Ilorin is a city. It's a budding one at that. However, have you seen the rest of Kwara? I work at Oro so I can categorically tell you that Kwara State is a poor state and that Ilorin is its only hope. Coming next but nowhere near is Offa.

Oga don't digress, the op said "best place" and not "best state". Am referring to Towns, cities and not a state. All states have under developed Arras outside the capital. Am simply referring to the word "place"and not the state as a whole. Even in American state you have the country side so let's not mix it up, we are talking places and not poor or rich states.

Show me a place in Nigeria that does not have 'cultism issues'/backwards cultural practices?

Isn't Ilorin a town plagued by Fulani herdsmen and their killing?

Isn't Kwara the most poverty stricken state in the south?

Calabar does not have security issues and Uyo is significantly safer than many places in Nigeria.

Lol did you say poverty? Okay let's look at it from a business perspective. Do you think these brands such as KFC and SHOPRITE will open up shop in a poverty stricken town? You think they don't have experts with years of experience who conducted feasibility studies before giving the nod to their superiors to open up shop? A town that is poverty stricken have banks at virtually every turn. Gtb has no less than 4 branches from Ibrahim taiwo to tanke i guess they store paper there and oh how is it possible that all the banks have am average of 5atm machines outside like it's some competition? I didn't give my reviews to talk any state, town or city down. Just reporting it as it is and for your info I lived in cali, IBB way to be precise.

Most of the places i have spoken of i lived there and the fewplaces i didn't live in i researched with people on ground. I think i should open a consulting Firm lol.

Cultism is everywhere.
And I hadn't experienced security issues in Owerri.
The security network in Imo is quite effective and formidable.
Chief you can't say cultism is everywhere like they are all on a constant level. I have lived in no less than 10 states in this country and i can tell you some places don't even know what u talking about when u say cultism but in other states it's the order of the day. A 7 year old boy you ridicule in such cult ridden states can arrange your drilling with just one phone call. Am not exaggerating.

I agree with you 100%. I have been on ground since December and i confirm all you just said. There are schools, high institutions, night Life, Airforce base, naval base, airport, stadium, a huge mall with poplar brands like KFC, SHOPRITE to name a few, a fly over bridge, cinema, hospitals, this is the much i have seen so far. Visited offa too.

EITHER Calabar

The people are civil.

It's clean.

Good infrastructure.

Good golf course (another one on the way, Summit Hills).

Marina is a great place for relaxation and entertainment.

Good restaurants everywhere.

Cost of living is decent.

OR Uyo

Great infrastructure and more to come (excellent roads, underground storm drains).

Business is expanding to take advantage of the infrastructure.

Best golf course on the continent.

A selection of good relaxation spots - good restaurants, hotels and bars.

Cheap cinema (and it's clean, unlike some in Lagos).

Both of em got security and cultism issues. When you plan on relocating to a place to settle down consider the kind of environment your kids will be exposed to. Buy if i didn't pick ilorin i would have picked uyo. This past election is another good scale to judge security of various states with.

Everything is there: Quiet, Food and Fun.

Security is bad, cultism is growing by the day.

Calabar. I'm not from calabar or south south but believe me, calabar rocks.
No hold up, nice places to hang out, nice environment especially if you are retired or want to read....For newly wed, honeymoon in calabar is the best infact your wife will take in fast fast because better environment follow...lol if i dont go abroad for my HM when the time comes, then calabar will be a sure beat....Cali rocks

And when cult riot starts? Or when the bad eggs of unical go into town to rob our kidnap? What about the rival gang crises that's popular in Marian the popular area in calabar. I have lived there for more than a year so bros check ur analysis well.

Let me see, i dropped calabar and uyo because of cultism, dropped ijebu because of power and infrastructure, dropped benue state because of infrastructure, flooding and HIV(no disrespect intended), dropped didn't have anyone on ground in Asaba, dropped Enugu because of it's proximity to the hot spots, cultism and security (trust me i did my homework). Had no complains about Kwara except for lack of jobs and like i said before i work online so i can live anywhere as long as there is internet and gtb to withdraw my cash. Ilorin got almost all you can ask for in most most Nigerian cities for less.

