Knownpal:
Overflow is a technical, programming term, which literally refers the forum as a home of sound help to all your computer problems so far you've try your best, and have no clue, unlike here, I try o I no try o, just gimme the codes. I blame the secondary schools and university because of the examination we now have the only which is to look for answers without learning how we get there. As the common adage, there're many ways that leads to market, just tell me the way and I follow, we are so afraid of missing the road and taking the stress to find the track back, this can be related to our Nigerian Programming mindset.

I don't know if this really tallies with the OP's question, but the fact am typing this is to really back up the claims of someone. It's so hard to find someone to come down so low to render help, advice and all that even as we all know that there are lots of frustrating beginners' questions (lolls).

He's a good coder and great UI designer, believe it not, there's no hyping, even if there're strings attached, I just have to call a spade a spade, sometimes when I see him in this kind of scenario back then with some people, I always say "make this man leave this people jare, it's hard to convince people till they they see".

Well yeah there're times I feel so frustrated as there're are no return calls, the worst part are days he's mobile lines are off for a long period of time. But I tell you it worth it, because I understand how busy he has always been, (a building full of 0s and 1s, whatcha expect?). At the time we initiate communication back I be wan say there're no reasons for apologies jare, so far am able to communicate back with you, but yet he still go ahead to apologize for not picking calls due one reason or the other. We never see each other even though there have been many attempts.

And back to the OP ehn, just use the mediums you have, Mr. Seun has tried his best to bring this forum to us, as you know Nigeria is still a baby in terms of technology at large, so it would be so hard for peeps to know how to solve their own problems unless they receive motivations, which depends on how they receive it. (I have a friend, he was motivated because he asked a question in one of these yankee hacking website, and a guy on the forum bashed him with some abusive words, my pal now always tryna solve his problem him self unless he has no clue).

Pardon my English.
I understand though. But I don't think it's Seun that would make it better... it's just left to the kind of humans here.... Anyway, it's not really common to just the programming section. What I noticed when I arrived Nigeria last year is that there are very few humans left in Nigeria.... the rest just look like humans lol

@OP NL and SO cannot be compared.. First off, those who ask questions on SO, have tried googling and the ones in NL don't make effort.. go look at the topics in NL programming section you will understand what I mean...
One time I asked a question most people might think it's ridiculous, but considering the circumstances, it wasn't. The question I asked was "How to fix a div to the bottom of the screen on mobile.

Normally this is simple but in my case, the stupid library I was using was the cause.... I found that out later after a full day of debugging.

The annoying thing is that very few people bothered to at least give suggestions.... but when it comes to argument, you'll see idiots claiming Ph.D, Ph.E and Ph.Z in programming cheesy

It seemed I once promised such but didnt have the time to complete it as planned at that period cos most times personal and contracted projects always have a way to cos distractions but if you were actually reffering to me then I would say I am glad I spent my time doing something else instead of programming for you.

Some of us have slight health issues that you dont even care about, what is wrong in sending a mail, some of us have our phone numbers written in our NL signature, just a minute call or text message would do to say: ."Guy hello how are you today, hope you didnt forget to help me with that task.. "

We never even spoke before and you just expect an anonymous person to do your task for you, just like that without even showing cares..

I have a very good friend in here, he calls, sends mail, text for one assistance or the other and most times I am always in the middle of one project or the other and over time he got to understand me and cares for what I do and my time, now he asks questions and I reply to him on whatsaap and I sent written codes to him once on whatsapp..

Infact the first time I got a programming job from a company out of Nigeria, I called him to know, he knew when I was even on my way to the embassy and all of that.. this is a friend from NL I never saw.

When I arrived at the said country, I got a refferal to do another job while I was in the middle of one, he was the person I called back in Nigeria to know if he could do the task..

If you want a challenge between you and I in order to prove to you that I dont just design, that I also code verrrrrrrry well, kindly mention me.

Mscheeeeeew! It is on the same programming section, I developed a full Android App and to another person a full bureau de change software and till now I got no kobo after deployment, not even one naira and I used all my resources and time for those projects, hoping they would fulfill their end of the deal..

