adegwurulez: If balogun/ekong gets injured, we have awaziem, Agbo and even Ndidi can play as a CB. And if push comes to shove, we can always fall back on omeruo. Who would you rather have? Yobo? Shittu? I really don't see any problem in that central defence.
I did mention that we need a creative midfielder didn't I? The problem with the Eagles midfield is that thier creativity dies with mikel's substitution. Someone like Aluko would be a good addition, if not, Iwobi can always take that role.
We do not need another goalkeeper, Enyeama is still a member of this team.
Martins will have to do something extraordinary to displace any of our striker. They have not been tested, have they? Besides, we can't limit the CB position to those aforementioned players because we have a lot currently active. Derek Osede, Tiago Ilori, Jordan Torunarigha, Felix Uduokhai, Brain Idowu and Fikayo Tomori are also good enough. Otigba don commot for radar. Defoe still plays for England and likewise some old players in other National teams provided they are inform. |

adegwurulez: We barely have a year to the mundial, any coach that doesn't already have 75% of his team has no business in the world Cup. Our main focus now should be team blending and cohesiveness. The areas we need reinforcements are just few. The LB position, A creative midfielder and a winger. I don't think there is anything Martins can bring to the table that Iheanacho, ighalo, kayode, (in all likelihood, these are the three point men we're going to the world Cup with) can't bring.
I'd rather we spend that time trying to get tammy Abraham. If not, a LB, a creative midfielder, a winger(if bazee comes good he'll be a great addition), with 1-2 months extensive training camp and quality friendly games, then we'll be ready for the world Cup. Of course, we need to know 75% of our team and focus on cohesion but team cohesion can be disrupted by injuries hence the need to look out for equally good replacement. This replacement must have played in high profile matches to ascertain the level of cohesion or damages should incase a key player is out due to injury. Moreover, they must be acquainted with the pattern of play before the world cup else a player becomes jjc and confused when brought in to replace a player. What happens peradventure Balogun get injured or get banned for a match? Who partners Ekong? What happens peradventure Mikel is indisposed to play a match against France in the world cup, who will play in his place? Etcetera etcetera. However, I disagree that the only positions for reinforcement are left back, creative midfielder and winger. The defense, the goalkeeper department, CMF and even the striker position are also areas with deficiency or stability. So, if Martins is scoring goals we should just ignore because he too old, ba? Abi, what is your point. |

adegwurulez: @bolded for reals? It doesn't matter if he performs or not? If performance doesn't matter then we can as well go to the world Cup with some bunch of farmers.
See ehm... In football, the coach bears the brunt of his decisions. I see people here castigating the coach for inviting Aaron Samuel only when it had been reported that he flopped in training. This same people had at one point questioned Aaron's continous snub. This same people never spoke up when he was called to replace Iwobi, only after he flopped.
See that's the kind of fans we have, today shehu shouldn't be in the team because he plays in Cyprus, tomorrow shehu is the best thing since sliced bread. Today ezenwa doesn't inspire Confidence, tomorrow he is Enyeama's reincarnate.
You and every other person clamouring for Martins won't come and apologize if he's called up and flops, hell you might even blame the coach for calling him. If I'm correct, keshi gave him a chance which he couldn't grab but because he's the great Martins, he should be given a hundred more, while someone like onazi that can kill for the team should be kicked out.
Typical Nigerian mentality. The grass is always greener at the other side. If he does not perform then kick him out of the team. Chikena! Some raised eyebrows here when Aaron Samuel was invited. Aaron Samuel want not supposed to have been called in the first place when players like Kayode and Martins were doing well. If you do well you must be called to the national team and it's not enough to use the training to rate and discard a player because we have heard about players who don't do well in training but performed wonderfully well in main matches. Besides, we the fans want to access the players with our two Koro Koro eyes before conclusion and judgement are formed based on what is seen because I don't trust our coaches. GBAM! I am never a fan of Shehu Abdullahi and Ezenwa. You can ask anyone here. I have never for once agreed to any school of thought that suggests or suggested that Onazi should be kicked out. Ask. Which kind bad belle chance Keshi gave Martins? Martins Obafemi was played in wrong positions or given small time. If Martins Obafemi continues to score for his Chinko club, he should be given a chance under Rohr. If Rohr sticked to his 'we have a complete team' and didn't invite Ighalo for the match against Cameroon, we for chop am. |

Now I understand why you talk football like a kid sometimes, typical Chelsea fan Bhuuuhahaha! What is the d duty of a DMF in such situation? Is it not to block all leakages? kennysville: Lets ask ourselves this. Keshi won Afcon with a set of players. Then we went to confederations cup with another batch of players and then we got to the world cup with a different set of players again. Where is the cohesion? That is what i meant when i said the team needs to be solid in understanding.
So are we to blame the losses in confed cup and the world cup on Keshi's tactical ineptitude-ness? Or please help me analyse the 2 scenarios.
Bottomline in my sincere opinion, everyone cannot play! If it doesnt fit into the plans of the coach realizing that the team is still relatively young, then we must understand that their time will also come. This is why we dont invite players based on sentiments. Different games require different approach. For instance we diddnt need muscles against algeria. Why? They arent the physical type. Against south Africa, we lacked precision in the midfield and leadership. Finally against cameroon, we played both skill and aggression.
In other words, we need to define who does what at what time properly before all these invitations roll out. Lets not be ahead of ourselves here. Rest assured, when the final world cup list is released, we might be shocked that people who were supposed to make the cut never did. There can only be 23players then. In as much as ladies have so many jewelries and accessories, still, they cant put it all on for an outing. Same goes with our football.
Everybody cannot play! Every squad player must be tested prior to the world Cup in other to avoid what happened to us against Italy in 1994, Greece in 2010 and against France in 2014 when some players where delibarately injured but we couldn't replace them with a better quality players. To avoid another reoccurrence, we must see how we play without Mikel, Ndidi, Onazi, Moses, Balogun, Ekong etc in the team. Bigger teams do that regularly. |