This thread is for those that intend to settle down in other states or localities in the country. Most people usually have a phobia for moving from their home or locality because they do not know what they will see when they do. This post is thus fashioned to enlighten those that haven't travelled around the country and may not be able to yet they need to know what obtains pertaining the quality of life in other places.
If you are well travelled, you may contribute to this thread by highlighting those places you think are the best places to live in this country. In your consideration, take note of cost of living, beauty of the place, population of the place, development, the government there and the indigent people that stay there. You may choose to present only one place or more than one place but make sure it is in Nigeria.

Just relocated from Ph to ilorin after 6 months of research and consultations looking for the perfect environment to start a family and retire a farmer. I had calabar, eket, uyo, asaba, ijebu ode, ile ife and makurdi in mind and after intensive research and consultations with residents i settled for ilorin. Notice none of the places i listed are mega cities yes cos i know myself, not a fan of urban noise, over populated places, i like me some peace and quiet without sacrificing those things i would get in mega cities like ph, Kano and Lagos.
Came to Kwara state last year for a one year feasibility study and i must tell you so far i have no regrets. Enough sites to start a farm, religious tolerance, good location on the Nigerian map (not far north, not down south), close to the to the capital Abuja, security is good, I no dey find work so can't say much about that, that's the beauty of fx trading but it's pretty much a civil servant state tho, well am still researching.

Politics / Re: Senate Presidency- Buhari States Position by FOREXMARTS: 7:47pm On Apr 25, 2015
Lekmusic:
As the 7th Senate winds up ahead of the inauguration of the 8th Senate on June 4, the upper legislative chambers is at the moment caught up in a high-level of intrigues, horse-trading and lobbying, backstabbing, in a bid to outwit one another or zone on who becomes the next president of the Senate.

However, this was even as facts have emerged that the President- elect, Major General Muhammadu Buhari, rtd, is not willing to support any Senator or member of the House of Representatives who has had or still has any corruption case or matter with the anti-corruption agencies or police for the leadership position in the National Assembly.
Also President Goodluck Jonathan and the President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari met Friday in the Villa.

President GoodLUCK Jonathan, President Elect General Muhammadu Buhari accompanoied by the APC National Chairman Chief John Odigie Oyegun at the President. APR 25 2015
Buhari, it was gathered is said to be uncomfortable with most of the aspirants currently fighting for the National Assembly, as they have one case or the other to answer with the anti- corruption agencies especially the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

Apart from corruption, the president-elect was also said not be interested in working with those alleged to have links with insurgents like Boko Haram.

It was not known which zone would produce the Senate Presidency but sources said yesterday in Abuja that the Senator Bola Tinubu bloc in the All Progressives Congress, APC, was allegedly working to ensure that the former governor of Benue State, Senator George Akume, emerged. The party had already zoned the position to North Central.

The search for who heads the Senate would have been sealed if Senator Chris Ngige from Anambra State had won the election as the position would have just gone to South East geo- political zone of the country without any stress.

Saturday Vanguard gathered that the Tinubu group was backing Akume for the singular reason that the former governor of Benue State is the oldest in the opposition camp who came to the Senate on the platform of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, thereby making the party popular in his area.

The North East geopolitical zone of the country also angled for the position of the Senate President saying that such position would placate them after Boko Haram insurgency ravaged the zone. The zone also argued that it produced the second highest number of votes after the North West, for the APC, adding that with this singular contribution to the success of the party, the position of Senate President should go to them. But they have to succumb to party decision Thursday morning that zoned the seat to North Central. .

As the race for the position begins, Senators Bukola Saraki, Kwara Central; Senator George Akume from Benue; Senator Abdullahi Adamu of Nasarawa State; Senator Danjuma Goje of Gombe State; Senator Ali Ndume from Borno State, among others are said to be interested in occupying the position of Senate President.
Only one or two of the candidates jostling for the Senate President had no case with the EFCC. One even has a Boko Haram related case in court.

It was learnt that Buhari would want to respect the independence of the National Assembly. However, he would not want to support any one who has had a graft case in order to enable him have a clean break from the past and pursue his anti- corruption stance to the letter.
“The President-elect respects the rule of law and would not want to meddle into the politics of the National Assembly but he is not comfortable with any one who has or has had a corruption case being the Senate President,” a top party source said Friday.
Interestingly, of all the aspirants into the Senate Presidency, one of the two said to be very transparent has questions about his social life.

