He was eligible to play for Nigeria through his father who is a Cameroonian-Nigerian.

I will explain why I am trying to fit Onyekuru in and not Ahmed Musa or anybody else.

There are teams you come up against and quick passes will not work, Iceland is a perfect example. You can stand infront of their backline and make 20 quick passes but those guys won't move until you come closer and you see that they will double up on each of your players what do you then do? You need quick dribblers. When you have a player who can just beat his immediate marker that creates room instantly and serious panic through the opposing teams rank(this is why I believe Iceland will be mincemeat for Argentina precisely). Now we don't have Messi but we have Onyekuru and Iwobi two guys who are nice(not great) dribblers and under normal circumstances we will place a CF who can pass the ball well and engage in your one-touch-two-go football, in that same way Onyekuru or Iwobi(depending on who is well-placed) can make those Alli-esque runs when the CF falls back and joins the passing triangles in the middle.

Against Croatia though is another thing entirely. We will have to adopt a system similar to Barcelona 2015. These guys midfield will kill us if we engage them so here we sacrifice midfield play for outright direct football. Rakitic is a briliant DMF when he plays there and someone said Kovacic hardly plays for Madrid, well that is because he is out injured, he recently returned and has already played a game for them, pure quality, no need saying much about Modric. There is another problem too, their midfielders all have wonderful shots so they should not be allowed to even come so close to our post which is why I wouldn't play Onazi. In this type of game we need direct players, once we get the ball we should take a maximum of 3-4 touches and get the ball to the forward players without dwelling on midfield play
The reason Ahmed Musa was marked out against France at the WC was because they knew he was direct. Even Onyekuru was marked out in the second leg against PSG after they noticed he dribbles with pace.

What they did was to slow him down by shielding him with two players and they always stayed static( they don't move) and closed him down slowly until he was forced to retreat and pass sideways.

From what I saw he is not suitable for such defensive formation because he can't hold unto the ball and create something out of nothing.

He is best suited for rapid counter attack tactics.

In such situation, you need an attacking midfielder that can hold unto ball, drift into the midfield, dribble one on one in static situation and has good vision to set a through pass.

Iwobi, Mikel and Vicmo will be the perfect personnel for the Iceland match. If Sone Aluko is available, he is also best for this type of game.

I have seen Iceland played and I think they are very good at counter attack once the dispose the ball from their opponent.

If we have to win balls against Croatia, which two DMF do you want to use?

You are right. Freedom is key. Let me use a biblical example to illustrate. The gospel of Grace teaches complete forgiveness of sins (past, present and future). It is the grace gospel that brings freedom to believers, because they can't be condemned by God anymore for their sins because Jesus have received their condemnation at the cross. So it is having that freedom that actually destroys the power of sin and its consequences in people's lives. This was why Apostle Paul was not very happy with the churches in Galatians during his time. The believers who after being saved by grace, went on to start keeping the law in order maintain their salvation, so Apostle Paul tried to make them understand that they were saved by grace (unmerited, undeserved and unearned favor) and they will remain saved by grace through believing in Christ and until Jesus comes and not by their ability to practice righteousness by keeping the law. He also warned that anybody that is still trying to do what the law commands in order to be made right with God have fallen away from God's grace and have been cut off from Christ (Galatians 5:4).

Under grace, God doesn't place expectations of righteousness from believers, he doesn't demand righteousness from them, he is satisfied with the finished work of Christ. That is why He only requires people to believe in Jesus in order to be declared everlastingly righteous in his sight (Romans 4:5, 10:4). So those who believe in Christ and still trying to earn their right standing with God have fallen away from God's grace. Apostle Paul adjured the churches in Galatians to enjoy their liberty in Christ and never entangle themselves again in the bondage that Christ have set them free (which is the law).

He expressed that he was shocked (marvelled) that people were already turning away from the gospel of the grace of Christ to a different gospel in his days.

“I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel” (Galatians 1:6 NKJV)

And if you read, verse 8 and 9 of same chapter, you will see that he delivered double curse on any preacher that preaches another gospel that opposes the gospel of Grace, and he said even if they are angels from heaven.

