I do this already with some of my arrays, I have 5 solar arrays by the way.
but I wouldn't suggest doing this for a client. You have to setUp a switch (more like a changeOver) and it could be possible forgeting something.

If not, only one RCCB/RCBO is fine at the DB where all your loads get their supply from

Inverter loads are on a seperate DB from main utility DB

Last week,I got a loss of revenue billing of 346k on my prepaid meter for a room n palour self contained in surulere from Eko electricity distribution company

They reported that the meter has an infraction called BLANK & SUPPLY.It means that the meter is visually blank and not capable of accepting token yet, supply electricity to the user.

This is totally wrong since the Meter kept on accepting token as even stated in thier letter that I recharged last on 24th July which is last month.
Unfortunately for me ,most of my token slips have faded off and as such ,getting a proof of my payments as requested by them is a challenge.

A co tenant that had a similar issue had all her proofs on her phone because she recharge from her bank App directly but unfortunately, some of her payments in the App statement where missing on the discos statement of payments which clearly confirms that not all tokens purchased from her App reflected on the discos platform which could be the result of the loss of revenue that they are billing on we the consumers

This is not a case of bypass but rather BLANK & SUPPLY which is not in any way the fault of the consumer.

They have already placed a hold on the meters of the affected consumers that we cannot buy token or recharge pending the resolution of the revenue loss.

I will appreciate your contributions on how I should handle this challenge.

Don't you buy tokens through bank transfers? if not, how do you recharge your account with EKODC?

You can print all those transaction receipts.

Don't you get token by SMS or email or are you one of those that delete messages evidencing transactions because of the mistaken belief that you might not need them again?

Going forward don't delete transaction receipts if you are one of those. Would have saved your ass.

I tracked down a wire burning smell to the electrical plug adaptor that my inverter is charged by the mains.

I then touched it, and it was hot so hot it could burn if the fingers were left there for a considerable length of time.

What is the best way to resolve this issue?

My obsession with flying can only be described as all-consuming, The Amaka.  I have a flight simulator setup based on Microsoft 2004 flight sim platform, and have logged more hours than I care to admit mastering the systems and procedures of the 737 fleet produced by PMDG, and my all time favourite, the 767-300ER from Level D, which handles like a finely tuned Ferrari, in comparison to just about all other commercial jetliners in service today.

Rather than a computer keyboard, my simulator is equipped with a flight yoke, rudder pedals and a throttle quadrant, for added realism.  For me, there are few more intense pleasures than dis-engaging the auto-pilot to hand-fly a big bird though a ferocious storm on final approach to land in a sideways crab while battling monster crosswinds, and I have logged more hours doing that than I have in just about any other recreational activity I know of, including sex.

The right seat in my simulator room is set up with helicopter controls - the collective, cyclic and anti-torque pedals, and with all the hours I have logged there, I could fly and hover a Robinson R22  helicopter blindfolded.  So yeah, I love the birds, be they big or small.

Most places I've seen MCCB used are in industrial applications where we have like 120KVA UPS and thereabouts. And also high battery bank application,eg like 24nos of 2v 1500AH batteries and the like. It's a rugged breaker for high current application.

So I learned.

The higher the output of your inverter and or solar array the more likely that an MCB may not good enough.

Hope we all know/remember and appreciate that running an inverter in the house is like running a powerhouse indoors.

We need to be extremely safety conscious lest something meant to bring comfort ends up bringing sorrow.

I recall my days as a child, I used to play with screwdrivers, and I cannot recall the number of times I got shocked from poking where I should not have been.

Installing appropriate protection devices will not only safeguard equipment but may also protect life and limb.

Dedicating a room that is always under lock and key maybe another issue especially as it seems inverters, batteries and their connections are closer to the floor than the typical electrical connections at a home

NO, I will recommend an MCCB when you want a CB between an inverter and battery or where appropriate amperage is needed.

Except you have a powerplant of several PV arrays connected, an MCB of 125A would suit for a 100A charge controller

And a max. Of 63A series for PV to charge controller


An MCB is a miniature circuit breaker while an MCCB is a molded case circuit breaker molded as like with ceramic attached is a picture too

I like to do business with those who have a command of the subject/product they are dealing on.