The aspirant was said to have a lot of things going in his favour except his drinking habit, even as he was alleged to have undergone some transformation in his behaviour and thus could prove his critics wrong.
Those working for this particular aspirant told Saturday Vanguard that ‘’a personal habit which may affect an individual character is better and manageable than an alleged corrupt person.’’
The change in the position of the Senate President and other leadership positions had became imminent following the woeful defeat of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, by the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC.

Politics / Re: Buhari Inauguration Committee: The "Credible" Members by FOREXMARTS: 7:30pm On Apr 24, 2015
barcanista:
President-elect Muhammadu Buhari over the years has promised to appoint credible Nigerians into his cabinet. In fact, he is expected to come on board with fresh ideas and technocrats to help achieve his promises. However, a look at his Presidential Inauguration Committee gives one cause to question whether some of the members could really effect change that Buhari preaches. They are...

1. Timpre Sylva- Chairman Buhari Inauguration Committee

In February 2012, EFCC instituted lawsuit against Timpre Sylva for N5billion money laundering charge. Sylva fled Bayelsa state shortly after being sacked from Bayelsa state Government House by the Supreme

court. Corruption charges against him was filed in absentia.

saharareporters.com/2012/02/24/efcc-slams-money-laundering-charges-against-former-bayelsa-governor-timipre-sylva

May 2013: EFCC arrested and detained exGov Timpre Sylva for corruption charges that runs into N48billion. In fact, when the EFCC operatives swooped on Sylva's house,

his aides told them that Sylva was away, while he was inside. In the words of EFCC Source(as reported by Vanguard)

“Ironically, the ex-governor, who was said to be out of town, was later found hiding in a dingy corner in the upper chamber of his expansive mansion.

“He was immediately whisked away and is currently being interrogated at the Abuja headquarters of the anti- graft agency,”
.

Sylva had earlier been on the run in his bid to evade arrest.

2. Kawu Baraje, Member Buhari Inauguration Committee

He was a Former National Secretary of the PDP and a founding member of the party. He served as Chairman, Nigeria Railway Corporation. On November 2013 the Board of NRC passed vote of no confidence on Baraje for his "“inability or refusal” to convene board meetings, as statutorily prescribed, had stalled progress of the board in the discharge of its duties.” Though he eventually resigned voluntarily, he never denied nor refuted the allegation against him.

3. John Shagaya, Member Buhari Inauguration Committee

A retired Army General that served as the Internal Affairs Minister under IBB administration. He was also a member He was a Senator under PDP platform between 2007 and 2011. During the Military era, he was a core "IBB" boy and he declared at one time that "he was proud to be called IBB boy" at his 66th birthday. Shagaya also participated in the 1966 counter coup

saharareporters.com/2009/03/20/ibb-boy-john-shagaya

4. Babagana Kingibe, Member Buhari Inauguration Committee

He was the running mate to Chief MKO Abiola during the 1993 Presidential election that was annuled by IBB. Kingibe later turned his back against Abiola to join the Abacha's regime at a time when Abiola was fighting for his mandate. He was rewarded with Ministery of Foreign Affairs and later that of Internal Affairs . He was also appointed Secretary to the Government by late Musa Yaradua in June 2007, but was fired barely one year later for disloyalty to the government. Tribune Newspaper had reported that Kingibe had said in 2008 that "in the event that the president could not continue in office, power should not be handed over to Jonathan" as he insisted that a Northerner should act as president

http://www.tribune.com.ng/09092008/news/news1.html

5. Alhaji Babachir Lawal,Member Buhari Inauguration Committee

He is the National Vice Chairman (North East) of the APC. He shamelessly condemned the impeachment proceeding against exGov Murtala Nyako that bothers on corruption rather than address the allegation against the exGovernor. In fact he said impeaching Nyako will mean plunging the state into a state of utter despair instead of challenging the exGovernor to respond to the allegations of corruption against him. The Impeached exGovernor has been on the run since the day of his impeachment(to evade justice)

The current manifesto hasn't even started living, hasn't been tested and we talking modifications already? Why didn't they open it to Nigerians for scrutiny after creating it before elections. If we are modifying the manifesto every now and then it's useless. It would have been a good statement if he said something like "we will have a review period once every year to update and upgrade party manifesto to better serve Nigerians and it will be open for contributions to all Nigerians from all works of Life", this is just an example but that's progressive. What he just said is similar to what idi amin said, compare them.

1 Freedom of speech is guaranteed but freedom after speech is not.(Amin)

2. Manifesto before election is guaranteed but manifesto after election is not (Buhari)
