obnelly: A real farmer would rather do things by himself than allow somebody to do it for him.I still choose to raise from DOC to POL.Its simple and teaches me to learn so many things about chicks and pullets. You wouldnt believe this ,i understand what my chicken is trying to say because of personal interaction i had with them whenever they make different sounds.it means different things ,when they are in distress, when they are hungry ,when they wanna greet me for their feed to when they wanna lay eggs .And if 1000 birds is making noise at high decibel i can stop the 1000 to still.Reason why is because i took my time to understand and learn so many things about them.@obnelly, I like your moment here. True, a real farmer and one who will last will always want to have a first hand experience on all aspect of the farm. Later you can o bunch of things to move your farm forward, get a lot of help etc, but in the beginning start from point A and go from there. |
Napoleon umolo: D youth are just fooling him, nobidy will vote him into power, abi he tink say him be OBJ.OBJ was not voted into power, the system put him there. So if the system think that it is in the interest of peace (their thought not mine) to install him into power just like they did with OBJ, then all that you guys are doing here is just noise. |
[quote author=jamp]my people, anybody thinking of going into poultry business must keep alot of cash. am building a house for my 1000 DOC coming soon and i have spent so much. i bought a land from a village chief here in Abuja and i fneced it with zinc. the house was meant to accomodate 1000 birds but i heard it can contain 1500 cos its big. so far i have spent close to 2m on just building and the land. i heard i will spend more when the chick arrives. the flooring they did for me is very bad so i need to refloor the place. i thank everybody on this forum cos i have learnt alot. i blame myself for the flooring cos the person that started this thread had same problem and i failed to learn from it. @Jamp, Remember that the land and the building have a very long depreciation value, you will use them to raise thousands on birds, so if you break it down per bird, it is still a good deal. mine will cost me a whole lot more, invoice for my building is N2.8m, And I am not sure that it is going to stop there. My building should hold between 5000 to 8000 at a time. From day old to 8 weeks. So, hang in there. |
fnk: Thank you. I will have my guys take a look at the scheduled building position.I am glad to report that the current positioning out the site for our poultry building is East-West. So we are good. Thanks guys for your contribution |
obnelly: I just built a poultry house for myself ,cages ,feeder, nipples and planning to build a bioreactor to convert the poultry droppings into useful biobased products.Thank you. I will have my guys take a look at the scheduled building position. |
jesusmandator: positioning is crucial to d well being of ur birds...sunrise in the east and sunset in the west...the first wall side will face the east so as to shield away sun rise and the second wall side will face the west to as to prevent sunset.Thank you very much, what if the only way the house could be built is North/ South leaving the open sides to face East -West, can using tarpaulin to cover those sides during the rising and setting of the sun help? |
Folks, does anyone know anything about poultry house positioning? We are about to start building our poultry and someone informed us that we need to consider the position of the building. I don't understand what that meant. We have about 9 plots and we want to start with 2 to 3 plots for the poultry project. So talking about position; is it about where the building will face? or this guy just want to collect some consulting fee from us. Also he said we are to register with POULTRY ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA then they can help us in positioning the building. I don't mind registering with the respected agencies or organizations, I just want to understand the positioning deal. Any help will be highly appreciated. |
Tosade01: Thanks fnk, but unfortunately, I could not open those files. Kindly help me to resend.no wahala |
Tosade01: @ fnk I commend U̶̲̥̅̊r effort on here and the effort of others, av really learn a lot. Please kindly forward ur analysis to my email.Done, Please note that this analysis was done in 2011, so some prices have changed, but this should help as a guide. |
DnigerianPrince: I'll be following you keenly. I have my eyes on going on a large scale poultry farming but i have zero knowlege of the operations but willing to learn. Please keep us posted as you move along..ThanksWill do. |
jamp: Helloo house , am counting down to the arrival of my chicks. If you are counting down on your DOC, you should have already gotten everything you need to get going, well go back and quickly go through this tread, someone must have given that info here. Anyways, from my analysis, you will need about 40 drinkers for 1000 birds. Others may have a different number. Good luck, let us know how it goes. |

jites: @ fnk,Weldone and i know everyone on this thread are looking forward to you starting and wishing you all the best in your venture. Especially to see your special formulae put into practice, i have got a couple of questions to ask you though if you dont mind.