I got my B1/b2 visa with hubby, January solely for the purpose of vacation. At that time,I was pregnant. However,we were not planning to use the visa for birthing. We didn't know we could afford it until we came on this thread . Of course I have been to the USA before. On getting to the POE D CBP asked for the change of intent letter and correspondence. In addition we were told to pay all our bills and not accept Medicaid...

People can decide to change their plans anytime, and that is why the correspondence from the embassy states that; there is no legal requirement to change your purpose of visit.." Everyone that decides to change her purpose of visit is not fraud.

I am happy to read from various people's experiences on this platform. Please i will like to know your thoughts. My hubby, our 2yr old and myself got our b1 b2 visa in Nov 2015 for 2weeks Christmas vacation and I wasn't pregnant then. I was asked if I was pregnant and I said no,the VO also asked if we would seek any medical services and we said no. We have not travelled since then because of my tight schedule at work and i got preg in late 2016 and now we want to travel next month at 33weeks for vacation and to have our baby. Do I really need to send the change of intent letter? Based on what I have been reading many people don't think its necessary, I'm really confused. Also do u think I will have any issues with the Houston poe? Thank u for ur input on this.
You should send a change of intent letter, you would be asked at the POE

Hello dear, pls what does the response from the embassy look like, just to be sure it's the normal generic response, because this one plenty, very long email. Thanks.
CHANGE OF INTENT
I am *******, a licensed medical doctor currently practicing in Nigeria with passport number: *******. I am writing you this letter to inform you of my change of intent to travel to the US.

I currently hold a B1/B2 visa together with my husband meant for our family vacation to celebrate our first wedding anniversary at Florida in April.
Although, we did not nurse the idea of birthing in the US, but, after wide consultations and enquiries from some US hospitals, we realized we are financially buoyant to combine both our vacation and birthing in the US.

Furthermore, we have already paid the hospital deposit fee ($200) at the Oakbend Hospital, Houston, Texas and also plan to pay upfront for the full medical bills (about $****) before our arrival in the US. We are expecting our bundle in mid-June. In addition, we have made necessary arrangement for our accommodation already.

We opted for the US because of the significantly lower maternal and neonatal mortality especially for primigravidae and also spend some off work to rekindle our love in another environment.
I would appreciate any necessary correspondence to avoid any problem at the point of entry.

Thanks for your anticipated response on this matter.

Subject: RE: CHANGE OF INTENT TO TRAVEL
Thank you for your inquiry.

Please note that there is no legal requirement to inform us that you are seeking to give birth in the United States or that your purpose of travel has changed. The Customs and Border Protection, a branch of USCIS, determines a traveler’s eligibility of entry to the U.S, you should be prepared to demonstrate to the immigration officer at the port of entry why you are seeking medical treatment and that you have logistical and financial plans for the treatment. You should show the border protection agents upon arrival in the U.S. your detailed birth plan, which would include correspondence with your doctor, the cost of the delivery, any receipts showing prepayments for care and evidence that you have the ability to pay for all costs while in the U.S. up to and including your living expenses.
We recommend that you review the regulations on non-immigrant aliens entering the United States for purposes of childbirth at https://help.cbp.gov/app/answers/detail/a_id/882/~/visit-the-u.s.-while-pregnant-and-the-risks-involved and plan accordingly. Please you should not stay in the U.S. longer than you are permitted by Customs and Border Protection at the port of entry. The Department of Homeland Security at the port of entry will determine your eligibility to enter the United States on any travel.

If you choose to give birth in the U.S., we advise you to bring evidence of payment, both when you enter the U.S. on this visit, and at your future U.S. visa interviews.

