Don't you know that it is rude to barge into a group's discussion when you are not a member of that group? Muslims are having discussions based on our faith. You barge in to state your opinion about the validity of our faith, we don't really care what you think. However, you are being an unnecessary distraction and derailer of threads. Your case is like a basketball player who wants to slam dunk in the middle of a football game. It is either he plays by the rules or gets a red card. |

Yoga is a Hindu science that claims to teach people how to unite their soul with the "Supreme Soul", and merge their will with the "Cosmic Will". The practice of yoga has three main components: 1) The physical exercise component, 2) The mental meditation component, and 3) The verbal chanting component. These three are combined to make yoga what it is. Let us think of these three separately. 1) There is nothing inherently holy or evil about the physical exercise component by itself. If someone stretches his leg in a certain way, that is neither holy nor evil. None of the physical stretching exercises in yoga need be connected with any religion. So we can do any exercise freely, even if it was a Hindu (or a Muslim, or a Buddhist) who first taught it. A typical yoga lesson does not emphasize the spiritual connection initially. So when people hear that some Christians are opposed to the practice of yoga, they wonder why. The reason is that the more advanced you get into yoga, the more you are going to move towards the ultimate purpose behind these exercises. So while breathing exercises may appear to be innocent initially, even these could be initial stepping stones that have its overall aim as "merging the individual will with the Cosmic Will." 2) When it comes to the mental meditation component, we have to be careful. Yoga typically teaches people to empty their minds of all thoughts and then to meditate. That is wrong for a Christian. The Bible tells us to meditate on God's Word at all times. We must FILL our minds with God's Word - meditating especially on the verses that tell us how much God loves us (e.g. Psalm 139:17-18, Isaiah 49:15-16, Jeremiah 29:11, etc). 3) The verbal chanting component is what we must avoid altogether. Yoga typically teaches people to keep chanting the word "Om" - a syllable that is supposed to be the highest manifestation of God-consciousness in Hinduism. The invoking of Om to relax is much more than a blind chant of some random syllable. It is an opening of the mind to other spirits. As Christians, we must never seek to achieve any sort of relaxation by such chants. We do not even chant the Name of Jesus, because that Name is not a 'mantra' - and our Lord specifically forbade us from using meaningless repetitions in prayer. The Lord gives us rest in our minds through the Holy Spirit and not by chanting. If we find that we can meditate on the Lord and be at rest in our spirits, while doing the physical exercises in yoga, then we can continue doing them. But if at any time, we find any uneasiness in our spirits, then we should avoid doing them. There are many forms of exercise, other than yoga, that Christians can engage in, to keep physically fit. We can know the mind of the Spirit in all matters by peace in our hearts (Rom.8:6 ) http://www.cfcindia.com/web/mainpages/articles.php?display=article41 |
This modern view of the end times has succeeded in tying together various strands of false doctrine, into a package of Biblical untruths that could not only lead to the loss of salvation by the deceived, but to a catastrophic series of wars. The basic tenements of Christian Zionism, derived from the false doctrine of Dispensationalism and a host of modern day delusional end time false prophets, are: 1. God has two separate covenants of Salvation, one for the Church and one for the Jews, and that all His dealings with each are separate and distinct. Joh 8:24 I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins. The above scripture makes it clear that faith in Jesus Christ is the only way to be saved, as do several others: Act 4:10 Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. Mar 16:16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. Joh 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. Act 4:11 This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. Act 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. As far as all God’s dealings with the Jews and the Church being separate and distinct, this too is easily refuted by the Scriptures: Gen 3:15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. Here God tells the serpent (Devil) that the seed of the woman, Jesus Christ, will conquer his seed, and in the scriptures below, God tells Abraham that all the families of the earth will be blessed through his seed, and Jesus confirms that Abraham knew what God meant, he had foreseen the day of the Messiah coming and was glad: Gen 12:3 … and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed. Joh 8:56 Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad.God’s dealings with the Church and the Children of Israel are not separate and distinct, but His purpose for Abraham and His purpose for His Church are the same: Gen 12:1 Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee: 2Co 6:17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, 2Co 6:18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty. Rom 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. Rev 18:4 And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues. God’s unchanging desire for His Chosen People, whether they are Jew or Gentile, is the same from Genesis to the Book of Revelation. To be separate from the world and to look forward to a Kingdom to come: Mat 6:10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. 2. That God wants to reestablish the Jews, an unsaved people who believe that they alone are “God’s Chosen People”, and that’s why they have a right to the land of Israel, regardless of their unbelief, which caused the loss of their homeland in the first place. Belief in Christ is a requirement to continue on as part of God’s chosen people, or the Israel of God, as the Apostle Peter makes clear to the Jews: Act 3:22 For Moses truly said unto the fathers, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear in all things whatsoever he shall say unto you. Act 3:23 And it shall come to pass, that every soul, which will not hear that prophet, shall be destroyed from among the people. Peter refers to the punishment God stated in the Old Testament or Covenant for abominable acts: Lev 18:29 For whosoever shall commit any of these abominations, even the souls that commit them shall be cut off from among their people. And the prophet Daniel speaks of the abominations that caused the Jews, their Temple and their city to become desolate: Dan 9:27 … and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate. The he mentioned in Daniel 9:27 is not an antichrist figure, as so many Zionists believe, but Jesus Christ. This is confirmed by the following scriptures: Luk 21:20 And when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh. Luk 21:21 Then let them which are in Judaea flee to the mountains; and let them which are in the midst of it depart out; and let not them that are in the countries enter thereinto. Jesus like Daniel, tells the Jews that they, and their Temple and City, are going to be destroyed, as a result of their abominable actions. There is no mystery as to why: Mat 23:33 Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell? Mat 23:34 Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them ye shall kill and crucify; and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city: Mat 23:35 That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar. Mat 23:36 Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation. Mat 23:37 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not! Mat 23:38 Behold, your house is left unto you desolate. Mat 23:39 For I say unto you, Ye shall not see me henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord. Having clearly foretold their destruction, He finishes by telling them the way back to the Grace of God, by accepting that He came as their Messiah, in His Father’s Name. Paul also tells the unbelieving Jews the way back into God’s Grace: Rom 11:23 And they also, if they abide not still in unbelief, shall be graffed in: for God is able to graff them in again. Jews and Gentiles grafted into an Olive Tree, which represents the Israel of God, the Chosen people, God’s chosen people: 1Pe 2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: 1Pe 2:10 Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy. Col 3:12 Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; Once again, because it is a clear and definite rebuke of today’s inhabitants of Israel, in their fallen, unbelieving and disobedient state cannot claim the title of God’s chosen people, as Peter told them directly: Act 3:22 For Moses truly said unto the fathers, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear