PoliticsRe: Nigeria Declines Germany’s Offer To Train Policemen by fsb(m): 7:11am On Nov 27, 2021
Nothing wrong with Germany offering to train Nigerian policemen.

We can all agree our policemen can benefit from 21st century policing methods as against the antiquated shoot-first and ask questions later policing they are known for. The only problem for me would be the need to sponsor 30,000 Nigerians to live in Germany for several months. This move will benefit the german economy.

Definitely cheaper for us to bring few german instructors to conduct the training locally.
PoliticsRe: NANS Threatens To Shut Down Nigeria Over FG's Planned Subsidy Removal by fsb(m): 7:02am On Nov 27, 2021
The failure of past administrations has created this problem.

If we had working refineries then we wont need to pay subsidy to private companies.

Unfortunately, the whole subsidy program has become too expensive. In a country where people have to also buy mostly petrol for their generators; this move means further hardship for the working class.

Nigeria and complex problems we create for ourselves.

Its amazing how people decide to view every single issue through the lens of ethnicity and tribalism.

I do hope he is innocent of any charges. If he is guilty then i also hope the law takes its proper course.

Academicwizman:
E-naira is on Blockchain. There are basically two types of Blockchain. That is, permissioned and permissionedless Blockchain. They both use the distributed ledger system. However, permission Blockchain (the one on which e-naira is mined) can be controlled by a super entity (e.g CBN) unlike the permissionless Blockchain (on which Bitcoin is hosted) that cannot be controlled by a single entity. Records of both are immutable.
Interesting, I have learnt something new.
BusinessRe: E-Naira App Vanishes On Google Playstore Amid Poor Reviews by fsb(m): 1:46pm On Oct 28, 2021
Academicwizman:
Good reasoning and analysis but let's look at it this way (point-by-point):

Point of correction: There was never digital naira in circulation.

The expense of printing/handling physical cash:

Do you know what they call interbank settlements? Let me explain. When you transfer money from let's say GTB account to First Bank account and the 'money' hits the account in a second. What actually hits your account is not really the money in the technical sense but a record that debit and credit has occured. It can take First bank a week in order to receive the physical cash equivalent to the amount that you transfer from GTB. That is inefficient and can slow down the amount of loan that First bank can grant based on their cash receipts at a particular time period. This is closely tied to the fractional reserve banking or cash reserve ratio (CRR) that CBN uses in controlling money supply in the economy.
E-naira advantage: Interbank settlements will be instant or extremely fast. With fast cash turnover, banks may grant cheaper loan.

Financial Inclusion
Yes, Fintech has broaden the financial Inclusion but do not underestimate how quick the financial Inclusion can grow with regular
government 'free e-naira' transfer to some categories of the citizens. Retirees will quickly learn how to get on the e-wallet if their monthly stipends are tied to it. Do not also forget the 'wonders' that allure of free peer-to-peer transfer without charges can do. Many Nigerians already detest the bank ripoffs through various charges.

Security
You got a point here but do not forget that holding cash also is dangerous. Besides, the e-naira is also on the Blockchain technology (which is still a very secure network). We have both permissioned and non-permissioned Blockchain. The e-naira is on permissioned block chain. It is only through CBN that the network can be messed with, and of course, if you are careless with your private key (password).

Overall: My fear is with the discipline of the Central Bank and possible high inflation due to over-minting the e-naira. If they can maintain high level of discipline (which I doubt considering the antecedent), e-naira is a very good innovation that will help the economy.
Thanks a lot for explaining this especially interbank settlement. There is so much physical cash that gets moved around between bank branches, between different banks and between banks and CBN.

The huge cost of this can be eliminated.

Idamond:
what's the essence, when the country is still going through hard times.
banks has already giving us that opportunity to do without physical cash, the govt is just looking for a way to loot More even the little money in our pocket.... why's the president really concern about money money money why not digitalize school, hospital, fire service, emergency units, police station etc. at least the poor and rich will benefit allot and we'll all celebrate him..
This is one way to look at it. There are a few advantages to moving away from physical cash. The first is that you eliminate huge cost of producing and maintaining paper currency. The polymer notes cost more to maintain than the previous paper notes and they used to be imported from somewhere; not sure if they are now produced by NSPMN.

Second is financial inclusion.

Third i can think of is security. If everyone was doing e-naira, it becomes easy to trace all financial transactions especially illicit ones. You cant hide e-naira inside soak-away or under mattress

Super1759:
Your problem is that you don't know and won't wish to learn.

We have two types of currencies
1. Fiat(paper money, physical money, controlled and centralised)
2. Crypto (soft money, online, structured by blochchain to be decentralized )

There is no middle one, no intermidate. You can't mix 1 and 2. Anything in between is not a form of currency. It's leg over to finish people like you. As long as someone have charge over it. It will be influenced and used for them.

Grow up. Common sense you don't have
Why must Nigerians abuse each other when people dont agree with their opinion?

The enaira is not designed to be a cryptocurrency. Its just a way of doing away with paper currency and hopefully greater financial inclusion.

