Is an atheist supposed to be afraid of charms abi how? |
I get a combined 25mpg on my 2007 honda accord EX-L. With current petrol prices that mpg feels too lazy to me. |
I love cats but I can't put in the work required to own a pet. Here's my girlfriend's cat and my cat by proxy, Money, being a nice kitty.

Lol. Also, Buddhism and Christianity are our love children. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secular_Buddhism https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christian_atheism |
100% Nigerian. I realised I was an atheist after someone described my worldview as secular humanism and I went to read up on the topic. Your friend is just clutching at straws. |
Pidggin:Religion happens to be an interesting topic for some people, atheist or otherwise, while it's not worth a passing glance for others. There are theists and atheists on nairaland who don't bother with this religion section. Taking an interest in religion should not depend on whether you believe that God exists or not. In the same vein, this belief or disbelief shouldn't be the only basis for an interest in science. Keep in mind that your christian God is also interested in religion, despite not believing in the existence of any higher power. And he is sometimes addressed as the ultimate scientist, despite not being an atheist. Atheists might also come around to comment on your opinion of them ("led astray" ) or to share their opinion of you, just as you share your opinion of them. I hope you can recognise that they are entitled to that too. |
What supernatural powers? |
paxonel:Are you? You said physical things cannot test miracles. I gave you examples of physical things doing just that and now you say you're not speaking of physical things. |
paxonel:Hello. Do you remember when one Mr Oyedepo or so claimed to have driven a car for hundreds of kilometres on an empty tank? Since you ordinarily can't see the contents of a car's fuel tank, the claimant had to rely on the measurement taken by the fuel gauge. During the course of the miracle, with the car crusading ahead on its empty fuel tank, the fuel gauge continued to work and to produce a measurement of "no fuel". A fuel gauge is a very physical soulless device and it was able to observe the miraculous event. I think the measurement of a fuel gauge is evidence. Similarly, when you tune into Emmanuel TV, you are looking through the eyes of another physical device, a camera, as it witnesses the abundance of miracles taking place nearly everywhere in its immediate vicinity (the ceiling is miracle free). You will agree that what a camera sees can be correctly called evidence. So, fortunately, miracles can be tested using physical or scientific apparatus. Raise another objection. |
mrZENographer:You make me want to curse. I guess you're on autopilot for now. |
mrZENographer:What is the person's offence? |
So who's going to hell on judgment day, the person or the evil spirit professing atheism with the person's mouth? |
KingEbukasBlog:Amen. I only do girls, sorry. ![]() |
Ayomivic, there were atheists long before there was sufficient scientific knowledge to comment on the possible origins of the universe. These atheists are the fools referred to in the bible and the apostates in the quran. These people lived in times when everyone and their mother were superstitious and there was no where to hide from all of the magic and they were still atheist. Being an atheist takes more than good knowledge of science, or there would even be no theist scientists and lovers and science. You also speak as if there is any difference between the supernatural claims of the major world religions and those of the pagans you mention. Magic is magic, though in terms of compelling power, major religions like Christianity possess more of it than the others you mention. Juju might be more compelling to you, which is fine, but that is hardly the basis for claiming that anyone who rejects its alleged power is deceived. It is, after all, said to be the work of lesser forces than forces like Allah so you need to ask yourself if smaller forces can succeed at a task in which the bigger ones have failed. |
blueAgent:Na simple questions I ask you o. What is all these you are writing? It is not obvious to me that there is any God who established any natural laws. When did any of that even become an issue? We are talking ethics here, not physics. Something that makes you unhappy or suicidal is not necessarily morally wrong. In the same vein, it is not morally wrong to have a mental illness. I'm pretending that your claims are even factual. |
This can hardly be called proof. |
blueAgent:Are you responding to me? I don't think you are. I haven't said anything along the lines of what you've written. I said I can explain why I claim that killing is wrong. I didn't say that everybody must believe that killing is wrong. In any event, most people who kill know that killing is wrong, or else they would kill themselves and their loved ones too. However all of that is irrelevant to our discussion at this stage. I haven't said anything about what is or isn't natural. I only asked you whether naturalness has a moral value. Once again, explain why you claim that it is wrong to be transgender or to do an abortion or etc. And then explain why anything which your God commands must be morally right. |
blueAgent:Perhaps you're laughing because you're simple? It's insane and unnatural to be gay or transgender, that's your case. My questions still stand. Let me give you an example. If I have to explain why killing is bad, I can say that it is bad because every person has a right to life and killing them violates that right. I can go further to explain why everybody has a right to life. I can even say that killing is bad because the God I worship says it is bad. These are what explanations look like. If I say killing morally wrong because it is insane or it is unnatural, that does not help anyone understand my position. Is insanity morally wrong or right? Does naturalness have any moral value? Try to answer my questions directly so we can proceed. Thanks. |
blueAgent:No. You're claiming that every one of God's moral views is correct. Why is that? And why do you think it is wrong to be transgendered or to be gay or to abort a fetus and all of that? If you can't give the basis for your position why should I engage you? |
blueAgent:Wrong answer. |
blueAgent:Where is the explanation you're supposed to give? |
blueAgent:I laugh at your indoctrination. Explain why all the things you listed, except killing, are wrong. Then explain why every of your God's moral views should be correct. |
The holy trinity was the first same sex union, or thereabout. Most of these churches have their theology all wrong, which is very wrong. Let love prevail please. |
Please read some physics books. By the way, the candles which we use in our coven produce flames which cast shadows. Because we are so full of darkness.
|
sylvalord:The point I'm making is that you can equally make the discovery that religion is a sham and still remain agnostic. Agnosticism is not really a bridge to anywhere. It is a destination of its own. I'm raising an issue of accuracy, and I think it is more accurate to say you were sceptical rather than agnostic. I don't think the distinction is of any moment to you though. Congrats on your transition. |
Stupedinluv:Of course, this is the best response you can manage. |
Stupedinluv:What did the first atheist read? How come I was an atheist before I read my first material on atheism? Where will you find a Christian who has never read or been told of Christ? |
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spectrum_of_theistic_probability. @OP: Someone who is agnostic is not a budding atheist, fyi. I wouldn't say you were previously agnostic, since someone who is purely agnostic can just as easily become a theist as an atheist. You have been an atheist for longer than you realize. |
What you call juju can also be called a miracle. Calling it a miracle might help you realise that what goes on in churches or other places has the same weight in the mind of the christian or other person as that which juju is having on your mind. You can easily reject the juju in the churches, but not the miracle on the streets. The atheist can easily reject all. What you need to do is apply whatever reason you used to reject the juju in churches to your belief in the realness of miracles. |
Quite the opposite, I'm afraid. Ever since I watched "oganigwe" and started worrying about being cursed like that. |
OLAADEGBU:Right. Now answer the other question. |
See as una serious dey talk this kind thing. |
