Politics › Re: If Your Party Wins, How Do You Think They Should Run Nigeria? by Feraz(m): 8:44pm On Mar 11, 2015 |
bushdoc9919: Good morning Nairalanders.
It is about 3 weeks to the Presidential election....and while a lot has been said about the candidates' personal issues...existent or non existent...little has been said about their ideas on how to run the country.
If like me,you are worried about what the future would hold.....especially as oil prices have dropped over the last few months.....then I think that we should be asking both political parties about WHAT they intend to do in the face of falling revenues from oil.
If you have any ideas about how we should run our country in the face of the diminished oil pot....this thread is for you. Drop your ideas here. Should we
1.Spend more....or cut government spending?
2.Remove the fuel subsidy......or keep it?
3.Focus more on Power, rail....and less on other things?
Answers/replies/thoughts welcome. Education should be invested in... Not just our universities but also our technical schools and colleges of education, research centers should be built also. Science, Engineering and Technology should be the main focus of the incoming government (not forgetting revolutionized agriculture) |

Its share waste madness for Microsoft to produce such expensive phones with these limitation. I abadoned my Note 8 when I read pple review about Lumia phones... its just an unnessary hype...Imgine using a 48k android phone First, is it loaded with Windows Phone 8.1? If yes, download files from store. It should help you locate your downloaded files. That BBM issue, you're not the only one having it... Unseen also has the issue. I think it is a fault from the app developers and hopefully, their next update will rectify it. You can help by rating and reviewing it on Windows store. I don't know about Android but I think there's a download limit also. Well, good luck getting a phone that suits you. Lumia is not unnecessarily hyped. It's a cool phone. |

talktimi: I enjoy my phone (520) it has ALL the relevant apps and serves me very well. The problem I've noticed most people having with the windows phone platform is that they allow too many people access into determining their choices especially guys who're into "pimping" of phones. Those guys will never EVER advice you to choose windows over android because it spoils market for them. With a windows phone, you download what you actually need by yourself from the app store instead of getting a corrupted file + plenty virus from a guy man somewhere at computer village I noticed too. When I got mine, I was ridiculed by my guys but what they do not know is you take what works best for you. I have the apps that I need and I'm ok. |

Sile12: We even running to south Korea to school, greener pasture even. Honestly, I do not blame people for going over there. That country is a model for any country that wishes to transform its engineering and technology sector ditto China. We have started going to Cyprus also. Either Nigeria learns to invest wisely and transform into a city better than Dubai and Doha with the oil money; invest in Science, Engineering and Technology and become a place like China, Germany, South Korea; further agriculture like Malaysia or we leave things the way they are and become war torn like Afghanistan or Syria. |
Travel › Re: Same Place Different Year Around The World. by Feraz(m): 9:14am On Mar 11, 2015 |
October1960: Hope we can experience such positive change. China especially is to be commended. No society is perfect but the leaders have tried for their people. They truly fight corruption (several high ranking officials have been executed for stealing (GEJ))
The monies Nigeria earned to be able to develop is sitting in Swiss bank accounts and in the UK and US.
Think about it China developed without oil money! They worked hard and live a frugal life, rather than our show off blink blink lifestyle. Yeah. . . I am impressed with China. Apart from developing without oil money, they believed in themselves and where their 'fake' technology could take them and it has brought them this far that even multinationals outsource their manufacturing specs to them (especially electronics and other technology). India is towing the same path, making stuff and also investing heavily in nanotech and space technology. Had Nigeria followed this same path sometime after the civil war, I believe we will not be where we are technologically (but alas, we are still battling hurts of the war, corruption, tribalism and nepotism). Most of these countries being uploaded here tell different stories which Nigeria can benefit from and also learn of their mistakes and where those mistakes have gotten them, notice how long it took them and they were consistent. Doha - Oil money China, Singapore, Germany, Japan - human resources, science, engineering and technology (bedrock for the development of any nation - they took education serious, if given opportunity to study in Germany, I will ) Malaysia - Agriculture Afghanistan - war Sile12, I am particularly interested in South Korea (I mean, after how many years of war, that country has really transformed that they have how many multinationals and also are into ship and ocean technology) |

Most frustrating is not getting BB msg alerts live!!! Microsoft needs to upgrade this feature too. #Lumia730 For the first, I understand where you're coming from. Back then when they started, it was just 50MB that was allowable for download to they increased it to 100MB. They're still improving. Alternatively, you can slot your SIM card into another phone and tether with it. For the second, you not receiving BBM alert depends on your phone settings (you prolly turned off the toast notification on the app itself). Check your BBM settings or your notification centre settings. |

jose556: wow... When will our engineering students stop mixing dead acids and bases and start real engineering? When your government decides that Science and Engineering is the bedrock of any nation to develop, when they stop paying lip service to creating R and D centers across the nation and pump serious fund into education, when they decide to get their eyes off oil; when lecturers decide to teach things related to the modern world and not using their outdated notes, when they decide and are willing to learn from students who are updated and also make their own researches and finally, when students decide to go off social media, improve on their written and spoken English (this is to convey thoughts articulately) and dedicate at least two hours everyday to researching and think of how to become innovative in the field they are interested in by being observant (almost everyone is thinking oil oil oil). Seeing that picture breaks my heart that we are not close to the above. I mean, this is a nation that gained independence almost the same time with Nigeria (correct me if I am wrong) and see how far they have come. |

