PoliticsRe: 52 Textile Companies Reopens After 10 Years, 25000 New Jobs Created by funken: 2:16pm On Sep 03, 2013
We need proof i.e names and addresses of these textile mills. So that this news can be authenticated. At least when government said they had revived the train service from Lagos to the North, blogger went as far as giving the minute by minute account of what happened on his journey from Lagos to i think Sokoto (not too sure).
So please lets have these info so that this news can authenticated.
PoliticsRe: 22 Senators Back Baraje-led PDP Faction by funken: 10:48am On Sep 03, 2013
I cringe and I shake my head when I read the amount of ethnic and religious venom being spewed on this thread. Please ask yourselves what you want to see for Nigeria (1st) and what you want to see in its president.

95% of Nigerians on the street do not care who rules them..what they care about is if they will get the next meal on the table for themselves and their families. I bet some of them don't even know the name of the president of the country (yes i say this) talk less of the name of the PDP chairman or the governors that have formed a parallel PDP.

If Nigeria divides today, who is going to pay for it? Everyone, plus all the people spewing ethnic and religious venom on this thread.

Come to think of it, the people you are all rooting for, do they know you exist? Do they care about you? Please think deeply and answer.

Vote your conscience come 2015. Vote who you think will better your lot in Nigeria...

They are both good cars. However, it depends - if you are single or have a small family (maybe your wife and a kid), then you go for the babyboy. If you have a large family, then its better you go for the Odyssey.

PoliticsRe: Oshiomhole Wont Use State Resources For Good Governance Tour by funken: 2:04pm On Feb 20, 2013
I wonder why we need a good governance tour in the first place? This is the first time I am hearing about that!!! Does Obama and his secretaries have good governance tours? Why do you need to launder your image if you are actually "governing goodly" grin grin?

They say actions speaks louder than words. Let us see action from the govt and nobody will need to spend our scarce resources - state of Fed govt on jamborees called Good Governance tours. "Govern goodly" from Aso rock and the various seats of power and the governed (the people) will naturally sing your praises - and very cheaply too!!!!!
PoliticsRe: Jonathan Goodluck's REPORT Card - Your Assessment by funken: 11:41am On Feb 14, 2013
He has tried with the revival of the rail lines. However he should flood the Nigerian Railway Corporation with more coaches. Focus should also be on moving more goods (cargo) through the rail lines instead of the trailers/trucks that adds to the pressure on the roads thereby destroying them.

Corruption - ZERO. The events of the past few months speaks volumes for themselves. I don't need to elaborate more.

He has tried with Agriculture. The Fertilizer, Rice and Cassava initiatives. However the common man has yet to feel the impact of all these in the cost of staples. All still up the roof. This is the only way that he can confidently beat his chest and say his agric transformation is working - When the common man can buy rice and garri at a cheaper rate than what entails now.

2] The Lagos - Ibadan Expressway concession was decisively dealt with and immediate rehabilitative efforts were carried out by Julius Berger and RCC, which reduced the burden on commuters on that road during the Christmas holidays. - Have they finalized the contracting of this road? The job done was just cosmetic. I thought they were supposed to do a full reconstruction of that road? Is it going to be business as usual and then someone will come and cry on the road maybe in 2yrs time lamenting how bad the road is and how Nigerians have been suffering? Only time will tell.

Youth Unemployment - Still no visible impact. Its not about employing youths in the public sector. Enact friendly policies that will attract FDI to the economy. Bring down interest rates to encourage manufacturers and entrepreneurs to start/relaunch their businesses. Do this and MAN(Manufacturers Association of Nigeria) will forever be grateful.

Aviation - Tried... However they should have reviewed the number of airports to be remodeled. To be sincere there are only about 5 airports that are financially viable in Nigeria - Lagos, Abuja, PHC, Kano and Enugu and probably some other ones in the SE. However the rest are just an unnecessary drain on the pockets of the nation. These jobs also need to be monitored because some of the contractors are using substandard materials.
PoliticsRe: Upgraded Lagos Domestic Airport Is Crumbling by funken(op): 1:46am On Feb 06, 2013
Ok if it is not 100% done, should it explain why a newly installed sink is almost falling apart? And it has been "commissioned" by the minister of aviation.
PoliticsRe: Upgraded Lagos Domestic Airport Is Crumbling by funken(op): 1:05am On Feb 06, 2013
Unfortunately, i was with my NOKIA TORCH phone when i entered the gents grin grin grin grin grin. However if anyone happens to be at the new domestic airport (where Arik flies) please enter the gents in the arrival hall and check the sink closest to the wall...Like i said full of cracks here and there...
PoliticsUpgraded Lagos Domestic Airport Is Crumbling by funken(op): 10:38pm On Feb 05, 2013
As much as I applaud the GEJ govt for "upgrading" the airports, the new domestic airport in Lagos is already showing signs of decay. I came in from Port Harcourt this evening and i went into the gents of the arrival lounge to ease myself. Lo and behold, one of the 3 wash hand sinks is already so badly cracked that it could fall apart any moment from now. And this is from an airport that was just commissioned only a few months ago.