in all things whatsoever he shall say unto you. Act 3:23 And it shall come to pass, that every soul, which will not hear that prophet, shall be destroyed from among the people. And that prophet mentioned by Moses is clearly and inarguably Jesus Christ and the Jews did NOT listen to Him, and they have been destroyed from among God’s People as promised. In closing out section 2 of the article, I’ll use an analogy to describe today’s Zionists: The Zionists remind me of children whose parents have promised them a reward IF they behave. For example, if you’re good and clean your rooms and do your homework we’ll take you out to get an ice cream cone. Well, their rooms are a mess, they didn’t do their homework, they didn’t remember that part, but they sure remembered that Mom and Dad promised them an ice cream cone! The Zionists remember the part in the Bible where God promised the land to Abraham’s Seed, but they completely ignore the warnings found in Deuteronomy and Leviticus about being cast out of the promised land for disobedience/unbelief! They still refuse to do their homework, or clean their rooms and when Mom and Dad aren’t home they’re going to sneak out and steal the ice cream cones from the kids next door! Deu 28:58 If thou wilt not observe to do all the words of this law that are written in this book, that thou mayest fear this glorious and fearful name, THE LORD THY GOD … Deu 28:63 And it shall come to pass, that as the LORD rejoiced over you to do you good, and to multiply you; so the LORD will rejoice over you to destroy you, and to bring you to nought; and ye shall be plucked from off the land whither thou goest to possess it. Deu 28:64 And the LORD shall scatter thee among all people, from the one end of the earth even unto the other; and there thou shalt serve other gods, which neither thou nor thy fathers have known, even wood and stone. 3. That Christians should support the unsaved Jews financially, politically and militarily to be blessed by God. If you’ve been reading so far, you should already know this is false, but let’s add some more scriptures to back up this conclusion: Gen 12:3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee … God is here speaking to Abraham, an individual, not a group of unbelieving Jews thousands of years later. As we’ve shown above, unbelieving Jews are no longer part of God’s chosen people, but are cut off (the Bible uses the harsher term destroyed in Acts 3:23) from among His people until they repent and believe in Jesus Christ. To further amplify this, Paul tells us the true seed of Abraham is Jesus! Gal 3:16 Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ. And John the Baptist says the birthright as Abraham’s physical descendents means little, while remaining unbelieving and unrepentant: Mat 3:9 And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham. Mat 3:10 And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Apart from Jesus you can NOT bear good fruit: Joh 15:1 I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. Joh 15:2 Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit. Joh 15:3 Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you. Joh 15:4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. Joh 15:5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. Joh 15:6 If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned. 4. If Christians don’t support the unsaved Jews then God will curse the nations they live in with hurricanes, earthquakes, draught, famine, etc. Not only should Christians not support the unbelievers, but they should have nothing to do with them other than preaching the Gospel: Mat 10:5 These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not: Mat 10:6 But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. Mat 10:7 And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand. Mat 10:8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give. … Mat 10:14 And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet. Mat 10:15 Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city. Christian Zionists, does it sound like Jesus is going to punish those who don’t support the man-made state of Israel? No, of course not, it sounds like He is going to punish the unbelievers who rejected Him! 2Co 6:14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? To conclude these two sections, if you truly want to bless the Jews than preach the Gospel to them, do NOT encourage their continued rebellion against God! 6. Jesus Christ will quietly appear and “Rapture” out of the world His “Church”, afterwards, an Antichrist figure will lead physical Israel into rebuilding the Temple, reinstituting animal sacrifices and cause a peace treaty to be signed between physical Israel and her enemies. From the correct interpretation of Daniel 9:27 above we learn that while this verse is used incorrectly by Zionists to support a false belief in a Third Temple, there is no Biblical evidence to support this. Indeed for a Christian to believe in, and worse yet, support the unsaved Jews in building a Third Temple is mind-boggling! A Temple … animal sacrifices? For what? Haven’t you read that believers are the true Temple of God? 1Co 3:16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? That God doesn’t accept animal sacrifices, that Jesus Christ is the lamb of God that takes away the sins of the world? There is no need for a Third Temple, for Jews to build one is just storing up further wrath upon themselves, and for Christians to support this is proof that they are under strong delusion: 2Ti 4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; 2Ti 4:4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. Heb 10:1 For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect. Heb 10:2 For then would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins. Heb 10:3 But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year. Heb 10:4 For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins. Heb 10:9 Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second. Heb 10:10 By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. The New Covenant, or second, is sanctified through the blood of Christ, the first through the blood of animals, is taken away, or made of no effect by the greater Covenant between God and believers in Christ. Clearly, animal sacrifices are useless to an unbeliever. Joh 1:29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world. 7. In the midst of a prophetic week, which is 7 years, believed by the Zionists to be Daniel’s 70th week, the Antichrist will turn on physical Israel, declare himself to be God, desecrate the Temple and lead the world in attacking Israel. Only a miraculous intervention by Jesus Christ, apparently His 3rd coming, will save them, and thus all Israel will be saved, or so they believe. We’ve proven from the scriptures that the above scenario centered on a third temple isn’t Biblical, but, it doesn’t mean it couldn’t happen. This is where the self-fulfilling prophecy comes in. Combining Biblical truths with the Zionist fables we can arrive at a possible situation where the Jews have continued on their way to ethnically cleansing their “land”. Thousands upon thousands of Arab Christians and Muslims who lived there peacefully with all before the Zionists came to Palestine, are murdered and or displaced into other countries. Israel, fully backed by the U.S. militarily and politically and financially continues on its path to create ersatz Israel, or greater Israel. The current situation, where the U.S. and Israel and their allies deny the right to Iran to create nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, their right as a signatory of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, and increase hostilities with them to a point where full scale violence erupts over it. Either Israel or the U.S., or both, attack Iran under the guise of destroying their nuclear capabilities, causing horrendous civilian casualties and Iran retaliates by trying to block the straights of Hormuz to cut off oil supplies to the west, and conducting offensives into Iraq to go after the U.S. forces permanently stationed there. The world’s economy teeters on the brink of destruction because there’s no energy to do work. The U.S. and Israel and their allies respond by using “tactical nukes“ to stop the “Islamofascists” from destroying the world‘s economy by blocking and or destroying the world’s oil supplies. During this time of war, a man claiming to be a Jew, takes control of “Israel” and destroys the Mosque on the Temple mount, and they begin rebuilding the Temple. “Israel” now has physical borders from the Mediterranean to Iran and they and their allies continue to slaughter Muslims as they march across to China’s border, in an attempt to isolate Russia and China. Now the Temple has been rebuilt and animal sacrifices have been reinstituted, the unsaved Jews believe they are saved and they feel like they’re on top of the world: Meanwhile, the Christian Zionists are expecting to be raptured out at any minute. Of course, the long sought