Sincerely,

Hello! Currently in Houston with my DH!
My experience at the POE was epic!
I got my B1B2 January with my husband for the purpose of our wedding anniversary. However we later decided to use the visa for birthing. I went through the thread and realized it's possible, even without first using for the main purpose of visit.
I quickly drafted the change of intent letter to the embassy and got a correspondent.
Then I made contact with Oakbend hospital in Houston.
I flew with my DH and we used Turkish airline. I was 34weeks 6days. Got the fit to fly from the airport.
Turkish airline has really upgraded as free WIFI was available in the flight from Turkey to Houston (13hrs)
At the POE 1st ( CBP) (He was looking unhappy already) what is your purpose of visit ?
ME: childbirth and vacation
CBP: How much do you have on you?
ME : 9k$
CBP (mean face) : How long are you staying for?
Me: 7weeks but my husband would leave after 5weeks.
CBP: Did you inform the embassy at the time of your interview
Me: No, cos at that time we hv not decided to birth in d US
CBP: He was like, he started raising his voice and said we should give him a straight forward answer.
DH: No, but we sent a change of intent letter and got a reply.
CBP: Can I have the letter and correspondence?
DH : we started looking for the letter o, I was already sweating, alas! He found it, d CBP was so mean, told us to move away from him that we are not ready. We apologized, but he didn't accept. So we chilled till he was done with everyone on the line
CBP: can I hv d letter
Me: we gave him, and he went through it, then collected the reply from the embassy and did same
CBP: where would you be staying?
Me: my friends place, her name is .......
CBP : how long hv you known her
Me: 1 year now.
CBP: Have you met her b4?
Me: I said no, it was my brother that linked me up with her.
CBP: why are you lying? You called someone you have never met your friend? You are a liar
Me: I was trying to explain... Then he shut me up, my husband too wanted to explain he just shunned us and told us to get out and not argue with him. He called d police standing behind him gave our passports to him and told us to follow him after capturing and bio metrics. I was already scared and I started praying , reading psalms and pleading for Gods mercy in my mind.
We got to the secondary inspection and asked to sit down.
There we saw other people sitting, after a while we were offered something to eat, I didn't hv appetite, though I was hungry.
CBP2 summoned just me after about 1 hour. He looked more friendly and cultured.
CBP: what is your purpose in d US
ME : vacation and childbirth
CBP : Do you have a doctor you are communicating with already?
Me : yes
CBP2: Can I d have evidence?
Me : gave him my doctors correspondence, estimated cost of delivery letter, ...
CBP: who "d be paying?
Me : myself.
CBP: Are you going to be having CS or VG birth?
Me : VG birth by God's grace
CBP 2 : How much do you have on you
Me : 9k$ plus my ATM cards
CBP: How much is the estimated cost of delivery
Me : 5k3$
CBP: who "d you be staying with?
Me: A friend my brother linked me up with
CBP: smiled and said she's not your friend but your brother friend. I said ok
CBP: Do you know what the problem is with the first CBP?
Me: No
CBP: A person you have not met is not your friend. The lady is your brothers friend.
How come the hospital is not providing an accommodation?
Me: I don't know if they do, because I never asked.
CBP: Make sure you don't accept to use any insurance cos it may cause your visa to be revoked . And collect all your receipts for subsequent visas. He asked if I wanted to make any enquiries. There was none. So, he stamped my passport and DH passport with 6months B2 Entry stamp.
I have gone for my first doctors appointment today and it was awesome. Thanks to the people on this thread, got to know about the change of intent and other information from this forum.

@chimah3, nice post.

But what will be the content of the bank reference letter? would it just state that you have funds in your account or that they guarantee that the funds in the account will be used to pay your fees/ living expenses. if it is the latter, then I can tell you that no bank in Nigeria will give such assurance to you. Its like a Bank Guarantee and it has to involve the Legal department. The bank can be held responsible if such student is unable to pay fees.

What the embassy is trying to do, is to catch up with people that lodge money into their account for application and then give them out to the owners after application.

The issue we are having is that Nigerian students abroad, are finding it difficult to pay fees because of our exchange rate system and most can't find a good job abroad to raise their fees.

I think the best thing to do is to show your bank statement in dollars or other third currencies. Every other thing you wrote down there can be easily gotten except the bank reference letter.

Lastly I want to encourage everyone to pay tuition for at least one year because it will be difficult to raise your entire tuition while schooling. Also take advantage of this CBN intervention @ 360/dollar. It is not sustainable and can be stopped anytime.

Wish all of us success in our study permit application.

chimah3:
For those that got a letter from the embassy asking for additional bank assurance letter and CBN letter...

