Oasis007:That is why I said people here are not interested in picking the right personnels to represent the country based on merit and performance. Dele Aiyenugba is not good to many here because of where he comes from and not based on his ability and club form. Recently, I saw an article that suggested Austin Ejide who is currently a free agent should be brought back to the national team ahead of Aiyenugba but most of those monikers never critized that move. why? I am seeing the signs that Austin Ejide is likely to be called back into the SE because these days the media is portraying him as one who is with a club and later as one who will soon get a club. Did I not say Ezenwa is a pregnant cat before he was tested and found wanting before some people called forfor my head? Why do they still prefer Ezenwa ahead of Ajiboye who just helped Pleatue United to win the NPPL this season? Is it because he was part of the team that helped us to Russia and needed to be compensated despite poor performance lately? Why couldn't they put that into consideration despite Awoniyi's contributions to help us qualify for the Olympics? Why were those monikers hell bent that he must not make the team because he performed woefully prior to the Olympic? Why is Ezenwa case different? Now, you brought up Dele Alampasu case. If Uzoho is a first team player at his club and Dele Alampasu is playing in division 3, what could have been the argument? Will they maintain their stance or shift goal post? If they say Uzoho is ahead under the condition he plays regularly in division 3 but discard Dele Alampasu under the condition that his performance against Porto fc was 2 years ago and therefore passed, under what condition do they want Iheanacho ahead of any player in the team despite his performance these past two seasons? Why do dey suggest Ahmed Musa must be dropped for Onyekuru because he lacks game time but insist Iheanacho must make the team despite he is in the same boat? ( the fact is I also want Iheanacho in the team) One lied Dele Alampasu loan move was a failure because he presumed he was not impressive but since I demanded cogent fact from an independent unbiased source from him, he is nowhere to be found? People are blind to know that Ighalo, Mikel and Martins are all playing in China? They said Martins is old but how old are they (Mikel &Ighalo)? Mikel (30) & Ighalo (28) and they will be 31 and 29 during the WC. They said we don't need old players because we are building a team for 2022 WC. How old will Mikel and Ighalo be in 2022? Don't they know Mikel and Ighalo will be 35 and 33 years of age prior to that 2022 WC? ![]() Will they maintain their stances against Mikel and Ighalo from joint the team due to old age? Oh! Mikel and Ighalo are better than Obafemi Martin because Mikel played at the highest level and he is more talented than Martins? How many leagues and FA cup has Martins not won without playing part in them and without man of the match performance which went not unnoticed by FIFA? Do they know this 'useless' Martins was nominated for FIFA award? Has Mikel Obi been acknowledged or recognised with such FIFA nomination? Critical analyses devoid of emotives and sentiments should be the acceptable norms when analysing football and other issues. |
Pep Guardiola Pleased With Nigerian Defender : Everyone Saw He's A Talented Player Published: December 07, 2017 Pep Guardiola Pleased With Nigerian Defender : Everyone Saw He's A Talented Player Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola was pleased with the contribution of Manchester-born Nigerian defender Tosin Adarabioyo despite his side losing 2-1 to FC Shakhtar Donetsk in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday night. The promising central defender started on the right side of a three-man central defense and was impressive in a full shift, in what was only his sixth competitive game for the first-team of the Citizens. ''But we fought, and I’m so pleased for Tosin, Brahim and Phil for how well they played in the Champions League against a really good team in Shakhtar Donetsk,'' Guardiola told mancity.com ''They are resilient and talented players and the people saw it. We came here to win, we couldn’t, but we were there until the end to trying to do so. ''We were helped by Fernandinho in our build up because Tosin and Mangala have other qualities from that and we created good spaces outside because they defend really well. I’m pleased and happy for the performance.'' The 20-year-old Adarabioyo has been on the books of Manchester City for fifteen years. Napoleon55:Stick to football and critical analyses of the game. |