Do you know that in the match against Pep's Bayern, Barca conceded possession but still Busq was not penetrated?
Do you even listen to yourself? Don't you know that it's teams that control possession that are more liable to counter attacks thus making the work of the dmf very very vital and important.
Mikel is nowhere close to the top 20 amfs in Eastern Europe alone, but Busquets has been doing this against top teams, even Pirlo could not take the midfield from Spain with Busq there and Mikel is not Pirlo, not even close, somehow you think Mikel will skin Busq? Most recently oliseh was pressured into inviting lukman haruna. That one was so poor he couldn't even complete one half. Yes, we should be careful at this point. Nevertheless, some player like Aaron Samuel should be removed and replaced with a better player like Kayode. Joebie: 7 SEPTEMBER 2017 The Guardian (Lagos) Nigeria: Super Eagles' Fringe Players to Face Algeria After Zambia Clash NigeriaSoccerSportWest Africa Tweet Share Google+ By Christian Okpara The Super Eagles' technical crew will give players, who have not had the opportunity to play for the country in the on-going Russia 2018 World Cup qualifying series to feature in the last game against Algeria. That is, if the Eagles beat Zambia next month to confirm Nigeria's qualification for the Copa du Mondo.
Zambia surprised bookmakers on Tuesday when they went to Algiers to beat Algeria in their matchday four game. That victory took Zambia seven points, three lower than Nigeria, who will host them in Uyo on October 7.
A win in that game guarantees Nigeria the ticket to Russia 2018 World Cup. The Guardian learnt that fringe players, including home-based stars and some based in Europe were originally billed to take on Zambia until the Chipolopolo took the decision out Coach Gernot Rohr's hands in Algiers.
One of the officials, who pleaded anonymity, said in Yaoundé on Monday that the qualifiers also serves as preparation for the World Cup, adding that it has given the coaches the opportunity to assess the mentality of the players that have featured in the series.
"The coaches know what the players in the CHAN team can do, but they also want to see them in grade A games. "If as expected We beat Zambia to qualify for the World Cup, there will be no need to play against Algeria with the players in the main team," he said. Na wa ooooooo! This is football and national team should not be for mediocres. It should be for players who merit it and are ready to give it all.I think it's high time Rohr centred his attacking options on pool of players like Ighalo,Iheanacho,Kayode,Ideye,Oyekwuru.
Ighalo had it so good at EPL before moving to China,Nacho highly rated player in EPL with very good goal ratio even in d national team,Kayode had a wonderful season in Austria last season, signed by man city but loaned to Girona in la liga,Ideye a good player behind any striker(remind me of siasia)now in la liga,Oyekwuru doing it for Anderlecht, for God sake what do we need again and any player that w break in to this team must be exceptional striker
Prior to US 94,we already have our strikers(Yekinni,Amokachie, Siasia,Ekoku)so this campaign should not be an exceptional, not only attackers but in other department of d game. Martins Obafemi is also doing well. |

What's the guarantee that recuperating enyeama will be match fit before that decisive encounter in less than a month? I like nwokolor as much as u do but be honest, how many minutes has he under his belt so far this season compared to Ezenwa?
In the attack u can make a case for anybody but Musa that hasn't made the match day squad dating back to almost middle of last season. Even with Eagles, he hardly see minutes of action and the few minutes he was on the pitch specifically in the double header against Cameroun, he didn't make any striking impact, u can argue that he didn't have enough time, but if he was cutting it at training, he would be playing more. At the club level, form and Stats wise, onyekuru trumps him.
Rahim Lawal? The less said, the better. He now plays in the same league as Azu, has he been as good as or any better than Azu in Turkey so far? Though they played with different sets at the u23, Rahim was never as good as Azu was at the u23s.

TheSuperNerd: Iwobi is another who can step into Mikel's role... he is a good ball holder and orchestrator too. Defensively, he is still improving. Kelechi Nwakali is for the future.... he needs this first full season in the dutch eredivisie to build more on his game and potentials but he remains a long term quality solution but not one to be considered outrightly right now.
Ajagun, Joel Obi (if his injury wahala is over), And even Raheem Lawal (played some games under Keshi) should be looked into also.... this Mikel void is very important to fill. Even John Ogu is not a long term solution to the Mikel Void as he isn't one to orchestrate plays much despite his ability to keep possession but I would have preferred he came in for Mikel than a destroyer-like DMF with limited passing range like Agu... If that be the case I will like to see play in that role for both club and national team consecutively before the world cup. I don't buy the idea of using players in a makeshift positions just to accommodate them in the team. However, Joel Obi is the man able to replace Mikel Obi in this role and he is still very young. I don't think he is using his football age, so I think he will be around for another 7 - 8 years provided he stays injury free. He is the best amoung the lots and plays regularly in that role in a better league where CMF is highly emphasised. For now, Nwakali must prove himself in his club before he's considered for the future. We all saw Azeez Ramon who was the third best in the U17 world cup not living up to expectation though he bloomed ahead of his peers. If Joel Obi is not in the team OTHERS can be considered.