Btw, the government of a country has the power to make anything legal tender and they have done so with the electronic naira.

A man is asking questions on how to recover stolen item and people are responding with irrelevant answers.
Why is the wife entering bus, misplaced priority and that his place is not Lekki. How does this solve his problem? He replied that wife's car refused starting, and he wasn't around that's why she took the bus. Is it a crime to go by bus.

Issue is there insecurity in the land. She was robbed at gunpoint and this can happen whether she's in her car or not.

After reading some response on this forum, one understands why people fail exams.
There are really troubling responses on this thread. I dont know if its the economy, poverty, wickedness, ignorance, the fact that people dont care about anyone but themselves, Schadenfreude or a little bit of everything.

Sorry about your loss.

Step 1: visit icloud.com and log in using your apple ID

Step 2: Click on Find my iphone. This page lists all your apple devices

Step 3: Click on the particular device you want to find then hit the lost mode button.

Once you have done this, the device cannot be used by anyone else. The only option would be for the thief and his friends to use the device for parts.

What is the point of CBN issuing licenses to BDC operators in the first place?

I wonder if it wont have made sense for people to buy directly from banks and end this black market business.

Foreign AffairsRe: Israel’s ‘iron Dome’ Air Defence System: What Is It And How Does It Work? by fsb(m): 10:24pm On May 12, 2021
Just wondering when all our smart naija boys will start designing IT systems that can solve our daily challenges.

Can we use aerial mapping, climate data to map grazing ranches that will help the pasturalists while also minimizing entry into farmlands?

What IT systems can help support our military forces on the ground to minimise casualties and causing maximal damage to the terrorists ?

I look forward to a day when we can start having seriously productive conversations on this platform.
HealthRe: FG Scraps Salary For Medical House Officers And Other Health Interns by fsb(m): 12:18am On Apr 25, 2021
Nairaland, as usual...i have had a few laughs reading a few comments from people who are not health workers but claim to understand the healthcare system both within Nigeria and around the world and in turn misleading a lot of people which is quite sad. Please let us take some time to do our own research with information freely available on the internet before making statements that are clearly incorrect.

Unfortunately, most people in Nigeria and indeed nairaland, cannot afford excellent private healthcare in Nigeria or even travel abroad for treatment but wont condemn the government for any actions that could further promote emigration of health workers to countries that are ready to grab them (better pay, safe and better working conditions). Some people have already claimed we have enough to dash other countries, time will tel if this is true or not.

We have all forgotten that in the end when there are no doctors, nurses, physiotherapists or pharmacists left, the rich ones will travel abroad for treatment while the poor will have no alternatives.

My brother...see the way people are arguing with vigour when they think they have all the information available to them. Like I said earlier there was no need for proof. Some people here aren’t in the U.K., don’t know NES, don’t know anyone directly affected etc.
TravelRe: Immigration Stops 58 Doctors From Travelling To The UK by fsb(m): 12:00am On Jul 11, 2020
Nairaland! I wonder why people are drinking panadol for other people’s headache.

If you believe they had special waivers organised by their employers such that their vignettes would be stamped in their passports on arrival on a chartered aircraft, unfortunately there were communication challenges between concerned parties all well and good.

If you believe the doctors woke up confused, entered bus to airport to look for next available plane to leave the country, and were sent back home by immigration all well and good.

There’s no point asking for proof as you don’t have to believe.

CrimeRe: Lady Accuses Davido Of ‘ignoring Her’ While She Was Being Robbed And Harassed by fsb(m): 10:16am On Dec 28, 2018
There is something definitely wrong with the Nigerian society reading several posts on this thread.

Stuff like this happens around the world but what doesn't happen is people not being sympathetic about this. It's not about whether Davido saw it and did nothing. In Nigeria, people are only sympathetic to the plight of others when stuff happens to those close to them.

Someone shared a video about a rock artist sighting such and expressing his disgust at it. If people here can't do same and stand for what is right in society, then why should we hope for better leaders when it seems most Nigerians are just as bad as the leadership.

The only time people gang up against oga in government is when they don't see road to chop.

This man has at several times raised alarm at how the NHIS pays HMOs money upfront for Nigerians to receive care and yet people are not receiving value on it. So many other concerns...no one is addressing those concerns.

They are accusing him of corruption like it's easy to be brazenly corrupt at that level these days.

@Op You do not have a right to post such a picture on the internet. These issues are really sensitive. In as much as your friend's partner did not inform her of his status for any number of reasons, that is a matter between them. For your own good, be aware there are now anti-stigma and discrimination laws in Nigeria. See excerpt below:

Penalty for non-compliance.

23. Subject to the provisions of this Act relating to other offences, any person or institution, who contravenes any of the provisions of this Act commits an offence and is liable on conviction to a fine of not less than N500,000 for individuals and N2,000,000 for organizations, or imprisonment for a period of not less than one year or to both such fine and imprisonment but in the case of an organization, the head or representatives of the board of the organization shall be held liable.

Variations of this federal Act enacted in different states.