The reason why some Christians still struggle with sin is because they are still under the law. Some churches are still preaching the law and the Bible says “the strength of sin is the law.” (1Cor 15:56) When you promote the law as a preacher, you unwittingly or wittingly promote sin. What actually frees Christians to live Christ glorifying lives is the liberty that they enjoy in him, it is not the obligations and commandments. The Bible says the reason why sin will not have dominion over believers is because they are under grace, not under the obligations of the law (Romans 6:14). Under grace, a believer's righteousness is no dependent or determined by his obedience, works and self-righteousness. It is determined by the righteousness and obedience of Christ (Romans 5:19) and His finished work.

So my dear, freedom is very important in every sphere.
Sir, based on the @bolded Do you mean we don't need to confess our sin even if we commit sin?

Don't you ask for forgiveness again even after you must have sinned?

Or are you perfect, holy and righteous?

Sorry in advance.

Bad agent, impatience, instability, not versatile etcetera.

He was not patient enough to wait until he breaks into Sporting Lisbon's first team after spending 3 years there because he wanted to break into the national team. He also wanted to get more money and guarantee for first team but he left as a free agent. He could had broken into the first because he won an international U19 tournament for them in his first season and even won the best player of the tournament. He singlehandedly helped them again to the finals the next season in same competition before he left when he was just 18 year of age. I was also happy he left at that time but I later realized it was a bad move for him to had Left at that age.

At PSV, the same thing happened. He was not patient enough because he had many players ahead of him (especially OlaToivonen, Kevin Stroostman, Wijnaldum & Memphis Delay) and his contract was based on performance.

Though he made the bench on several occasions but he didn't play more than 2 league matches the whole seaon and 5 games of Eredivise FA version. I think I read where the coach talked about his smallish body frame and advice he had to build on his strength because of the physicality of the game.

But I think it is very difficult for an African to be entrusted to play the AMF role ahead of indigenous players who are also as good as him.

Unfortunately, he had to contend directly with Ola Toivonen was the captain and he was one of the best players in the Eredivise. Even at LW where they tried to use him, Memphis was bosing it there.

I think if he was patient enough he could had developed there because at some point, he always made the bench but his agent requested PSV to terminate his contract because of lack of game time. And he got him a deal with Celtic even when Liverpool and other clubs were rushing for his signature.Note, he spent only eight months before he terminated his 3 years contract because he wanted to make the Afcon.

Immediately, he was issued work permit based on special talent clause. Believe me, he met the same situation there. Many big players were ahead of him and he couldn't adapt to the physical accept of the Scotich league hench the need to terminate his contract quickly again because of lack of game time and the pressure to get game time in other to make the National team for AFCON.

The next move was Kilmarnock in the same Scotich league where he started to get regular game time on the LW but he was later released after he collapsed on the pitch during a match. If he had not collapsed I think he would had done well there.

From there, he went to Trencin where he picked up himself and his career.it was there he helped them to win the league with Madu and Moses Simon and it was there Gent came for him.

Na from there me stop to follow because game time come hard to get.

I think he is a conventional number 10 and unfortunately, he is not versatile.

It is will be very difficult for an European club to entrust that position to an African and that is why you see club convert African players from their natural attacking midfield role to play other roles.

This is why I repect and appreciate Abdul Ajagun because he has always been favoured to play on that AMF role for all the clubs he went to in Europe. He is currently playing there for his club this season.

There is no player like him that has been played or is being played consistently in that role for the past 5 years in in a top club or top 10 league in world the SE.

My study of Rabiu Ibrahim and some African players exposed me to this reality. That is why it is good for an African AMF to be versatile.

"I remember when I was in Barcelona," Guardiola said. "The first or second year I was there, Unai Emery, who is now the PSG trainer, was there [at Valencia].

"After the game we spoke about that and he told me, 'David Silva is the player for you, for Barcelona. Believe me, that is a player for Barcelona by far'. And he was so right, he's a special player

"He has something more special than awards. Awards are to put in the wardrobe."The opinion we will have in the future about his career will not be about how many individual prizes he has won. It will be about the opinion of his team-mates and his managers."

What Guardiola is saying here is that, now he is working with David Silva, he can see that Unai Emery, current PSG manager was right about David Silva being up there with Xavi or Iniesta.

