Player positions is not as rigid as you think. Was Vicmo defensive minded before he was converted to his new role? |

TheGoodJoe: Tell me Azeez pace is close to the likes of Ambrose and Onazi? He is not. I think Azeez featured in the World Cup before that game and he was not stellar. Are you comparing Omeruo to the quality of Ramos and Pepe?
Omeruo would have found it difficult adjusting to an unfamiliar role in such an intense, physical game.
Even Rueben adjusted later in the game and won some balls. It was the intensity and physicality that would have troubled Azeez. They would have Slaughtered him on the pitch. Going with a big guy under such pressure was the best option.
The French were still the better quality team. Keshi played Azeez out of position. |

You are yet to say why Azeez would have been a success. Except that he did not come in. It was too fierce for him. Who is faster between Onazi and Azeez? Who is faster between Azeez and Gabriel? |

Chai! Tiago Ilori playing against one the bests strikers in the world. They won that match by 3-2.
TIAGO ILORI PROGRESSING NICELY ON LOAN AT BORDEAUX
Tiago Ilori Progressing Nicely on loan at Bordeaux Liverpool’s highly rated central defender, Tiago Ilori, is now beginning to blossom at Bordeaux after a tough start to life on loan in Ligue 1.
A hamstring injury back in October against Reims, that consequently saw him miss around two months, curtailed what had been a decent start to his loan spell.
Ilori Progress
Since his return from injury, however, the Portuguese’s performances have been rather encouraging, as he continues to justify why Liverpool were so keen to acquire him, and paid £7 million to do so .
While he’s been partnered with multiple central defenders for a variety of reasons since coming back, including fellow Liverpool target Lamine Sane, Nicolas Pallois and Cedric Yambere, it’s been important to note Ilori has been a constant. His form has been solid too, something that’s obviously been greatly helped by the fact that he’s remained fit.
Obtaining playing continuity is vital for any footballer’s development, and in Ilori’s case, it’s fantastic to see him reaping the benefits of getting vital top flight minutes.
Playing against the likes of PSG, Saint Etienne, Guingamp and Toulouse this season will act as a terrific stepping stone for him in his quest to be a mainstay for Liverpool in the future.
Lining up in his now-customary position on the right side of central defence against Lens on the weekend, the 22-year-old produced another very positive display.
Up against Lens’ physically imposing forward Adamo Coulibaly, who really is a brute of a man, Illori stuck to his role nicely, successfully limiting his impact .
On many occasions, the former Sporting prodigy beat Coulibaly in the air and even held up well in battles of strength, but the area in which Ilori absolutely dominated related to sheer pace.
He made certain that Lens had little joy playing balls in behind Bordeaux’s defence. Despite their relatively high line, the unbelievable covering speed and anticipation of the youngster almost completely nullified this avenue of attack for the away side.
Even on the odd occasion where a ball went over his defensive partner Yambere, by using his speed, Ilori would ofen motor across and kill the move. On 40 minutes a perfect example of this arose. Here, after Pablo Chavarria had broken through in behind Yambare, it looked as though the Argentine was clean in. It wasn’t to be. Thankfully for Bordeaux, Ilori charged across the field to execute a precise sliding tackle to knock the ball out for a throw in and save his team.
[It was a magnificent piece of action, and one that illustrated just how good he is physically He can leap, he’s fast and even quite strong despite his slender frame, and when combined with the fact he’s 190cm tall and only 22 years of age, he undoubtedly ticks almost all the boxes required in a modern day centre back.
Intriguingly, and on a side note, he unsurprisingly still holds the record for the fastest 30-metre sprint at Sporting.
The youngster, also, showcased his ability to take up excellent positions and make good decisions – with and without the ball.
Hardly ever caught out in this contest was Illori, for he positioned himself intelligently enough to cope with any situation. He stayed goalside when tracking markers and didn’t step up and lunge into tackles overzealously. The maturity he showed when addressing the problems ahead of him, and in dealing with them in a calm and composed manner, was a real highlight.
Seeing as Lens often looked to move the ball down the flanks and whip crosses in for Coulibaly, it was impressive to note just how well Ilori dealt with these situations. As mentioned above, his concentration and awareness to remain goal side and keep track of his man was wonderful. This, in turn, meant that the languid figure was so often perfectly situated to clear and cut out crosses. The whopping 11 successful clearances he made depicted his effectiveness aptly here.
Whenever Bordeaux look to facilitate their attacks, their fullbacks Diego Contento and Mariano always have a key role in providing width for Les Girondins. So with this prerequisite in place, the covering work Ilori undertook was crucial in allowing his right fullback, the marauding Mariano, to motor upfield freely. It also gave the Brazilian peace of mind knowing that Ilori would cover his man, Lens left-winger Baptiste Guillaume, if a turnover occurred.
On the ball, the elegant stopper exhibited that fine passing range he possesses. While he often opted to play simple passes into Bordeaux’s deep-lying midfielder Gregory Sertic, his accurate long balls, horizontal and vertical, illustrated delightfully his quality in possession. This facet of his game should mean that Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has little hesitation when integrating him in next season – if he chooses to use him.
“The technical quality of Tiago hit us,” mused Bordeaux manager Sagnol on this.
Statistically, his numbers are rather impressive for Bordeaux too, and consist of him averaging 2.2 tackles per game, 2.7 interceptions pg and a colossal 6.1 clearances per game.
The former Granada man recently commented on his desire to return to England and to have an impact. “My long term plan is to play and win titles for Liverpool Football Club. The team they are building can be huge, and I want to be a part of that.”
All things considered, this wildly talented Liverpool loanee really does look to have a bright future ahead of him. The idea of a future central defensive pairing of Mamadou Sakho and Ilori is something that’s gaining traction, and could well become a reality sooner rather than later. We’ll just have to wait and see what Rodgers’ plans are for this very gifted defender. http://anfieldindex.com/13716/tiago-ilori-progressing-nicely-loan-bordeaux.htmlThese are why I rate him highly than Dominic Iorfa Jnr. I have seen both played but this is just to put the nail in the coffin. |

