ZaddyJ:
shocked
What does the future holds for this two chaps in Nigeria where the jobs meant for them have been politicized by our politician whose relatives have no such background as the omoluabi twins?
It’s not about getting the first class and the best graduating student but getting into the right place is what matters. Except , they have connections otherwise
Which way Nigeria ?
They just have to find ways to manoeuvre their way and achieve success. Nigeria and its complicated corrupt systems, have ways of frustrating brilliant minds. I have seen it happened to the best of us. However, it is important to know that Nigeria and the world owes you nothing for graduating with first class. It is your responsibility to swim through the difficult tides and waves of life and come out.

Graduating with first class is different from being smart and intelligent. They need to know how to navigate through the competitive graduate labour markets, hustle for prestigious scholarships, eye for innovative thinking, networking and explore alternative career path in case of "incasity".
TravelRe: I Want To Relocate To Lagos by Focusmind: 2:35pm On Apr 10, 2025
nairaland is full of comedians! See comments grin

Let your uncle put you in his line of business, if it is a legit business.
Coming to Lagos to just hustle for factory job is not easy. The factory job may be located in a place far from where you are living
Transportation is a major expenses for most Lagosian. Also, be sure that the job is legit. Lots of scammers are on the prowl, looking for "magas" to chop. Non existing jobs are written on walls, on roads and pasted in market places, with the amount to be paid stated, asking one to call a certain number for the job - just beware. Lagos could be unforgiven to the newbies and uninformed
Let your uncle support you and guide you through. This is a culture among the Igbos that is being fast eroded. Uncles are no more behaving like uncle to their nephews and nieces. It was not like that before. Uncles were looked up to, especially the well -to-do and highly educated. The well-to-do uncle would take his brother's children and trained them in his trade and settle them, thus, sustaining the progress of the entire "umunna" kindred. Those in paid employment would help their nephews and nieces that have finished services, relocated to Lagos, with employment tips and vacancies. It is no more like that these days. Uncles sees their nephews as threat, especially, if their own children are not doing well. Everything now is competition in my place. The family bond and unity that once held sway, have been broken by the "enemy" and the entire kindred has disintegrated. angry
EducationRe: FG Stops Acting VCs, Rectors, Provosts From Contesting Substantive Positions by Focusmind: 10:01am On Apr 10, 2025
Good move!!!

Which means, if you are interested in any position on permanent basis, don't be tempted to accept that position in acting capacity. Once you occupy the position in acting capacity, you looses your rights to contest and occupy the same position on permanent basis. This should give a fair playing field to other contestants, both within and outside the organisation.
Foreign AffairsRe: Trump lowers reciprocal tariffs for 90 days, imposes 125% on China goods by Focusmind: 9:11pm On Apr 09, 2025
Gerrard59:
So what do you recommend China to do? Bend its knees to an entity that does not want to see China succeed? The Democrats imposed severe sanctions on its chip industry and EV industry. They banned Deepseek because it's cheaper than chatGPT. The aim is to strangle China's economic rise. So I ask, when did it become a crime for a country to excel economically? Why should the Chinese swallow their pride? I'm genuinely curious. This is not Canada, please.

The thing about acquiescing to a bully is that the bully gets to demand more. So to prevent that, don't accept the bullying. You fight back.
It is better to choose your fight wisely at any given time. China is currently enjoying a massive trade surplus over the US. In as much as US is trying to bully China, China should weigh its options and see if it is worth it, engaging in the fight, in the first instance. Can the Chinese economy be able to sustain the huge economic losses that may result because of this fight? There is no need being emotional. China should check the benefits and the advantages it gets because of its huge trade surplus with US and make some concessions, so that it doesn't result to unnecessary economic losses to its economy and entities.

I hope they will catch those korope and danfo guys that eat while driving. I entered korope from oando filling station in marina to VI and the driver was eating food and diluting it with coke. These are the people they should target and not private vehicles
Foreign AffairsRe: Trump lowers reciprocal tariffs for 90 days, imposes 125% on China goods by Focusmind: 7:28pm On Apr 09, 2025
China made a very big mistake in retaliating. There was no need fighting with Trump, knowing that China has been benefiting, disproportionately in her trade with US. Xi will put China into recession because of unnecessary fight. He should have swallowed his pride and allowed Trump be, so long China was still on top of international trade. You are fighting with your biggest trading partner, where you control 75% of trade between two of you. Xi no try at all. I forsee a 200% increase in coming weeks, as Xi try to match up with Trump's madness