Please do the following:

1. Get a Reference letter from your bank or Sponsors bank (If sponsored)
2. Get your sponsor to write an attestation letter stating that they are still willing to support you.
3. Get a more recent bank statement (If you have a dorm account with converted funds PLEASE include it too and state in the cover letter you are going to write that those funds have already been converted for part or wholly for your required 10000 CAD living expense)
4. Attach this CBN circular that shows you are able to carry up to 10000USD (https://www.cbn.gov.ng/out/2015/ccd/money%20laundering%20press%20release.pdf)
5.Attach this CBN circular that also shows you are entitled to 4000 USD FROM CBN when your visa is approved (https://www.cbn.gov.ng/out/2017/ccd/circular%20on%20new%20policy%20on%20pta%20school%20fees.pdf)
6. Attach confirmation letter from school showing you have paid your school fees and Attach receipt if you feel its necessary.
7. Write a cover letter explaining all Ive said here, also write and assurance them that the necessary funds are available and you promise funding will not be an issue. (Future SOP writer please always spell this point out in BOLD). #Tip

When this is done...Please come and share your success story. It shall all end in praise!!

I applied for my visitors visa on the 17th of March with my husband, got a mail that decision was made on the 5th of April, we got our passports with visas on the 7th of April. Although have had previous UK visas, but I didn't apply from Nigeria at that time. So, when I decided to apply again, this time around with my husband who has never gotten or applied for a UK visa, I searched through the forum and got a handful of information. Below are the list of documents we took to TLS, it was scanned and was given back to us.
1, Standard Application form for 2 of us
2, Hotel confirmation, booked on booking.com
3, Bank statements for me and him, over 2million Naira each, we don't have pay slips!
4) leave letter from our various place of work( both doctors) and letter of employment from our previous and current place of work
6) our medical license to practice plus renewal receipt
7) wedding pictures( photocopies) our purpose of visit is our anniversary
cool Detailed statement of purpose from both of us, listing the tourist attractions we would be visiting
9) Car Documents
10) Land Survey DOcument of our piece of land, not yet developed
11) marriage certificates
12) Affidavit of change of name
13) previous UK visas
14) photocopies of previous visas
15) Certificate of Ownership of our accommodation ( owned by my dad)
16) my fathers bank statement cos he transferred a sum of 1million Naira to me a month ago, I explained in my SOP, cos I didn't want the VO to hv the impression of a lump sum of money in my account
17 ) sealed it with prayers
In order to make payments for visa, one of our friends who lives in Canada paid with his Card

Hello respected housemates,

Please I need an answer to my curiosity, I applied to the University of Saskatchewan sometimes last year October with all requirements fully completed, but I am surprised I'm yet to hear from them. Getting nervous.

My program is scheduled to start by September fall 2017, till now the Graduate administrator told me I would be inform on the admission outcome as soon as the committee sit.

I will be glad to know if there's anyone with experience of what I'm currently passing through. I'm concerned with the visa processing time. And funding is one big obstacle ahead.

Thanks as you respond.
I also applied to the university of Saskatchewan since January for MPH and Community Health ... Till now nothing has been updated on my profile

Check EE/PR thread section. I read few banks and one org at airport give out about usd4k if you have valid visa, plane ticket, etc. Just that, they say on the thread, you will likely get the amount on your day of travelling or about to board plane. Like buying gala and drink or bread style on Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

Visa or admission SOP?

Generally, any of the above must answer question of why you are writing it.

Sample format.

Paragraph 1: your interest. What you have done in my interest (briefly). Why you are writing the SOP.

Para 2 or 3: what you did in my interest(major one). How you did it. What you got from it Including awards and excellent grade. How it influence what you want to do.

Para 2 or 3: what you want to do. How you want to do it. What you hope to achieve with it.

Para 4: your goal. Why you believe your goal is related to what you are writing the SOP for. What you desire by writing the SOP.

Optional paragraph for Visa: how you will finance your study. How you got (if scholarship) and or why (if relative or friend) that option of finance. Evidence of finance as included in documents submitted.

Optional paragraph for Visa: what you have as home tie as included in documents submitted. Why they are home tie. What you intend to do with them upon end of study.

Generally, stick to 1-1.5 pages max if max pages n't specified.

Thank you.