I now took my time to take a look at the whole arrival lounge as a whole and I found out that these contractors did a completely shoddy job. The paint job is whack and looking up at the roof, I found so many markings as to wonder if work was actually completed on the roof.

Why are we so mediocre in Nigeria? Who certified these jobs because they were obviously done with substandard materials. And to think that billions of naira was actually budgeted and spent on this airport.

Sincere9ja, taharqa and the Nairaland forum hounds before you start criticizing me and mudslinging, these are just genuine concerns that require answers, and if you've got those answers pls pray tell...

Do you sell the OBDII cables separately? If yes, how much do you sell this?? I am IT savvy enough to instal this on my laptop. Do you sell the kit so that i can install this on my laptop on my own?? How long does the license for the software last?? Is it something that you have to install and renew yearly or is this a lifetime installation?
IslamRe: 10 Years After Burial, Imam Sheez Adeyemi's Body Remains Fresh by funken: 10:46am On Feb 27, 2012
Arsenic and other heavy metals have been known to do this to the human body. The soil might have contained these metals or he might have had these metals in his body when he died some years ago. These metals are know preservatives. Toxicology tests on the soil and body can detect this.
PoliticsRe: 220mw Sapele Power Plant Comes On Stream by funken: 10:45am On Feb 23, 2012
Fair development in POWER GENERATION. But how much of it is being TRANSMITTED and DISTRIBUTED to the end users - ushuh i can authoritatively tell u that some power generating plants are generating what cannot get to the final consumers. this is becos the transmission capacity of our current transmission lines is outdated and aging!! What is the point celebrating 4300MW on the pages of newspaper when all they can transmit is less than 2000MW of that?? And of the 2000MW how much gets distributed?? How many people are in need of transformers because their transformers are overloaded or don't even exist in the first place? Does that make sense??

We still have a looooooong way to go. But it is a fair start.

PoliticsRe: The Hausas (an Alternate Pespective) by funken: 4:59pm On Apr 21, 2011
For me, i think the problems of the Hausa are in the following order:
(1) illiteracy
(2) Extreme Poverty
(3) The Subservient culture
(4) The don't question their leaders (a fallout of no. 3)

And for me, all the above can all be traced to the leadership / their elite. If they are well educated, they will produce the likes of Ribadu, Sanusi, el Rufai etc etc. We are lucky down south here - at least if we don't go the whole lenght to the university, you will have a primary school leaving certificate, which at least is the most basic form of western education. Down south here, we question the authority and demand accountability - the Ekitis are know as the best petition writers grin grin (even if it does not bring results). Up North, it is the birth right of the rich to continue getting richer and the poor to get poorer. I have never heard of a rags to riches story up North. However, down south, they are a dime a dozen, Doesnt that speak volumes?

The leadership of this country needs a complete paradaigm shift to leadership for service, Even if GEJ decides to focus on the North for his 4yrs in office, nothing concrete might be achieved. This is because the elites / so called leaders (govs, Senators, Emirs, prominent Imams and the other PDP and even CPC ilk etc etc) will still be there. And if these people decide to siphon all the money into their personal pockets as they currently do,then the pple are still the loosers.

PS: I condemn in the strongest of language grin the orgy of violence that has threatened to overwhelm some states up North cry

SOme of You guys are funny. How many times have we seen approved projects that havent been funded and so were stall for ever. YOu and I know these things so why make a fuss about a project going forward. If the GEJ government hadnt attended to it you wud have said he doesnt care about the problems of travellers. Please my bro travels this road every month and he says that the road has changed (not completed though). He was very impressed with the road and the pass of work on it.
@osoisi, are you saying we should keep quite about these things as they are "NORMAL"? Are you saying we shouldnt make a fuss when our economy is being raped and pillaged by the same people over and over and over again? Are you saying we shouldnt make a fuss and demand good govenance? Are you saying we shouldnt make a fuss about govenment accountability? Are you saying we shouldnt make a fuss about bad leadership?

PapaBrowne:
Sadly, the dailies print only what they are paid to talk about. There is no journalism in Nigeria. The only time you'll hear them talk about it is if the Government pays them to talk about it. It sad but its the reality!! If you know anyone that travels that road frequently, call them and ask them how the road is now. Maybe then, you'll finally believe me!!
@PapaBrowne, information reaching me suggests that its even the state governments that this road passes through (ie Ondo, Ogun, Edo) that are taking the initiative to fix this road not the Federal Government.