See caption: "Bianca Ojukwu and daughter, represent first lady, Remi Tinubu. " Did the first lady asked both Bianca and her daughter to represent her? Why did she go with her daughter to an official government event? I hope she paid for her daughter's expenses for her to be there, except if she is based in the UK. We know how to abuse privileges as Nigerians. Probably, she is indirectly marketing her to the world

He can still win under the Nigerian legal technicalities. undecided If Soludo looses guard and Ezenwafo has a lawyer like Wole Olanipekun, there may be hope, as Wole may argue that Soludo was not properly nominated by his party; the second placed candidate, which may be the LP candidate, was not qualified to contest the election, having being a former convict; the third placed candidate, which may be APC, would be disqualified for going against one of the electoral laws. Then, PDP, candidate, as the likely candidate to come a distance 4th in the election, having scored the highest number of valid votes cast in the election, would be declared the winner.
PoliticsRe: Presidency To Ndume: Two Of Your Kinsmen Just Got Top Appointments In NNPC by Focusmind: 6:37pm On Apr 08, 2025
papyjaypaul:
It's a new low for the Presidency to go personal like this. Stay on the issue. The Presidency is an institution, not for politics but for governance.

Onanuga could have responded to Ndume on Twitter and Facebook with his personal account instead of using the Presidency to fight with a Senator, representing a Senatorial District of his people. Tinubu will leave the Presidency one day so we need to be careful how we use state institutions that will record every government correspondence for the future.
Mehn, extremely so low. I was shocked that other people didn't notice that goof you flagged. Imagine saying that "your kinsmen also got Jobs" in NNPC LTD in reply to Ndume? There are better ways to counter an opposition comments instead of engaging Ndume in a gutter fight. Bayo should do better, please. The Presidency is being messed up by the same people that were expected to uphold the integrity of the institution.

All the necessary gym materials and equipment are in my house. Go to warehouse, mile 2, and get quality tokunbo gym equipment of your choice. Sometimes, I do my gym in my room, completely naked, especially when doing yoga and without thoughts of anyone looking at me. There are lots of YouTube videos to guide you on any gym activities or fitness you want to achieve within the comfort of your home. However, going to gym offers that opportunity for socialisation and networking, if that's what you want. I love my privacy more than anything else.

PoliticsRe: Anambra 2025: Nicholas Ukachukwu wins APC Governorship Primary by Focusmind: 9:27am On Apr 06, 2025
ElevationD:
It was a very unnecessary move by Val Ozigbo to APC. As it stands presently, there are only very two formidable parties in Anambra state. They are APGA led by Soludo and LP led by Peter Obi. Val Ozigbo should have waited in LP. He probably thought that the then court case would be endless, with Abure refusing to vacate. That has been sorted and Ozigbo too has lost all round.

The last Presidential election saw Obi winning with a sweeping majority. The last minute pleadings and moves of Governor Soludo saved APGA from total annihilation at the state assembly elections, with APGA winning 17 seats, LP 8, PDP2 and YPP with the strength of Ifeanyi Ubah winning 3. Of the 11 seats in the House of Representatives LP has 6 while APGA has 4 and YPP 1. Look at the Senate and find 2 LP senators while YPP had 1. Do not forget that the late Ifeanyi Ubah abandoned YPP and decamped to APC, handing over the YPP seat to APC. From the calculations, the late Ifeanyi Ubah had done his job in Anambra south. Decamping to APC by Ifeanyi Ubah brought the party some hope. He had a way of connecting with his constituents, but now that’s all gone.

The only area to find APC is that same Anambra south because of Ubah. LP is all over, controlling large swaths of Anambra state. The image of Peter Obi looms large over that state. Soludo’s headache is not APC, but Peter Obi/LP. He has been accused of a sinister plan to use the new security outfit to win the next election. PDP is totally out of the equation, as the party has not found its feet in Anambra state. Soludo will have to find a way around Labour Party and Peter Obi. How can he uproot LP in Anambra north where Tony Nwoye easily swept Stella Oduah aside and made Anambra north an LP territory? Political heavyweights like Uche Ekwunife were completely silenced by the Obi Tsunami. The likes of Ngige do not have voices to raise, while Arthur Eze knows that his millions into APC Anambra state will not make sense. Obi reigns in Anambra state and he is the challenge they all face.

Now APC may be hoping, just like that last Presidential election, for LP to split votes with APGA, paving the way an APC victory. That will not work here in Anambra, as APC does not have the platform and followers. The state is presently dominated by APGA and Labour Party.