Oasis007:When Solanke and Tiago Ilori were playing with e U23, many monikers here crucified them without trying to know or accept the reasons but now that Iheanacho is playing with the U21 suddenly their thinking faculty started functioning. Why? Should I throway reasoning and go the tribal way by calling people here IPOB agent because I suppose majority of those monikers are IGBOs eventhough I know who dey are? Should I start mocking Iheanacho the way people mocked players that are not from their village and start wishing them ill luck? Should i start insinuating that some people wants to fill the national team with their tribes men regardless of were these players play and how they performan because they are quick to set standards and relax standards to accommodate their tribes men into the national team? Because I still remembered one of those monikers told me Tiago Ilori was not good enough despite playing currently then in Ligue 1 but suddenly made a uturn when a player started playing there? Can dey not see that majority of predictions and analyses have come to pass? Didn't I say Solanke is a better player than Iheancho when he was loaned out to Vitesee Was I not the one that called him a tap in merchant? Did I not give my reasons when I said if he goes to Vitesee or another club he will find it hard to score? Is that not what is happening now? Has Solanke not gone ahead of him recently to win individual laurel that led him to Liverpool? Did I not say the same about Kayode when one told me he is not good enough? Did I not predict that Kayode is ahead of Onyekuru when many here mocked me and asked me why is big clubs struggling to buy Kayode if he is good enough after Everton bought Onyekuru? What happened next? Who is in a better club now? Time will not permit to say how I analysed that Dele Ali is better than all players in our national team, including Nacho and Iwobi. That was even when Dele Ali was nobody in the EPL. But what did I get in return? Did it not happened as I said? Now, I have said about Lookman and Onomah but they said Onomah is a camouflage that I am a Oduduwa Agent and Igbo (God bless) hater for doing what God has given me to do. ![]() If they can't believe me as a person, they should for once consider all my predictions and analyses then I believe they can see I say things the way I study them. Now, Lookman has just shown tips of what he can do. Believe me he is another next thing after Dele Ali. I am no God but I have the spirit of God and fear God else I would not have taken lightly those who falsely accuses me of tribal hates and tribalism when all I have said dey glaringly for day light, but I am humble because I know it is by his grace to know and reveal all I have predicted and analysed. People should purge their heart of ethnic hatred and jealousy because I perceived many walk with this evil spirit. Thank you all |
Mujtahida:But thegoodjoe thinks otherwise. Pls, tell him. |
TheGoodJoe:List 5 of them and the role they can play. Definitely Iheanacho is not among. |
BascoVanVeli:I am making my points with facts. Nothing like discredit here. Or should I just pretend as if i no know the truth. How come you did not ask questions when people discredited Martins and Kayode without given a cogent fact, huh? |
Kog45:If you follow the discussion, some people told me we don't need a traditional striker when it is glaring we play 4-2-3-1 formation that demands a traditional striker. Now, out of the players you mentioned Vicmo, Simon and Onyekuru are outside forwards or wingers which is also part of forward but they are not CFs, while Iheanacho type of forward is SS. He can't play the outside forward and CF. Gbam. The only player that can play CF is Kayode. This is why Guardiola placed a personal call to get him on man city's book. Against Argentina, we played a different formation and the coach used two forwards. They were false 9 in that 3-5-2 formation. That is what Iwobi and Iheanacho loves doing. Rohr is trying to find a place for Iheanacho because he realized Iheanacho can't play the traditional strike role in our 4-2-3-1 formation hence the reason he tried him on the wing and later paird him with Iwobi in 3-5-2 formation. But i don't think we will use only one formation hence the need to have a traditional strike and CF in the team. If we want to go far in the WC else we will get stucked when teams decode our one way pattern of play. That's if we stick with just one formation which is typical with African teams. Rashidi Yekini scored a goal and provided 2 assists. One was from the flank. |
TheGoodJoe:Which Iheanacho? Iheanacho doesn't have. You can deceive the mumus not me. |
TheGoodJoe:The club does not want Iheanacho to go but they had to respect Guardiol's decision hence the need for Man city to play safe should incase Guardiola fails and moves on. |
TheGoodJoe:We are talking about modern CF not versatile players. In this case, we don't have. |
FabioPeter:Enyeama is not clubless. |
TheGoodJoe:We don't evem have a modern CF neither do we have a prolific traditional striker in the national team. |
TheGoodJoe:Guardiola never wanted Iheanacho again hence his request to sell him outrightly, instead of keeping him or sending him on loan. Left to Iheanacho, he wanted to stay and fight for Shirt but it was Guardiola's decision to let him go. The point is, Guardiola didn't consider Iheanacho good enough as a modern forward hence the need to let him go. EOD |
Chrismario:But he was nominated. Gbam |
TheGoodJoe:Now, you are talking and I agree with you 100%. This is why we have to look for CFs of both modern and traditional point man in our team. Finito finally. |
TheGoodJoe:He is not good enough for Man city CF? Simple |
