Car Talk / Re: Advice Needed For A Sienna: 2gr Engine Or 3mz Engine by franklin93(m): 7:01pm On Dec 06, 2023
Actually, I don't know much about the fuel economy of the 3MZ and 2GR on a sienna.

A lot of factors come into play here. If the sienna is powered by a 2GR on AWD system, it will likely take more fuel. Note that the fuel economy of these engines is dependent on the cars the engines are used in.

I have a 2004 Lexus ES330 with the 3MZ engine and I can confidently tell you it is more fuel efficient than a Toyota camry big daddy (04) with a 2AZ 4 cylinder engine and a Honda EOD 4 cylinder I once owned. I cannot complain when it comes to the fuel efficiency of the 3MZ.

Honda is cheaper to maintain more so, it is more fuel efficient. Thanks to the 5 speed automatic gearbox as against the corolla traditional 4 speed automatic gearbox. Remember, both engine has a displacement of 1.8Litre. Handling: Honda wins
Power: Honda wins
Styling: Honda wins
Fuel economy: Honda wins
Realiability: Its a draw.
Resale value: Toyota wins

Car Talk / Re: Problem: My Reverse Gear Gives A Scary Jerk With A Sound. by franklin93(m): 10:02pm On Jan 04, 2020
Valvebody needs to be checked. More so, your transmission oil pressure switch need to be checked & replace if need be. Biggest culprit is the gearbox sensor attached to the body of the gearbox. Sometimes they have 6 bolts or more.

I don't know much about Mitsubishi but if your mechanic said that then it means you have an interference engine. However, I think your engine can be rebuilt. All you need is to buy new timing belt, grind the bent valves or buy new ones & also inspect your pistons; if they have been torn apart you can replace them if the parts are available & lastly u get a new head gasket & your car should be fine. It happens to a lot of vehicles like WV, peugeot, kia, hyundai, mazda & other models & they don't need to buy am engine. On the average fixing it should cost you less than 30k all depends on how much you your belt cost & nature of damage as well hoping your pistons is torn apart

mumayo:
please I need expert opinion. my Mitsubishi Chariot (GDI) suddenly stopped after a sound while on motion. called my mechanic who informed me that the Timing belt has cut and that I have to buy a new engine. please is this in line because the price he's quoting for a tokunbo engine don weak me

That issue is peculiar to the Honda accords & Honda CRV manufactured between 1999 & 2007 simply because their ball joint were poorly designed & couldn't withstand excessive wear & tear. More so, it can be avoided if the driver paid enough attention to them. The ball joint aren't expensive. Sold for about 1500 naira each & could last you for a year once changed depending on your driving habit & the kind of road you drive the car on. Later models from 2008 till date don't have that issue anymore including the Honda Accord, Honda City, Honda civic & all newer models.

i have changed the hub, the bushings, and even the shock absorbers

but problem persists

please what could be wrong, what do i need to do

is there an expert in Lagos that can fix this.

I have had similar experience. Rear wheel alignment was done, stabilizer bar was equally adjusted, stabilizer linkage was also change and the car was perfect. Meanwhile have a look at Bush Bushings. Goodluck

True that. Happened to me as well. Got coils from Gazzuzz, swapped and the jerking disappeared meanwhile every mechanic I engaged said my coils were okay.

Hello Folks, I really appreciate everyone's suggestion. I glad to announce to you all that my vehicle is running perfect ones again. Indeed the coil was the culprit here. One of them was damaged at the neck which could only be seen if you uninstalled & removed the straight tube attached to it to have a visual inspection. Got a new coil & then use silicon gum of the necks & all was fine.

Lesson to learn.

1. Coils might be damaged even if they sensitive to disconnecting the coil wiring harness/wiring sockets.

2. Coils could actually leak from the plastics tubes.

3. Vehicle might not misfire while on idle, neutral or park and yet still have a bad coil.

4. Vehicle jerking is synonymous to plug misfire, coil misfire, fuel pump and injectors but to diagnose the fault it's better to start from the basics like inspection of plugs and coils before progressing to more complex parts.

Smiles, have you used city before? Mine had no rough idle, fires very well on neutral.... Scanned and scanned no fault code....highly placed mechanics and rewire checked it.... Boss all of them were mentioning mounts, fuel pump, nozzles and all....
My junior brother and I were the one who got the culprits..and we took it to the most unlikely place to be fixed...

Other referenced mechanic checked the coils too, but none saw it..

Thanks bro. Actually am suspecting these coils. It happened to me weeks ago so I changed two coils and it stopped suddenly it began again. Am with a mechanic now. I will update u guys on our findings

Just a quick question. Does the vibrations when you start driving clear out after few seconds? Is it more noticeable when climbing a hill?

Vibration on reverse can also be caused by bad engine seats. You may need to have a tech test drive and ascertain for sure.

The vehicle is jerks while on drive or reverse. It is stable while in park or neutral. The jerking is noticeable when the vehicle temperature has risen like after 20 minutes of steady driving. It does not vibrate but jerks as if there is a misfire but when you stop the vehicle and fire it there is no sign of engine misfire.

07 Honda City Replace your transmission oil with Honda CVT fluid. You should be fine. That transmission is notorious for that particular vibration. If you refuse to when it starts jerking, well, a new transmission may be loading.

Thanks for your advise. Please where can I get the CVT fluid?

I had a similar challenge with my Honda city last year.... It was crazy..... But as crazy as it was, it was solved with just #500.

In my case, it was the coil, I only repackaged it with silicone gum.

So, are you sure those coils are good?

They may seem good but could be the problem.... There's a way we test coil, I don't knowhat if you know how to. Check for electric spark(i hope you understand this)...if there's any tiny spark noise, there you have the cause.

