how many times have we heard that same story?
Recent interview with the minister of power on tv. The man mentioned 384bn naira plus an additional 16bn naira totalling 400bn but the government is concerned about the impact of sudden flush of that volume of cash in circulation. Why I no read economics for school?

The federal government will be paying the gratuities of Nepal workers soon. Any chance that can increase the rates we get from treasury bills? Almost 400 billion naira pushed into the economy almost at once.

Desanta: My Bank (FBN) usually demand that I place my bid/ money a day (Tuesdays) before the auction. So I think the auction is on Wednesday and then by Thursday those who were successful will be informed.
Was informed that since Thursday and Friday are holidays, we won't know if we are successful till next week Monday.

Elai147: Why don't you send them an email instead of wasting your time in the branch. Since I started T-bill investment I have never visited any branch (First bank & Keystone) for its purpose. I always send my instructions via email to them and they carry out the instructions (response time is usually within 24/48 hours). I only send my instructions to their head office and the head office in turn forward my request to my local branch). Sending your instructions directly to the head office makes the response time quicker. Stop stressing yourself going to a branch office because most of the people that will attend to you may not even know about T-bill dealings and may end up giving you wrong information on rates and others. There are specific bank workers that handles Treasury Bills in a bank- not all the workers can help you with the information you require.
Thanks for all the advice. My email to the head office cause wahala for the staff. Was at the bank again today and I saw the manager who demanded to know which staff gave me bad information regarding treasury bills. Thankfully, was able to buy some small amount...

Does anyone have any ideas as to when the next treasury bills would be auctioned. Meanwhile CBN has revoked licenses of some discount houses. Hope that doesn't translate to loss of investor funds...

I don tire for GTB. I left my town to travel to another town to find out about how they can buy treasury bills on my behalf from the primary market and after spending about 1 hour being tossed up and down the guy I meet tells me they have not done any treasury bills transactions recently so he doesn't know much about it but that it is common in lagos.

Which kain thing be this?
PoliticsRe: Senate Declares Airport, Kubwa Roads Death Traps by fsb(m): 7:24pm On Jul 30, 2013
stagger: This is total BS.

There are very few roads in Nigeria that can match the quality of work and standard that those two roads present. I drive them every blessed day in Abuja and there are no issues.

The only problem has to do with the ATTITUDE OF DRIVERS who have utilized the extremely smooth surfaces of these two roads to turn them into race tracks. How for instance can a driver be speeding at 140km per hour on a road with high vehicular traffic and not expect something bad to happen?

How many of our drivers even know how to interpret the road signs that the DRTS has graciously placed on all roads in the FCT? I bet Senator Smart Adeyemi himself will not be able to identify half of them.

He should be more concerned with the dualization of the road that leads from Abuja to his own state, and the one that criss-crosses his senatorial district on the way to the South-West.

One is tired of all these sensational politicians!
My brother thank you for your post. When accidents happen on bad roads they say the roads are terrible. When they happen on perfectly smooth, 10 lane roads they say it is due to obsolete design.

I lived in Abuja until recently and accidents will continue to happen on those roads esp ONEX road because:
1. A lot of money-just-come-buy-'new'-tokunbo with ZERO driving experience start dragging with experienced hands at high speeds
2. Careless driving by so-called experienced drivers (I once saw a car swerve from the fast lane into the service lane and he got himself bashed luckily not by a trailer)
3. Nigerian factor: in this case the boldness to disobey driving laws with reckless abandon because we are a national of lawlessness.

Elai147: Yes go to another branch or a different bank but don't ask them if they have T-bills for sale. Just tell them to buy for you from the next market auction. Make sure you send your request to them at least 24 hours before the auction date. Try not to bid too high or too low. To be on the safer side, you can avoid specifying a bid by allowing your bank buy your T-bill at the best prevailing money market rate. This way, they will most probably purchase your T-bills at a good bid rate- not too low and not too high.
Thanks my brother. Make it join the progressive band wagon...
InvestmentRe: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by fsb(m): 4:17pm On Jul 29, 2013
Abeg is there anyone using GTB to get treasury bills. I wanna buy into the next auction coming up next week. WHAT documentation is required. Thanks
InvestmentRe: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by fsb(m): 2:33pm On Jul 29, 2013
Elai147: The guy must be a crook. He probably wanted you to buy from their own T-bill holdings which is not a bad idea but the rate he offered was not worth it. He should have told you when the next auction date is scheduled for so that you can send in your bid request prior to the next auction. Next time, tell them that you are only interested in buying from the primary market auction.
So it's to go to another branch be that. He offered 6% per month for 30 day tenor which sounded like he wasn't sure so I asked is that per annum or per month. Anyway seems I should get to a different branch.
InvestmentRe: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by fsb(m):
Progressives, good morning. I went to Gtb to inquire about treasury bills of 91 day tenor and the guy said they only have for 30 day tenor at the rate of 6% per month according to him.

