What alternative would you propose ? Not sure its sustainable for government to provide free tuition

Lifts generally have fail safe mechanisms in place to prevent such accidents. This needs to be thoroughly investigated.

Really sad that following the accident occurring inside the hospital, the health system is not developed enough to have saved her life.

Issuing road worthiness for cars when the roads are not even worthy of being roads.

gbaskiboy:
If this is not rejected now on the long run it would be financial burden to us and government will cash out big time without using the money for anything. Charging 1k maybe small but on the long run the amount would be increase. Road worthiness they charge N4,5 is now 15k, if money generated at the end would be utilized optimally none will complain but at the end it would be devoured without showing Mercy..

Health / Re: How Student Doctor Caused Woman's Death During Childbirth In Edo (Photos) by fsb(m): 11:42am On May 05, 2023
Sounds very unlikely a medical student would be allowed to do a C-section especially in a government hospital. Maybe they meant a resident doctor - but again this should have been done under supervision of a consultant.

Sadly, someone has lost her life as a result of poor care provided.

Politics / Re: FEC Approves ₦‎454 Billion For Kano-niger Republic Rail, Others by fsb(m): 1:33am On Mar 24, 2023
So the government is spending USD1billion essentially to build a rail road to a country that the total value of exports to was USD138million in 2020 (of which electricity export accounted for 36% of this figure)?

If the rail road cannot pay for itself (repay the loan), whats the point of such construction?

The lack of critical thought that goes into decision making is the reason our leaders continue to impoverish the African continent.

The police are not well trained to handle rifles; we should replace them with non-lethal tasers.

We also need to deploy technology and get policemen off the streets. ANPR cameras plus CCTV can easily track stolen cars; ensure cars on the road have valid registration and insurance.
These things are not rocket science.

Only in Nigeria, bad shit happens and steps are not taken to ensure it doesnt happen again
Politics / Re: House Of Reps Orders CBN To Suspend New Cash Withdrawal Limit by fsb(m): 6:41pm On Dec 08, 2022
But why do people need large volumes of cash? The idea behind is to encourage people to transact without cash as well as make all large volume transactions traceable.

These people are not fighting for poor people who dont even have that kind of money to be withdrawing everyday. This policy will make it difficult to throw cash around during elections and CBN should stand their ground.

Legislators should look into other areas to truly make the life if poor people easier.

Politics / Re: Naira Redesign: Myetti Allah Begs For A Deadline Extension by fsb(m): 10:24pm On Nov 17, 2022
The naira redesign is a welcomed development. The only thing that needs to happen is to ban third party physical cash deposits (ie. you can only deposit cash into your own account).

In addition, ban physical cash withdrawal beyond a certain amount to ensure all large volume purchases can be traced electronically.

Tax is a major way governments in developed countries fund the economy. I don't understand why a government minister is deciding to fight this. Does he prefer the government begging China or some foreign government for loan?

The UK generated £584.5billion in 2020/21 from taxes alone.
Politics / Re: Adamu Garba: Tinubu Was Betrayed By Osinbajo And SW Govs Not Buhari by fsb(m): 8:11pm On Jun 03, 2022
My message is simple.

If you are crying because of hunger
If you are crying because of unemployment
If you are crying because of insecurity
If you are crying because of inflation
If you are tired of poor state of healthcare in Nigeria
If you are tired of voting politicians that are are completely clueless about how economies work…
If you are tired because nothing works in Nigeria, then do the following:

1. Wake up
2. Get a PVC
3. Don't vote with sentiment
4. Don’t vote because he/she is your tribes man
5. Don’t be lazy and don’t vote based on stories/rhetorics of what praise-singers are saying about any candidate
6. Do your own research as a responsible adult
7. Vote because you want good schools
8. Vote because you want hospitals that will work
9. Vote because you want 24/7 electricity
10. Vote because you want pipe borne water that is drinkable
11. Vote because you want to sleep with 2 eyes closed
12. Vote because you want to enter bus and have rest of mind you will reach your destination and not be kidnapped
14. Vote because you want roads that your car can be driven on
15. Vote because you are tired of living in a country that people call shit hole

Finally, when politicians say I will make Nigeria great again. Ask them one simple question ‘how’?

