Can't speak much on that but I've heard cases like that and I think the factors are varied

1. If the woman due to her job as a nurse keeps late night due to shift, the man who might be insecure to begin with will become unnecessarily jealous.

2. If the man loses his job or earns way less than his highly paid nurse wife, either the woman starts to show bossy and wayward tendencies or he imagines it.

3. The woman may decide to divorce the man and sue him for half or most of what he's got. We know American law favors women in this regards. The man may feel enraged seeing all he's worked for going down the drain.

I'm sure there are other reasons.

As to the solution? Maybe have a free counselling unit set up for all black couples or at least Nigerian couples where they share their problems like AA meetings.

This gives them a chance to blow hot air in a safe environment.

Get elderly Nigerian couples whose marriages have survived the thick and thin and let their presence rub off on the younger couples.

The elderly couples can also provide solid mentorship for young couples.

Isn't that how we do it back home in motherland Nigeria?

My advise

Its not healthy for a man and his wife to stay apart in the name of work . As long as you the husband has a source of livelihood, the wife and children should stay with him in his state of residence. I have always maintained its not necessary that a woman must work as long the husband is responsible for the family .

My friend, family comes first . If she is for family, she should relocate and stay with you.

There is nothing misleading in my write up brother.If you read my message very well,I am not layng emphasy on the fee collected for the ITIKAF. Those who made the arrangement and those who subcribed should be able to enjoy their money.

The mosque in question belong to the Lagos state government, both the Imam and those who work in the mosque are under payrol so the issue of cleanliness and other domestic work of the mosque should not be a measure for the denial of the people entering into the mosque for the ITIKAF.

They have the record of those who paid, and they were been given a tag, how can someone who doesn’t pay should be expecting anything from them than offering his ITIKAF and fend for himself without any hinderance.


Every Muslims have the right to observe prayer in any mosque of their choice during and after ramadan.

My major point is, why do you have to chase them out of mosque because they didn’t register for the ITIKAF ?

Your excuses are worldly excuses, let’s follow what the Quran and the sunah of the prophet (S.A.W) said. It should be a joy for the entire Muslim Umah seeing Muslims trooping our enmasse looking for the night of majesty unlike before when people were not enlightened.

The topic of this thread is quite misleading. As someone who has participated in maintaining a mosque before I can't totally fault the mosque executive for putting such a measure . majority of the Muslim community thinks its just too easy to run a mosque not to talk of hosting occupiers for 10 days on the stretch. If you want to feel it please keep a constant vigil of cleaning your local mosque and tell how it feels .

1) The saying that food should be brought in by each individual might sound normal but in a central mosque , you would create a chaotic atmosphere in the sense that food flasks and baskets would the littering the mosque . This items such as plates , spoons , cups would take over the internal space meant for worship . The mosque would look untidy more like an eyesore in the name of eating , this is unacceptable. Whereas a climate where food is served to everyone using take away packs can easily be disposed and hence mosque maintains its normal serenity of cleanliness.

2) security : The situation in the country calls for security measures to be taken , this includes proper checking of individuals before they are admitted into the mosque. People have different intentions while some are there for worship , some other might have other intentions. This also include issuing of forms where each individual is properly identified in case of unforseen circumstance ( e.g. death)


3) overstretched facilities : How many mosques have the necessary facilities to accommodate hundreds of worshippers . I believe the mosque in question shouldn't have more than 10 toilets/bathroom. This is also unhygienic as it increase chances of spread of infections . just imagine the queue on a single toilet ,that has 400 worshippers and you can't hold the thing , we shouldn't forget leaving the mosque invalidates i'tikaf

4) mosque maintenance : This is one of the most difficult jobs no wonder the prophet prayed for a woman who was cleaning the mosque after her burial. Humans are very difficult to control , members of congregation hardly keep to simple mosque rules but don't joke with their home rules how ironic .

Lastly, running a mosque require finances , donating finances for mosque upkeep takes a lot of budgeting , you might be surprised how much is spent on that mosque on a monthly basis.

One thing that saddens me is that in Muslim dominated areas of Nigeria , there are mosques in every nook and crany of their areas but people still leave such places and crowd a single mosque , overstretched its facilities and blame government for the such situation
