You must understand that every game is unique and passion will vary. For example you cannot compare the passion against Spurs to when we play Burnley. In fact it will take a lot of inner strength to find passion against such teams. That's why it's said that some players are big game players it's because that's the kind of matches they easily express their passion.

Same reason why Man Utd can lose to small teams but beat City and Chelsea hone and away.

Don't worry our boys will find the passion needed to face City. It's an away game so there will be a lot of pressure from City. But with Arteta I believe we will find the grits to get something out of the game.
They said you're Ty of this thread, Infact you must have read lots of Wenger's quotes.. your optimism no get levels ...

An intelligent fan opined below..

The problem is that most of the players are not suited for the EPL because of the intensity and pace of the games in the EPL. This players would flourish in a lesser league. That is why we should always scout and buy players who’s natural way of playing is intensity and pace. By so doing, we’ll have the type of players that are suited to the EPL with little or no adaptation period ela Alex Sanchez.

South Americans and Africa most times parade this type of players..

I believe Doucoure,Ndidi,Ake,Grealish,Zaha,Cantwell,
Richalison,Diogo jota et Al will adapt faster..

Players outside England like Thomas Partey,Douglas Costa, Inaki Williams, Nabil Fekir will suit English football..

The scouts should look into players of that frame instead of Sexy London boys, old rejects, deadwood from rivals, injury prones and cheap loan deals.

I watched the Manchester Derby and the only thing I saw in that game was passion and desire from manu Tactics counted for nothing but a will to do whatever it takes not to lose to city was all I saw. I really hope we can see such from our lads going into the game against city even though I doubt it. Sometimes tactics count for nothing if the desire to win at all cost matching the opponent stride for stride and winning all the 50/50 challenges and giving them little or no time on the ball is not done.

Unfortunately I really do not see those attributes often in our players and unless they put that into play coupled with the tactical understanding the manager is drilling into them, then we may win lower opposition but still lose woefully to the top guns.

I'm even skeptical of our chances against Sheffield in the fa cup because Sheffield are a well drilled team. And their players have passion in them to go out and do whatever it takes to win. We really need our team Phycologist to help this team understand that winning should be a habit and losing should not be an option against any opposition. The game against westham could have gone south if West Ham converted their chances and to think we were at home. I can't fault the manager here because its glaring what he his trying to instill but seems some of our personell are not good enough to execute. I really just hope we can make top four but more optimistic about the next season where arteta can get funds to bring in his own type of players and a full pre-season. All in all hoping we can do well on Wednesday and the rest of the season
Bro, I sweriGod you sabi.. This is/has been my feel on this team.

I saw utd did same at Etihad and on Sunday, utd do not have players or tactics to down city, rather it was the super electric energy that did it...

The utd defenders were physical, brave and never giving up.
Matic was another gigantic figure blocking everything..
All could be because its a derby, and Arsenal does same most times against spurs..

But generally, this team is characterized with soft, Slow, weak, lazy and too one footed players
I don't trust our defence coping with City's forwards energy and pace..
They will be too fast and strong for us..
Have we not seen Sokratis,Luiz and Xhaka against fast energetic inteligent players? Expect errors, penalty and fouls from them.

Utd weren't that spectacular but the will to win won it, and that's same with Sheffield, ( very daring and willing to do it).

There's little to what Arterta or any coach can do, it will always bounce back to the coach anyways, Didn't we see high pressing in Enemy's first few games? It died off, now its happening again. The players want to do it the easy way, this isn't 2012, French ligue or bundesligdown

Its either they aren't willing to do it or naturally lack that desire.

Maybe a psychologist can help address it,but It will take tiiiiiiiiiiiiiime and fans no get chill, all will be bounced on the coach again.

Yeah...OK means, just good enough. Nothing exceptionally more.

Lol, wen discussing players, please, let's don't call Ronaldo or Messi biko. Those 2 aren't players but aliens.

The bolded is true, which means we're getting somewhere. While kdb wasn't given chance at Chelsea tho, same with salah, so we can't judge them then..I remember reading an article were kdb literally begged mou to be given chance, but my guy no gree.
Xhaka on the other hand, we've seen him play time and again... But we all know his limited in some basic critical qualities according to his position. Can't tackle, can't push ball forward, No speed and all. So he's just good enough. Even his outside 18 shot have stopped sef. What we need is that "sometimes extra" in his quality and maybe we'll be good. Look at wen we paired coquelin with cazorla(on his peak season). Even tho coq is not scoring, nor assisting, but then we're always confident that once opponents are venturing to our half, they won't find it easy cos he's good at tackles and interceptions. He doesn't over-do and releases the ball quickly. He wasn't world class but we cherished him then...imagine we had that kinda person now partnering ceballos... Mehn, midfield don dope na.
That's the kinda players we want....
Lacazette also na anoda OK player.
I think say na only me rate Coquelin, though his forward play is not good enough, but defensively, he's been the best since Alex Song.

Carzola who also wasn't superb defensively, was very smart, technical skillful and uses the ball v.well, both complement each other.

Xhaka was the reason we sold Coq,he was believed to be an upgrade( Swizz and Mochenglach captain).

I remembered when Wenger paired Xhaka and Coq after carzola's injury, Xhaka as usual sits deep and doesn't move, Coq who is more Mobile though lacks good forward play was saddled with the carzola role but performed woefully and that was the beginning of his end..

I didn't like his sale.

