The shiite protesters were not peaceful with their procession. They had weapons and were about to attack COAS even after the army chief appeal to them to allow him pass.
They got what they deserve. Sorry for the lost souls |

I dont have such calmness to beg some ragtags loke the army chief did.
This js government road and i am entitled to use it like every other person.
Seeing those guys wielding weapons in my face, I will order they should shot at.
The COAS is too soft. Kill as many as possible and send a strond signal this is not a kid play where you can confront your village head with cutlass |

Hitler attacked former USSR not because they fired the first shot, but because he (Hitler) believed that if he didn't attack them first they will attack him. These miscreants had weapon on them too. Theses is a security threat and the soldiers wknt watch doing nothing till after the rampaging animals do their worst. |

gists: That is not an excuse for the soldier to shoot unarmed civilians!! Damn what are we in this country!! I completely condemn the people for their stup!d acts but it does not justify shooting unarmed civilians. Would you be happy for the army to shoot people blocking the road because of burial ceremony? Granted they were silly to block the road but is that why you should wipe them off? Blocking the road is illegal enough. But the fact you refuse to address is that these sects member had weapons on them. They had bow and arrows, machetes, clubs and sticks and this is a security threat which the army have no other option than to respond to. What were they doing with those weapons? Some are even covering their face amd wrre about to attack the army. I hope you wont give a rampaging miscreants chances to attack you first while you stand and watch |

jakiedudu: In Military rules of engagement, they are permitted to protect themselves in face of attack ''Only when the attacker fired the first shot''. Did the shiites fired the first shot Were there military casualties in the form of injury or even dead as a result of shots fired by the would be attackers No. The best form of defence is an attack. |

jakiedudu: Yes they may have stones, sticks and clubs but that is not enough reason to shoot them. The military should have maintain their positions and call the police to clear the road. Instead they choose to take matters into their hands as usual. As a matter of fact, the claim by the army that the shiites were planning to assasinate the COAS is a lie to justify the killing of shiites members. Call police for what? Bows and arrows, machetes and stick can displaced a whole nation. You mean the army should watch the miscreants without doing anything than to call police? What if this animals attack them and their convoy? They should call police too? |

PassingShot: Well, from what I've read so far, the procession were bent on denying access to the military convoy which had COAS in it. The clip on YouTube shows that the military prevailed unsuccessfully on the sect to all the convoy to pass but all pleas were rebuffed. In such situation, it's an affront on the convoy hence it termed it an assassination attempt.
Killing of unarmed citizens can NEVER be justified on any ground but civilians should understand that Nigerian soldiers are like zombies. They hardly think things through before acting.
May the soul of those dead find peace in paradise. I hate seeing unarmed citizens abeg. What do you call Machete, bow and arrow, stones, sticks and clubs? Are these baby toys? One need to wonder why these miscreants kept these weapons in the first place. They quickly brought out their possessions and rounded the army up. A look at the released video shows the army formed a formation after their appeal was rejected. These men are battle ready force and will always respond to security threat with full force. The sect wielded weapons and you dont expect the army to watch them till they are attacked first. The best form of defence is attack. The soldiers were defending their convoy and did a good job |

Dannyset: I don't care what the NA want to use in defence of this act, it is totally barbaric and uncalled for. It should be condemned and investigated. You don't open fire at civilian just like that. Even in wars, it's not done that way. I am totally against this, and I think the President need to address it. The civilians are bloody animals wielding dangerous weapon in the face of thr gallant army. What were they about to do with cutlass, bow and arrows, club and stick? The army had no other option after pleading to the protesters and rounded with option than to defend their convoy and chief. Attack is the best of defence. You wouldnt watch some msicreants to do their worst before you defend your side. |

Sunni-inspired is running amok all over the NE and you still accuse the Sahi'a as a violent sect. Show me the weapons your thuggisn armt recovered from the Shi'a at Zaria after the incidence Blocking the highway is against the law. This soldiers are there to defend the territory. And they were rounded with sticks, clubs, cutlass and very deadly weapons. These soldiers have no other option than to open fire on the animals. They are gallant bayyle ready force and not civil defence that would part you in the back for threatening the security of the stte. Mind you, they have done their best by pleading to the protesters to allow them pass for more than 30mins. They have acted diplomatically and given respect to the sect but such was not gievn to them. They wont have to wait either for some animals to attack them with deadly weapons first. So the had to defend themselves by attacking thr animals |

jakiedudu: That's why Nigeria's military establsihment must be humane and civil when dealing with civil matters. You can't go about shooting unarmed people in the name of they refused to give way to COAS. Of couse some people will be very unrully and stuborn to authorities, which is why the police is there to handle civil matters and maintain law and order. What the military on that day should have done is call the police. They should have reported the development to the police cause they are enpowered by law to maintain law and order. Am sure you must have seen videos of violent confrontations between civilians and the police in other parts of the world. I have seen very violent confrontations were people were seen on video throwing rocks and firebombs at police but the police never retaliated with firearms. They just maintain their positions with their shields to prevent injury on themselves while other personel spray tear gas on the violent people. That is standard practice worldwide. You dont use fire arms on people on the excuse that they were unrully and stuborn to give way. What is more important to the COAS than human life Mr Stop telling us those miscreants are unarmed. They had stone, sticks, machete, bow and arrow which are weapons. These animals were battle ready and likely trying to create or erupt violence. Have you watched the video released by the arm force? |

An army chief was begging some ragtag to allow him and his convoy pass and was rounded with sticks, stones bow and arrows, club and deadly weapons. Are the miscreants wielding weapons you call harmless citizen? Do they keep those weapons thrre in the first place to attack citizens of the country? One of them was even weilding cutlass. This signal security threats and the soldiers have no other option than to defned themselves. Note, the greatest form of defence is attack |

gists: First of all, I am a muslim. But this nonesense of road blocks must stop!! And by that I mean all forms of road blocks - be it from muslim community, christians, politicians, individual birthday/burial parties etc Why on earth should roads be blocked on Nigerian Government officials. Truth be told it is just insane impunity and lawlessness.
HOWEVER, the army is just too crazy!! At the begining of the video, it took the army leader to shout at one of the soldiers not to shoot! Can you imagine a soldier trying to kneel down to take position to fire at harmless civilians - Thank God they were led by a sensible chief.
I have made my opinion known on this issue and this video just confirmed it The soldiers are supposed to be battle ready and always ready to defend Nigeria territory. No one know exactly how this started. But believe me, this soldiers would have firstly approached them even before tbis video was shot. Remember the pictures Ibnsultan released. The Army chief was with the protesting youth pleading for pass. The picture reveal some pleas were made and the protesters rejected the plea. This rises to soldiers forming wall. A look at the beginning of the video shows that the soldiers formed a wall protecting their convoy. This video is indeed showing second attempt by the soldiers to plea to the protesters. The soldiers have done their best and are nowhere to be blame here. This protesters had on them weapons and are ready to attack. Think about it. If these gallant men were posted to defend you, will you be happy if some miscreants block your way and threatened you with stick, clubs, bow and arrow while your soldiers watch without doing anything. These nuisance even have cutlass with them. This is enough threat signal and enough reason for attack. The best form of defence is attack. I think they did a great job there |