Science/Technology › Re: Humans Have Less Than 200yrs To Survive On Earth--- Stephen Hawking by Feraz(m): 7:24pm On Mar 08, 2015 |
davien: First off small bodies like asteroids are easily moved by ligh beams(in space),and once directed towards the planet, the will of the planet pulls it into itself....that's all and I have no idea what you mean by mirror... Omoshiro i (Japanese way of saying interesting)!!! The mirror is another way of terraforming. It is supposed to release the 'green gases' on the planet to aid the development of life forms faster. |
Science/Technology › Re: Humans Have Less Than 200yrs To Survive On Earth--- Stephen Hawking by Feraz(m): 7:07pm On Mar 08, 2015 |
davien: Actually it is feasible and a lot of ideas are on the ground on how.....The problem again is willingness, cooperation, funding and time... And terra-forming doesn't mean we'd make it 100% earth-like...we could start with delivering and diverting asteroids with water-ice to seed oceans and then start manipulating minerals that capture CO2(the oceans also will help in carbon sinking)...a lot is needed to be done....and it's very feasible...The problem is we think that a project should be considered "feasible" if it is done within our lifetimes and suiting our every desires and so if no funding is within it, then it's not feasible. How will that happen? How do you divert something that big to land on a planet or create a mirror (about three) the size of Asia (if not bigger) to heat the surface of the Martian planet? |

http://m.space.com/26964-nasa-mega-rocket-2018-sls-test-launch.html No boss. I am not talking about landing the human race on Mars. Heck, if they can send curiousity to Mars, then it is not far fetched to think that the technology to send man to Mars is close (I have even checked up on the technology - another type of Jet engine called scramjet that is being developed to take someone to another part of the world in about 1 hour say from Japan to London). I actually meant the technology for terraforming - that is what I meant that it is not yet feasible. Thanks for the link. |

Guy park well... Wetin consign me with fifa.. Or did you mistakenly see a white man while you were typing your reply.. You and that guy have been making me laugh since. I kinda see a Nairalander called 'Musiwa' in him. For those threatening the OP with fire and brimstone, did God do the same when Job was throwing serious questions at him while he was passing through trials and tribulations? Y'all be acting like Job's friends. Topic, since we are limited by our senses, it is possible not to see God therefore, believe that he was created by man. I believe that God cannot be created since he is the creator of all things. If he was created by some other intelligent being, then he ceases being called ' GOD'! If we believe that God is a figment of man's imagination, then how about we? Are we figments of a being's imagination? I'm enjoying the inputs from various people here. stan241: I'd give it to Sulivan Chime of Enugu the place is really beautiful and as for Anambra Peter Obi did quite well although the general consensus is that majority of the roads he claims were actually built by Ngige...now anyone who says Rochas is not doing anything in my state should go and look for the nearest transformer and hug(light no even dey) cus anyone who was in Imo during Ohakim's tenure will tell you that we Imo people did the right thing so whether he belongs to APC or APGA whether he moves with tinubu or buhari, Rochas is for Imo others are just wasting their energy...also Anambra people are so similar to the Northerners in that no matter what they always believe they are Gods gift to the Igbo race so don't even bother arguing with them Now, that is a wrong generalization. Imo and Anambra may always not agree on issues but do not put it that Anambranians reason in the above way. |

nina161: Nsibidi originated from the Ekoi/Ejagham people of Cross River state in Nigeria. It spread to parts of Igbo land from this area. Igbos should stop misintepreting history to assert themselves as a progressive tribe. Sadly, the Ekois are a minority tribe in danger of extinction. Most of them don't even know their Bantu origin or speak their language. As a result, the Igbos are yet to be corrected on this issue. I do not think anyone has attributed the origin of Nsibidi to the Igbos. At least, from the people I have discussed it with. |

davien: Hmmmm....we do need to broaden our stand in the galaxy. I mean we just live on one planet alone...which could change sporadically as it did for the dinosaurs(thus rendering them extinct) I think we could terra-form other places to suit our long term survival, but that only depends on our willingness and cooperation to do so.... For the bolded, they are there but it just remains the technology to achieve such. It is not yet feasible. . .at least, not now. |

Governments need to look for ways to raise funds, instead of depending on FG handouts.
On the topic, I am not knowledgeable enough. I see Obiano does things with a lot of fanfare. Asoebi and all, to commission projects. Obiano ke?