If you don’t vote with sense, then collect NGN5000, bag of garri and shut up.

Stop complaining and enjoy the country because you and the politician you are complaining about are the same.

Politics / Re: Nigeria Declines Germany’s Offer To Train Policemen by fsb(m): 7:11am On Nov 27, 2021
Nothing wrong with Germany offering to train Nigerian policemen.

We can all agree our policemen can benefit from 21st century policing methods as against the antiquated shoot-first and ask questions later policing they are known for. The only problem for me would be the need to sponsor 30,000 Nigerians to live in Germany for several months. This move will benefit the german economy.

Definitely cheaper for us to bring few german instructors to conduct the training locally.
Politics / Re: NANS Threatens To Shut Down Nigeria Over FG's Planned Subsidy Removal by fsb(m): 7:02am On Nov 27, 2021
The failure of past administrations has created this problem.

If we had working refineries then we wont need to pay subsidy to private companies.

Unfortunately, the whole subsidy program has become too expensive. In a country where people have to also buy mostly petrol for their generators; this move means further hardship for the working class.

Nigeria and complex problems we create for ourselves.

Business / Re: E-Naira App Vanishes On Google Playstore Amid Poor Reviews by fsb(m): 2:41pm On Oct 28, 2021
Academicwizman:

E-naira is on Blockchain. There are basically two types of Blockchain. That is, permissioned and permissionedless Blockchain. They both use the distributed ledger system. However, permission Blockchain (the one on which e-naira is mined) can be controlled by a super entity (e.g CBN) unlike the permissionless Blockchain (on which Bitcoin is hosted) that cannot be controlled by a single entity. Records of both are immutable.

Interesting, I have learnt something new.
Business / Re: E-Naira App Vanishes On Google Playstore Amid Poor Reviews by fsb(m): 1:46pm On Oct 28, 2021
Academicwizman:

Good reasoning and analysis but let's look at it this way (point-by-point):

Point of correction: There was never digital naira in circulation.

The expense of printing/handling physical cash:

Do you know what they call interbank settlements? Let me explain. When you transfer money from let's say GTB account to First Bank account and the 'money' hits the account in a second. What actually hits your account is not really the money in the technical sense but a record that debit and credit has occured. It can take First bank a week in order to receive the physical cash equivalent to the amount that you transfer from GTB. That is inefficient and can slow down the amount of loan that First bank can grant based on their cash receipts at a particular time period. This is closely tied to the fractional reserve banking or cash reserve ratio (CRR) that CBN uses in controlling money supply in the economy.
E-naira advantage: Interbank settlements will be instant or extremely fast. With fast cash turnover, banks may grant cheaper loan.

Financial Inclusion
Yes, Fintech has broaden the financial Inclusion but do not underestimate how quick the financial Inclusion can grow with regular
government 'free e-naira' transfer to some categories of the citizens. Retirees will quickly learn how to get on the e-wallet if their monthly stipends are tied to it. Do not also forget the 'wonders' that allure of free peer-to-peer transfer without charges can do. Many Nigerians already detest the bank ripoffs through various charges.

Security
You got a point here but do not forget that holding cash also is dangerous. Besides, the e-naira is also on the Blockchain technology (which is still a very secure network). We have both permissioned and non-permissioned Blockchain. The e-naira is on permissioned block chain. It is only through CBN that the network can be messed with, and of course, if you are careless with your private key (password).

Overall: My fear is with the discipline of the Central Bank and possible high inflation due to over-minting the e-naira. If they can maintain high level of discipline (which I doubt considering the antecedent), e-naira is a very good innovation that will help the economy.

Thanks a lot for explaining this especially interbank settlement. There is so much physical cash that gets moved around between bank branches, between different banks and between banks and CBN.

The huge cost of this can be eliminated.