I would not come on NL to argue with anyone as it is the norm here, back to the topic... @OP have you also noticed the numerous java, python, etc whatsapp groups and the reasons for their evolvement?
LOL, people like that (ie people that show little or no sign of care about the project) are the kind of people I HATE to help

If you understood the post well, you would get my point.

My point is, even if Nairaland had 2 X the membership of StackOverflow.... it would be more like 70% dull heads so it would only get worst. I would have said 100% dull heads, but I've met some good programmers here dat don't exhibit d irritating traits

3doursdown:
Hold up son! Hope you know Nairaland has no where near the membership numbers of stackover flow? You're comparing a toddler to an adult. Ask more Nigerian specific questions and people would be more likely to respond.

I too have tried teaching some people, but only very few really hung around to actually learn.
My general opinion is that many people just want shortcuts to programming. A dude disturbed the life out of me that he wishes to be a professional android developer - i told him to learn JAVA, for where? The gan dissappeared and never chatted with me again. I can cite so many instances, and it makes me wonder seriously. Some nairaland dudes that I have outsourced work to in the past (just because i was just so so busy) - walahi, if i should start that one - i will write like 1,000 lines of bad reports.

A few of them are good, but you see character is another thing entirely. Imagine giving a person work, and when you try to find out status of work - phone busy, phone switched off, etc

I believe that a developer's phone should be accessible 24-7 (or at least 8am to 8pm), anything short of this - I am sorry, i cannot work with you.
Mehn, that phone being switched off or the idiot not answering is a very common issue with the kind of useless programmers I've met. I almost started to thing Nigerian programmers are cursed.... LITERALLY o

It's just a simple program and not a game.... Why are you guys killing each other over UI.

If you follow the rules, you would know that most apps in a particular category can just go with the native UI of the OS. If you are designing something like a game or other complex apps then there might be need to use custom UI just like CodeHouse suggested. But CodeHouse, that UI is completely unnecessary for this kind of app

Facebook deceived people with their upgrade and took out their app then replaced it with link. I need the app. Gurus here pls how do I get it back.
My guess is you are using a BlackBerry device. If yes, FB didn't deceive you, BlackBerry actually develped that Fb client for BB. And Facebook recently blocked their API from BlackBerry devices, that's why BlackBerry had to replace the app with a link to facebook.com.

If you use a BB10 device, try Face10. It's an alternative to Facebook client and note that using this app is going against Facebook terms cause it's more like the developer hacked Fb Api

Don't you think I've done that already ? That's the first thing I did.

They used BackBoneJs RequireJs Animate, jQuery, HammerJs and Underscore. But I can't Identify any Ui Library there. I don't want to believe it was built without a Ui Library
Kodejuice:
You could just decompile the app or you rename it to a '.zip' file and locate the 'assets/www/' folder, then you see the scripts, in doing so you'll figure out the libraries used.

hahahahahah see analysis

dhtml18:
Yes it happens, believe me, i have seen things in the hangs of my fellow naija developers.

Now, let us look at the OPs situation from another angle (a rather funny one this time but based on real life facts):

1. OP wishes to do a job and SeunOsewa advises him to pay a developer 30k for the job.
2. So OP contacts FrankLampard to do the job for 30k.
3. Now FrankLampard does not understand the scope of the job, but feel that opportunity comes but once, and so collects the 30k
4. FrankLampard decides to use 10k out of the 30k to play "2-sure" and lost the money, left with a balance of 20k.
5. FrankLampard now tries to do the work and sees that the work tough no be small.
6. FrankLampard now decides to outsource all or part of the work to dhtml18 for 15k
7. dhtml18 come vex pata-pata and says he cannot do the job for less than 30k
8. So dhtml18 now contacts the OP directly (to collect the job and 30k from FrankLampard) make him do the job.

At this stage, the OP now runs to Nairaland to create this thread seeking for advice.

Disclaimer: this post is merely fiction, and any semblance to anyone on Nairaland or elsewhere is merely coincidence.

Please can anyone figure out the UI Library the latest Access Bank app uses ?