I think that Soludo has risen to the occasion, correcting himself in the recent times. His development footprints are found everywhere. It will be difficult to defeat him in Anambra south presently by APC or LP. He worked and is working everywhere.

By their unwritten agreements, Governors are able to develop their own Senatorial districts, when they are in the position of power. That’s why the position is rotated, so that development can go round. So I do not expect him to lose Anambra south to APC, which hid under Ifeanyi Ubah. Aguata, his own area particularly (that’s Soludo), which did not really follow him in the last election, has no reason to support another candidate, with the way the things are turning up there.

In all, Val Ozigbo miscalculated. Nicolas Ukachukwu knows that he will termed as the part of the “also ran” candidates. He knows that APC has no place in Anambra state.
You really understands Anambra politics. I earlier thought that the presence of Peter Obi would pose a threat to Soludo. But recent developments have endeared Soludo to lots of people. As at 2023, Soludo's reelection wasn't guaranteed, as lots of people had started calling him a one - term governor. But he has quickly turned the tides to his side and haulted the "obidients movement " tsunami. Obi's non challant attitude to labour party affairs have also made many people not to take LP serious. Even the elected members of State's assembly and national assembly aren't interested in LP. The party, LP, was just used by lots of members to win elections, riding off the back of the "obidients movement " of 2023. Obi, himself, has maintained a dignified silence in the governorship election, as he knew that any move he makes that would not result to electoral victory for his party, would be viewed negatively against him. He would rather sit on the fence and maintain neutrality than to campaign for a labour candidate and loose.
PoliticsRe: Anambra 2025: Nicholas Ukachukwu wins APC Governorship Primary by Focusmind: 7:02am On Apr 06, 2025
Ozigbo thought he was a big fish, as a former LP heavy weight, to be courted by APC, snapping pictures with Gandollar and other APC heavy weights. Nicolas Ukachukwu is a veteran governorship aspirant in Anambra, with many electoral defeats under his belt. The outcome of this year's election for him may not be different from the ones in the past. I think Soludo currently has the momentum, even among the supporters of the ruling federal government. They may accept with kindness, Soludo's victory, as he has never played a spoiler for Mr. President and the ruling party on anything.
PoliticsRe: Governor Soludo Wins APGA Anambra Gubernatorial Primary by Focusmind: 7:32pm On Apr 05, 2025
Peter Obi is in serious dilemma about this election. He knows that Soludo will win and he doesn't know if he should back the labour party candidate in the election. As usual, Obi, typically behaves like Buhari. Two men that are unconcerned about their parties. They are after their own political interests without given a thought about their parties. Buhari was so aloof that he did not know APC to the extent that he couldn't influence anything in APC until he left power. If Obi fails to deliver Anambra to his party, that would be used against him in the future by his adversaries

This shows the state of human capital development in Nigeria. The quality of humans in Nigeria is terribly low. Go to Oshodi and see how the magnificent and gigantic structure Ambodi built has been subjected to abuse by Agberos, homeless people, Abokis and all manners of human beings. Human development comes before infrastructural development. If you do the later before the former, the former will mess up the later as it doesn't understand the essence of the structure.
PoliticsRe: Hakeem Baba-Ahmed Resigns As Tinubu’s Political Adviser by Focusmind: 2:34pm On Apr 04, 2025
A typical Nigerian politician. You are criticizing the government you are part of. What stopped him since from resigning?

He made mistake to have accepted the appointment. Someone that was rooting for Atiku to win and stood on the fence for LP, as his younger brother was the running mate. Tinubu dangled the stick and he hung onto it, as if his life depended on it. Now, he is a spent force and Tinubu has discarded him. I wonder the mouth he would use to talk. Sometimes, it is better you preserve and maintain your integrity, if any, by not talking or associating with people or association that their views and ideologies are not consistent with yours. Tinubu should have fired him than given him the opportunity to resign.

My solar giving maximum output

Nothing compares to a solar that is working at an optimum installed capacity

If I open my freezer during hot afternoon, when the solar is at it peak, the freezing dew and "smoke" that the freezer emits cannot be compared to NEPA or Gen

Solar is a clean energy, as long as you have your inverter working optimally, Battery performing at its peak and the solar regulator doing the yeoman's job, you are good to go

I am on band A and we have up to 20 hour light. But I don't connect to NEPA during the day as I use my solar. I connect to NEPA around 1am at night to use my AC.