I am still watching.
How could Guardiola see then when he was perturbed with 'pass..no no...I say pass..again again...don't dribble like Messi... I say pass..' grin

but I think...idowu should be tried in another friendly...his overlapping runs and being always in the Argentina team yard box...is something of good...better than every LB we have had of recent.
Yes, he should be tried as a LB in a four man's defence as well as LWB in a 3 man's defence before given finally verdict on him. This should also be extended to other players fighting for slot. But if Elderson is fit and playing regularly for his club, he is a sure bet to make the list. No doubt about it

In my own humble assessment, we shouldn't take more than a maximum of 8 defenders as one our midfielders can comfortably play as a centre-back (Ndidi). Considering all the names we have, I would say baring injuries or loss of form, the names Forgiveness has put forward are almost sure-bets. Echiejile is I believe the only true LB, the others are kind of jack of all trades, versatile players. I would also pick Omeruo ahead of Agbo because he showed us against Argentina that he hasn't actually lost it and if we play like we did against the Argies, we would need a reliable back up for the three CBs. Unhappy as I am typing this, I think one of Shehu, Ebuhei, Aina or Idowu would have to be dropped. I would be shocked if it's Shehu so the axe is in Rohr's hand and he can swing it as he deems fit.

My list of 8 defenders would be
Ekong
Leon
Awaziem
Shehu
Echejile
Omeruo
Ebuhei
Idowu/Aina

I will say we need to see more of Idowu before we can actually say he's the best since sliced bread. Judging by Aina's first game, he wowed us all and then in the 2nd and 3rd we started seeing his weaknesses. Who knows what will happen to Tyronne and Idowu in their next games too.
I don't think Rohr will select more than 8 defenders for th mundial.

Based on your list, if I have to choose btw Brian Idowu and Aina, Brian has my nod because he offers more to the team in terms of versatility than Aina, and not necessarily based on talent and ability to effectively play in a particular role. But if talent and ability to effectively play well in a particular role are put into uppermost consideration and become the ultimate factor to choose, Aina is a better choice for me as a RB because I saw him played and performed wonders in that role for his club. In short, Aina and Ebuehi will be my choice RB options while Echiejile and Idowu will be my LB options because they can effectively play well in a role.

However, if versatility is the main deciding factor then Idowu is better, he can play comfortably as a DF, DMF, RWB, LWB, RB and LB.

Based on these, Aina has to make way for Idowu but I hope the coaching srew use the other deciding factor to choose because jack of all trade no go help if they are not affective enough.

I think I will still want us to get another player apart from Omeruo but unfortunately those foreign breed no want gree play for us.

I think Dominic Iorfa is the only one ready nau but NFF dey play politics.

I can say, I watch David Silva intently to decipher why Guardiola feels he is an unbelievable genius. I have not seen what Guardiola is looking for and will keep looking.

Even in all those arguments in the past, no one hit why Mbappe is special. It is not just about goals that people were talking. It took me time to decipher it. Not from even watching Mbappe but Gabriel Jesus. Now I want to watch Mbappe games to see more of what I have deciphered.

I learn. That is why I can feel glad seeing my shift/growth in understanding. Not ignorance.

You are the one who is suicidal when you are wrong. Not me. I am glad when I learn something new.
Bro, David Silver had always being an unbelievable genius before Guardiola said so.

Even meself acknowledged it as soon as I saw him played in his first season at Man city. It was for this reason I followed Rabiu fom Sporting Lisbon to PSV, Celtic, Kilmarnock, Trencin and finally Gent hoping he could turn out to be our own David Silva but the rest they say his history.

This has to do more with perception formed on the basis of his past. Presently he is not selfish as such

.
How did he score the first goal against Algeria? He dribbled his way into the box, passed the ball to Iheanacho but it struck a defender and came back to him. There wasn't any clear situation where one could have said 'ohhhhhh if only Vicmo had passed the ball we would have scored. Against Cameroon in Nigeria he powered two of our goals. Mikel freed him from deep in our half, he ran with the ball. Mind you there was nobody to pass the ball to because we were on a counter except Simon Moses. He passed to Simon at the right time. Simon squared for him and he scored.
In a counter, an attacker needs to run with the ball because most times its just him and another attacker who push the counter. I bet Vicmo did better than both Iwobi Iheanacho on the counter. Once Iwobi would have freed Iheanacho but he failed. Twice Iheanacho would have freed Iwobi but he failed. How come Vicmo released the ball for Iheanacho against Algeria, how come he released the ball to Simon against Cameroon?

