Adamu had told State House correspondents on Thursday that the government would not pay the lecturers for the period of strike.
But reacting to the government’s position, Osodeke said, “He is joking. If they fail to pay, we will not teach those students; we won’t make up for that period. We will start a new session (2022/2023). We won’t conduct examinations; we will start a fresh session totally. ” _Lecturers are not doctors that once life is gone, it can’t be brought back. For lecturers, we can still resume where we stopped and still teach them and make up for lost time._ But for us, if they fail to pay we won’t make up for the lost time. We won’t go back to fill backlogs; the schools will start a new session, 2022/2023. Examinations and the period lost won’t be taught.” I am interested in knowing how they will make their final year students to catch up with their colleagues in private universities who had already been mobilized for NYSC |

Emmamay10: I think the best approach to this ASUU issues is to break their monopoly, by giving more recognition to CONUA. In this regard, more lecturers would move to CONUA once they are officially recognised. Another option is to privatize all Federal Universities, but with consequent increase in tuition fees. It will be impossible for all the lecturers to be sacked at once. It would have ripple effect on the education system in Nigeria. Majority of them will reapply. They have no where else to go. Then, they will be curbed under new regulations |

Education › Re: ASUU Strike: Implications Of No-Work-No-Pay For Nigerian Students by femicyrus(m): 4:08pm On Aug 19, 2022 |
sinkhole: Government 'No Work, No Pay' and Lecturers' No Pay, No Work in Arrears
Minister of Education said lecturers would not be paid their 6 months withheld salaries. It is very unfortunate that the Minister does not understand the operations of the ministry he is heading. The implications are far reaching and I will state some of them here:
1. Spilled-over students whose results are yet to get approval from Senate would not be attended to because these are academic works in arrears (2021/2022 session) that government does not want to pay for. So, no graduation.
2. Final year students who have written exams or yet to write will remain on campus because their scripts will not be marked and the outstanding semester exams will not be conducted. These are academic works in arrears (2021/2022) that government does not want to pay for.
3. For other levels (1 to 3 or to 5), each student should be ready for extra one year or semester as the case may be. If exams have been conducted for second semester, then those students have one semester more. But if results of first semester have not been released, then one extra year. This is because no academic works in arrears would be attended to because government does not want to pay to them.
4. As long as final year students are not graduated, no new intakes and the ripple implication is that JAMB will continue to have backlogs of students waiting to be admitted.
4. The summary of this is that all 2021/2022 session academic works in arrears will not be attended to because they are all works in arrears that government want lecturers to do without without being paid for.
So, it is very unreasonable for government to state that lecturers will not be paid withheld salaries. Lecturers job is not like any ministry job. Adamu Adamu need to get that into his skull.
For parents, stakeholders and students, one does not need to explain further the implications of all this. So, it appears that government is winning the battles but not the war.
©Osuala, U.S. This is not tenable. ASUU were paid for work done up till they went on strike and payment must continue from there when they resume. Which backlog are they talking about? You mean ASUU were just collecting salary for doing nothing thereby accumulating work undone? Did they work during strike or the system was running in their absence thereby leaving behind a backlog? Start work from where you stopped! What is so difficult in that? If exam/lectures/marking is ongoing before strike then continue when you resume |

ASUU finds it convenient to cripple the economy of the university community for 6 months yet wants to get paid for not working.
Who will pay back the business centers where photocopy and printing of documents are made, food vendors, artisans, traders etc that depends on patronage from students who are now in serious debt and hardship because of ASUU's insensitivity? |

abfelicity91: You all blaming ASUU. Have the government ever do you and your family any good that you can boost of? All man for himself as one singer said in his song. The government steals from you, they don't care about you. All they care about is their family and their selfish needs. Just as the op said, there are so many graduates with good grades but yet unemployed or squeezing themselves on a peanut in income. Now ASUU joined the trend and you guys behaving as if it's a new thing ASUU knew that only the children of the poor attends FG universities, yet decided to inflict more pains on the poor because ASUU should be earning millions like politicians Do you know how much parents had paid to landlords for the section that ASUU had wasted? You want to collect salary of 6 months you did not work for? Who pays back the students 6 month house rent wasted for nothing? |

Privatepart00: Still making same mistake again, ASUU isn’t the only union that makes a university to function. There’s NAAT for technologists , NASU - Non academic staff union and SSANU - Senior staff association of Nigeria Universities. All the four unions must work together before the university can function. All the unions in FG-Universities are on strike at the same time , FG only choose to give more relevance to ASUU. If is possible to replace all workers in the university they would have done so. The billions former AGF stole where is it? Has he not been granted bail to enjoy his loot. That is because ASUU is demanding to become millionaires by salary unlike politicians who are directly stealing . I don't know where on earth you've seen lecturers as millionaires when over 80% of citizens are leaving below the poverty line |

Privatepart00: What some of you write is funny at times . You want the FG to replace all staff in the Federal Universities nationwide for failure of same FG to fulfill a reached agreement ? Majority thinks ASUU only make up the university forgetting NASU, SSANU, NAAT are involved. His ultimatum is dead on arrival. The 6 months will be paid before strike is called off . Federal institute of Science and Technology is on strike which PRODA falls into , but they are been paid monthly. My friends working here were surprised when they heard FG-university workers are not paid for been on strike. Try reading up the labour laws , is not the workers business for FG failure to renege on their responsibilities. No union in the university can function properly without the others . NB: The money for those salaries are on fixed deposits, you can calculate how much they are getting from it. There’s money in this country if you allow yourself to be fooled by the FG outcry is your problem. They select what to prioritize which Education isn’t one of such. The main strike just started. What you don't know is that unemployed PhD holders are willing to accept half of the salary ASUU is currently complaining about. All Nigerian workers are equally groaning over inflation. If FG should settle ASUU, others too also deserve to go on strike to cripple the whole nation just like ASUU had crippled the student's academic calendar which your friend at proda's strike is not affecting not to talk of Nigerians on the street. |

Acidosis: So when you resume, you expect the same ASUU to prepare your exams, lectures, and everything you've supposedly lost in the past 6 months abi?
With a "no work, no pay" principle, students who got admitted this year should lose their admissions so that ASUU can start a new academic session by September. There should be no going back to your admission, lectures, exams, supervision, and graduation. You were paid in full for job done till the point you went on strike and payment should continue from where you resume. How does that affects academic sessions already delayed for 6 months? Examinations were not conducted during strike so why won't you mark the scripts when you resume? |

What will it cause FG to declare vacancy in all FG universities with an opportunity to reform the sector?
There are more PhD holders in Nigeria that are not gainfully employed compared to all the lecturers that are currently on government's payroll who only rely on lecture notes they themselves got as postgraduate students in the university in the 80's
This is not medical line that the risk is too high.
That is the only way to clip the wings of ASUU permanently

Secondly: ASUU won't call off this strike till a full agreement is made because if they do without getting their 6 months salary not a full agreement then they will be taken for granted as well as losing out....
