Vo: why did you choose this school and how many schools did you apply also how many gave admission?
Me : I applied to 3 schools and the 3 gave admission
Me : I have chosen IGU for some reasons, firstly IGU offers some elective track courses which catches my interest and I know it would be of benefit to my career ( vo cut in..)
Vo: what relationship does the 3 schools has?
Me : (I was confused at first)...OK after when I had concluded on what to study, then I searched using Google to see schools offering this course. The I realised xyz school has information Science and ABC school has information Science, but IGU has information technology which I really wanted

Junera: No, I don’t have TOEFL, SAT OR GRE, admission to the school is in two category, with English Proficient and without Proficient, when you chose without, you will have to do the English course, and it is stated on the admission letter that when you finish, you will enter your course you applied for proper. So you feel that's a better choice. Instead of writing TOEFL @ $195, you want to spend millions of Naira doing English course? |

lasthero: hello house. please i want to ask.
while waiting for my I-20 that will arrive in 3 weeks time, what can i do at the background?
can i pay for SEVIS or pay for visa fee?
Also, i see most transcript here to have sponsors. in my own case, my savings and mutual fund investment covers my expenses for the first year($25k plus) and i have statement of account with genuine source to proof it. my I-20 also reflects personal funds. Hope i am good to go? You need your sevis no to pay your sevis fee. You can sponsor yourself but what about your second year? |

Junera: Good Morning Room!!! I got admitted to Utah Valley University, in Orem, Utah, and my interview is next week, but I applied with GRE or SAT, so I will be doing a compulsory one semester English course, and on my F1 English as a second language is there as the course, I am to study and not Biotechnology I applied for, but on my DS160, I wrote I will be studying Biotechnology because the English course is because I didn’t provide GRE or SAT, and holla at me if you’re also a UVU admit. We wish you goodluck! But you are not telling us the truth. You didn't provide TOEFL or you didn't meet the required score. A compulsory English course is not equivalent to GRE or SAT. You will need a compelling interview to convince your VO about your major not stated in your i-20 when asked. |

presiade: Thank you. I understand. I just got really perplexed on getting the rejection from UC earlier this morning. In my mind, I'm out of my present location, just here physically. The thought of waiting for another year is just unnerving. Take the TOEFL as advised. If you have taken an IELTS before with a band 7.5/8 as you said, then TOEFL shouldn't be a hassle. |

presiade: Did you read my post well? I applied to 5 different top schools and 4 already rejected before seeking people who know for sure (based on real US admission experience) schools that will admit. If you don't have anything to say, just pass. I check those sites more than you do. But you didn't say the other schools. may be someone is interested in that to guide you. |

Why? so you don't trust anything Naija? @ bold I don't think disaster can be prevented but can be minimized. |

Time2Smile: How will He explain that his relative is ready to foot the bill for his wife to eat and sleep in the United States. Remember the wife is not allowed to work to repay the money. This is not an investment in the students future. It is better he sticks to his personal fund else he will have a hard time convincing the VO. My two cents. How will he explain his relative as sponsor on his i20 when asked? You can advise him. |

ImpactLife: Good day fellows. Please, i have two VERY IMPORTANT QUESTIONS AND I WILL NEED YOUR HELP ASAP.
(1) I got a full phd funding and i planned going with my wife, but was told to provide prove for her funding. In the initial stage, i got the support from a relative which i sent to the school in order to have her i20 prepared. Therefore, the source of her funding on the i20 is my relative (but the person's name did not appear). However, i now have enough cash in my account to sponsor her. When asked at the VISA interview about her sponsorship, is it advisable i make use of my own account statement or i stick to that of my relative?
(2) Is it possible to use a fixed deposit account (fixed for 3 months and will mature before the start of my programme) as a prove of financial sponsorship?
I will be glad to get responses to this questions ASAP.
Thank you. You can use both: your relative and your personal savings. Meanwhile she will also be interviewed separately. 2. Yes, with documented evidence and convincing explanations. |

hilaryxoxo: The TOEFL is a very very very easy exam - especially for native English speakers. I am sure you’re done with secondary school, where you studied English as a subject for 6 years. Im also sure you’ve spoken English for over 20 years (assuming you’re above 20 and have been speaking English since birth).
So what is difficult in an exam that just wants to test our ability to use English? - The reason people fail or do below their expectations is: (1) Inadequate preparation (2) Inadequate practice
Based on my experience, I'd make recommendations based the little things I did that worked for me and also based on the things I wish I did that I didn't do.
1. Notefull videos: I watched all the free videos on their website here https://www.notefull.com/content.php?pgID=575 all you need to do is to complete all the video lessons there. It is very very short. you can actually finish it in 4 hours. just take note of all the tips and tricks and templates!!!!!!!!!!
2. After completing all the notefull videos, go straight to practicing. PRACTICE LIKE HELL! The software I used to practice was the Official Guide (Interactive Software) which you can find here http://www.gregmattoeflnigeria.com/resources/TOEFL_PC.exe and the TOEFL sampler which you can find here http://www.gregmattoeflnigeria.com/resources/TOEFL_Sampler.exe
3. Once you're done exhausting all those practice materials, you are good to go - trust me. MAKE SURE YOU PRACTICE SPEAKING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND DONT FORGET THE SPEAKING TEMPLATES THAT YOU'D LEARN FROM NOTEFULL!
If you still have more time and you want to practice more, you can use this free TOEFL online course that you can find here https://www.edx.org/course/toeflr-test-preparation-insiders-guide-etsx-toeflx-4 (mind you, this course was put together by ETS - the makers of the TOEFL exam). You can also practice with some of these other Free Test Preparation Resources on the ETS website that you can find here https://www.ets.org/toefl/ibt/prepare and you can also use Barron (I have heard good things about it) Unfortunately, he is not a native speaker. YES, TOEFL is easy when you know the tricks and strategies. That you have a degree in English does not mean you will have a high score in TOEFL. I have seen people with MA English that couldn't score 79 in TOEFL or band 7 in IELTS. If you don't prepare you will surely fail. |

NiklausAkins: hello nairalanders. My interview is very near, this month.. My Parents are my sponsor, but on my DS160, i put my Mums name there, since am going with her bank statement. If am asked by the VO who my sponsor is, and i say "My parents" will there be an issue. Or i should say my Mum straight. Your mum is no longer your parent? |

daprince5898: Again, I was also seeing it from angle that I have been there twice, and maybe might not be a good one to continue on the track, and scoring the same score. Please I need convincing and assurance on this take of TOEFL again. While there is no harm if you want to try the IELTS, when you practice one full practice of IELTS, you will come back here to tell me it's true. Check @femi312 posts for TOEFL material. Did you prepare at all for the two you wrote? As it's, you need someone to guide you whichever one you want to write. @bold, nobody can assure you because we don't know your potentials. I have seen high school students scoring 120/120 and above 100. |