BTW if it is fixing of this particular road that you are using to canvass for votes for Jonathan, then i guess you have just shot yourself in the knees with a double barrelled shotgun!!!! We all know how many times his people have "FIXED" this road. Even a minister wept on that same road more than a year ago, and why is it now that the roads are just being fixed?
PoliticsRe: Benin Ore Road Has Been Fixed!(Some pictures) by funken: 5:18pm On Apr 14, 2011
komekn:
Prior to the work being done they were in a criminally deplorable state, after years of awarding and re-awarding of the same contracts to the PDP faithful. There should be an investigation to determine the massive collusion in terms of inflated costs and wilful abandonment of contractual obligations. Then we can say GEJ has done something.

Having passable functioning roads is not an achievement but the most basic of governmental obligatory responsibility. Government has so failed us that our expectation of government is so,so low, that we now commend the condemnable.

Do you think anybody would hail, commend Cameron for resurfacing and doing the basic maintenance required for the M25, M1 or M6, absolutely not. You think say somebody go deh hail Obama say chei you don try, because, he repair I95, only Naija.

My advice we need to desperately raise our expectations.
pls preach this to PapaBrowne and co, jubilating and shouting hallelujah because bitumen was poured on Benin Ore road angry angry angry angry
PoliticsRe: Benin Ore Road Has Been Fixed!(Some pictures) by funken: 4:26pm On Apr 14, 2011
@PapaBrowne my point is i deserve the fruit of my labour, And i guess the MD will have a board of directors, Now if it is the same board of directors working with the new MD, come on, its still the same old story, He is still running with the same old crowd that the former MD ran with, What is the probability that his board wont kick him out and install a new MD there?

@PapaBrowne my point is i will not stoop so low as to celebrate mediocrity. If Fashola, GEJ and the likes are fixing/recontructing/upgrading/resurfacing/filling roads, GREAT!!! That was what they were elected to do,

Or was there something else they were put there by the pple to do?? huh huh huh grin
PoliticsRe: Benin Ore Road Has Been Fixed!(Some pictures) by funken: 3:42pm On Apr 14, 2011
@ideylaff thank you jare my broda,

Its only in Nigeria that i see that we celebrate mediocrity and it sickens me, Instead of reading newspapers and magazines all we see now are full page sponsored ads of govs, senators, hons, and local government chairmen and their "GIANT STRIDES", They sink a borehole and the put it on the pages of newspapers, they build a health centre - not even a standard hospital and they put it on the pages of newspapers,

I guess fixing this road is one of the GIANT STRIDES of GEJ, no offense to him, But when will we wake up from this slumber and realise that these things are our rights? When will we snap out of these poverty mentality and know that we deserve much more than we have gotten this past number of years?
PoliticsRe: Benin Ore Road Has Been Fixed!(Some pictures) by funken: 2:15pm On Apr 14, 2011
sley4life:
GEJ deserves commendation. Ore was a death trap. Its been long i past thru der
@sley4life, i agree GEJ deserves credit, However, look at it this way, You work for a company and you put in 10-12hr days everyday and then at the end of the month you celebrate, jubilate and thank the MD profusely for paying your salary, Infact you send him a thank you card and tell everyone that cares to listen that he is the best MD in the world,

Pray tell, is the salary he paid you a favour you did him and his company? Or is it your legitimate right as a worker that has put in 10-12hr days?

Its when we start to see good roads and infrastructure as our rights as citizens of this country, that is when we will start moving forward as a nation,
PoliticsRe: Benin Ore Road Has Been Fixed!(Some pictures) by funken: 10:00am On Apr 14, 2011
Should we be crying hallelujah for something that is statutorily our rights? When you are elected to a position, you are naturally supposed to be doing these things - fixing/upgrading/recontructing/repairing/resurfacing/,  all these road, and also generally making life better and safer for the people. I dont believe in the political lingua "THE DIVIDENDS OF DEMOCRACY" as some people might term this.

Are these things dividends or are they not our rights as law abiding and tax paying citizens? We should not celebrate mediocrity by jubilating when people do what they are naturally supposed to do. Even if he has upgraded/resurfaced/reconstructed/repaired/fixed Benin Ore road, what about the billions that have been spent on "REPAIR" on paper? What about the people that were in charge when these "REPAIRS" were done? Where are the people that "REPAIRED" these roads? @PapaBrowne can you pls answer these questions?

@PapaBrowne i am not a Jonathan hater, however its the crowd that he is running with that i don't like. He might be a credible person but if he continues to surround himself with the kind of people that i see around him, he will be a hard sell to some people,
