If I don't have contents in my freezer that needs to stay iced up, i'ld power down my inverter, manually disconnect grid, leave my battery and solar side connected.

Reason: SAFETY FIRST. It's never a wise idea to live energized equipment unattended to, especially for long periods of time.

The grid connection was an oversight.

I intended to disconnect.

This isn't my first time traveling and leaving the stuff connected.

I don't know if it makes a difference but my house is next to an AEDc transformer.

And I know they do proper earthing for those things.

One of the transformer earth rods in my compound.

I'll seek advice if I can link my own earthing to that one.

Please get an earth resistance tester and confirm the earthing. It should have a resistance of less than 10 ohms or if it is very good 5 ohms. We found that one of our installations had a resistance of 15 ohms and we had to use four earth rods and bentonite to resolve this.

One earth rod.

The panels are next to the house but not on the roof.

What I have noticed is that anything that happens to any electrical circuit whether mains side or PV side the RCCB trips off.

I traveled for 3 weeks.

I just returned.

I left my inverters hooked to my solar panels.

One was connected to utility power.

The other inverter was not connected.

I reduced the loads such that even if the sun was not generating enough PV power the batteries would not run out.

Would you have done what I had done or would you have powered down your unit or units?

I came back to meet everything as I left them.

I'd love your responses with reasons.

And by the way the panels are earthed and every earth is connected to or bonded to each other to be safe.

I received my 3 units of Felicity 25KW yesterday, I intend to replace my 4 Units of Felicity 15KW and use them to redeploy my redundant 16KW Deye Inverter.

I noticed some differences between these units I got and the 25KW sold in Alaba and I contacted Felicity Engineers in China straight off.

They have revealed some important points about both models. They also sent the UN38.3 of one of the Pack, waiting for the second one.

I agree with you on this, it is what am trying to explain to them, but in my case I think the lightning came through the panel it killed my inverter and controller what surprises me was that my Felicity controller has already gone to sleep, it was not even on but it still got hit by the lightning, though they were still able to fix the controller, na only the inverter require change of board

Did you earth your panels?

Just asking because during my initial install the installer didn't.

I did it myself after the fact.

When I asked, he said it wasn't necessary.

But I knew better and had to sort it out myself.

It's about the Voltage bros. 133v X 2.2a = 292.6W

Once it tries to draw energy from the PV at the voltage of 133V, there will be a drop of like 5-10% drop in voltage and that will almost drop below the startup voltage 120V.
So the inverter will ignore the PVs and wait for the voltage to rise (what you noticed when it suddenly started working is that the sun intensity increased at a good temperature) so your inverter managed to draw energy without loosing voltage below threshold.

TO RESOLVE THIS: Add 1 or 2 more panels to your string and you should be good to go.

Or use an external charge controller with a compatible voltage I guess.

Cause that is what I did, if he isn't willing to get more panels at the moment.

Found a naked wire (mice or man attack?) This seems to have resolved the issue and all seems to have returned to normal for now

Yes sir. With low watt appliances, it takes it to morning but as battery gets weaker, it goes off or gets too low but a few hours of electricity at night makes it last longer.

I don't believe the savings would be 20 to 30% in electricity bills. More like 70 to 80% because most of the laundry and pumping etc would be done during the day according to the earlier poster.

Only few hours of electricity at night is sufficient to boost it.

From the poster above, lithium battery is still the best even though it's very expensive.

I plan 2 upgrades in the short term and one in the long term.

From AGM to lithium batteries. That means I can deplete below 50%.

The second upgrade is overpanelling. So that as at 6pm or thereabouts when the sun disappears, I will still have full batteries.

Finally, I will get more solar panels and a higher capacity inverter and batteries so that any load including ACs and water pumps and cookers can be used be it day or night and also should there be bad weather, I will still have 7 days of autonomy (days I can last even if the sun is not able to regenerate my batteries) left.