Chrismario:Sir, do you know the difference between nominated and won? Did Ademola play for another EPL team before he joined Everton? Or you don't know the meaning of EPL? |
TheGoodJoe:Do I agree there is modern day CF and traditional point man? Yes. Which one are we using in our own national team? That is my interest and not how Man city and Napoli play with CF or forwards. Iheanacho was in Man city that plays the modern day forward but why was he sold off if he could play the modern day forward? Simple, he can't play both. |
Humility017:If Ademola Lukeman is not talented, why was he nominated for EPL young player of the year even ahead of Iheanacho and Ndid? Do you rate Onyekuru highly than Iheanacho and Ndidi? ![]() Do you want to compare the talents available for selection in the English team with Nigeria? How many Kane, Dele Ali, Rashford, etc do you have? Most of our players might likely not make England team D. ![]() If Ademola comes to the national team now, he might likely bench some players. ![]() |
TheGoodJoe:Did you read 'traditional or Modern' in the whole encyclopedia? I am referring to modern day football and also the traditional point man. Or is that not what you read up there? My point still remains the same. However, do you want to deny the fact that, how the CF plays depends on the formation and tactics of a team? We are not talking about how Barcelona or Man city play here or the versatility of a player, we are talking about the Nigerian national team and the way we play. Based on this, Iheanacho has been found wanting on that role for the national team and even Man city who plays modern day CF under Guardiola has also found him wanting else Gabriel Jesus would not have been a necessary buy if Guardiola thinks the available Iheanacho is capable for the so called Modern day CF but unfortunately Guardiola sold him off. So, on both front iheanacho doesn't fit into both the traditional and Modern day CF. That explains why dey are trying to play him on the flanks which I also think will backfire because he does not seems to have the skills and other needed ability to play wide. Now, did you get my points? |
FORWARD The forward (10, red) is past the defence (16, white) and is about to take a shot at the goal. The goalkeeper will attempt to stop the forward from scoring a goal by preventing the ball from passing the goal line. Forwards are the players on an association football team who play nearest to the opposing team's goal, and are therefore most responsible for scoring goals. Their advanced position and limited defensive responsibilities mean forwards normally score more goals on behalf of their team than other players. Modern team formations generally include one to three forwards; for example, the common 4–2–3–1 formation includes one forward.[1] Unconventional formations may include more than three forwards, or none.[2][3] Centre-forward The traditional role of a centre-forward is to score the majority of goals on behalf of the team. The player may also be used to win long balls or receive passes and retain possession of the ball with their back to goal as teammates advance, in order to provide depth for their team or help teammates score by providing a pass ('through ball' into the box); the latter variation usually requiring quicker pace and good movement. Most modern centre-forwards operate in front of the second strikers or central attacking midfielders, and do the majority of the ball handling outside the box. The present role of centre-forward is sometimes interchangeable with that of an attacking midfielder, especially in the 4–3–1–2 or 4–1–2–1–2 formations. The term "target man" is often used to describe a particular type of striker whose main role is to win high balls in the air and create chances for other members of the team (not necessarily scoring many goals themselves).[4] These players are usually tall and physically strong, being adept at heading the ball. The term centre-forward is taken from the early football playing formation in which there were five forward players: two outside forwards, two inside forwards, and one centre-forward. When numbers were introduced in the 1933 English FA Cup final, one of the two centre-forwards that day wore the number nine – Everton's Dixie Dean a strong, powerful forward who had set the record for the most goals scored in a season in English football during the 1927–28 season. The number would then become synonymous with the centre-forward position (only worn that day because one team was numbered 1–11 whilst the other was numbered 12–22).[5] Striker United States women's national football team striker Alex Morgan The role of a striker is rather different from that of a traditional centre-forward, although the terms centre-forward and striker are used interchangeably at times, as both play further up the field than other players, while tall, heavy and technical players, like Zlatan Ibrahimović, have qualities which are suited to both positions.[6] Like the centre-forward, the traditional role of a striker is to score goals; strikers are therefore known for their ability to peel off defenders and to run into space via the blind side of the defender and to receive the ball in a good goalscoring position, as typified by Ronaldo.