I just got this BB Android phone and for some reason, it runs Hybrid Apps poorly. Even Hybrid apps that are extra fast on my BB Passport lagged on this phone. However Access Bank app which is clearly an Hybrid app was the only app that ran normally (Smooth transitions/ Animations etc).

I need to figure out the Libraries they used.

Just go to http://paypal.com and register normally. There's nothing difficult.

After registering, connect your card. When you buy the product, it would get deducted from the bank account the card is connected to.

Apparently. going through your bank is making it more difficult for you

The story is different if you are trying to receive cash though

Not every app will be browser based. Not anytime soon. Besides,if it is going to take over the desktop,
it will have to supplant compilers/vms with something better, which happening anytime soon.
I actually agree with you. Javascript would definitely grow... But it's still going to remain in it's category
ProgrammingRe: Programming Competition: Search Engine Task. Rewards up for grabs. by FincoApps(m): 12:33pm On Mar 13, 2016

@Danielthegeek
This challenge could have been solved with a desktop program that polls NL, parses the html and presents the data. Search wise it would probably be slower but it would probably be the most original and hardest
to write: html parser, indexer, network interface, gui etc.
What if a competitor took this approach-he'd lose out. Besides such code wouldnt need a server to run!!
just download and run from a desktop with internet access.
No to me, using something like Visual Studio would be far easier. How I would have done it:
Open the page in an hidden Web browser control.
Get the Dom from the control and parse it using normal JS methods.

I used HTML because someone said it can be dont by only Magic... I've forgotten

Please throw some points to Blenyo, if you think his crawler is better. If you can't allocate separate points the way i did, just post a score over 100 and when it's 10:30pm i'd count everything and pick the winner.

What i've got to say

Currently Jidez is on top and Blenyo is in second place, I must commend Blenyo because i didn't know he'd be a major contender (I was expecting FincoApps to be the second) it was after i calculated the scores i saw Blenyo in second place, was surprised myself. Blenyo was sitting at third place till he got the 26pts for speed, he attracted the lowest negative points for code redundancy, I must say, you really did well with the coding..all variables were defined, no unnecessary functions or repetitions, but Jidez is too good to ignore, he came fully prepared and i appreciate that effort. A lesson Jidez can learn from this competition is that, apart from User Interface and material design, performance and speed should also be key. I think you and Blenyo can share some tips and tricks as you both will make a super team.

Sleeping Demon, oh my God, the Demon was not asleep at all..your crawler's speed can literally be compared to google's as i tested it from various countries (I even tested it more from a distant country's server and got a very fast ping back), but do not be carried away you could have had a spot at the top three if the crawler was really functional, it is that fast because it isn't doing much work or crawling properly, this crawler is what Asalimpo should constructively criticize. I believe you can do better.

As for ChinenYen, I think if he posts a link with the finished program, he has a chance to squeeze in between Jidez and Blenyo and take over the second spot because his code is just natural, not depending much on frameworks or external libraries. ChinenYen deserves much more credit i think, but let's wait and see if his link will come up before 10:30pm.

FincoApps, I expected you to either come up on top or be a serious head ache to other competitors, but your crawler not being functional enough and absence of some button functionality gave your seat out to Blenyo. For instance: if i search a term first, using the Nairaland option..everything works well but if i decide to swith to Stack Overflow by clicking the radio button, the preloader comes up but does not fetch data till i push the enter key. Improvements could be made on the results accuracy too, and this goes to every other competitor too..even Jidez, It can always be improved.

To those that used pre-loaders, please know that they can reduce the speed of the site and even make it very slow if it has been set to delay for some seconds. Blenyo's program did well in this aspect.

Overall i think Jidez's GUI and all round balance gave him an edge over every other program.
Thanks for the detailed review and not being biased. However, your point about my checkbox functionality is a little.... confusing. Clicking the checkbox is not supposed to execute the search. For example, when you search for something on Nairaland, on the search result page you see Topics and Images checkbox. When you click on either of them, the search does not auto start again.... you still need to type what you wanna search and click on the search Button. They are just options
