Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Salary Of A Staff In An Audit Firm by Fremaxx: 5:34pm On Jun 04, 2023
Which big 4 pay this huge?
IcedMusk1995:

Inaccurate. I work in a big 4 firm. The current entry level salary is about 200k. In less than 1 year it would go up to 290-310 depending on performance metrics. In less than 2 years you could be earning well over 350k.. so what are you saying?

Education / Re: Apply For 2022/2023 PTDF Overseas Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme by Fremaxx: 6:55am On Jun 03, 2022
The old professor is actually right for debunking your research proposal. Even with a nuclear waste management proposal, how does it relate to the oil and gas sector. There is no radioactive activity in the oil and gas sector in Nigeria. Even if you want to use a radioactive stuff, who would fund it?
I am sorry to say but you didn't choose a great research topic for ptdf.
As old as the professor maybe, I totally agree with him.
A topic in petrophysics would have been better than a nuclear topic. Nuclear in oil & gas. Do you know how regulated nuclear activity in Nigeria?
I had a similar experience with an interviewer in 2019, he told me that a gas condensate is for undergraduate research. I had to add a modern technology stuff to it before he could believe me. I didn't get the scholarship.

The purpose of the interview is to know who is actually interested in studying in his/her respective field relating to oil and gas in Nigeria. Nuclear is irrelevant in Nigeria.

Don't blame the interviewer.
mrphysics:
I have to share my interview experience, it was bad, I mean very bad but wasn't my fault anyway.

So I went in to meet a 2-man panel. They were of course other panels having 3 persons but when it was my turn, it was the panel with 2 persons that were empty and had requested for an applicant. I was feeling lucky believing I had 2 persons to deal with without knowing it was a bad omen for me. grin grin grin

So they checked all my documents, everything was fine, I had everything with me, but not the panelist. So when it was time for me to present, all hell broke loose. I couldn't believe they were people in this generation and a professor in that matter that haven't heard of nuclear. The very moment I mentioned Nuclear (it doesn't matter how I want to apply the nuclear), he stopped me and said "Nuclear in this Nigeria??" The professor was a very old man with little or no knowledge of the current research. I mentioned the use of Monte Carlo Neutron Transport Codes, but he head of only Monte Carlo and chuckled, saying it was what they used 40-50 years ago shocked shocked Haba, Prof. Calm down and listen nah, but he wasn't having any of it.

I mentioned nuclear waste management, and cleaning of oil spillage, he interrupted me and questioned how can I be mentioning nuclear waste in energy management. He even questioned if nuclear has waste? Jesus, I couldn't believe what happened yesterday. grin grin It was very funny anyway.

So that was how it went yesterday. It was bad with Prof. But then you don't blame him, Prof. didn't believe Ajaokuta steel can work, he said I should forget about what the government was saying that its a scam and just a consultancy project. He was very proud, but I reminded him that the reason why Geregu powerplant was sited very close to Ajaokuta was to supply electricity to the plant. I told him everything he needs to be convinced but then, his mind was made up and I can't change that. Prof. didn't know that Nigeria currently produce 4000MWe of electricity, when I told him that he said it was not true, I told him to check the internet.

He said the only thing that the government should do is to produce energy from Gas, and that Gas is a clean source of energy. We went to Germany where he mentioned that they shut down all their reactors and I told him that they were importing 34% of their electricity demand from France, he said it wasn't true, I told him it was and that the internet is there for him to check. And now asked him what he thinks Germany will do now with the Ukraine Was and stoppage of the gas flow, he got the point anyway.

Well, it was bad with Prof. but the second guy was amazed though openly didn't want to disagree with Prof. manner, so when Prof. went to fetch his tea, we had a good discussion and he even told me to wait and greet Prof. before I leave.

In summary, it wasn't smooth but then, there is nothing to worry about. If I get it fine, if I didn't get it, next year, I will meet prof. again.

For audit, the case study was on real audit scenerio where a senior manager was handling audit engagement with a difficult client or something with tight deadline. I can't remember
There were up to 8 questions like who are the stakeholders, what would you advise if there is something happens. What if something come up how would you handle it.