after “Rapture” doesn’t happen. During this time anyone who protests against the Zionist take over in the middle east is taken into custody. Dissenting voices in the Church are silenced and Zionism becomes the world’s official religion. As a result of not being raptured “Christians” around the world begin to look at the charismatic leader in “Israel”, he, being aided by the enemy, the devil, begins to do false signs and lying wonders, perhaps stages his own death and resurrection and fools many “Christians” and “Jews” into following Him as their Messiah: Rev 13:13 And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men, Rev 13:14 And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live. Rev 13:15 And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed. Rev 13:16 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: Rev 13:17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. And in the “Churches” he tells the people through his false prophets that they have to receive the mark of the “lord” to save them from the coming destruction. Falsely referring to: Rev 7:3 Saying, Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads. But, in actuality they are taking the Mark of the Beast, thus dooming themselves to the Lake of Fire: Rev 14:11 And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name. During all this time, the faithful remnant, the true Israel of God, both Jews and Gentiles, but now one in Christ, were protected and waited for their Lord to come for them. They continuously sought after the truth and walked after the Spirit, not the flesh. They didn’t worship physical Israel or their own countries, they were strangers to this world. They didn’t store up treasures on earth and they awaited their treasures to come: Rev 21:1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. Rev 21:2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. Rev 21:3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. Rev 21:4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. Rev 21:5 And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful. Rev 21:6 And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. Rev 21:7 He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son. Rev 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death Rev 21:27 And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life. Perhaps some of you reading believe the above scenario to be impossible, you’d never fall for that. Think again, open your eyes and see how far you’ve fallen away already: You’ve tried to combine your allegiance to both God and Country despite being told from the Bible that it cannot be done: Luk 16:13 No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and Mammon. You’ve made idols out of your country, your churches, your money and everything else that stands in the way of living your lives in accordance with the true Gospel. Mat 13:22 He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful. Most of the Church of Jesus Christ has fallen away and they’ve lost, or never had, a love for the truth and in so doing they’ve turned to fables and God will treat them accordingly: 2Th 2:3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; 2Th 2:4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. 2Th 2:9 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, 2Th 2:10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 2Th 2:11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: 2Th 2:12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness. Instead of studying your Bibles and searching for and praying for the truth to be revealed to you, you paid professionals to tell you what you wanted to hear. To encourage your self righteousness as you increased your bank accounts. Because of these fables you turned the other way while your country and “Israel” slaughtered millions around the world. You didn’t speak up, even if you wanted to, because you and your “pastors” were not free to, you were incorporated servants of the government (501c3 incorporated institutions of the U.S. government) because your church leaders had agreed to this, so as to not have to pay taxes on their filthy lucre! You didn’t realize that Zionism, and Prosperity doctrines, and Rapture Doctrines were all false. You listened to the false prophets, you listened to the wolves in sheep’s clothing, because you wanted to. “Just make me feel good”, you said, “God bless America”, you said, you talked the talk, you knew your church speak well. You didn’t walk the walk though, you didn’t walk after the spirit though. Encouraged by your false prophets you walked after the flesh and reaped the rewards of it: Rom 8:13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. Rom 8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. It doesn’t have to be that way though, you don’t have to suffer a fate worse than death, you don’t have to go through that. God is not willing that any should perish, Amen? It isn’t God who wants all these things to come against you. God isn’t forcing the Zionists to rebel against Him. The truth is plain for all to see, it is the wicked desires of your own hearts that have brought you to a condition of apostasy, of rebellion and twisting the Holy Scriptures to justify getting what you want. It’s not the Zionists who rule the world, it’s the rich men of the earth that oppress us, who cheat us, who turn us against each other, they, guided by their master, Satan. They simply use the natural fleshly desires to get us to do what they want: Jas 1:12 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him. Jas 1:13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: Jas 1:14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Jas 1:15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death. Jas 1:16 Do not err, my beloved brethren. The end times scenario described above doesn’t have to happen, if it does become a self fulfilling prophecy, it will happen because the rich men of the earth will use the desires of the wicked to cause it to happen. Neither do you have to go through it and through a fate worse than death, repent now, this very minute, while there’s still time: Rev 3:3 Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee … Rev 3:5 He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels. Rev 3:6 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches. You’ll have to change though, you’ll have to begin to love the truth and seek it with your whole heart. Jesus Christ is the way, the life and the truth, and to love Him and obey Him is the way to salvation. Daniel Mark |
I won't mention names but I have lost respect for certain people on Nairaland ![]() |
Former governor of Nigeria’s oil rich Bayelsa state, Chief Timipre Sylva, was on Tuesday docked before Justice Adamu Bello of a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on a six count charge relating to an alleged N2 billion loan secured from Union Bank Plc, purportedly for the augmentation of the salary of the state’s civil servants. He was alleged to have connived with some state officials and others said to be at large in defrauding the state of the money while at the helm of affairs in the state. Soon after he pleaded not guilty to the six count charge, his lawyer, Chief Lateef Fagbemi moved for his bail which was vehemently opposed by Mr. Festus Keyamo who represented the anti graft agency in the matter. Fagbemi told the court that the former governor submitted himself to the court and was never declared wanted. He urged the court to rely on a plethora of Supreme Court decisions which favour the granting of bail since an accused is presumed innocent pending his being found guilty by the court. Keyamo opposed the granting of bail to the former governor and drew the attention of the court to efforts made by the anti graft agency to serve him and urged the court to deny him bail and to make an order for expedited hearing. The court subsequently adjourned to Thursday, 7 June, to deliver ruling on the bail application and remanded the former governor in the custody of EFCC. No sooner had the court concluded with proceedings in the matter and was about to call up the next case on the list, operatives of the anti graft agency swooped into the court and pounced on Silva to effect his arrest. The court berated the operatives over their conduct and directed the EFCC’s lawyer, Mr. Festus Keyamo to call them to order. He subsequently ordered the operatives out of his court as he was yet to sign the order for the custody of the former governor which must be done before the anti graft agency can take him into custody. tintingz: Muslims the "Chosen People" of GOD? If not, then who are? No race, color or gender are chosen by GOD Almighty in Islam. Everyone is evaluated by his Good Deeds. Allah Almighty Said in the Noble Quran:"O mankind! We created you from a single (pair) of a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that ye may know each other. Verily the most honoured of you in the sight of Allahis the most righteous of you. And Allah has full knowledge and is well-acquainted. is the most righteous of you. And Allah has full knowledge and is well-acquainted. (The Noble Quran, 49:13)"Muslims believe that the idea of "Chosen People" is a Jewish lie that was fabricated and inserted into the Bible to make the People of Israel be the Superior over all nations. The Bible, however, admits that it got corrupted by the Jews themselves, thus making their bogus claims get flushed right down the toilet. The Jews had corrupted the Bible:Let us look at what GOD Almighty Said to the Jews in the Bible:"`How can you say, "We [the Jews] are wise, for we have the law of the LORD," when actually the lying pen of the scribes has handled it falsely?'(From the NIV Bible, Jeremiah 8:We will rather have a corrupted bible and peace than a pure Quran and mayhem with nonstop bloodshed !! |