@jites thank you for your encouraging words. This is something I have always wanted to do. My company represent American companies that want to expand their product distribution into Africa, I have brought in 4companies but amist all this, I feel having a business that is locally produced and locally consumed will be much better than so much worries about importation. So for me poultry business opportunity falls into that bracket. So I am glad to be starting something. To answer your question, want to focuse on broilers to start, and I want to build a pen that cab hold 8,000 birds at different stages, the pen will have demarcations inside (removable). I want to create a moving system where in each demarcation, we will have about 1,000 birds at different stage, I.e day old, a week old, 2 weeks old and so on. The deal is to create a system where we would have 1,000 birds ready for sale to our customers weekly. And as we grow, we can reduce it to daily. I am starting with 2 plots, but I have about 9 plots all fenced in, so their is space to expand into when needed. About the Sq/bird, I will double check, but to tell you the truth, I am following this tread religiously and learning from everyone, and I think above on this page, there is info on sq/bird that I am cross checking with other info I have. I just hired a supervisor, that will start work tomorrow, even though the poultry is not even build yet, his initial job will be to start from page one of this tread read every thing and take notes, thinking about it, I hope he doesn't run off to go start his owner after going through the tread. LOL!!! I want to do this thing right, this is an opportunity. Yes I will post pix to show how my V-mix is working. It will be fun. |

Especially to see your special formulae put into practice, i have got a couple of questions to ask you though if you dont mind. This is a good news for everyone on this forum, see below Customs intercepts 20,000 cartons of poultry products at Wednesday, June 12, 2013 ABOUT 20,000 cartons of contaminated frozen turkey have been intercepted by men of Nigeria Customs, Oyo/Osun Command. The banned items were being conveyed in an articulated truck with number plate LAGOS APP 770 XE to an undisclosed destination. According to the Deputy Controller, Administration, Bumba Usman Mohammed, who spoke on behalf of the Area Command Controller, Richard Oteri, the trailer load of frozen poultry products was arrested on old Abeokuta-Bakatari Road through intelligence gathering. "On Saturday 8, June, 2013, 19,750 cartons of turkey were concealed with 530 iron rods and plates. The market value is put at N98.6m." He warned people in Oyo and Osun to "desist from buying and eating frozen poultry products because they are hazardous to health and hinder growth. of national economy, as this frustrates the efforts of local farmers". Three weeks after intercepting over 56, 000 live ammunition, he hinted that the command had made another 25 seizures comprising 497 bags of rice, 139 bales of prohibited textiles, 621 used tyres, 600 bags of animal feeds, six cars, three trucks and one tipper lorry. About N11.3 million and a total revenue of N63.045m noting that increasing the revenue profile of the command and reducing the incidence of smuggling to the barest minimum still remained the focus of the command. All the banned poultry products were taken to a dump site at Akinyele Trailer park where they were destroyed. |

AjanleKoko: ^^^This is a proclamation to the world about family, if you understand it and follow it, you don't have to be a Mormon to have a happy home where there is mutual respect and understanding of each others' role in the family. So this proclamation could have been written by the Pope or the leader of other religious group. So take time and read it and if you are married read it with your spouse or spouse to be, and you will see what kid of loving home you will have and if you do have a loving home already, it will only add to it and reaffirm to you that you are doing the right thing. |
The Proclamation below should help. THE FAMILY A PROCLAMATION TO THE WORLD The First Presidency and Council of the Twelve Apostles of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints WE, THE FIRST PRESIDENCY and the Council of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, solemnly proclaim that marriage between a man and a woman is ordained of God and that the family is central to the Creator’s plan for the eternal destiny of His children. ALL HUMAN BEINGS—male and female—are created in the image of God. Each is a beloved spirit son or daughter of heavenly parents, and, as such, each has a divine nature and destiny. Gender is an essential characteristic of individual premortal, mortal, and eternal identity and purpose. IN THE PREMORTAL REALM, spirit sons and daughters knew and worshipped God as their Eternal Father and accepted His plan by which His children could obtain a physical body and gain earthly experience to progress toward perfection and ultimately realize their divine destiny as heirs of eternal life. The divine plan of happiness enables family relationships to be perpetuated beyond the grave. Sacred ordinances and covenants available in holy temples make it possible for individuals to return to the presence of God and for families to be united eternally. THE FIRST COMMANDMENT that God gave to Adam and Eve pertained to their potential for parenthood as husband and wife. We declare that God’s commandment for His children to multiply and replenish the earth remains in force. We further declare that God has commanded that the sacred powers of procreation are to be employed only between man and woman, lawfully wedded as husband and wife. WE DECLARE the means by which mortal life is created to be divinely appointed. We affirm the sanctity of life and of its importance in God’s eternal plan. HUSBAND AND WIFE have a solemn responsibility to love and care for each other and for their children. “Children are an heritage of the Lord” (Psalm 127:3). Parents have a sacred duty to rear their children in love and righteousness, to provide for their physical and spiritual needs, and to teach them to love and serve one another, observe the commandments of God, and be law-abiding citizens wherever they live. Husbands and wives—mothers and fathers—will be held accountable before God for the discharge of these obligations. THE FAMILY is ordained of God. Marriage between man and woman is essential to His eternal plan. Children are entitled to birth within the bonds of matrimony, and to be reared by a father and a mother who honor marital vows with complete fidelity. Happiness in family life is most likely to be achieved when founded upon the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ. Successful marriages