Check your fuel pump too...
Check your fuel injectors too(the call it nozzle) if they supply well.

It took me about two months to resolve mine that year... After I had changed fuel pump(complete), washed fuel tank, changed complete fuel injectors/ nozzles, even I changed airflow sensor....
Only to discover that two coils were the culprit. They were sparking slightly

Thanks for your post. I really appreciate. Fuel pump replaced, nozzles serviced & they are firing well, fuel filter replaced, fuel tank very neat, plugs replaced and yet the problem persist. I guess we have to look at the coils again. I just hope is not transmission related.

Car Talk / Catalyst Converter Good Or Bad News For Peugeot 406 by franklin93(m): 11:26am On Nov 02, 2018

Car Talk / Re: How Reliable Is Peugeot 607? by franklin93(m): 6:43pm On Aug 02, 2018
I have owned a peugeot 406 inline 4 cylinder (ew10) & lastly the peugeot 406 v6 which I eventually sold because of gas mileage since I signed up on Uber. After selling the V6, I used a Honda accord & now a Toyota yaris. I must say that I miss my peugeot, very reliable. Am only with the yaris cos of fuel economy for my business but that aside, the peugeot is a better car of all I have used.

Have you ever wondered why you have so many peugeot littered all over the streets of Abuja & Northern Nigeria known for rough terrain.? The answer is simply because of their reliability just like the way you see Toyota everywhere. If it was a bad brand you won't see them scattered allover the city & Northern Nigeria with the toughest terrains in Nigeria.

Do people still buy Nissan Murano's & Infiniti FX 35, 45 & most infiniti brands? The answer is NO. Now that's the definition of a bad product. Mercedes car is known for luxury & class but that's not to say they don't have their issues. Most recent Benz products from year 2008 till date are only good when they are new & they are prone to a lot of electrical issues due to a million sensors that controls most of the luxury gadgets and all. I have close pals that use Benz & sometimes they get frustrated with the electrical issues that never stops immediately they start giving issues. Resale value for most German cars is zero. It was war before my friend was able to sell his Mercedes E350 2008 model, eventually Cars45 bought it for 1.2million naira because he was frustrated with the vehicle springing up surprises daily.

In all, German cars are known for luxury & Class but that shouldn't be mistaken for reliability. The recent models are reliable in there own way but the most reliable Germans are from 2005 models down to the 90s.

abatically:

We can compare different cars based on their class, but only someone with a completely BIASED mind would even think of comparing a Peugeot 308 with a Mercedes Benz S class. Any person that does that should never be taken seriously, u sef think am. For someone to even think a Peeugeot 308 is better than a Mercedes Benz S class, then that person will also tell u a peugeot 206 is better than a G Wagon. No wonder someone here said a Peugeot 505 is his favorite full sized luxury sedan even when it is obvious the car is not even a full sized not to talk of luxury sedan.

Thanks for your reply. In testing the 02 sensor connector, bank 1 sensor 1 I connected the black wire of the multimeter to the negative terminal of my battery while the car was in ignition with the dashboard lights on. I then connected the red wire to each of the pins on the connector. I set the multimeter to voltage sector (200v). The connector pin is 4 in number and one of them displayed 12v, the other showed 0, the third one showed 1. 2v while the forth pins showed 2.2v. For the 02 sensor itself, I switched to ohms reading on the multimeter and selected 200ohms, I then connected the black and red wire of the multimeter to the two black wires which is suppose to be the heater wires and it read 0.9 for the fuses, I tested fuse number 19, 23 and number 4. No 19 was under the hood while 23 and 4 was under the dash. I used a bulb connected to a negative and positive signal wires. I used the hinge on my door as a ground and as I tested the two points on each fuse they all produced currents thereby lighting the bulbs. Pls what's your location? Am in abuja

AutoElectNG:

I am confused too... How do I help you from afar? What is your background? How good are you with electricals/electronics? How adept are you at using a multimeter? Can you tell me step by step how you measured everything? What was the black probe connected to and the red probe connected to for each of the values displayed above? As well as when you tested the 3 listed fuses.

Maybe from the information supplied I will know whether to tell you what to do or request for a chance to do it for you!
Car Talk / Re: Where Can I Get A Well Educated Honda Electrician In Abuja by franklin93(m): 12:48pm On May 09, 2018
Good day bro, I have tested the 02 sensor to know the heater voltage and it showed me 0.9 more so I tested the connector and it displayed 12v, one of the wire showed 1.2v and the other 2.2v while one of them showed 0 (nothing) . I equally tested the fuse no. 4, 23 and 19 and all had current in them. Am confused.

AutoElectNG:

A/F sensor measures the air to fuel ratio used by the engine. When it goes bad, the computer no longer uses the best possible values to calculate fuel to air ratio but default values which are rather generous, hence the poor fuel consumption.

The possible issues are:

The connector is bad.

There is an open in the sensor wiring.

The sensor itself has failed.

Did you replace with a new one? Did you replace with tokunbo? Did you replace with an exact fit? Same part number?
OEM Part Number: 36531-RAA-A02 / 36531 RAA A02 / 36531RAAA02

If the job was properly done, the code would not come back.

The DTC is designed to come back within one trip once the enabling criteria is seen by the monitors run by the ECU. https://www.nairaland.com/3661728/on-board-diagnostics-obd-ii-questions/3#54620232 (what is a trip) and https://www.nairaland.com/3661728/on-board-diagnostics-obd-ii-questions/3#54619228 (what is a monitor)

If the sensor is new and an exact fit, then the problem is going to lie with the connector or the wiring to/from the sensor.