With those attributes I can see him surviving the championship standing out and making it to the EPL.
I have only seen Ajagun playing pretty football not getting down and dirty, that's why I rate Onazi more.
But the final matter HEIGHT have you seen many short midfielders in the championship From my recollection of Ajagun the guy short can not win any aerial battle.
I rest my case, present your own.
I could add on 2009 as a teenager hr looked old he looks older can those legs carry him with intense physio stamina required. This last paragraph is my biased unproven view. Hahahahahah! Joebie: Bro coaches don't check the history of a players playing position before they deploy them. They simply test them during training and study their qualities.
Coaches decide based on their playing philosophy. Mourinho at Real Madrid for example wanted forwards that can all switch between CF and the wings at any time during the match. If you are a CF for example and you can't play the wings, u won't suit his style.
Oga coaches look for different things.
In Ajax, Louis Van Gaal desired midfielders that can both attack and defend. That's another philosophy based on the style he wanted to play.
Most coaches will not deploy kC as a LB because he can't defend nada.
VicMo for your info can defend which is why Conte tried him there. And he does that for Chelsea. He is a wing back. He can play from defense to attack on both wings. Why will coaches not deploy him at LB and how would they know if he wasn't tried in training? If you answer rightly then you will arrive at my submission that he Joel Obi must be tested in training or friendlies before he is thrown into the game as an AMF. |

Humility017: England Youth International Defender Eager To Hear From Super Eagles Coach Rohr
England youth international defender Dominic Iorfa is eager to represent Nigeria if called up by coach Gernot Rohr ahead of their preparations for the World Cup 2018 in Russia. Iorfa who is on loan to English Championship side Ipswich Town from fellow Championship team Wolverhampton Wanderers has represented England at various youth levels. However the defender who snubbed overtures from Nigeria as his father Dominic Iorfa Snr insist on his son reaching the age of 22 before deciding his future, has now declared for Nigeria. ” He is at the age now , where a decision on his international future has to be made, and like his father said few months ago, he is ready to play for Nigeria, but he is yet to be called up”, a family source told Owngoalnigeria.com. komekn: Absolutely 100%.
However, he came to Liverpool and couldn't cope with the speed, intensity and the physicality.
Yes I did see him when he first came, to us it was obvious he was light weight. He was promptly sent to the gym to beef up.
He was use to playing pretty tip tap football in the Portuguese league. He couldn't cope and never played one game for Liverpool in the premiership after near 4 years. That in my book is sadly a failed project and an indication of very limited ability. Or alternatively you could say good for the Portuguese league but woeful for the EPL.
The EPL is not for everyone it's the most competitive, physically intensive and fastest league in the World. Not everyone can cut it, unfortunately Ilori is one of those that couldn't cut it. Not only good for Portuguese league because he was also good for LA Liga and Ligue 1. If you flopped in team in EPL doesn't mean you can't excel in another team in EPL. Lukaku fumbled at Chelsea with all the game time but today we are singing a different note. Tiago Ilori is better than Dominic Iorfa Jnr in my own opinion. |

TheGoodJoe: Spain is more of a teamwork. Who in our team apart from Mikel Obi would have been coordinated to play Tip tap game. We were playing with pace and under lots of pressure in that match. Azeez coming in woukd adjust to the team. Not the team adjusting to him. He would have had to play a more defensive role, taking away his control game.
In such frenzy, he would have been an easy target. From your above statement, you can see Azeez was not a good fit. Why was Onazi a pain in the neck for the French? Why was he wanted out? Was it his attacking and running attributes or his tackling and dirty work attributes? Don't mix the two? If it was the former, Onazi was never a threat because the French had marked out our major threat in Ahmed Musa. The later was the reason he was kicked out and as soon as he left, the French had a free ride onward. So, my point is, Azeez would have offered both perfectly. Go and check his tackling statistics in the la Liga. We needed someone who could control the game, give passes and at the same time tackle wella. |

TheGoodJoe: You are funny. Instead of you to say explain.
The Spanish style of play relies more on movement off the ball more than movement on the ball. You will hardly find Iniesta or Silva running with the ball to go past players. They do soft tricks if they hold the ball but most times pass it.
In such instance, a physical side will be cautious of tackling because a harsh tackle can lead to a send off.
So the will use the same players. Even a player like Xavi but the style of play will make fouling Xavi difficult, let alone with such malicious intent as Matuidi. If their style of play will make fouling Xavi difficult then Azeez should have been the perfect answer because he's used to that style. Then our game will flow with Azeez's soft tricks and sleek passes than one dongorayo with no football brain than gragra and kwatankwa style of play. Don't you think so? |

Onazi and Ambrose were not the first injured in that game. These are two physically strong players. If Spain and France met then, who will play for them apart from the ones we know are playing in the la Liga? |