The body of an unidentified woman suspected to be one of the passengers of the ill-fated Dana plane was recovered at the site of the crash with her baby still placed on her chest. The bodies of the woman and her baby were recovered at about 1.20pm on the first floor of the building where the plane crashed. The bodies were put in the same black body bag. Also brought out of the same floor was a resident of the building, Tosin Anibaba. Our correspondent learnt that she was identified by one of the residents who was with the officials on the first floor of the building. The body of Dr. Abiodun Jonathan was also among those recovered at the site. Nine bodies were recovered between 1.00pm and 2.10pm and were put in a white hearse for onward transfer to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital’s mortuary. The hearse, a Hyundai bus with number plate Lagos AJ 865 FFF, belongs to a private funeral company based in Lagos. An unidentified female National Emergency Management Agency advised few of the relatives of the victims to visit LASUTH for identification of the corpses. She said, “There is nothing we can do here. All the corpses will be taken to LASUTH. I will advise the relatives of the victims who are here to visit LASUTH and identified their people who died in the crash.” “Even corpses that had been identified cannot be released because we are working on instruction. Those that had been identified are the ones we are giving name tags. If you observed, you will discovered that not all the corpses had been tagged because there was no way we could identify them. “Some were even burnt beyond recognition. The few ones we were able to identify were either those identified by their relatives or those who had one form of identity or the other, which have their names as at the time of the crash.” The NEMA officials appealed to a few of the relatives at the site to cooperate with the agency so as to hasten the recovery process. http://www.punchng.com/news/body-of-woman-clutching-dead-baby-recovered/ |
The concept of the "age of accountability" is that children are not held accountable by God for their sins until they reach a certain age, and that if a child dies before reaching the "age of accountability,' that child will, by the grace and mercy of God, be granted entrance into Heaven. Is the concept of an age of accountability biblical? Is there such a thing as an "age of innocence"? Frequently lost in the discussion regarding the age of accountability is the fact that children, no matter how young, are not “innocent” in the sense of being sinless. The Bible tells us that even if an infant or child has not committed personal sin, all people, including infants and children, are guilty before God because of inherited and imputed sin. Inherited sin is that which is passed on from our parents. In Psalm 51:5, David wrote, “Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me.” David recognized that even at conception, he was a sinner. The very sad fact that infants sometimes die demonstrates that even infants are impacted by Adam’s sin, since physical and spiritual death were the results of Adam's original sin. Each person, infant or adult, stands guilty before God; each person has offended the holiness of God. The only way God can be just and at the same time declare a person righteous is for that person to have received forgiveness by faith in Christ. Christ is the only way. John 14:6 records what Jesus said: “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, except through Me.” Also, Peter states in Acts 4:12, “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.” Salvation is an individual choice. What about babies and young children who never reach the ability to make this individual choice? The age of accountability is a concept that teaches those who die before reaching the age of accountability are automatically saved, by God’s grace and mercy. The age of accountability is a belief that God saves all those who die before reaching the ability to make a decision for or against Christ. Thirteen is the most common number given for the age of accountability, based on the Jewish custom that a child becomes an adult at the age of 13. However, the Bible gives no direct support to the age of 13 always being the age of accountability. It likely varies from child to child. A child has passed the age of accountability once he or she is capable of making a faith decision for or against Christ. With the above in mind, also consider this: Christ's death is presented as sufficient for all of mankind. First John 2:2 says Jesus is “the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.” This verse is clear that Jesus' death was sufficient for all sins, not just the sins of those who specifically have come to Him in faith. The fact that Christ's death was sufficient for all sin would allow the possibility of God’s applying that payment to those who were never capable of believing. The one passage that seems to identify with this topic more than any other is 2 Samuel 12:21-23. The context of these verses is that King David committed adultery with Bathsheba, with a resulting pregnancy. The prophet Nathan was sent by the Lord to inform David that because of his sin, the Lord would take the child in death. David responded to this by grieving, mourning, and praying for the child. But once the child was taken, David's mourning ended. David's servants were surprised to hear this. They said to King David, “What is this thing that you have done? While the child was alive, you fasted and wept; but when the child died, you arose and ate food.” David's response was, “While the child was still alive, I fasted and wept; for I said, ‘Who knows, the LORD may be gracious to me, that the child may live.’ But now he has died; why should I fast? Can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he will not return to me.” David's response indicates that those who cannot believe are safe in the Lord. David said that he could go to the child, but that he could not bring the child back to him. Also, and just as important, David seemed to be comforted over this. In other words, David seemed to be saying that he would see the child (in heaven), though he could not bring him back. Although it is possible that God applies Christ's payment for sin to those who cannot believe, the Bible does not specifically say that He does this. Therefore, this is a subject about which we should not be adamant or dogmatic. God’s applying Christ’s death to those who cannot believe would seem consistent with His love and mercy. It is our position that God applies Christ's payment for sin to young children and those who are mentally handicapped, since they were not mentally capable of understanding their sinful state and their need for the Savior, but again we cannot be dogmatic. Of this we are certain: God is loving, holy, merciful, just, and gracious. Whatever He does is always right and good. http://www.gotquestions.org/age-of-accountability.html |

