ferdiii: Can one do this TRV process without Vfs Global? I.e dealing with the Embassy directly. And does Canadian Embassy, Abuja process it?

Please what and what does my pal need at this stage? He just got his admission letter from Memorial University, Newfoundland against Masters, Oil & Gas.
The Canadian High Commission in Abuja does not process visa applications. You have to use courier to submit from Abuja. I submitted in Lagos after collecting police report there. If I am to submit again, I will collect the police report from Lagos and come back to Abuja to submit by courier because you may start going back and forth if you submit at a VAC (VFS) in Lagos.

pauloman: I must correct obamacare's annalysis about ascribing ur denial to ur choice of program and the fact that u have done ur Msc in the uk. Ur study profile is beautiful and very progressive enough which i feel the VO can never fault.

However, i believe u shot urself in the leg by not putting enough congent documents to convince the VO of ur financial sufficiency in Canada. If i were in ur shoes i would have not only put my mother's personal account statement of 10milla but also put the company business account if it shows financial bouyancy and operation n good financial flow. Even putting ur personal account statement is not too necesary since u have unequivocally stated ur mum as ur sponsor. But to beef up ur application cogency its necesary u add ur personal account statement and it should also show some bouyancy too.

Furthermore,ur ties issues too was pretty suspect and gave u away. What i would have advice u do is to get a letter from the company u work with to indicate that they are in approval of ur study plans to Canada and would be expecting you back after ur program(more like they are giving u a study leave). To me that is more cogent, contrary to sir P's suggestion. Glo is an internation branded company so they will respect such a letter. My 2cents. All d best. Cheers!
He did not say he is working with glo directly

hayek: I have been carefully following the thread and I cannot but agree that this forum is Do It Yourself(DIY) platform. One cannot but encourage sharing experince and when you help others you are learning and helping yourself as well.

Well, I got in my application for Study permit on May 17th, 2012. It is still waiting game. Visa officers have a wide discretion so each case is differently treated. Like I once said in this forum, already I have a valid Canadian Visa expiring May, 2013 and I have visited Canada 3-4 times. But question now is when I applied I submitted my kids( who are US Citizens) birth certificates. Right now one of their passport has expired and has to be renewed because they are going in for a holiday in Europe with their mum. To make this happen, appointment has been scheduled with the US Consulate, Citizen section on August 2,2012. Since the kid is under 16, she has to be accompanied by her parents along with her ORGINAL BIRTH CERTIFICATE which is now in sleeping at CDHC office in Lagos. Please dear Forumites, how do I get this birth cert back? Do I visit their office and fill or simply send an email?
@hayek, It seems no time left to send e-mail, so I suggest you go to CDHC and fill a form stating that you need the birth Cert and other docs you may need. I think they attend to people on WEDNESDAYS so you have to try to make it tomorrow!!!

mercylicious: @all,
I got sum bad news. Status changed to ready for collection . No medicals. Was planning to go to Lag tommorow bt I will have to relax . I don't even have enough money to re-apply now though I have jan start date left. I have abt 2.6m in fixed dep, gave a friend 250k which will nt be repaid soon. Nt sure I will be able to raise N1m again. Gosh.
@mercylicious, You've been very supportive here. Always ready to assist with advice, on hand to celebrate with successful applicants and available to comfort those who did not make it.

You are kind and will definitely not not go unrewarded. We will live to celebrate victories eventually. One thing is that by joining this forum, we are wiser and better informed. But for this forum, we would have run to VFS upon seeing that message after months in waiting not knowing what to expect and be embarrassed there!

We will all have a re-union there one day and share our stories while laughing and assisting new applicants then.

Obamacare: Thats not bad either but I wasn't expecting him to do any submission again till next year by the way. I didnt mean immediately. if you have visited the US several times as claimed, then you shouldn't have problem visiting Canada
I buy lots of stuff from US, UK and UAE. I have relatives in UK and USA. Believe me, I did not want to state my circumstances in this forum, but just wanted honest opinions as you have to tell a doctor your problems for right diagnoses. I appreciate your advice but take exception to the word "claim". I need not tell lies here. What will I gain by telling lies? Will I tell CDHC that, "I have been to USA, UK and UAE and other countries so give me visitor visa?"

On my former passport with 2 and 5 years USA and UK visas respectively, I was given only 10 days single entry schenghen tourist visa (perhaps coz I said I was going to spend 10 days) even though I expected @ least 1 year multiple entry. So visa cases don't add up that way because of sovereignty. Even a Kenyan VO can say "well good for you Mr. Traveller, but this is Kenyan matter and I won't give you visa!".
TravelRe: Travelling To Canada Part 3 by galala123(m): 5:26pm On Jul 22, 2012
Obamacare: Good: Meaning you could match your asset for a physical cash. Submitting mid March was a little early though. First week in April may have been better. Base on what you have shared, I can conclude you have very bright chance of getting your TRV at another attempt. I still think you should consider visiting Canada first before re-applying for study permit.
@Obamavare, thanks for the advice. Hope to reapply but, at a higher educational level after collecting my transcript. I thank God it was rejected coz, the September timing is coming much faster than expected and it would have been difficult to go.

