has revealed that a 35 miles long rift appeared in the Ethiopian deserts of the Far region in 2005 and is probably the start of a brand-new sea.
The recent study, published in the journal Geophysical Research Letters, combines seismic data from the rift formation to demonstrate that it is driven by processes similar to those at the ocean’s bottom. The tectonic plates of Africa and Arabia collide in the desert and have been gradually separating for about 30 million years. The same motion has also split the Red Sea, but this is only happening at a rate of a fraction of an inch per year.
Soon humanity might have two motherlands. Africa’s 54 nations are being divided according to geologists researching the continent’s plate tectonics. The East African Rift, which separates eastern coastal countries like Kenya and Tanzania from most of the continent, passes across Mozambique from the Afar area of northern Ethiopia.
A new study in the journal Nature found that the two pieces of land are separating at a rate of 7 millimeters per year. Nations like Zambia and Uganda will have their own coastlines. Scientists claim that several currently active volcanoes along the river, including the Aloo Dalapila in Ethiopia and the Old wenyolangai in Tanzania, provide new insights into the process. Shettima Says Northerners Should Reject Atiku For Opposing Sharia Rule In Nigeria

All Progressives Congress vice presidential candidate Kashim Shettima says northerners should ditch Atiku Abubakar for his opposition to the enactment of Sharia rule across the region.
Addressing party faithful at an APC local government conference in Abuja on Friday (February 10), Mr Shettima urged the northern voters to reject Mr Abubakar at the February 25 polls because he fought against the Islamic legal system in the North, Peoples Gazette reports.
“This person you call your own says you should not call him ‘Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, but rather Atiku Abubakar’,” Mr Shettima told his audience in the Hausa language. “Your person says he is the only person that fights against Sharia in the north. Is that your person?”
The APC vice presidential candidate’s remarks is his latest attempt to whip up ethno-religious rhetoric against the Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate.
Peoples Gazette had recently reported how Mr Shettima, at Emir Palace in Daura, Katsina, publicly challenged Mr Abubakar to come out and mention eight people he has mentored in the North; or the capital projects he executed in the North while he served as Nigeria’s vice president between 1999 to 2007.
Mr Shettima told his audience that Mr Abubakar’s presidency would not serve the North’s ethno-religious interests.

The Lagos State Police Command has launched a manhunt for the driver of Luyol Secondary School, Iju, Jacob Fatokin, for allegedly killing a father, Fredrick Olorunfemi, who accused him of sexually molesting his daughter while driving her home.

A pastor of the Dominion Centre International, Frank Onwumere has petitioned the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria over the alleged misappropriation of N2 billion given to religious leaders by Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
According to the petition, the money was given to religious leaders by the Labour Party to help mobilise and convince their congregation to vote massively for the candidacy of Obi.
Onwumere alleged that the money can no longer be traced.

Honda car owners with older models advised to park until ‘dangerous’ air bags are replaced
Owners of approximately 8,200 older Honda vehicles with Takata airbag inflators are being urged not to drive until the parts are replaced.
On Friday, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration issued a “Do Not Drive” advisory for many 2001 through 2003 Hondas after the Takata inflators proved to have a 50% chance of exploding and hurling shrapnel in a crash.
NHTSA said the risk to drivers and passengers is “dire” because if the inflators blow apart, the flying shrapnel could cause serious injuries or death.
Vehicles affected include the 2001 and 2002 Honda Accord and Civic, the 2002 Honda CR-V and Odyssey SUVs, the 2003 Honda Pilot, the 2002 and 2003 Acura 3.2 TL and the 2003 Acura 3.2 CL.
The safety agency said the Honda and Acura vehicles were recalled in the past, but records show that repairs have not been made in all affected vehicles – though Honda has replaced 99% of the dangerous inflators.