“ I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior…”-1 Timothy 2:1-3 Ezra 6:10 so that they may offer sacrifices pleasing to the God of heaven and pray for the well-being of the king and his sons. Jude 1 : 8-10 " Likewise also these filthy dreamers defile the flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities.Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee." As Christians, we are asked to pray for our leaders for the reasons stated above and not abuse, insult or curse them. Our president is going through very tough times as we speak, he is attacked from within, from without , trying to cope with the menance of Boko Haram, trying to rebuild the economy that has been ruined by the corupt presidents we had in the past, he is hated by many , liked by some and to be honest he must have one of the most diffiult jobs in the world. 1. My prayer is that God will send him his light of salvation, more wisdom, power and stregth to rule this chaos of an entity called Nigeria. 2. I also pray that God will protect him from evil people that surround him with their poor advice and also protect him from hurt or harm, this extends to all his family. https://images.alarabiya.net/61/12/640x392_43548_218588.jpg Nigerian Islamist group Boko Haram on Monday claimed responsibility for a weekend suicide attack on a church in the country’s northeast which killed 15 people and wounded 40 others. In an emailed statement to journalists, Boko Haram also threatened renewed attacks on journalists and media houses. “Today God gave us victory by launching a suicide attack on a church in Yelwa neighborhood in Bauchi city,” the group said in the statement written in the Hausa language widely spoken in Nigeria’s north. While the statement could not be confirmed as authentic, it came from the same email address previously used for similar claims. The statement did not give a specific reason for the Sunday church attack or disclose the identity of the suicide bomber. In Sunday’s attack, a suicide bomber tried to drive an explosives-packed car into a church. The attacker approached a checkpoint near the church in Bauchi State, which has previously been hit by Boko Haram and where tension between Muslim and Christian ethnic groups has led to violence in the past. He was stopped at the checkpoint and instead rammed his car into the security gate around the church and set off his explosive device. The Boko Haram statement warned journalists over their reporting on the group. “We are keeping tabs on all comments being made about us ... Let no one make any entreaty to us when we perfect our plan and start our operation, especially against journalists,” the statement said. The statement accused journalists of “unbalanced reporting” by publishing statements issued by the Nigerian authorities while ignoring or altering its statements. A suicide bomber on April 26 blew up his explosives-laden car at the Abuja office of This Day newspaper, one of Nigeria’s most prominent dailies, killing at least five people. Another bomber targeted a complex housing newspaper offices, including for This Day, in the northern city of Kaduna in a botched attack on the same day. Boko Haram claimed responsibility for the attacks and threatened to target other media houses, including the Hausa-language services of Radio France and Voice of America. The group’s insurgency has killed more than 1,000 people since mid-2009. Its attacks have grown more sophisticated and have increasingly affected a wider geographical area, spreading from their base in the extreme northeast across the wider north and down to the capital Abuja, in the center of the country. It claimed responsibility for a suicide bombing of U.N. headquarters in Abuja in August which killed at least 25 people. Its deadliest attack yet occurred in January in the northern city of Kano, when coordinated bombings and shootings left at least 185 people dead. Nigeria, Africa’s most populous nation and largest oil producer, is roughly divided between a mainly Muslim north and predominately Christian south. http://english.alarabiya.net/articles/2012/06/04/218588.html |
https://msnbcmedia3.msn.com/j/MSNBC/Components/Photo/_new/120524-science-crucifixion-130p.grid-10x2.jpg An 1849 Currier & Ives lithograph shows the tumult surrounding Jesus' crucifixion. Geologists say the historical event may have taken place April 3 in the year 33, based on an analysis of seismic records. Geologists say Jesus, as described in the New Testament, was most likely crucified on Friday, April 3, in the year 33. “And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit. At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook, the rocks split and the tombs broke open.” To analyze earthquake activity in the region, geologist Jefferson Williams of Supersonic Geophysical and colleagues Markus Schwab and Achim Brauer of the German Research Center for Geosciences studied three cores from the beach of the Ein Gedi Spa adjacent to the Dead Sea. Varves, which are annual layers of deposition in the sediments, reveal that at least two major earthquakes affected the core: a widespread earthquake in 31 B.C. and a seismic event that happened sometime between the years 26 and 36. The latter period occurred during “the years when Pontius Pilate was procurator of Judea and when the earthquake of the Gospel of Matthew is historically constrained,” Williams said. "The day and date of the crucifixion (Good Friday) are known with a fair degree of precision," he said. But the year has been in question. In terms of textual clues to the date of the crucifixion, Williams quoted a Nature paper authored by Colin Humphreys and Graeme Waddington. Williams summarized their work as follows: All four gospels and Tacitus in Annals (XV, 44) agree that the crucifixion occurred when Pontius Pilate was procurator of Judea from A.D. 26 to 36. All four gospels say the crucifixion occurred on a Friday. All four gospels agree that Jesus died a few hours before the beginning of the Jewish Sabbath (nightfall on a Friday). The synoptic gospels (Matthew, Mark, and Luke) indicate that Jesus died before nightfall on the 14th day of Nisan, right before the start of the Passover meal. John’s gospel differs from the synoptics, apparently indicating that Jesus died before nightfall on the 15th day of Nisan. When data about the Jewish calendar and astronomical calculations are factored in, a handful of possible dates result, with Friday, April 3, 33, being the best match, according to the researchers. n terms of the earthquake data alone, Williams and his team acknowledge that the seismic activity associated with the crucifixion could refer to “an earthquake that occurred sometime before or after the crucifixion and was in effect ‘borrowed’ by the author of the Gospel of Matthew, and a local earthquake between 26 and 36 A.D. that was sufficiently energetic to deform the sediments of Ein Gedi but not energetic enough to produce a still extant and extra-biblical historical record.” “If the last possibility is true, this would mean that the report of an earthquake in the Gospel of Matthew is a type of allegory,” they write. Williams is studying yet another possible natural happening associated with the crucifixion — darkness. Three of the four canonical gospels report darkness from noon to 3 p.m. after the crucifixion. Such darkness could have been caused by a duststorm, he believes. Williams is investigating if there are dust storm deposits in the sediments coincident with the earthquake that took place in the Jerusalem region during the early first century. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/47555983/ns/technology_and_science-science/t/quake-reveals-day-jesus-crucifixion-researchers-believe/#.T8ZZ_rBYtX1 |

Story 1 - Happened today May 30th 2012. This morning , before I left the house for work, it occurred to me that the car radiator needed some water , but I ignored this warning as per Naija man. On getting to London , there was heavy traffic and suddenly the warning light for temperature on the dashboard kept fluctuating between the minimum high and almost red marks, few minutes later it did reach the final red mark and the red light came on. I kept driving until there was an opportunity to pull over to a safe spot. Then I waited for the car to cool off. As per usual, and with my face in the opposite direction , I gradually opened the radiator cap till all the steam had been let out, there was so much steam I suddenly thought the car will catch fire , thank God it did not.And then, a young beautiful Muslim Pakistani lady with a Hijab who I had never met before stopped and asked me with a lovely smile what the problem was. I calmly explained and she promised to call her husband for help since he was a mechanic.I will not forget her kind smile as she walked away. Within minutes her husband was out ( looked like he just woke up from sleep ) , he walked to the car and gave me a brand new bottle of clean spring water after making sure the matter was not more serious. I carefully filled my radiator with the fresh water while thinking in my heart, God forgive me for all the heated attacks on Muslims, a majority of them are nice people and loving / caring as anyone else. Please let us not believe the hype that all Muslims are violent or inclined to violence. We all have a conscience, some use it for the glory of God while some quench it to their own destruction just like Boko Haram and co. May God reward this woman and her family and bless them with the salvation of Christ Jesus. Yes Jesus is the ONLY way, but we have no right to judge others and put them down because of the actions of others. Story 2 - Happened eons ago There was a serious riot in Kano in which many Christians including Southern Muslims were killed. As a fresh graduate at the time, I together with a number of friends fled out of Kano to another town remotely located about 50 miles away. I was surprised to see the Muslims there totally oblivious to the riots in Kano even though they had radios, but what astounded us was how warm and kindly they treated us. We ate in their restaurant, refreshed ourselves and continued our journey. I retired for the night in a school to which a friend had been posted. The next morning I wanted to get back to my place of posting in Kano, by then the riot had died down. I bid goodbye to my friend and boarded a bus towards Kano, on getting to Bukavu barracks, the Hausa Muslim passengers pleaded with me to not go into Kano city because I will be killed by the Al Majari rioters. Their advice was I go and take refuge in Bukavu Army barracks . I agreed , went into the barracks and was saved from a disaster. This has taught me the following lessons : 1. Treat each person on his or her own merit Christian, Atheist or Muslim. DO NOT PAINT ALL MUSLIMS with the Same Brush. 2. This does not mean I agree with ISLAM , Jesus is the WAY , the TRUTH and the LIFE , but from now on I will differentiate between the bad and the good. 3. You can win People to Christ and your cause , by LOVE ONLY and a godly way of living . Insults, anger and violence will never work , instead they will hurt and destroy. Thanks for reading. Commendations and Insults also welcome ![]() |