and families are established and maintained on principles of faith, prayer, repentance, forgiveness, respect, love, compassion, work, and wholesome recreational activities. By divine design, fathers are to preside over their families in love and righteousness and are responsible to provide the necessities of life and protection for their families. Mothers are primarily responsible for the nurture of their children. In these sacred responsibilities, fathers and mothers are obligated to help one another as equal partners. Disability, death, or other circumstances may necessitate individual adaptation. Extended families should lend support when needed. WE WARN that individuals who violate covenants of chastity, who abuse spouse or offspring, or who fail to fulfill family responsibilities will one day stand accountable before God. Further, we warn that the disintegration of the family will bring upon individuals, communities, and nations the calamities foretold by ancient and modern prophets. WE CALL UPON responsible citizens and officers of government everywhere to promote those measures designed to maintain and strengthen the family as the fundamental unit of society. This proclamation was read by President Gordon B. Hinckley as part of his message at the General Relief Society Meeting held September 23, 1995, in Salt Lake City, Utah. |
miqos02: guy, cool down, this guy never raised any ones hope, he only shared his experience, i think people got it wrong when he said he had cost analysis documented, he did not promised to share any formulaThank you @miqos02 for coming to my aid. I never promised, a lot of people asked for the cost analysis and I emailed it to them and not the formula, Some even asked to buy from me and I told them that not at this time, that I will like to use my findings a a large scale before I can even think of bottling and selling it or I will just keep it as my competitive advantage in the industry. So I am not raising anybody's hope up. Those that I sent the cost analysis that I did as asked them to adjust it to their need has sent emails and said that it was helpful, definitely not a solution but a guide. I ran my research couple years ago, and then fuel price was N65, so all this changes need to be factored into the processes now. Thank you again for your understanding |
biafran soul: Lol.... you are such a fake. you said you're a farmer?Biafran Soul, Sorry ooo I never said that I am a farmer, go back to all my post, i said that I ran a research and I shared my result with some people here. I come here to learn so that when I am ready to start my own farm I would have learn and know where to go to in order to get what I need. This tread is full of great people giving great ideas. This is not a tread where you attack each other. I have not tried to sell you anything or to take anything from you, lets show respect to each other as we all try to learn from one another. |
davidzfarm: @fnk>Why are you quarreling with me and you don't even know me. I know what I have done, I have my report, you do not have believe me, I have not shared the formula with anyone and don't intend to any time soon. |
fnk: I have not started yet but hoping to start soon. I have other projects that is keeping me super busy now, I go back and forth, I just came back again to the country last week Monday, will be here for couple month and go back home again to hang out with the family.By the way, the birds got to that 3kg in 7 weeks. at week 5 they were 1.9kg. |
Tayeni: @fnk.....I agree wit you......its d band wagon syndrome. But I doubt if one can make a profit of 800 naira on a bird......d math doesn't add up going by how much a kilo of chicken costs now.I have not started yet but hoping to start soon. I have other projects that is keeping me super busy now, I go back and forth, I just came back again to the country last week Monday, will be here for couple month and go back home again to hang out with the family. Tell me, how much is a kg of chicken now, I know some of the cost of production has gone up. When I ran my research, it cost me less than N600 to raise the birds to 3kg from day old without the use of any medication and no any growth boost. And the N600 is even inclusive of the management and the depreciation of the fixed cost. So how much is the cost of a kg this days and for those already in the business raising their birds, what is the estimate cost to raise them to 3kg or any kg? Thanks |
Tayeni: I've noticed over 80% of poultry farmers here r into layers. why d low interest in broilers. I know they always target festive periods but pple still eat chicken in between these periods now.abi? A trip to a frozen foods shop is a proove. Am I just being naïve?I thing the issue with our people is that we like to follow the band wagon, Someone here has made a good case for Layers and the egg business and that is where everyone is going to now. It is about packaging, I live in the Lekki area, imagine that how many eateries in that stretch or road i.e restaurants, hotels bukas, and just small mom and pops you can sell live chicken to. My guess is that average restaurant or buka can use up 5 whole chicken per day, now imagine if you can please your chickens five each in about 20 outlets, that will equals 100 birds per day, that will also mean about 3000 birds per month. Now lets say you make about N800 profit from each bird, that will come to about N2.4 million/month. NOT sales just profit. Now if you will not be just a follower, think about the industry and package your product and be different. You can still make a killer in the broiler part of the business. Couple years ago, I ran into a lady that own two Mr. Bigs franchise in Lagos, and according to her, she sells 50 bird daily in each of her stores. Now this is just one client and just two outlets. You will be scrambling to meet her demand not to talk about trying to get more clients. So my friend the "field is white in all parts and ready to harvest" You just got to know how. Good luck. |
latestsunny: Abeg where is basking, hingsight and odas that startd ds forum?