So I bought a new inverter and it recommended certain circuit breakers between the battery and the inverter and between the inverter and the solar panels.

I have contacted two companies that sell MCBs, I noticed that they both had the AC MCBs but did not have the DC MCBs.

That was the genesis of my original enquiry about MCBs.

By posting that request on this forum, I got some enlightening information that I will now share.

As at today if you search this entire forum for the expression MCCB you will get 2 pages of results, the majority of screen real estate you will find out is advertising.

Almost no one has told us when to use MCCB or when to use MCB.

So I did the research and I now present that research to the house.

I asked the question: Should I use MCCB or MCB between my inverter and its batteries?

Answer:

It is recommended to use a MCCB (Molded Case Circuit Breaker) between the inverter and batteries. This is because MCCBs have a higher breaking capacity than MCBs, which means they can handle higher currents without tripping. This is important because the inverter may draw a large surge current when it is first turned on, or when it is powering a heavy load.

In addition, MCCBs are typically more robust and durable than MCBs, making them better suited for demanding applications such as solar power systems.

Here is a table comparing MCCBs and MCBs (see picture 1 below):

You can try a 24v setup but with the dollar rates now rising weekly you will need to adjust your budget and move fast.

1. SRNE 24v 3.5KVA inverter with built-in MPPT 150v going for about N235,000.

2. Amaron Quanta Batteries (Two) 200ah AGM batteries going for about N220,000 each that's N440,000.

3. Yingli Solar Panels 450W ( my last quote on this was August at N110,000 each but please confirm from their offices on the current price. Lets say N880,000

4. Installation & wiring with surge protection. N100,000 (just an estimate but you can negotiate with the installer)

You are already looking at over N1.5M already. But as stated here, the quality and brand of products you choose will determine how long your setups last.

The above setup i believe should fall withing your budget and if need be you can stretch it a bit.

You should try a PCIe Gen5 NVMe M.2 SSD with blisteringly fast 12,400MB/s read and write speeds with an endurance of 1000TBW per 1TB of capacity. That gives you 2000TBW for the 2TB capacity drive, or enough to rewrite 1TB of data every single day for over five years on a compatible mainboard, thank me later.

Files and Bandwidths have grown bigger lately, after my Inverter setup I decided that I will have to do away with my 32TB WDMyCloudEX4100 NAS and 24TB HPE Proliant DL380Gen9 Server. They became too slow for my liking.
Despite having laptops like HP Omen, Lenovo ThinkPad P43s, HP AIO 24-df1270, HP ProBook 450 G8, all with minimum of 2TB NVMe SSD, I still find it slow pulling files from my NAS and HPE Server especially media files.
So I decided It's time to go full blown SSD.

I've got a NVM in one of my 3 X260s, albeit an older generation.

I will do a hardware refresh during the upcoming Black Friday and Amazon Prime Day 2 ( my preferred shopping time unless it is an emergency purchase).

Unlike you after bad experiences with Toshiba and HP.

I decided to stick to Lenovo's business line of laptops since they were renowed for their longevity.

I have also used Sony VAIOs, still have 2 left that still turn on.

They have become too slow but the motherboards have never given out on me.

With the Toshiba, my brother and I bought at the same time, they both went bad literally a week apart (planned obsolescence).

Got the Lenovos before I got my inverter because of the ability of the battery to last 18 - 20 hours per charge.

Now that I have uninterrupted power, I think I should plan a hardware refresh.

it may still be working but not booting. this also happened to me once years ago when i updated a hard disk [manufacturers website] and it stopped booting and could not be used as a boot drive again .

It is booting.

Just not in the original laptop (x240), in a near identical laptop (X250).

i have found that i should just stick to Samsung SSDs. a few years back i migrated my kids to SSDs and i bought a cheap drive. [silicon power] one fine day, my sons laptop just stopped working. the drive was fried. making a whining noise. order of quality seems to be samsung , crucial western digital/intel.