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Advice Needed:best Country For Nigerian-trained Doctors To Migrate To??? by Flawless1988: 12:25pm On Feb 07, 2017
Laird:
Best options now to My opinion are UK plab, Saudi arabia and Dubai (uae), Ireland and South Africa

1)
of which Dubai needs 2 years post house job experience.writing then writing uae prometric exam in Ghana(nearest to Nigeria centre), if you pass fly to Dubai(uae) with a 3 month visiting visa and your Nigerian certificates certified by ministry of foreign affairs, medical tests and look for a job
If You get a job in Dubai, convert your visiting visa to work visa there in Dubai(uae) you can also look at cheaper non Dubai emirates to save more money if you want to write exams for ukplab, USMLE exams, Australia AMC to.move later

Also
he following examinations have been designated as DHCC Approved Physician Exams of which no further extra need to pass Dubai uae exams

• Australian Medical Council Exam – www.amc.org.au/exam.asp • TRAS (Ireland -Temporary Registration Assessment Scheme) Parts I, II, and III – www.medicalcouncil.ie/

• PLAB (UK) Parts I and II – www.gmc-uk.org/register/default.htm

• USMLE (US) Parts I and II (CK) – www.usmle.org

• Applicants certified by ECFMG are eligible for consideration without being required to pass an additional examination.

• Applicants who have passed Parts I and II of the Royal College exams are eligible for consideration without being required to pass an additional examination.

• Applicants who have passed the Medical Council of Canada Qualifying Exam Parts I and II are eligible for consideration without being required to pass as additional exam

Also a religious sensitive and patient sensitive environment

2)
Saudi Arabia has a 3 year post graduation requirement then applying through 2 major agents in Nigeria, agents collect cash and arrange visas, arrange ticket and hospital postings from Saudi hospitals. It is a religiously sensitive environment with female restrictions but guys go to gather money to write exams to move up to Dubai (uae), UK plab, US USMLE, Australia AMC,
also need Nigerian ministry of foreign affairs certificate verification, mdcn certificate of good standing, maybe transcripts, maybe medicals. Saudi Arabia processing takes some time too..some months....ask the agents and ask questions too at the Saudi embassy

3)

Uk plab is all about getting your IELTS academic 7.o minimum in all sections and 7.5 cumulative average

Then registering your scores on GMC website and getting your GMC number

Applying and registering for March or November plab1 exam international exam dates in Nigeria, Sudan, southafrica, Dubai any centre of choice

You can also write plab1 multiple times in the UK if You have the cash

After passing Plab1 apply for UK visiting visa to go to UK and write plab2 exam and 1 month of plab2 school in hammed, swammy or Samson plab2 school is advised before exam

Find out if there is need for UK clinical attachments

If You pass plab2 in UK, get a job offer and fly back to Nigeria to write UKvi IELTS and apply for tier 2 labour shortage visa in uk nigerian embassywith Your job sponsorship letter
May need Nigerian ministry of foreign affairs certificate verification, mdcn certificate of good standing, maybe transletter, maybe medicals

Some people go for UK masters and write all the plab 1 and 2 there in UK and convert their UK student visa to UK tier2 work visa there in the UK for a UK government fee after passing plab1 and plab2
You cannot convert a uk visiting visa to UK tier2 work visa in the UK even if You pass plab1 and 2 and get a job and a job sponsorship letter. You have to come back to Nigeria and apply for a work visa tier 2visa with your letter of employment and job sponsorship letter and number from your UK medical employer and also do the IELTS ukvi exam if you did only IELTS academic before writing plab.
You would be given a 30 days visiting visa to travel to Uk and You will collect Your 3 year temporary residence and workpermit from uk government inside Uk.after flying and moving to the uk within 30 days of receiving your temporary 30 day visa.

You can only convert Your uk student visa to UK tier2 workvisa after passing UK plab1 and plab2 and getting a job and a job sponsorship letter there and you pay the visa conversion/ adjustment/ fees to the appropriate UK government agency/ authority there in the uk

Travel / Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 5 by Flawless1988: 10:20pm On Feb 05, 2017
Annonn:
Hello,

In the spirit of giving back: I wrote to the Lagos embassy to notify them off my updated intention to give birth in the US (I had initially obtained the visa visa dropbox in August 2015 for a holiday. I did not go to the US but I went to another country for the holiday).
