Graduate Of Nigerian University, UNN Commits Suicide After Sending ‘Emotional Message’ To Mum SaharaReporters learnt that Jerry was found hanging on a tree by his colleagues inside a forest in the community, a discovery which caused tension among the students. A young graduate identified as Ugwoke Jerry has committed suicide in Nsukka, Enugu State. SaharaReporters learnt that Jerry was found hanging on a tree by his colleagues inside a forest in the community, a discovery which caused tension among the students. SaharaReporters gathered that Jerry was a graduate of Combined Arts (English/History) from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. Before his death, the deceased had sent an emotional message to his mother on why he decided to commit suicide. “You are the best mother ever, in this world. Am sorry for disappointing you. Please.” he said in the message to his mother. The reason for his action remained unknown. “It’s so sad, this guy is my colleague. He was lucky to graduate and had also completed his National Youths Service Corps. Some people are still in school finding how to graduate but he was even fortunate,” a source lamented. The school authorities and Jerry’s family could not yet be reached to comment on the incident. Suicide among university students in Nigeria has lately become a disturbing trend. SaharaReporters had in August reported that the Nigeria Police Force, Abia State command confirmed the death of Modestus Hyacinth Egbulefu, a 500-level student of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU), who committed suicide. The Command's spokesman, Geoffrey Ogbonna, who confirmed the incident to SaharaReporters, had said the victim, who was studying Electrical/Electronic Engineering, jumped from a three-storey building. The final-year student was reported to have committed suicide after taking hard drugs suspected to be “Mkpulu mmiri.” However, the PPRO had said an investigation was ongoing to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident. He had said, "The guy jumped from a three-storey building and died instantly. When they went to the house, they saw some substances suspected to be a drug known as 'mkpulu mmiri', presumably consumed before embarking on that journey. But all the same, investigation is in progress." https://saharareporters.com/2022/10/15/graduate-nigerian-university-unn-commits-suicide-after-sending-emotional-message-mum

Ghana Deports 16 Nigerians For Engaging In Cybercrime Sixteen young Nigerians have been deported by the Ghanaian government for engaging in cybercrime. It was learned that the 16 young men were arrested in Ghana when operatives attached to Ghana Economic and Financial Crime raided their residences. The returnees who were received by immigration officers led by the Comptroller, Seme boarder Command, Chukwuemeka Dika, said they were arrested by the Ghana immigration officials who raided their residence and deported by to the country. According to one of the deportees, a 19-year-old, boy from Anambra state who alleged that his parents are late, “it was my friend who connected me to another of his friend that brought me to Ghana. He promised to help me secure a job for me as a mechanic and when I make money; I will go back to my country.” Speaking on the sad development Comptroller, Seme boarder Command Dr Chukwuemeka Dike said the 16 deportees who were harvested and brought back from Ghana have been accused by the Ghana Economic And Financial Crime of getting involved in cybercrime.” Dike noted that from preliminary investigation, “we have discovered that some of them were lured into such criminal activities but others went with the mind of “get rich quick” mentality that the youths are developing currently. “Some of them are victims, in the sense that they were deceived in the process. Unfortunately, when they get there they are exposed to something different, and they don’t get the actual bargain they were given when leaving the chores of the country. “Investigation also revealed that they left the country through illegal routes, through the sea, and went into some west African countries, most of them travelled without genuine travel documents. “So when they got to Ghana they became prey to the authorities, it was easy for the authorities to deport them.” “The deportees were handed over to the Nigerian Immigration Service based on the agency partnership and synergy with other embassies and high commissions all over West Africa community,” he added He, however, encouraged Nigerians travelling out of the country to get genuine traveller documents as well as have legitimate sources of livelihood. “The minimum is an ETC, which is an (ECOWAS Travel Certificate). The ETC will make you legitimate for you to cross the borders, from the shores of Nigeria to other countries.” “Those who are victims will be handed over to National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) while those of them who in the process incriminated themselves will be made to answer,” he noted. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2022/10/just-in-ghana-deports-16-nigerians-for-engaging-in-cybercrime/amp/

A Shop Owner Was Gunned Down in Front of Her House. Her Husband Knows One of the Killers Frank Wakili, a resident of Benin, is seeking justice for his wife, Vivian Frank Wakili, who was allegedly murdered by three community touts at their home on August 6, 2022, in front of their four children. He told FIJ that they had come to kill her at their home at about 3:30pm in the afternoon. The kids, he said, were present when she was shot. “She had a very big shop in the house where she sold food items. People liked to buy from her because she sold almost everything,” he said. According to Frank, she was cooking on the said day when the gunmen went to her store first. She was not in the shop, so they came through the front gate of the house. “Normally, since she sold food items, even when the shop was locked, people sometimes came to the house to say they wanted to buy something. She would just come to the gate and attend to them. “So, the killers told one of the kids to go and call her, that someone wanted to buy something. Innocently, she went to the gate to attend to them; they immediately shot her. “The kids are traumatised, especially the last child. Any little thing, she keeps screaming ‘don’t shoot me’. The other ones are so moody; they can’t even attend school this term. The first is 11 years old, the second one is nine, the third is seven and the last is just two. Frank said that he thinks the killing was an act of jealousy, because the guy in the footage with the mask once lived very close to his house. “The guy was here for like two years before he moved out, so I was surprised to see him in the footage. It wasn’t difficult for me to recognise him because he lived in my area for up to two years.” Idris was easily identifiable because, according to Frank, he has bowlegs and walks with much pride. “He was the only one that wore a mask among them; that’s enough to know that he is someone my wife knows,” he told FIJ. “After Idris moved out of my street, people in the neighbourhood claimed to have seen him with guns on different occasions. “I don’t know if someone offended him before he left the neighbourhood, or he had any beef with me. I really don’t know. Or, maybe my wife did not sell anything to him on credit, I don’t know, but I know he’s the one who led them to my house. “After the incident, I went to the State Police Command in Benin on August 7; I played the CCTV footage for them, and the case was assigned to the Anti-cultism unit and the anti-kidnapping unit. “I did my own research, I paid people for information, and I was able to get the numbers of the killers as well as the picture of the particular shoe one of them wore to the house, which I gave to the police. “The guy who shot her happened to be the bush inspector for the community. I don’t sell land, so I don’t understand why they just decided to come and kill my wife. The community where I built my house is different from their own community. My house is at the boundary, so we see them when they fight and kill one another. “Of recent, their gang leader by the name Enoyi Osaro was arrested by the police because people wrote petitions against him after a series of killings. Up to 10 people have been killed so far. “Last year, he had some fights with the police , and I still don’t know how he was able to get out of it. “I genuinely want justice for my wife now that we have all these leads and pieces of proof.” In a conversation with FIJ, Chidi Nwabuzor, the Edo State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), stated that there are still a few suspects at large. “It is the command’s duty to find them, apprehend them, and then the case will be ready to be brought before a judge,” he said. However, she explained that although the command is still working on how to find the other culprits, they might soon charge the suspects they had already apprehended to court. He assured FIJ that the case would soon go to court. https://fij.ng/article/a-shop-owner-was-gunned-down-in-front-of-her-house-her-husband-knows-one-of-the-killers/ |