I don't trust stockbrokers and discount houses. Its easy for them to collect your money, but very very hard for them to pay back to you.
Can you give us your experience? So it's better to get your treasury bills through the banks than discount houses
InvestmentRe: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by fsb(m):
Glad to have a progressive thread on NL. Seems treasury bills are the way to go in Nigeria as the fixed deposit interest rates are nothing to write home about.

With respect to the previous posters' comment, does anyone have information about TBS in Ghana?

Update: thanks papilo for the analysis about ghana.

Valeree: Hmm, No be small thing oh.
What complicates issues further is that folks without 2-1 also apply and that probably doubles the number of applications. Someone said he knew someone who got in with 2-2 and that 2-1 listed is a ploy to decrease the number of applications.

mcfrank88: Bro sincerly speaking nobody can give u a specific date of when the list will be out, cos there's alwz many factors in play. Buh personally My contact a Naval Education Officer told me to keep my fingers crosed that in 2 or 3wks time d result will be out. 2yrs ago a friend dat wrote told me it came out after 4wks, on d 4wk. Will simply advice we jst forget abt dates and kip d thread alive, cos dis same date issue is causing lots of trival issues on d NA thread, nd most of us r feedup of waiting, buh am sure d Navy is a more less political force, they work wif date. Bless.
By the time you read people's experiences with the DSSC and SSC, you will conclude that it is more political than merit-based. In last year's thread, it seems over 20 candidates appeared for the Navy dssc screening at Port Harcourt when there were 10 names released officially per state.

Guys, just relax, pray, focus on other things and don't give yourself hypertension...It's all in God's hands.

Authentic info: Navy DSSC training lasts for 9 months. The first 6 months of training is spent in Kaduna along with NA SSC boys. After the 6 months, you will be commissioned and then proceed to Onne at a stipulated date where you will spend 3 months to complete the training.

To clear your doubt, go to the official NDA website and go to the videos page and watch the video titled 'the making of an officer', and somewhere in that video you would see ladies with shaved heads (the type your mum forced the Barber give your brother in primary school)...

It's a must my dear, no waivers....

In future, I hope the military can take advantage of the IT infrastructure available at Chams City for example. The place won a Guinness world record as they have about 1,000 computers in the same building. Candidates can go in 8-9 batches of 1000 to take a timed examination with each batch taking 8 different questions but with the same level of difficulty. Lagos Business School uses the centre for such a purpose.

Once you are done with a section or the 60minute count elapses you will be unable to go back to that section. And of course you can begin with any of the 3 sections but unable to switch to another section until one is completed. Results can be obtained immediately with such a system.

Anyway, in government you don't wanna be a smart ass or you end up with unnecessary enemies same with the military.

you may be right after all such things are commonplace in Nigeria. In the meantime, when should we expect them to release the names of successful candidates?
Jobs/VacanciesRe: Nigerian Navy (DSSC) 2013/2014 by fsb(m): 8:07am On Jul 21, 2013
The exam wasn't too bad although the level of cooperation defeated the purpose of a screening examination in an ideal world. While the general conduct was less than ideal, candidates were treated well except for those who came late that were asked to double up plus no one had to sit on the floor or in the sun.

It's all in God's hands now...

PhonesRe: What Would You Do With A 200GB Data Plan In 1 Month? by fsb(m): 9:44pm On Jul 11, 2013
Nigerians pushed for better service delivery and that collective desire brought us to where we are now: 3G, HSPA.

Now we should demand better data services along with pricing. What we have right now is no different from the time when a nokia 3310 along with a sim card sold for over 30k.

I think 3k for 1gb is outrageous and look forward to the day when we can get speeds of up to 100MB/s plus truly unlimited package (and realistically capped).

Anyway, i hear Google is looking into Wimax delivery in emerging markets. Maybe when they come then, what tecno has done to nokia and others will be done to the GSM operators...(figure of speech o...i'm no tecno fan)