But this will be very expensive so that is why is a long term and not an immediate upgrade.

At the current rate of utility power, it doesn't make sense not to have solar power.

You will recover the expenses even sooner especially if you run high wattage appliances and you don't try to cheat the system.

Just assume the inverter is your generator set. Do you think 3.5 kva generator can power a pumping machine or electric iron conveniently.
You may need to increase the solar panel and inverter capacity to do so.
Your 1200 watt panels won't charge 4 batteries efficiently. It would still be at the same level of the 2 batteries or 3 batteries distributed in 4 batteries. I use similar set up as yours but 2080 watts panels. It's really the panels that supply the main power and the higher the capacity, the more the capacity of the inverter at the appropriate kva.

I pump water with my own inverter.

It is a 3.5

I also use it to iron.

I have not done both at the same time.

I even use it to run a 2200 watt photocopier and printer.

And to run a electric oven.

I do this mostly during sunlight hours.

If you want a longer runtime add more batteries.

Otherwise you will reduce or economize usage from 4pm when the sun goes down, if you want to be totally off grid or you can supplement with a few hours of utility charging if you still want to run all your loads till morning.

Chai! How can I confirm the earth is functional? I re-earthed my house about a decade ago when I noticed some appliances were shocking. The culprit at that time was a bridge between neutral and earth in one of the sockets. I used the opportunity to install a more robust earthing wiring to easily allow me connect more equipment in a DIY manner without having to call an electrician.

Maybe you have a case of degraded wiring.

Or you have a case of water ingress into the wiring.

It seems you don't have an RCCB.

Cause when I had such, and had a case of water ingress whenever the freezer was on, it will turn off the electricity for the whole house.

I knew that there problem was the freezer because if the freezer was off, no tripping. Once I dried the water everything went back to being ok.

Bring out the circuit board of the freezer if possible or alternatively use an external light source and bend down to inspect.

Another thing, are you sure rats or mice didn't compromise the wiring when you traveled?

Hi everyone, thanks for your input. I did visit Jos like I planned. Here's the cost implications and summary of my trip:
- Boarded a minivan at Nyanya park at 1300hrs for ₦6,000.
- Arrived Jos at 1800hrs.
- Keke to final destination around State low cost was around ₦250
- Hotel cost was about ₦15,000 for two nights.
- Later at night, I went out to buy food at a QSR close by. For me, it was really cold that night, the locals said December period is much more brutal. Warm clothing is quite expensive in Jos, I'd advise you purchase your warm clothing wherever you're coming from.
- Spent most of my time indoors, hell, the electricity was almost 24hrs.
- Left Jos at 0900hrs on Sunday, same ₦6000 park to Abuja in a Ford minivan.
Total cost implications: ₦50,000 or more.

Let's assume way billing is #200,000

Crating is #4,480 per 2 panels so for 27 panels there are approximately 14 pairs

4,480 x 14 = #62,720

Total cost for the 27 Canadian panels from Techland = #4,937,625 + #200,000 + #62,720 = #5,200,345

625w Jinko panel from fouani is #184,800

This means I'm buying 1 Jinko watt at 184800/625 = #295.68kobo

But for the Canadian panels the total watts I got is 665w x 27pieces = 17955 watts and you recall I spent #5,200,345 total to get them

This means I'm getting 1 Canadian watt at
5200345/17955 = #289.63kobo

Canadian panels is saving me #295.68 - #289.63 = #6.05 per watt

If I must get the exact same wattage from fouani's Jinko I'll be spending #295.68 per watt x 17955watts = #5,308,934.40

But I got same watts at Canadian for #5,200,345 which means Canada saved me #5,308,934.40 - #5,200,345 = #108,589.40 despite the additional crating and shipping fees.

So you see... Even with fouani's free shipping, Canada still stands tall

My brother in watts/calculations, I had to do a similar calcution before deciding to buy panels from one vendor instead of the other.

I will second this.

Those I have used leave the cleaning to the client.

