Been so busy with studies and settling down here. What's the importance of SSN? Do we need it as students?

Tired of trying to settle in. My landlord just said he can rent out the apt to me anylonger cos the court wouldn't stamp/seal the lease agreement unless I've lived in the US for over 1yr or have a green card... School has resumed since tuesday and I still haven't even step a foot into the school....

imperiouxx: Sorry to hear this. I will suggest moving to dorm (I stayed in the dorm first 2 and half month I got here). After you know your way round, you break the dorm's agreement and move out to the new place. Schools will always give you your balance back. Open account with wellsfargo nothing will be asked than your passport and student ID but that sum is too much to start with without showing some papers. Best is save some and pay the remaining to your student account. Don't come back tomorrow to tell me something went wrong with the money o.

ApachaiHopachai: You should get a letter from your school's international student office identifying as a student which you would use to open your bank account. Also you can try buying a money order...which is like a cheque so when you open your account you can pay it in. The money order can be gotten from post office or grocery store ( I think Walmart does it).
You need to fight that fever so that you are in full force for classes...back to my first week assignments.

You don't seem to understand. The room is empty, and I can't sleep on the bare floor. I've signed the lease but I haven't paid for it yet. The house is on the bus route but where I'm presently staying isn't even close to school but very far and I don't even know how to get a bus to school from here and my host doesn't have a car plus its a very long walk to where I can get a bus.... I'm even falling sick, I woke up with fever this morning and been in bed since. Couldn't even do anything today
How do I even open a bank account cos I've been carrying close to $10,000 in my purse ever since I came, and if I ever get robbed I'll loose everything. Settling down is one big problem for me here

Ok. But checking online I got info that a sim card cost more at JFK, about $50... They say getting a disposable phone would cost lesser. Which network? T-mobile? Not sure if I'll be taking my phone with me. Just wondering which network is affordable. Prepaid or which ?

And am sure majority of nairalanders have also used them without itch. where are you guys getting yours,why don't you just go to their lekki office to complain that's if you got issue intead of tarnishing their image

I used wakanow for the very first time it it was Hell.. Yes you used their service and got what you wanted but it didn't work for me that way... What sort of company sees a customer booking and then gets a bank deposit payment alert for the booking all on the same day and then cancell the booking without calling the customer to inform him/her. And then few days later you get to find out your booking has been cancelled anbmd your're asked to pay more money to get another booking... Rubbish!! They could have been reliable before but now I wouldn't advice anyone to use their service again. It hurts when you think you have a day fixed for yuour travel and then days later you find out your booking didn't stay and then your're asked to pay more money for another date you didn't bargain for. My host had to take some time off work to come pick me up at the airport for the day I was to arrive and now that It was cancelled, I'll have to find my way aRound a town I have never set foot on, anmd also pay more $$ and get a date I didn't bargain for. Its so painful

GboyegaD: I have used them and many of my friends still did this Fall. I will say it was just an unfortunate event. In my time, they even got me a cheaper ticket than the one I wanted although it took them almost a month to refund the amount I paid above the one they got for me. Don't be angry with them and just pay the N39k. Take it as one of those things.

you'll have to ''sit down on their neck''! If you were in Lagos, i'd have advised you visit their office. But since u r in ib, then keep bombarding them with phone calls. I had a similiar issue with Travelstart, booked & paid at their office on a saturday afternoon yet no e-ticket *coz that particular flight fare was no longer available*. I didnt allow them rest & they eventually came up with another itinerary for me on Tuesday evening like 2 days before i travelled after i firmly rejected an almost 100k cheaper Egypt air option (Egypt na wahala zone right now...stop overs there might not be a good idea) tho i paid an extra 49k sha. So keep bombarding them with phone calls....don't freak out tho.

Go to their office and complain . I suspect a change in fare might have occurred and they'll demand you pay extra for the new fare , they're fond of doing that . I've never trusted them cos they eventually give the tickets to those that pay , but they're shady

I wish I never used their service. I've wasted my credit calling them. I've re-sent emails countless times but they have not replied me. One of their agent said she will call me back but up till now she hasn't. Another agent dropped my call after I had spent 20minutes and wasted my airtime. I just wished I never used them

I couldn't pay that saturday again so emirates booking expired. I checked wakanow on monday and saw a cheaper emirates flight. I've paid since monday and wakanow has refused to call me or send me my e-ticket. Whoever has used them before should please let me know if it takes them this long. So I'll know if I'll be travelling to lagos to visit their office

Ms Nas: I thought you booked with Emirates? Frankly, I've never tried wakanow, and I don't think I will. From the reports I've been hearing about them. Give them this week to do their thing, once dey don't respond, march to their office next monday. I'm sure if they see you, they'll give you the reason for the delay

I checked on wakanow.com on monday and saw a cheaper emirates flight and then I booked and went to make the payments the same day which was monday. I called them immediately I left the bank and also emailed them. I've called severally again but all they keep saying is that they will issue me an e-ticket. Today is thursday and yet no email from them yet. Its giving me sleepless nights

I know you directed this to justwise but I just wanna contribute , I don't think they are because members of nl claimed to have used them before . Now regarding your reservation , I'm not sure how waka now operates but normally when you book , there is a booking reference no , when you enter this no and usually your surname on the airlines website you can see the booking , bookings expire in 48 - 72 hours so if you have the booking code from when you booked and try to enter it on the airlines website you should be able to see the status of the booking .. This may not work though if waka now has their own booking code they give seperate from the airline's . My two cents .. What airline is it btw ?

I booked emirates on wakanow.com. I've been calling and emailing but all they say is they will contact me. I made the booking and paid on monday. Yet no response from them. They said they will email me an e-ticket but nothing yet from them. This is giving me sleepless nights as my travel date is fast approaching. Please has anyone ever experienced such before?

bigfrancis21: Lol. Their website can't be faulty. Lol. Are you booking using mobile or PC? Booking with Emirates is preferable on PC. The only details you'll have to enter are your name, email, phone number. Then after payment, you can enter other information and get to select your seat on the plane. I chose the window seats for both flights from Lagos to Dubai and Dubai to JFK. I wanna get to see the aerial view of Lagos and Dubai.

Finally, print out your booking ticket and take it with you to their office to pay. Make sure the booking ticket clearly contains your booking reference number(a 6-letter alphanumeric code given to every booking).

Finally, Go Emirates! You'll enjoy your Emirates flight. They've got terrific in-flight entertainment. On the plane, you can watch movies, MtV, News, Animal Planet etc on TV, play games(for game-loving freaks), make in-flight calls to another passenger on the plane by simply dialling their seat number, make out-of-plane calls and so much more. You're in for a sweet ride!

bigfrancis21: Payment at Murtala Mohammed Airport? I've booked and paid twice(one for me and the other for another person) and the two payment methods I saw online were online payment and cash deposit into their bank account at CitiBank, AccessBank or FirstBank.

I guess they said to pay at MMIA because of the 2-day
public holidays during which banks will be closed. And banks don't work on saturdays too. So the arrangement to pay at MMIA is perfectly fine.

You can only hold for 3 days maximum, a period of which you'll have to pay the flight cost. If you fail to pay after this 3 days, your booking will be cancelled .

How much is this booking? Hope its ok by you?

From the time given, the booking will expire by 8am on monday and I'm not sure you can make it to their office and pay on monday before 8am. However, they work on saturdays, from 9am to 12 noon. So if the price you got this booking is ok by you, I'll suggest you go tomorrow and pay between 9am and 12noon.
