Meaningless. They are getting desperate. This order can only be enforced on US companies and individuals. Europe and the rest of the world can still trade with Russia using the dollar if they wish. Russia can also insist on the Euro for all payments from Europe which it has already started for certain items.

You have already cut trade relations with the country which in the first place was not a major trade partner now this. Next he will sign an executive order banning anyone from Saying the name Russia. Laughs and walks out of thread

Thank you for the commendation.
I always hated inverter ACs but after your posts, I am getting a 2HP Panasonic inverter AC with copper coils.

My first AC was a Panasonic, the experience was out of this world.

My second AC was an LG, the Panasonic was better.

My third will be a Panasonic and going forward, I will stick to Panasonic.

On this POP issue. I’ll never use it again and will choose ready made gypsum boards.

1) Easier for repairs. For me.

2) Cleaner to install.

3) Regimented thickness throughout.

Only caveat is to watch out for potentially tainted Chinese ones.
Very valid observations.

I just wanted to spark discussions; I was brought up to ask the question: Why this? Why that? Hence the multiple questions about the process and product.

I have given a client of mine a “A Lifetime Guarantee” although we didn't have it on paper, But the client (Who has witnessed such situation of a falling Pop before) has not called me regarding any issues in two years. Now.

There are cases where POP fall to the ground completely causing serious accident if anyone is there at the moment.

Currently I'd give anyone a 10 years maintenance Guarantee (Maintenance: Repainting / Screeding)
& A Lifetime guarantee on the structural Part: it would never fall, except the client decides to destroy it.

If your house is experiencing serious structural building Problems, it would definitely affect your POP / Gypsum board.
thanks for responding, at first I was worried that despite all the POP adverts, no one was stepping forward to address potential client questions.

Your answers have set you apart and I believe potential clients are taking note and your business will feel the impact.

Your guarantees are good enough for me to strongly consider POP with you as the installer.

There has been a slight increase in the cost of electricity.

1,000 used to get 18 Kwh, it now fetches 16.5. What's your experience

Time to seriously consider investing on alternative power sources

Egun.mogaji said his perimeter lighting is entirely independent of the power utility company.

Time to seriously consider smart homes that give you the power to automatically turn on and off lights, I have seen one that automatically turns on the lighting if the home is occupied and turns the power off if the room is no longer occupied.

Time to get energy saving bulbs and to consider if you really need those high wattage lights.

Time to buy energy efficient devices and dispose of the old less efficient ones

Or if you prefer to make more money so all of the above does not matter to you

OK, I get
I spent some time researching POP ceilings yesterday.

I think many of the vendors do not educate their clients on this. POP hates moisture. In short moisture ruins it. So, it must not be installed where there is a lot of moisture which is why it is not done outside - I don't know if it can be installed in the kitchen or bathroom though. It is also why you must have a non-leaking roof.

If you have a leaking roof, you are in effect wasting money if you install a POP ceiling without fixing that first.

One of the sources I consulted had this to say, please see the image attached

Very good observations, I have not seen anyone complain of his/her pop though....
But they people have said something happened and it had to be redone.....

Issue is what made it fail requiring it to be redone? And whose fault that it failed? E.g., the guy whose question made me raise these issues

pls what causes pop to crack
This raises the question. When these guys install POP ceilings do they give guarantees like this will last 5 years before needing any maintenance at all or major maintenance?

I feel it's unfair to commit so much funds to something that looks aesthetically appealing but whose lifespan is unknown.

How then do we calculate ROI on the investment?

Of course things like water damage from a bad roof cannot be their fault, but what sort of guarantees if any are given?

Is the guarantee on paper? And will they stand by their work or is it a one off deal and the client will deal with the aftermaths of any wrongs done by the installer alone?

Continuous process improvement

Sanding walls pre-painting like the pros

As I prepare to ensure best practice is followed on my property, I stumbled on this.

To my mind the wide diameter means he covers a lot of ground at the same time. and since it has a long attachment he can reach almost anywhere.