Coq and Carzola have been the best pair in recent years..
Xhaka with carzola,Torreira,Ramsey,Guen,Willock hasn't impressed enough IMO.

So a Carzola like and a tall strong Coq is needed to sweet the middle.

If he's been okay as you stated, that ends the discussion, because talking about upgrading, every player that is not named Messi or Ronaldo can be upgraded.
Football today especially in England demands more than OKAY, in the least be "very good" if not brilliancy.

OKAY players are good for 5th,6th and 9th, but very good for something bigger.

Auba is an example of a player beyond being OKAY and maybe Torreira, they are very good/brilliant and are top4 materials.

The young players and new signings can be understandable to look OKAY for the main time, but the main Men starting every week have to do more than OKAY to get us above 5th,6th and 9th.

Messi and Ronaldo's brilliance is top notch.

Bros your point is not valid. Midfielders covering FBs have been employed for long with many successful teams including current top4 in EPL.

You have not taken your time to watch, I know you are smart. Kindly refer to Football Made Simple on YouTube for tactical analysis.

Kante covers Alonso (remember Martinelli goal Vs Chelsea?)
Fenandihno drops into CB to a 3man defence as both FBs for City push up.
Henderson or Fabinho covers Trent Alexander Arnold or Robertson (as the case may be) for Liverpool as Saah and Mane tuck into forward position.

This tactic is widely used and known to be effective. It adds more bodies in attack when a team is with the ball.

So Arteta's use of Xhaka as an auxiliary LB is not out of place and only shows how tactically flexible the player is. Xhaka even drops to CB when we are defending and LB when we are attacking.

There is a reason why Xhaka has always been on the first team since his U17 days in Nigeria for Switzerland to his time at FC Basel, to Borrusia Mgb , and Arsenal all under Wenger, Emery and now Arteta.

He may not be the super star midfield maestro, but he does bring value to his team. You can wish for Partey but don't underestimate Xhaka.

Cc Fkhalifa
Covering for defenders are basics most deep midfielders do, but the main job as seen with Alex Song,Axel Witsel,T.partey et Al is what is lacking..

Too one dimensional, one footed,no techniques, styles, sharpness and surprise element..

Yes, he's been OKAY, he may look better in orther leagues, but to move up with the top best in England, We need to upgrade to a better deep midfielder.

....and also, there have been some report about arsenal triggering Thomas partey release clause during the summer transfer window..

...and if that report turns out to be true then it means that xhaka will leave because Thomas is a single pivot DM that can play in a 4-3-3 formation just like fernadinho, compared to xhaka and torriera double-pivot DM,

yes! He has been better since Arteta took over and stopped partnering him with Guen. That said everyone agrees that he’s limited but selling him in January without a proper replacement would be recipe for disaster. Ceballos was injured at the time and you expect Arteta to sell Xhaka and be left with Guen and Torreira?

It’s not everyone that will be making rash and emotional decisions like Emery.
I think Blueray has explained everything in details, that's my take on Xhaka and I expected fans to be in tune with that, not until I started reading fans over blowing his "improvement" over the past few weeks like he should be in future plans..

Again, like Blueraydick said, the coach is just managing, Arterta helped and made him look better with Torreira who is the best deep midfielder here, he looked okay with Carzola also... But to achieve big, we need a better Player.
Guen and Willock are inexperienced and not physical enough to help his case and Ceballos can only try beside Xhaka.

I don't want to agree a FC with ambition cannot sell and get a quality replacement in that January.

You don't get it. Xhaka is only playing that makeshift Auxilliary LB role because that's like the only use he seem to have due to his weakness in core Midfield.

Just look at any of the top 5 to 6 teams in the league and point out any of them that adopts this pattern of play that involves the DM/CM shuttling between the middle and LB position. To me, this pattern that involves Xhaka deputizing for Saka each time the latter attacks is only adopted to manage the shortage of manpower in the two roles. I mean we have an inexperienced youngster playing out of position in LB, and a Physical DM that has not played the DM role as it is required.

Arteta is only doing what a football manager is expected to do; MANAGE!

Just like I pointed out, when we have Tiernney back and probably a backup LB to replaced Kolasinac, we should sell off Xhaka and buy a proper DM. Xhaka is far from being a proper DM and should not be used as an Auxilary LB if and when we have a LB that can be trusted to do his LB job.

You won't find Ndidi, Fabinho, Kante, Mctominay and even Eric Dier playing Auxiliary LB when there is enough battle to be won in the middle of the park.

If we process ant to be taken serious as a team, we should dispose Xhaka to free space in the middle for a player who will actually perform as a proper DM or CM in that midfield. Having a physical player who rarely passes forward, frequently fouls without winning ball from opposing players and refuses to play to the strength of his player is not what is required of a team that wants to be considered as challenging for the title next year.

It's better arsenal tries to buy Ceballos, then sell off Xhaka to free space for a physical midfielder who will be willing to contribute more to attack. I'm tired of seeing Xhaka playing all because he's the only player that is assumed to have physical strength in the middle, but yet we keep praying and hoping he doesn't get booked for a rash challenge when he's not busy playing the ball back to the defence.

I think.Pablo Mari remains a ball playing defender like he's shown in glimpses this night, getting a strong midfielder to replace Xhaka who will provide cover for the CB won't be bad
This Xhaka analysis just dey sweet my belle smiley
Sadly,Arterta and many feels he is back on form and doing great and should be part of Arteta's future plan.