There wasn't any such golden chance Vicmo denied Ighalo against Cameroon. Have you forgotten how he passed the ball to Ighalo twice against Zambia? I do not agree that he's been selfish so far at least not the way you guys make it look. As in to me it's exaggerated. And I trust you realise that of all our attackers Vicmo is the most defensively disciplined.
All you said is true. However, if Vicmo was not selfish in the second leg against Cameroon, we could have won with the match.

There was a particular moment out of few I can remember vividly he was supposed to pass rather than shot.

That particular moment was when he choosed to shot the ball in the box instead of passing the ball to Echiejile who was totally unmarked on the left side in the box.

I was personally pissed off with that his move. It is for this reason i want Echiejile in the WC squad because I noticed he sometimes sneaked into scoring position but he doesn't get the pass at the right time.

Aina Ola (RB/LB/WB)
Elderson Echiejele (LB)

Troost Ekong
Awaziem
Echiejile

These are confirmed players going to the WC.

I will prefer we go to the WC with 7 of these players if Idowu is included because he can play as a CB and DMF too. And we also have Ndidi who can as well play comfortable on the CB position. Awaziem is also capable of play as a DMF.

I think Rohr should test them in those role in friendlies.

Gernot Rohr
Super Eagles boss wants to take Obafemi Martins to World Cup

Nurudeen Shotayo | 15:46 | 01.12.2017

Gernot Rohr has thrown the door open for Obafemi Martins and others to return to the Super Eagles ahead of 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Nigeria's coach Gernot Rohr oversaw the Super Eagles' qualification for Russia in October 2017
Super Eagles technical adviser, Gernot Rohr has stated that China-based striker, Obafemi Martins, and other players who have been out of the national team, stand a chance of getting on the plane to Russia in 2018.
The Franco-German tactician revealed this during a recent interview when he's expressing his willingness to increase his striking options as the Super Eagles continue to build up to the World Cup.

Rohr who just extended his Super Eagles contract maintains that Obafemi Martins and other Nigerian strikers who are hoping to be part of the World Cup party would have to be playing and scoring consistently to earn a call up.

Obafemi Martins in action for Super Eagles (Thenet.ng)
Martins, who currently plays for Shanghai Shenhua, helped his Club to win the Chinese FA Cup on Sunday, November 26, by beating rival Shanghai SIPG. The 33-year-old scored in both matches of the two-legged final.

He netted the only goal in his team's 1-0 first leg victory and also got their second goal in the return leg which finished 3-2 in favour of SIPG. Although the tie finished 3-3 on aggregate but Martins' club won based on away goals rule.

Obafemi Martins goal celebration for his club Shanghai Shenhua (owngoalnigeria.com)
“Yes, the door is open to all our best players, including Martins.

“He is scoring a lot of goals and we need to get competition for all the positions, especially centre-forward.

“For now, we have Kelechi (Iheanacho) who is playing not all the time. (But) we played with Kelechi against Argentina and he did well.

“Then Anthony Nwakaeme also did well against Algeria and Odion Ighalo, who is injured now, did very well against Cameroon.

“But we have also other players, like the young boy Victor Osimhen, and we have to look everywhere.

“We have a lot of opportunities for the strikers, and so Martins, if he is scoring goals, will be welcome,” said Rohr.

Rohr's search for a striker
The Super Eagles are still in search of a decent and reliable centre-forward. This position has continued to be a source of concern for Gernot Rohr who has experimented with different players in the last couple of games. During the six games of the World Cup qualification round, the Super Eagles paraded four different strikers.

Victor Moses
In the Super Eagles' first qualifier game against Zambia in Lunda, Brown Ideye led the attack for the team. The then Olympiacos striker was impressive and also provided an assist for Iheanacho to score Nigeria's second goal in the 2-1 victory. However, a move to China in January of 2017 combined with lack of form and game time ruled him out of consideration.

Kelechi Iheanacho slotted into the striking position when the Super Eagles beat Algeria by 3-1 but it was obvious he struggled to cope in that role. In the double header against Cameroon, Odion Ighalo had a stellar performance for the team and even scored a goal to complement his efforts. He repeated the same feat against Zambia, although he finished the game without scoring.

In the inconsequential game against Algeria, Anthony Nwakaeme was dragged in as a centre-forward but the Apoel Beer Sheva player couldn't get into his rhythm and had a below par performance.