What does your painter use when he prepares the wall for painting?

This guy's video on painting has been viewed almost 8m times, that does count for something I believe.

The video also has over 7,000 comments

One of the rules my father taught me was leave a place as good as or better than you found it and not worse.

Anyone artisan who does not practice this does not deserve your money!

I ran some searches on the issue of cleaning up and who should or should do it and what the law says.

Sharing so we all - clients and vendors can follow best practice

My thoughts, if you met the place clean and leave it a mess, you have issues

Why not include post-work cleanup as a a line item in your proposal

Why not use this as a differentiator? Which car repair man would you rather do business? the one who puts all sorts of oil/soot stains on your clean car requiring you to go the car wash post repair or the one that uses those car covers to ensure that your car leaves his workshop the way it came?

Clients, make this a requirement for awarding the contract and things will change!

This is very practicable. This approach is what we adopt here in the UK for ceiling solution. At this stage after installing, we will now joint the board lines with a jointing tape to prevent cracking and then apply Multi Finish for a smooth clean finished. (See attached photos).

What material will you now apply for a smooth finish? POP? Will you joint the board lines?
Thanks for sharing this.

The pressure to modernize by going the POP route is enormous in Nigeria.

If you don't have POP, you are dated.

Thanks for sharing UK best practice. I think I will go the gypsum board and cornice way and not the POP route.

Is there a POP craze over there? Apart from these boards what alternative ceiling solutions are in use in the UK?

Smart. This is a general problem with workmen in Nigeria.

I think to force a chance we clients must insist that cleaning up forms part of the contract.

Alternatively, no balance until cleanup or if the owner cleans up, the balance will be forfeited.

This is exactly what they told me too but I don't know how true it is. Therefore, we must question the process. They said the surface must be rough plastered before tiles for proper adherence, being that block surfaces are relatively smooth. They could be speaking from experience or long held tradition of doing things. However, in research there are basically 3 knowledge areas to consider before any knowledge could be acceptable to be translated into practice; experience of the professional, best practice from reviewed sources and actual works (trails) that have performed under replicable condition.

In this case, it appears 2 out of the 3 translational criteria could be said to have been fulfilled. The third is missing. And this is a critical aspect The Bricklayer's experience and actual works done part is fulfilled. Therefore, additional information is needed from reviewed sources to draw conclusion on whether the practice is backed by informed knowledge, rather than tradition.

This is when you need people with PhD in Material Science. They conduct the research, and the work is peer reviewed and then published for translation into practice. This is to ensure effective and quality service delivery aimed at guiding standards, reducing cost and material waste.

Any answer you would get here now is going be one of those "na so we dey do am, e go work"

Why do you need an advanced degree in your field, this is it
why do you need to attend seminars in your profession. this is it
why do you need to invest in educational materials, eg online library subscription and your professional body magazines. this is it
Why do you need to join a professional body, this is it

I found this research article on the topic - Adhesion of ceramic tile block coating system on concrete wall by Camacho et al., (2020). https://doi.org/10.1016/j.conbuildmat.2020.118278.
The work in this article is very extensive. It looks into 4 events - tiles detachment, plaster detachment, wall rapture and noise emission

It is not an open source article, Therefore, can only be accessed through your library or purchased online.
To go school good.

I started following you yesterday.

You drop a lot of sensible nuggets.

This is certainly one of them and which is why I told our artisans who aim for the top of their professions to join the trade body for their profession in the US, that's the very least they can do to stay on the cutting edge of whatever it is that they do.

I am not saying don't join the Nigerian association but as far as I know they don't invest in knowledge and new knowledge like their US counterparts.

Thanks for sharing

I noticed the norm is for bricklayers to plaster walls giving it a rough surface before tiling is done.

Tilers also put a mixture of cement and sand on the same wall to serve as adhesive for the tiles which is expected.

Can't wall tiles be done on blocks without first plastering them.
Why this? Why that?

Questioning the process is the best way of improving the process.

So what was the point of the plastering when it won't be visible?

I'm interested in the answer as well