[7] They are typically fast players with good ball control and dribbling abilities. More agile strikers like Michael Owen have an advantage over taller defenders due to their short bursts of speed. A good striker should be able to shoot confidently with either foot, possess great power and accuracy, and have the ability to link-up with teammates and pass the ball under pressure in breakaway situations. While many strikers also wear the number 9 shirt, the position is also associated with the number 10, which is frequently worn by more creative deep-lying forwards such as Pele, and occasionally with numbers 7 and 11, which are often associated with wingers.[5] Second striker Edit Deep-lying forwards have a long history in the game, but the terminology to describe their playing activity has varied over the years. Originally such players were termed inside forwards, creative or deep-lying centre-forwards. More recently, two more variations of this old type of player have developed: the second, or shadow, or support, or auxiliary striker and, in what is in fact a distinct position unto its own, the number 10,[8] exemplified by Diego Maradona, who is often described as an attacking midfielder or the playmaker. The second striker position is a loosely defined and most often misapplied description of a player positioned somewhere between the out-and-out striker, whether he is a "target-man" or more of a "poacher", and the Number 10 or attacking midfielder, while possibly showing some of the characteristics of both. In fact, a coined term, the "nine-and-a-half", has been an attempt to become a standard in defining the position.[9] Conceivably, a Number 10 can alternate as a second-striker provided that he or she is also a prolific goalscorer; otherwise, a mobile forward with good technical ability (dribbling skills and ball control) and link-up play, who can both score and create opportunities for a less versatile centre-forward, is more suited. Second or support strikers do not tend to get as involved in the orchestration of attacks as the Number 10, nor do they bring as many other players into play, since they do not share the burden of responsibility, functioning predominantly as assist providers.[10] In Italy, this role is known as a "rifinitore" or "seconda punta",[11] whereas in Brazil, it is known as "segundo atacante"[12] or "ponta-de-lança".[13] https://www.google.com.ng/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forward_(association_football)&ved=0ahUKEwjqj4nlwPfXAhUD0xoKHZK7APkQFghdMBA&usg=AOvVaw2TX80Cdfxcj-52ZnsrbLE1 @bolded 1, Made it clear that modern football of today needs and still uses CF in a 4-2-3-1 formation which we largely used during our qualification to the WC. But all the players we used in that position did not measure up to the requirements this formation was created for. Players like Iheanacho and Ighalo failed woefully in this position. Na Onyekuru wey no sabi play CF go come do magic? @bolded 2, what is the responsibility of a CF in our 4-2-3-1 formation? As we can all see, it is to score majority of the goals but in our case Ighalo and Iheanacho could oonly score 1 goal each in 5 and 4 games respectively when played as a CF in our 4-2-3-1 formation. These explains why our CFs are not the highest goal scorers. @bolded 3, this shows how a CF could achieve his goals when played as a CF in a 4-2-3-1 formation. If Iheanacho can't control ball and can't deft touch, how can he even hold the ball? We have seen him struggled several times in both the national team and club with ball control and in the CF role. Na onyekuru wey no sabi how to position and hold unto ball na em go come play CF for us in our 4-2-3-1formation? Ighalo can play the role well but he is not prolific enough else he should have scored 3 goals in five matches and that could have made him the highest goal scorer in our team as expected of a CF but he is far from it. @ 4&5 suggested that if we need a striker who can dribble, find space, fast, shot accurately with both legs and prolific at scoring goals, it is not Iheanacho and Onyekuru because they simply don't have all these attributes, and, therefore, do not fit into our 4-2-3-1 formation. They are SS and LW respectively. Rohr has seen it all hence the need to try Iheanacho as a RW and later tried to see if he could gel in another formation. ![]() |
ChrisKels:I have always known that Onyekuru is good but I do not see him as a CF. Do you want me to show you how the Everton's fans are dying for Ademola Lukeman? Don't forget Ademola Lukeman is more valuable than Henry Onyekuru. |
I watched Onyekuru played on the LW in the first half yesterday and he didn't disappoint but when he was moved to the CF position for almost 40 minutes in second half, I realized what his coach said was true. He can't play the CF position because he lacks the instinct and ability of a CF. But people here thinks otherwise hence the clamour to add him as the third CF. Smh We want to go to WC with Iheanacho who is impotence as a CF, Ighalo who could only score one goal after 5 games, and to to add more salt to injury, we want Henry the prolific LW but impotent and ineffective as a cf, as the 3rd option for the Cf slot.