Odion Ighalo

It's instructive to note that out of the 12 goals scored by the Super Eagles in the World Cup qualifiers, only Ighalo's goal against Cameroon can be said to have come from a natural centre-forward. This development has prompted Rohr to embark on a quest for a natural goal poacher.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have also joined in this search. In September, NFF President Amaju Pinnick announced that Nigerian-born and Swansea City striker Tammy Abraham has committed his international future to Nigeria. The tall striker has come out to debunk the claim and has even gone ahead to play for the Three Lions of England.

With Obafemi Martins back in the picture, the speedy striker may play his way into the plans of Gernot Rohr for the World Cup if he can continue his goal scoring foam.

Am not saying is not better but you can't compare the duo i mean Joel Obi and Moses Victor when we talk of injury
Due to injures, Vicmo couldn't enjoy his loan at Liverpool and Stock city.

I don't think there is any difference.

I really don't want to say anything about this slimy issue of tribalism. But you see forgiveness himself makes it easy for others to tag him a tribalist. I refrained for long from looking at him from that angle but one day I snapped and called him out. He explained his position to me and I apologised. The point I want to make is that he himself is fond of accusing the coaching and technical crew of all sort of things including tribalism and nepotism. When he does so, others fire back by labelling him a tribalist. That's the circle. So he too should refrain from accusing coaching crew of tribalism (even if it appears so) and perhaps others would ease up on their own accusations directed at him.
These people are paid with tasks payers money. There is no way they can be spared from public attacks.

Accusing me of trabalism is not the issue but the issue is the inability to give a cogent reasoning backed with critical analyses to back up such accusation, rather than resoting to prejudice

After all, I have always analyse issues.

To some, it is their profession to give reasonable reasons that can't be accepted as fact or demised as false.

Once, people are allowed to express themselves, I don't think there will be need for personal attacks due to prejudice.

Good preference but what can you say about Joel Obi,no doubt good player but injury prone, don't you think is better to have Etebo than Joel Obi.

Why dropping both Daniel Akpeyi and Dele Aiyenugba for Dele Alampasu or Maduka Okoye cos i believe Francis Uzoho has covered the duo.
Do you know Victor Moses is also injury prone?

Joel Obi is better.

Dear Brother...... I'm hereby seeking for your Forgiveness for those who have accused you of being a Bigot on this noble Thread.

This Thread is too good to be derailed or/and discarded. Many have learned about our Players through this Thread. Many are depending on Updates as far as National Football Teams are concerned on this Thread.

Dear Brother...... let's bring Sanity back to the Thread. Let's discuss the Team and our Chances, whoever makes the List so be it.
And I say to them 'go and sin no more' grin

Honestly, projection are distractions from the cruise of main priorities and critical thinking.

Only weak brians resort to blackmail and unfounded counter upon counter false accusations without cogent fact or reasoning.

Well, I am only putting things straight for those guilty to get a reflection of themselves.

However, I hope they engage in healthy debates devoid of accusations when one makes his/her points even if they mention and defend 8 players from Fulani tribe
.
I am comfortable and in agreement with whatever will bring sanity into thus thread.

Thanks

Looking at this team, their strength is the ability of their midfield to keep possession.

In this case, we must overcrowd the midfield with two mobile defensive midfielders.

We must press from their defence to force them to play against their wish but if we don't succeed to get the ball as quickly as possible, we have to withdraw and defend from deep with rapid counter attacks once we have the ball because I don't think we can match dem in the midfield.

I wish we perfect that 3-5-2 formation again with another friendly with Iwobi and Iheanacho as false 9. They will always fall deep into the midfield to overcrowd the midfield and When they spread to the wings, Mikel will become the false 9.

In this case, they are confused on who to mark as our target man.

The more we analyse this team the more fear fear go come.

CityJoe:
Tosin was exposed repeatedly in the first half but in the second half, he was outstanding. However, I did not bother talking about his brilliant display because I do not see him as one of ours.

However, Tosin Adarabioyo has a bright future ahead of him.
I saw him yesterday too and I agree with what you said about his performance in the first half. He was woeful. However, he came up good in the second half just as you also agreed.

Well, since we are still discussing and hoping Felix Ukpobai and Tori will change their minds, I think it is allowed we discuss him too.