You just need to analyze, read and understand the Deloitte core values and use that to tackle the questions.
Mind you, you only have like 45 minutes to answer by typing your response. Just list your points when you're answering.
Goodluck

Hi Ennyj01 please do you have an idea of what the case study questions were like. Thank you
Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Entry Level Salaries Of Companies In Nigeria by Fremaxx: 11:06pm On Nov 23, 2021
For GTBank interview as far as I know is one of the best modern interview I have ever had. This is a fair process

There are two stages of interview.

The first is the competency based interview with HR personnel. The interviewers will tell you to use a STAR method (situation, task Action and result) to answer with relevant real life sceneries from university days, day to day activities or previous work experience. Questions revolve around how you displayed team work, innovation, customer eccentric, tackle or solve problem. These are basically from the 8 orange rules of the company from GTBank core values.

After you succeed with the first, you'll be invited to the second stage interview with a senior management personnel, just prepare for a regular interview as well as competency based questions, try impress them with your background knowledge of the bank by researching the core values, mission and vision. They might ask about your plans in the next 3-5 years. Please note that you'll be a trainee, you're there to learn on the job. Hopefully that answers the question.

I hope my 2 cents is helpful.

I understand.
Good insight.
I wish I had passed the test stage

Eficator:

From the original calendar schedule, final day of interview for 2021 graduate program was supposed to be 23rd of July while resumption was slated for 4th of October. I strongly believe this schedule was done base on the fact that the date for the company to resume back to office was still not know.

At some point the firm was now reconsidering resuming back to office by September, final interview for the graduate program was now brought backward to 16th of July as against the initiall 23rd which left many persons to guess that they might also be reconsidering resumption for 2021 graduate to be September. Remember there will definitely be two batches if it is a physical resumption as against one for a virtual.
So my guess is since the firm is planning to abort the plan of resuming physically by September, hence the October resumption for the graduate program will still be fine as everyone can resume at once virtually.
I hope you understand my point.
Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Pwc Graduate Recruitment 2021 by Fremaxx: 8:09pm On Aug 06, 2021
I don't think working remotely will affect resumption. Fresh associates were hired last year during the work from home. Training can be done virtually. However, working remotely might affect HR personnel to shift their on-boarding schedule. At this point, I think everyone should be patient.
Eficator:
So I think the possibility of we resuming September in the office is now very slim as I heard the firm is considering aborting their plans of resuming back to office by September due to the new wave of Corona coming.

So I believe they are taking their time since October is still far.

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Nigeria's Best-paying Jobs by Fremaxx: 11:21pm On Jul 19, 2021
Valid analysis
Advision:
Depends on your employer, years of experience and if you are working in your industry as a line or outside your industry as a support staff.

An accountant in a small indigenous oil & gas firm can earn 1.2M net per annum as a trainee.

Same accountant in a multinational upstream firm can do 18M per annum.

An accountant in a multinational audit firm with 15-20 years experience can do 200M per annum (partner level). Same accountant will probably do less than 10% of that if he were to work in a company as a support staff.

While an IT expert that is a support staff in a multinational audit even with 20 years experience may not do up to 20M.

A quick one, do ACCA foundation diploma courses count as two or more certificates with BSC degree? Or one has to be chartered ACCA before it counts? Especially for WES evaluation.

What a smart way to have a study partner
justbehappy:
Who needs a study partner for the next one week. We would study together preferably at night, tackling the numerical and verbal questions!! Please, send me an email via Nairaland and we connect from there. I have a lot of past questions we can tackle.

Modalities:
3-4hrs daily (Numerical 2hrs and Verbal 2hrs).
Platform - Google Meets as we would be sharing our screens while studying.
Checking up on each other and giving feedback on study methods.
Cracking many exam secrets and analyzing them holistically.
1 person, preferably a female who applied for Advisory but not limited to that, Assurance and Tax can also be picked.

PS: I applied for Advisory Services and have about 2+ years of experience in the Technology and Energy space.

Thanks so much.