I tend to 'agree' with this article. We have to be careful about all the injustices we keep meting out to the other BokoHaram affiliated groups in Kenya, Somalia, Sudan, Pakistan, Afghanistan, UK, France, Palestine , Yemen, Egypt etc etc. Stop the injustice against all these 'innocent ' groups otherwise they will kill in large numbers !!!! |

Regarding the forgiveness of sins, two critical doctrines must be examined. First, all sins must be confessed to a priest: "One who desires to obtain reconciliation with God and with the Church, must confess to a priest all the unconfessed grave sins he remembers after having carefully examined his conscience." Pg. 374, #1493 "Confession to a priest is an essential part of the sacrament of Penance:" Pg. 365, #1456 "It is called the sacrament of confession, since the disclosure or confession of sins to a priest is an essential element of this sacrament. Pg. 357, #1424 (See also Pg. 374, #1493). Catholicism orders members to confess their sins to a man, but the Bible reveals that those who have been born into God's family can go straight to God's throne to receive forgiveness for their sins: "I acknowledged my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the LORD; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. " Psalm 32:5 "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." 1 John 1:9 David confessed his sins to God when he prayed: "Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me." Psalm 51:2-3 Here is why true Christians have access to God' s throne: "Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus..." Hebrews 10:19 Because of the sinless blood that Jesus Christ shed on the cross, we have the authority to go straight to the throne of God for forgiveness. The "first pope's" example In the book of Acts, a man named Simon came to the alleged first pope, Peter, wanting to buy the power of the Holy Spirit. How did Peter respond to this sin? Did he suggest that Simon make a confession to him right there? No, Peter told him to repent and confess his sin to God and ask God to forgive him. (See Acts 8:18-22). Can priests forgive sins? The second part of this doctrine suggests that Catholic priests have the power to forgive sins: "Only priests who have received the faculty of absolving from the authority of the Church can forgive sins in the name of Christ." Pg. 374, #1495 (See also Pg. 364 #1448 ) Here, too, Catholic doctrine opposes God's Word: "Why doth this man thus speak blasphemies? who can forgive sins but God only?" Mark 2:7 Catholicism teaches that the priest is a mediator between God and man. (See Pg. 365, #1456). But the Bible recognizes only one mediator: "For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;" 1 Timothy 2:5 Once again, the Catechism admits that these are not instructions from God, but traditions of men: "The Fathers of the Church present this sacrament as the second plank [of salvation]..." Pg. 363 #1446 More bondage "According to the Church's command, 'after having attained the age of discretion, each of the faithful is bound by an obligation faithfully to confess serious sins at least once a year.'" Pg. 365, #1457 (Emphasis author's) There is that word "bound" again. The Church Fathers created another tradition which keeps people in bondage to the Catholic church. What a powerful weapon to use against Catholics around the world. In essence, this doctrine says that if you leave the Catholic church, you will not be able to obtain forgiveness for your sins, which means you won't go to heaven. Please remember, none of this came from God! These are all man-made threats. May God open your spiritual eyes and give you understanding, so that you may see the depth of the bondage this religion holds you in. May God show you that you don't have to be held captive to this religion any longer. Jesus Christ wants to set you free. Conclusion Millions of faithful Catholics blindly file into confessional booths, believing that the priest has the power to forgive their sins. What about you? Where will you go to have your sins forgiven? To a sinful priest, as the man-made traditions of the Catholic church demand? Or will you go straight to God Almighty, as the Bible teaches? "Out of the depths have I cried unto thee, O LORD. Lord, hear my voice: let thine ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications. If thou, LORD, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand? But there is forgiveness with thee, that thou mayest be feared." Psalm 130:1-4 Source |

In establishing the guilt of mankind Paul shows that man is not only guilty of sin but also is thoroughly sinful. Man is sinful and wicked. Regarding the darkened heart of man the apostle teaches the following. First, the depraved state of man’s heart is a result of a willful act of rebellion. Men suffer under a self-imposed darkness. Men are haters of God (v. 30) from birth. Although we inherit our sinful nature from Adam, we are all personally responsible for the state of our heart and our personal rejection of God. “Sinfulness…describes unregenerate man’s rebellious nature….Everything that unregenerate man does or thinks is undergirded by rebellious inclinations against God, or motivations that are sinful.” Second, the darkness of man’s heart is a result of a judicial act of God. Three times we are told that “God gave them up” (vv. 24, 26, 28 ), or more literally “God gave them over.” Some commentators believe that the giving them up is not a positive act on the part of God but simply means that He stops restraining them and leaves them to their own devices (e.g. Robert Haldane). Others even speak of this process of degradation as a natural process of cause and effect. In other words, God chooses not to interfere with their rebellion and its natural consequences. While it is important to preserve the truth that God is not the author of sin, we do not do justice to this section of Scripture by saying this abandonment is by a bare permission on the part of God. Hodge notes, that such an idea “removes no real difficulty. If God permits those who forsake him to sink into vice, he does it intelligently and intentionally. The language of the apostle, as well as the analogy of Scripture demands more than this. It is at least a judicial abandonment. It is as a punishment for their apostasy that God gives men up to the power of sin….He withdraws from the wicked the restraints of His providence and grace, and gives them over to the dominion of sin….What happens as consequences does not come by chance, but as designed; and the sequence is secured by His control.”[10] The punishment for sin is enslavement to the power of sin and eternal death. Third, man’s blindness and corruption extends to every aspect of his being. “Then the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually” (Gen. 6:5). “The imagination of a man’s heart is evil from his youth” (Gen. 8:21). “The heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked; who can know it?” (Jer. 17:9). “For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies” (Mt. 15:19). In the early chapters of Romans Paul is not only establishing the fact that all men are sinners and guilty before God, he also is teaching man’s slavery to the power of sin. Men are not only guilty before God and deserving of death, they are also in a position of utter hopelessness. They do not have the power, strength or inner ability to repent, turn over a new leaf and start obeying God’s law. Man’s only hope is to look to Jesus Christ who saves from the guilt and the power of sin. To everyone who rejects man’s depravity we ask one simple question: “Can you go even one single day without committing sin?” “Can you stop your own mind from ever thinking impure thoughts?” The answer to these questions is obvious. Fourth, the state of man’s heart explains the utter foolishness and idiocy that we find throughout the world. After discussing man’s rejection of God and the darkness of man’s heart, Paul describes man’s idolatry and immorality. The Idolatry of Man Thus far in Paul’s argumentation we have noted that: (a) all men are continually suppressing the truth about God. (b) They refuse to