Goodvibes007: Thanks bro. God bless yours too! Chief, I thought a lot about this, hesitating severally before deciding to just clear my mind. It's better that I get a "no", than to keep wondering if I could have gotten a "yes". I want to erase any possible "what if" which may arise in future. I'm an undergraduate, in my 4th year of pharmacy school. Ever since March that school has been shut down I've been wasting away. I just found out about international freelancing skills and I've decided to pick up video editing skills as well as graphic design skills, so i can be able to earn a living. Nigeria is hard and no jobs around even for those who are willing to work. I intend taking the job search to foreigners on Upwork, Fiverr, so I can earn a living. But freelancing skills require good laptop. I don't have any and unable to raise money to buy one. A laptop that can run video editing applications will cost about 60k. I don't have any money. But if it pleases you, you can purchase from any of our nairaland laptop dealers. I had to swallow shame to do this publicly. But, difficult times call for desperate actions, and this is what I truly need. However, I'll take any word you have to say to me in good faith. But please, please consider. May God bless you. |

The communique was signed by the Commissioner of Education, Kaduna, Dr Shehu Makarfi, who is also the Chairman of the Northern States School Exchange Programme.
Bauchi, Gombe, Niger, Nasarawa, Adamawa, Taraba, Kogi, Kwara, Katsina, Kano, Borno and Jigawa.
Just imagine those deciding the present educational predicament of all of Nigeria; the uneducated North.
Ministry of Education should never be under the leadership of a Northerner. After all they are not usually education-inclined. As a matter of fact, their best leader Buhari doesn't even have WAEC certificate so it's understandable why they want 2020 WAEC examination scrapped, while they noisly beat election drums in Edo and Ondo states. |

Danielhouston: I usually think about my family and friends. Then I think about all the craziness in Lagos, from danfo, arguing with conductor, climbing pole to fix light, the road side markets, funny incidents that I experienced, and I laugh. Sometimes I watch Nigerian news on my phone, just to hear the accent and see Lagos.
Then I think about my life before I came to Germany, my childhood, how I suffered, how I got my visa. My best memory is usually about what happened after I got my visa. How I felt, the day I was traveling at the airport, the first day I landed in Germany, my first months in Germany, then I go back to my life in Nigeria.
I tell you, it’s a great feeling. I just sit alone and laugh. Then I take a deep breath and say to myself “I’m here now, the storm is over, I can travel anywhere I want”. Nigeria feels like a shit hole when you’re living there, but when you live abroad, you’ll miss Nigeria. You don’t wish to go back there but you’ll just miss the simplicity of life in Nigeria. The sense of humor and friendliness.
One story I never forget, is the day I got my admission letter after so many rejections. Then the day I was leaving Nigeria, how my family reacted, my experience at the airport. All the images flash before my eyes like a movie. Tear almost dropped from my eye |

Goodvibes007: My initial education was Nigerian. I had to go back to a Canadian Uni for the extra 16months program. It worked like magic. Yes they hold their own education in high esteem. If I hadn't done that program, who knows if I would still be on my security job. This thing ehhn, it requires a lot of patience and planning. Now my wife and I rake over $200k a year. After taxes at source, we are still left with around 135k to 140k. After all bills, expenses, remittance to naija, and other payments, we are still saving $50k per year. See motivational speech Sounds like Disney fairy tale I swear |

Goodvibes007: You know, as humans, we all have hope and keep praying for the best. Before we live Nigeria, we have this dream of once I land ehhh, employers go dey rush me.
It's not after he realised that things weren't going as planned and dreamed that he started considering the school option. I myself went back to school after I could get something nice. After months of research and planning, I chose a very good program. The schooling took 16 months. Coupled with my past work experience and the schooling, my first job immediately after graduation was $86,000 per year without even considering all the juicy pension and other benefits that adds like an extra $30k per year. I even got the job a month before graduation. Now I am at over $100k.
Funny how all I got was rejection before I went back to school. That was why he contacted me to advise on his consideration of going back to school. I'm sure you have him your seal of approval. I'm sure you also advised him to take time to research well just as you did. Finally, these foreign countries trust their own education better. Your education was Canadian too? |

Goodvibes007: He has not being able to get a good job for around 3 years. He is currently working (I think) in a bank call centre. He was a senior staff in a Nigerian bank before he travelled. He is now considering taking a student loan and return to school.
Abroad works for some, it doesn't work for others. The OP's friend might find it easier though as programmers are usually in demand. Programming is not an easy something. Funny how he didn't decide to return to Naija when things went south Anyway, if he must take up loan to return to school, he should try venturing into a field that is very relevant in Canada, so as to have greater chance of landing great pay in Canada. |
