If you calmly look at things you’ll see NATO is just a ruse. Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, are all already parts of NATO. What Russia is concerned about is not NATO. Their concern is that sooner or later Ukraine would develop nukes. The true purpose of this war is to remove or delay the possibility that Ukraine would ever develop nukes!

But can’t you see? Ukraine will never qualify to join NATO. So it’ll serve as a buffer between NATO and Russia. Meanwhile Russia has big influence there and will eventually be able to instal a puppet ruler. But if Ukraine becomes just Russia, then Russia will have NATO right at their border - the very thing they’re trying to avoid!