They have never cleaned up after themselves.

It is not that easy to clean after they are done.

Tiling after eliminates the need to clean except for the little that might have smudged the walls

4 cells, you can even use those Smaller LFP 30AH cells, that allow up to 8C discharge
and get a BMS that can handle ~300A surge.

I bought grade B 100AH Sinopoly lithium cells in China 4 years ago for this. Battery still in use for such practice till today. Crazy thing I'm using it without BMS.

I wanted a 4 battery pack that I can use to jumpstart the car and if I am very adventurous, I can use it instead of the LA battery in my car.

I just need 4 cells and a BMS.

Hence the expression jumpstart pack

1000 watts per room would baloon the budget for the project without joy, but also the student will be charged very high per unit. And they will abuse it, Electric iron, electric cooker... Washing machine... His inverters will work extra and his battery will bleed. Currently at 60 rooms the maximum draw from the students will be 9KW (9000 watts)..,and i think he using two units of 10kva each inverter for everything. At 1000 watts per room, without surge the peak consumption will be 60KW...its not like he cannot do it o.... But e no go hostel again o... Na to call am apartments o... And u know how much apartment de charge per day. E choke. Dis one na make dem just charge phone, on light, plug laptop and sleep with fan.

I understand the thinking.

Just minimal electronics, basic comforts. Better than the terrible utility power there at the moment

But when last I was there, the power was so bad, less than 3 hours a day, late at night and very low current that I found my stay very unpleasant.

I had to find an excuse to come back to Abuja.

it depends, my friend has a private student hostel in Uyo, generator is banned, he installed solar and installed prepaid meter in every room...When we last spoke he was selling at about 200 naira per kwh.. And you can't draw more than 150 watts at once, the guy no de ever get vacant room..... But at the moment, i am discussing with another company to come and do the same for me in UNN Nsukka for a private student hostel, meanwhile the same company have given me there rate, its 100 naira from 8am to 4pm (when its sunny), and 158 naira from 4pm to 8am the next day.

150 watts is too small. It should be a minimum of 1000 watts per room.

As a person who visits Akwa Ibom frequently, I understand just how poor the power situation there is. As limited as the power he delivers is, he is a godsend to those students.

I knew how frustrating it was to be a student without electricity and I had up to 2 generators at a point, and to guarantee constant light, I sometimes never stopped the gen even to refuel (as risky as that was I will admit). I recall how after the generator would run non-stop between 3 and 5 days the sound would change, then I would have to put it off so it could rest to continue the battle later.

am telling you, its unfortunate that disneyland have there own twin 75MW solar power plant, totalling 150MW , abuja, kogi, nassarwa and niger state de share 469 MW, [ average is 117MW per state]....na only solar fit save us quickly... I have done the maths, if you are using 1kva generator, (i pass my neighbour)... With the current price of fuel, it will cost 700 naira minimum to consume 1 unit of electricity...yet some people are selling solar energy for 150 to 250 naira per unit in some estates... Pennywise if you ask me.

I agree with you, the next deal I close and get paid for, I must upgrade my capacity in PV and batteries to 12kW.

Here in Abuja, their 18 to 20 hours of electricity is no more due to sabotage.

Seriously, do people sell solar energy in estates now? And at that rate?

funny thing is that, in europe and US, people install solar to get electricity cheaper on the long run as electricity bills continue to surge, now in most cases, electricity is cheap at night(when your battery makes sense as no sunshine)...people have been programmed to use hybrids to do more tasks in the afternoon with solar power direct and manage the battery till midnight when cheap rate kick in that will last in some cases 4 to 6 hours max..in nigeria now,the next subsidy to go is electricity subsidy, the minister have already said that the plan is 3 years from now...and then nigeria will see cost reflective tarriffs...i am predicting 350 to 500 naira minimum per unit...na only HYBRID fit save person by then sha,unless you wan de run into your expensive lithium lifespan...
