That Onicha province which is present day Anambra and Enugwu States is 1493945 in population as compared to the whole West which is 1976291 in population has already rubbished whatever you had to say!
The other provinces were mixed with Igbos and non Igbos with Igbos making up at least 60% of population... Onicha is the only province that's wholly Igbo that's why I used it.
The Brits were the ones who did the census as far back as 1920...when no interests were at play so don't bring in any rubbish sentiments here....if it pains you that much ask the NPC to add ethnicity and religion to the 2017 data

All Yorubas are 'cut from the same clothe', so to speak, by the unshakable will of the Most High, be you Okun, Ijebu, Ijesha, Ekiti, Egba, Oyo, igbomina, Ondo, Akoko, etc. That is why we share natural borders, irrespective of the geopolitical zone we may find ourselves within present day Nigeria. In a Yoruba federation, the Okuns would most likely have their own state or province, just as the Ekitis presently do, and would be spared from the current marginalization they are presently facing in Kogi, wherein they are perpetually at the mercy of the larger ethnic groups. Whatever shred of 'identity crisis' afflicting them is entirely artificial and is a consequence of being lumped and grafted into an unworkable union that is the present day Kogi state, thereby starving them of much needed and deserved development. #FACT.

I think okun people need to carve a unique identity for themselves. Like the OP rightly pointed out, there seems to be some identity crisis in the beautiful land of Okun. The Yorubas do not sometimes regard them as core Yorubas while the Northerners also do not fully accept Okun. They are cut in between North or South West, in particular Yorubas.
When favourable positions go to the South West, the Okun people lose out while they also fail to claim goodies assigned to the North.
That is why I would suggest that Okun people approach other small ethnic groups in the Middle Belt and carve an identity as MIDDLE BELTERS! That way, they can fight and get whatever entitlements they deserve

Guy, abeg shove your suggestion up your arse coz we Yorubas aren't buying that shyt. Nahhh. When (not if) this country finally disintegrates and everybody bears their papa name, no single Okun Yoruba will be left out of the Yoruba Nation that'll emerge from its carcass. We Yorubas ain't buying your divide-and-rule tactics. The Okuns consent wasn't sought when they were lumped with the North as a part of presentday Kogi state. Had they been given an option, without a doubt they would've opted to be with their kith-and-kin in the SW. As you can see, no single Okun has so far dissociated him/herself from their larger Yoruba family so far on this thread. That should tell you that suggestions like yours aren't welcome. So just shove it.