honor God as God and give Him the worship and service that He deserves. (c) As a result they have darkened, reprobate hearts that hate God and are enslaved to sin. The depraved state of man’s heart is a result of a judicial act of God. In order to expand his teaching on the sinful, depraved condition of mankind Paul will elaborate further on man’s degenerate state and the religious and ethical perversions in which it resulted. The apostle first deals with idolatry which is both an act of suppression and a result of suppression and then turns his attention to immorality. There are a number of things to note about idolatry in connection with the suppression of the knowledge of the true God. (1) Because of man’s nature (as an inherently religious being), when God is rejected substitutes are created to fill the void. All worldviews and philosophical systems that are not Christian are at bottom religious faith-systems. This observation is just as true of the animists who worship sticks as it is of the secular humanist who claims to be an agnostic and purely “scientific.” Every worldview has faith commitments to things or ideas that cannot be proved by direct observation. The atheistic naturists who dogmatically assert that man evolved from a primordial slime have never observed macro-evolution take place. In fact, the empirical evidence against macro-evolution is overwhelming and continues to grow. Men cling to absurd theories and ideas with a blind faith because they refuse to acknowledge the truth about God. “They exchanged the truth of God for the lie” (Rom. 1:25). (2) Paul emphasizes the evil, abominable nature of idolatry by contrasting the incorruptibility of God with the corruptibility of man (Rom. 1:23). All forms of idolatry are a rejection of the creator-creature distinction. In rejecting the infinite, holy, perfect, immutable God of Scripture, men embrace that which is purely immanent, that which is created, fallen, decaying, changing and corruptible. In making this statement Paul is emphasizing the foolishness of idol worship (note that v. 23 is connected to verse 22 by the conjunction “and”). On the one side, Paul says, we have that which is holy, infinite, pure, just, righteous, all-powerful, all-knowing, unchanging, and full of goodness, mercy and truth. But on the other side we have fallen man: finite, sinful, depraved, filthy, unjust, and subject to death and decay. Only someone is totally spiritually blind and completely depraved would chose corruptible man and even beasts over Jehovah who is pure light in whom dwells no darkness (1 Jn. 1:15). Idolatry is madness, insanity, foolishness and blasphemy. (3) In all forms of idolatry man himself is the god-maker. Thus, in every false system man is the ultimate source of meaning and ethics. While the believer defines God and the world according to the infallible Word of God and thus thinks God’s thoughts after Him, the unbeliever is in rebellion against God’s revelation (whether general or special) and thus puts an anti-God construction upon all reality. The unbeliever creates his own reality and his own god. Because the unbeliever’s staring point is apostate (i.e. the reprobate mind) he interprets reality in terms of an existence independent of God. For the unbeliever facts are not God-created and God-controlled facts but are brute facts that must receive organization and meaning only from man himself, independent of the Bible. Everything the unbeliever does is shaped by his ethical hostility to God. In other words, in all forms of idolatry, ultimately it is man that is god over all gods. Man looks at the world and decides for himself what type of religion will meet his needs. Man observes reality and arbitrarily determines his own ethical standard. While he does all this he claims to be objective and scientific. He claims to have put behind him the superstitions of Christianity in order to bring forth an enlightened scientific age. But is the unbeliever really scientific and objective? No. As we have seen he views reality through the grid of hostility to God and his embrace of false gods, of a non-Christian worldview. For example, the man who claims to be a rationalist, who says that he will attain the truth only through reason or logic, always reasons in an anti-God direction. Why? First, he starts with apostate axioms, with anti-Christian presuppositions. He, even before observing reality, says the God of Scripture cannot exist. Second, in judging what is true or false or what is reasonable, anything that does not fit into his non-Christian presuppositions of reality (e.g. objective ethics, special revelation, miracles, creation ex nihilo, etc) is automatically deemed irrational no matter what the evidence says. The same thing is true of the empiricist who says that he can determine the truth by looking at the facts around him, by organizing and analyzing “brute facts.” But once again the empiricist observes reality through the lens of his apostate presuppositions. He automatically discards any “fact” that does not fit into his paradigm. Further, he perverts the “facts” because he interprets them according to his apostate, God-hating starting point. Thus, modern science is not really scientific in any of the theoretical areas. It is deeply religious with a blind faith in a totally absurd, non-factual worldview (macro-evolution). Isaiah pointed out the utter foolishness of idolatry by noting that men make and control their idols. “They lavish gold out of the bag, and weigh silver on the scales; they hire a goldsmith, and he makes it a god; they prostrate themselves, yes, they worship. They bear it on the shoulder, they carry it and set it in its place, and it stands; from its place it shall not move. Though one cries out to it, yet it cannot answer nor save him out of his trouble” (Isa. 46:6-7). Paul warned us that all human philosophies are against the Lord Jesus Christ, “Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the basic principles of the world and not according to Christ” (Col. 2:8 ). There is a radical antithesis between believing and unbelieving thought. (4) Paul teaches that the first two commandments which require us to believe in, serve and worship the true God alone are foundational to the whole moral law of God. In Romans 1, the root of all sin is exchanging the true God for false gods. This point is a continuation of verse 18 which places ungodliness before unrighteousness. In verses 23, 25 and 28 after discussing the true God Paul mentions the moral consequences of rejecting the Lord: “ Therefore God also gave them over to uncleanness” (v. 26); “God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting” (v. 28 ). Unbelief in the true God leads to sexual perversion, in particular homosexuality and lesbianism (vs. 24, 26, 27 ). It also leads to sinful vices of every sort (vs. 29-31 ). Why does a rejection of the true God lead inexorably to moral degeneracy? The main reason is that laws are always theologically based. One’s ethical system will always be a mirror reflection of one’s concept of God or ultimate reality. If concepts of morality are to rest on some conviction of ultimacy one must have faith in a personal, infinite God who is holy, righteous and just and who will hold everyone accountable for their actions. The Greeks and Romans worshiped false gods that were immoral, arbitrary, perverse and violent. Thus, irrespective of their talk about love and virtue, their societies became ethical cesspools filled with all sorts of sexual perversion, violence and injustice. The ancient fertility cults of the Middle East and Africa worshiped gods obsessed with sex and thus ritual prostitution, fornication and adultery became integral aspects of these degenerate cultures. The modern secular humanism so prominent in the world today is not any better than the superstitions of Rome, Greece or Canaan. Humanism denies the transcendent God who gives us moral absolutes; that is, laws that are non-negotiable and unchanging. The god of humanism is man. Therefore, the source of humanistic law is either: (a) whatever each individual decides (anarchism); (b) the determinations of an intellectual elite (e.g. socialism, Marxism and communism); (c) the opinions of the majority of society (democracy); or (d) a combination of two or more of the above. For example, in the United States there is fiat law from courts which function as an elite class. There is the direct determination of law by the masses via referendum. And there are the fiat laws created by elected representatives. (Since the early twentieth century America has shifted in large part from a constitutional republic to a participatory, semi-constitutional, fascist state. [Fascism is here being used in the sense of a state that leaves the means of production in private hands, yet heavily taxes and regulates the means of production to serve the Leviathan state]). Introduction In Romans 1:18 and following Paul begins a discussion of the wrath of God against wicked men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness. The