EgunMogaji2: Personally I’ll prefer them to put it on before installation as you’ll get better coverage that way. Even if I have to hire a laborer to do it for me at extra cost.
It’s your house and your responsibility. All the trades will move on after the project and you’ll end up living with all the decisions made during the build process, good and bad.
They want your money more than your protection.
A tradesman in his early 60s said apply first, give the wood time to soak it and dry then I'll work.
Now that you have heard both sides you decide the way forward.
michlins: they didn't teach him well or probably he didn't learn how to get his target audience.
In this Nigeria where people are importing something as simple as grass for their house, you said you can't build here.
There are very wealthy individuals who will give you open check if you can deliver what they desire
I am not the person.
I am reporting what he said.
You don't just walk up to a rich man and say I can do this and he says go ahead and do it for me, you need to be introduced.
Not everyone has the connection.
He said the amount he would use to build a bungalow to American standards would build a 2 or 3 storey building, people said build it for the looks, ignore the quality and he said he would still be linked to the property and he doesn't want that.
rmx: Did about 35 to 37 I think .for 9 inch . Machine made , vibrated . With stone dust . Use 3x or other 42.5 variants for all my projects including block moulding
I have heard of blocks that nails have difficulty going through. This sounds like that kind of block.
It all depends on the budget on the one hand and the love of standards on the other hands.
These should be the kinds of houses that can live 100 years.
Someone who studied how to build houses in the US has refused to build houses in Nigeria because he doesn't want to economize like we do here, he says he wants to build houses that live "forever" and cannot be connected to a project that cannot stand the test of time.
He says our people don't want to pay for quality, so he changed professions when he came to Nigeria.

n3xt: If possible get this from a reliable audiovisual shop. Not from the “We have it” Nigerian shops.
I’d share some of the pitfalls of using full motion mount on hen I’m able to get access to the files and the things I wished I did different on that installation.
But definitely, I won’t recommend a full motion mount for a curved TV.
Amastermovic: This journey of yours is a long one, since you don't have a niche yet i will assume few below typing
Real Estate (R.E) is like other form of business which sol3 aim is making Profit , the profit is determined by how luxury the investment is projected and clique of who you know and how open you are to your target market.
Relative Examples Below. Mr A bought a plot of land around chevron for 99M and proposed a twin duplex on it, i may sell each duplex for a profit around 60% after completion..
While suji()*)mot()r may sell for around 250% because the way he projects his brand
Mr c may not see any buyer at all because people he knows may look at the investment as something over priced..
There are many branches to this investment mode as well buying land with the hope of making profits in the future this option take the Urban and Regional Planner with surveyor as friend they most likely know the future of those area if its more of residential, commercial, cemetery or acquisition..
Your Target market should never rely on civil servant because they will build gradually and get land from co operative..
Your location maybe Good for Rental Apartment kind of only but study time value of money well..
Tips: You may run into serious lost if you intend to cheat by compromising, Bad Reviews ..
Don't run unnecessary political opposition if you like your investment
Employ young minds ...
Few lucky ones should in case
If you start growing big then the real people will locate you and you front for their money, so learn to keep investor's name and profile silent because background checks are mostly carried out before invitations..
So many successful businesses in Nigeria are fronts for people who don't want to be publicly associated with such businesses, but who fund those businesses.
Please note that the method of displaying this gate with the wood behind is a serious health and safety (danger) issue to members of the public, especially children and to your customers as well. Look into this going forward with a view to securing your work space from wondering members of the public or kids running around.
You are not alone. Your profession by and large is guilty of this health and safety practice.
I don't know if they do this overseas but there are so many booby traps in the Nigerian construction trade.
Thanks for pointing this out.
It speaks to your exposure to better working environment and practices.
GloriousGbola: fullriver - from a contact mercury - always bought from coscharis
though this was like 8 years ago or so.
unfortunately it is also quite possible that staff within the companies can also be running scams. batteries do not show signs of physical wear and tear. and they have no serial numbers. so i can just swap out brand new batteries with used batteries and the customer will be none the wiser.
When I set up my system, the vendor took down the serial numbers of the batteries. That is a major faux pas that there were no serial numbers.
I need to screed some parts of my build and I am confused on the process to apply. Someone recommended screeding with POP materials and another one said I should buy screeding paint . Please which of these is the best ?
Then , I noticed many people are now using window blinds in place of curtains these days. What are the advantages of window blinds over curtains?
All I know is that pop cement when it comes into contact with water deteriorates.
So I used ordinary cement for my wall screeding.
Lots of excellent posts on the issue on this site.
To do screeding, you need screeding paint, screeding cement, some form of glue and water. So the issue now is what is your source for the screeding paint, lots of local brands and even the paint majors make screeding paint too, I believe our resident paint maestro also makes screeding paint. What you go for is a matter of budget, taste and preference.
I did notice though that with the paint majors, they say their screeding paint is ready to go, once purchased, no need to mix anything.
But when I wanted to do my screeding for my chosen brand there was no pail in Abuja so I had to go ahead without them.
I will let others answer the rest of your questions.
sonnie10: That is, if one is on ground and knows the specific sizes and quantities of materials required.
I contacted a factory, and they gave me pricing but told me I needed someone to interpret the documents they sent me.
I am mentioning this because Nigeria is a dumping ground, and some contractors will go for the cheapest material and not the best quality materials, and you will live with the consequences when they are long gone
sonnie10: Bids end soon for Aluminum glass windows for this edifice. Thanks for the quotes already received.
This is coming late.
But what are your thoughts about getting the Aluminum and glass from the factory yourself and engaging labor separately as opposed to engaging contractors to supply and install on your behalf?
I know someone who was invited to Government House, flight paid for, accomodation given at Government House Guest House for 2 weeks, but after all said and done didn't make up to 1 million from working on that short assignment.
This same guy was later given jobs worth hundreds of millions of Naira due to the relationships he fostered during that job that paid him in hundreds of thousands when when he was expecting a million or millions at most.
So manage small contracts well, cause you never know what doors contacts that give you small deals can open.
GloriousGbola: I stopped using inverters because I got tired of battery whackamole.
Too much quality variance.
I get the feeling everyone is just shaving the quality off batteries they sell.
And now we are moving to lithium where quality cutting is far more dangerous.
Off the cuff, You may get lucky if you get a schneider electric partner.
I use Schneider. I think they are pretty good.
Please which batteries did you have issues with?
I made inquiries and found out official distributors for the brand of battery in Nigeria I wanted to buy and paid for the same directly from the officially recognized resale channels.
gbadexy: You may use premium emulsion for the external and internal. They require no screeding. You may use silk, satin or matte for internal with specialised primer with film coat thickness to allow for sandpaper. You may also use matte with primer outside if you want a flat paint with a low sheen weather protected coat. Matte and satin can be cleaned although silk more than satin and satin more than matte. Silk is N40000 Satin: N35000 Matte: N27000 Premium emulsion: N15000 Workmanship depends on the size of the building. Transport is N500 on a drum. It's ideally more than that but I add up the rest. The full painting I handle which I forgot to mention is spray painting. I own the equipments and handle that fully. Otherwise I just recommend painters.
Is it true that if a wall is screeded, it uses less paint?
AsomArchitectNG: Range plastering is best, cos it helps ensure wall edges, windows edges and door edges are straight even wall surfaces ain't left out... You'll get range plastering for that price quoted above.
You'll still have to do screeding before painting if you have the financial means as range plastering is not a determinate factor not to screed your wall... Screeding helps to ensure your wall has a smooth surface