Apc Paid Us N1000 To Vote Buhari In 2019; Now It’s N2000 For Tinubu – Sokoto Resident
Mallam Ango, a resident of Wamakko Local Government, Sokoto State, has alleged that political actors in his community promised all residents N2,000 if they voted for the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu.
Ango claimed that it was a usual practice in his community for people to demand money before voting in any of the general elections.
He claimed they were promised N2000 per head to vote for Tinubu, an increase from the N1000 they were promised to vote for Buhari during the 2019 general elections.
He said the increment could be due to the competition the APC now faced in the state from the Peoples Democratic Party.
Ango’s claim represents the stories of several vote buying exercises which characterised the Nigerian electioneering period.
Meanwhile, the Director General of the Atiku/Okowa Presidential Campaign Organization (APCO), Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State had also alleged that the APC was amassing money to buy people’s votes ahead of next month’s elections.
Though his party, PDP, is also notorious for inducing voters with money during elections as seen in the last Ekiti and Osun states governorship elections, Tambuwal rubbed the allegations of vote-buying on the APC in January in the Binji local government area of Sokoto State while he was on the third leg of a statewide campaign on behalf of the PDP.

Governor Samuel Ortom has alleged that he is being targeted to be killed by those he described as a group of Fulani elites.

The governor specifically mentioned the former Emir of Kano, Lamido Sanusi as one of those who levelled all manners of accusations against him in an attempt to set him up for hatred, vilification and attacks.

He said, “My attention was drawn to a write-up signed by 52 personalities of Fulani extraction led by the deposed Emir of Kano, Lamido Sanusi in form of a letter to Mr President in which the group leveled all manner of accusations against me in a desperate attempt to set me up for hatred, vilification and attacks. The group which refused to give itself a name, accused me of being responsible for the recent killing of some pastoralists at Akwanaja, Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State via a bomb attack.

“They tried to link the Benue State Livestock Guards with the killings, claiming that the pastoralists were bombed on their way from Benue to Nasarawa after they had retrieved their cattle. The group maliciously accused me of carrying out genocide against pastoralists. The dethroned Emir Sanusi did not stop at that. He made a video in Hausa in which he maligned me and called on all Fulanis to consider me as their enemy while urging those in Benue State to vote against me during the coming elections.

“I consider these allegations and blackmail targeted at my person and the Government of Benue State as part of a grand conspiracy by enemies of the state to eliminate me. Since 2017 when we enacted the Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law, I have escaped seven assassination attempts.

Acoalition of political parties under the aegis of the Coalition of United Political Party (CUPP), has disowned a petition sent to President Muham­madu Buhari against the sen­atorial candidate of the Peo­ples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kogi State, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.Recall it was earlier widely reported that the group had sent a petition to President Buhari asking him to investigate certain politicians in Kogi State over an alleged attempt to disrupt the coming elections.

In the petition signed by no fewer than 15 leaders of the group, the group had urged the President to use his constitutional powers as the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces to ensure that erring politicians were brought to book.

However, Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, the CUPP spokesman in a statement released on Wednesday said the agents of Kogi State All Progressives Congress (APC) were desperate to tarnish the reputation of Kogi Central Senatorial Candidate, Akpoti-Uduaghan.

He claimed the circulated petition was not from the coalition and urged the public to ignore it.

He said, “The attention of the spokesman of the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has been drawn to a letter purportedly written by the Coalition to President Muhammadu Buhari against Barrister Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan wherein claims were made that she imported Niger Delta militants to Okene during a rally which she organised. I wish to dissociate myself and the leadership of the CUPP from the said letter which was not authored or signed by my humble self or the Secretary of the Coalition High Chief Peter Ameh.

“Agents of APC desperate to tarnish the reputation of Mrs Akpoti-Uduaghan having seen that the people of Kogi Central have endorsed her as the next person to represent them as Senator in the National Assembly, should desist from doing anything to undermine her legitimate quest.”

The opposition coalition also called on Akpoti-Uduaghan to go about her campaign and ignore the shenanigans of her opponents who were already staring defeat in the face and not allow her focus to be shifted from the ball.

The Edo State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akoria Obehi, who disclosed this while briefing journalists in Benin City, said the state also recorded two new deaths from the disease, raising the fatality figure 16.