apostle proves that all men are without excuse because they suppress the truth about the living God revealed unto them. In verse 21 and following Paul will further explain verses 18 through 20. The connection between the suppression of the knowledge of God, ungodliness and unrighteousness and God’s wrath will receive clarification and amplification. In verse 21 to 31 Paul will show that the suppression of the knowledge of God involves replacement. Instead of glorifying God they became futile in their thoughts (v. 21). They exchanged the glory of God for idols (v. 23); the truth of God for the lie (v. 25); the knowledge of God for a debased mind (v. 28 ). In rejecting God, wisdom is replaced with foolishness and true worship and service with rank idolatry. Man is a religious being who cannot exist in a vacuum. His rejection of God involves a turning toward foolishness and idolatry. Those people who reject God are epistemologically, ethically and religiously bankrupt. Paul not only describes the manner in which people suppress the truth about God but also the consequences. Three times Paul makes a direct connection between the rejection of God and God’s retribution against those who reject the truth: “Therefore, God also gave them up to uncleanness” (v. 24); “For this reason God gave them up to vile passions” (v. 26 ); “God gave them over to a debased mind to do those things which are not fitting” (v. 28 ). “In Paul’s exposition of the outworking of the wrath of God, he develops the same logical process of deterioration, according to the principle he has established in verses 18-20. That is, the general pattern of his argument recurs in verses 21-24, 25-27 and 28-31 repeated with horrifying emphasis.”] The climax to Paul’s argumentation comes in verse 32 where he says that those who practice such things are worthy of death. All men are guilty and deserve God’s sentence of condemnation against them. As we study this section of Scripture we will consider the following: (1) the foolishness of man; (2) the idolatry of man; and (3) the judgment upon man. All of these things are intimately connected in Paul’s argument. An understanding of these things will reveal man’s dire predicament apart from Christ. The Foolishness of Man Paul teaches that all men have knowledge of the true God and because of this knowledge they should glorify God. That is, they ought to render to God the honor that He deserves because of who He is. Also, all men should thank Him for all the benefits of this life, even our very existence, which all come from Him. The apostle teaches that everyone has a moral obligation to worship and serve the living and true God who exists. But what do men do? They reject God. They turn away from Him and create idols: false worldviews, erroneous philosophies and satanic religions. What is involved in this rejection of God? It involves a darkening of the heart of man. Paul will use different terms and expressions to describe the corruption of the human mind: “ Their foolish hearts were darkened” (v. 21); “they became fools” (v. 22 ), “they became futile in their thoughts” (v. 21); and “God gave them over to a debased mind” (v. 28 ). Paul teaches that idolatry and all sin begins in the human heart or mind. An examination of the words and phrases related to this corruption will help us understand unsaved man’s hostility toward God and his self-imposed blindness to reality. (1) The apostle says that men became “futile in their thoughts.” The word (Gk. Emaraiothesan) translated “vain” (KJV), “futile” (NKJV, NASB) or “futility” (NEB) has the sense of empty, useless, pointless. There is no true or useful content to autonomous human reasoning. It is a complete waste of time. In Scripture the word has a very negative connotation and refers to people, things or thoughts that are both foolish and wicked. The idols of the heathen are called vanities. Peter refers to “aimless conduct” (1 Pet. 1:18 ) which in context means unbiblical-corrupt conduct. Paul speaks of Gentiles who “walk, in the futility of their mind” (Eph. 4:17). That is, they are living in accordance with their blind and corrupt minds. The word “thoughts” (dialogismois) translated as “thinking” (RSV, NIV), “imaginations” (KJV), “speculations” (NASB), “reasonings” (YLTB,[3] Lenski) and “argumentations” (J. B. Phillips) refers to the thoughts or thinking in man’s mind. Although the word is neutral in itself, here it is modified by the word “futile” and refers to evil, useless thoughts (i.e. thoughts that are made independently of God and revelation). The word is almost always used in a negative sense in the New Testament. (2) Paul says that “their foolish hearts were darkened” (v. 21). The word “heart” (Gk. kardia) is the most comprehensive term for all our faculties whether feeling (Rom. 9:2), will (1 Cor. 4:5), intellect (Rom. 5:5).”[4] We should not confuse the term with its modern usage which focuses on the emotions. When Paul uses this term he identifies everything that makes man human. Therefore, when the apostle says that their hearts are darkened, he means that every aspect of man is darkened. The word darkened (Gk. eokotisthe) is a rich term in Scripture and refers to more than blindness in this passage. In rejecting God, men have become blind or without knowledge of the truth and they have become corrupt, evil and depraved. The Bible connects man’s lack of knowledge of spiritual truth with the state of his heart and his ethical corruption. “And this is the condemnation that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil” (Jn. 3:19). When men reject God they not only suppress the truth concerning God and embrace idols, they also embrace autonomous ethics and make themselves the judge of what is right and wrong. They commit evil and call it good. (3) The apostle identifies those who reject God as fools. They have “foolish hearts” (v. 21); “professing to be wise, they become fools” (v. 22). It is ironic that unbelievers think they are wise. They appeal to science, philosophy and human wisdom in their rejection of God. But in reality they are fools. Their theories, false religions, philosophies and viewpoints by which they reject God are utterly absurd, irrational and untenable. Yet in their flight from God and truth they proudly embrace nonsense. The Greek verb emoranthesan translated “became fools” (from moros, a fool) has an ethical connotation. Hodge writes: “We find throughout the Scriptures the idea of foolishness and sin, of wisdom and piety, intimately connected. In the language of the Bible, a fool is an impious man; the wise are the pious, those who fear God; foolishness is sin; understanding is [true] religion. The folly and darkness of which the apostle here speaks are therefore expressive of want of divine knowledge, which is both the effect and cause of moral depravity.”[5] Once again, we find a biblical connection between knowledge and ethics. According to Scripture unbelievers are engaged in both intellectual and moral folly. The two go hand in hand. Thus, the Psalmist says, “The fool has said in his heart, ‘There is no God’” (Ps. 14:1). On the flip side Solomon says, “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom” (Pr. 1:7). Because every created fact points to the true God, unbelievers must embrace the absurd or the ridiculous in order to suppress the truth. All their claims to wisdom are willful rejections of the truth in favor of the lie. All their theories are gross idols from their corrupt imagination. “[H]aving forsaken the truth of God, they turned to the vanity of their own reason, all the acuteness of which is fading and passes away like vapor. And thus their foolish mind, being involved in darkness, could understand nothing aright, but was carried away headlong, in various ways, into errors and delusions.” In verse 28 Paul says, “God gave them over to a debased mind.” The Greek phrase “adokimon roun” is not easily reproduced in English and is translated in a number of different ways: depraved mind (NASB, NIV, John Stott), reprobate mind (KJV), base mind (RSV), depraved reason (NEB), worthless disposition (William Hendriksen), disapproved mind (YLTB), “a mind void of discernment” (F. L. Godet). The Greek word translated “debased” can be translated “disqualified” (1 Cor. 9:27; 2 Cor. 13:5; Tit. 1:16; the old KJV “reprobate”), “disapproved” (2 Tim. 3:8 ), “rejected” (Heb. 6:8 ). Paul is describing a mind that has failed the test by rejecting God and thus in turn is rejected or disapproved by God. The word reprobate best conveys the meaning in context because Paul is describing a mind that is rejected by God and abandoned or given over to its own depravity. “A reprobate mind is therefore not fit for any activity worthy of approbation or esteem.”[7] “Because they have rejected God as not worth reckoning with, God has delivered them into a condition in which their minds are fit only to be rejected as worthless, useless for their proper purpose, disreputable.”[8] Such a mind is thoroughly corrupt and is capable only of corrupt thought and depraved behavior. |