What good reason do I have to apply for visit visa? Will they not think I am planning to take off? Especially having applied for study permit EARLIER which prima facie establishes a case that will not favour me? If a visitor visa application is turned down, it may affect my next student visa application adversely.

justwise: @ Bakorede

Stop posting that material from your 'agent' in Canada, not needed here. Please.
I concur. I posted my experience, though negative here for others to learn from as I have learnt from other peoples experiences here.

This forum is DIY inclined, so let's keep it that way. We are here to learn from each other because no agent will let go of their "trade secret" even if they see you falling into a trap unless you engage their services.

I completely agree with justwise while wishing Bakorede the best and thanking him/ her for sharing the experience from "agency/ agent" (it just crossed my mind that this could also eventually serve as a learning point). Problem is that the post was leaning towards advertisement and hence the yellow card.

@obamacare, I paid half ($6,500) before submission, paid the balance in June coz of deadline. Send payment evidence and reason for payment before visa decision to CDHC.
Had about $35k in my personal USD dom account.
I submitted mid march. Was to resume early Sept.

I am relieved by the refusal however as I realised during the wait that the program level was completely off point. I am planning to go for my transcripts now having contacted ICAS again to upgrade my credentials.

What advice do you have? Thanks

The program was completely off course. I will look for a more reasonable Masters program next year. If you have suggestions, please assist (Management/ finance courses)
TravelRe: Travelling To Canada Part 3 by galala123(m): 8:55pm On Jul 20, 2012
Obamacare: But with the money and connection you have, you shouldn't be subjecting yourself to the rigors of getting a student visa from Nigeria. Applying for a visiting visa and then doing a short term program like a 6wks course could have set the ball rolling because after the course, you can get an extension and another admission then return home to re-apply base on that. I guess your packaging too is over blown may be you should bring it down a little bit. Too much money can be a threat sometimes don't you think so?
Just working on the web and realised I made a big mistake from the start. I went to register on Ontario colleges and so I was just looking at the small picture all along. At the end of the day, I was not even sure if I wanted the program so I was relieved that the application was turned down. I might as well pay for a better program. I have a 2/2 in Acctg with the MBA so it's not like I do not have the pre-requisite qualification for better courses.

I too know (ITK) can sometimes make a person make a fool out of himself. I saw an agent who said I should pay like 200k for admission! I ran away and paid $95 and processed my admission by myself! Maybe I would have learnt a few things from the agency!

The same agency said I should pay $2k for visa! that the $2k is refundable if I do not get the visa. I was shocked and felt that only an ignorant person will pay such amount when the rules are spelt out clearly, so I went and paid my 20k or so to CDHC! smiley (In my mind, I said "go and collect the money from aje butters whose parents will pay the money for them, no be me"!

I put on my spike shoes and ran away! One can learn a lot from this forum.

Abeg who has info on reasonably priced Msc in Business management field in a town that is easily accessible from International airport in English speaking regions. I just saw Royal Roads University Msc (Global Management) for $28,880 per September 2012 intake (so It will be like $30k by September 2013). MBA in the same institution is $44,000 for September 2012! down from $56,000 in Sept 2011 (Seems recession is catching up on them so the cut the fees down by $12,000)

Since I have MBA, I am guess an Msc will be more ideal now.

I will need some time to build up the money and serious austerity measure with little or no overseas family vacation for now (We are now 5 and each time I buy tickets, I think of all my problems the money could have solved and then you will spend again oh -That's why I hate visitor visa's so much now. They are just drain pipes, no health insurance, no social security, the UK banks even refused to open account for me!, eventually they opened one account and gave me a "cash card" which can not be used online but to withdraw cash from their ATM machine only! see visitor visa insult). No account opening issues in USA only they charge me a token monthly fee ($6) if I dont make up to 5 POS purchases with the card every month. Online purchases dont count

Thanks, I also forgot to mention that I included my open ended contract with a world bank project based in washington, DC. I am a research assistant/ consultant to the organisation earning $400 per day (A day is 8 work hours) upon agreeing to perform a request for service (RFS). catch is that the work is not constant, when they need information from a ministry or agency, they write to ask if you can get it and then you agree on the number of days and once you submit your report, you also submit your bill and the payment is wired from the US. I put the contract in my package too.

pauloman: Wow u mean u have all these credentials and u went so low as to apply as a student visitor in Canada? To even worsen the situation u now went and applied for a pgd or was it a diploma when u evidently have an MBA?

My brother having a credential as urz and reviewing your application by the VO,he must have been suspicious of ur true intentions to come and study. With my little experience with the embassy, they dont fancy inconsistencies in any application. Hence,ur trv refusal !

Since u obviously have that much money as u claim, then u should be applying for ur PRV directly instead of a trv. You can do this through the Canadian Investor Program or the Canadian Enterprenuership Program since u are a business man. All u need do is package ur application very or better still get an immigration lawyer in Canada that will package one for u and rep u all the way to get PR visa.

Ur case is just like having a diamond or gold in ur hands and u are busy still picking stones. Please be progressive in ur plans and not otherwise, the VOs value that alot and that is why they want to have a feel of ur history when u apply for a visa. All the best Bro. Cheers !
Thanks Pauloman. Will study your suggestions deeper now. Problem is that assets and cash at hand are 2 very different things, for instance, I have been working on my hotel for the past 3 years even though it is operational re-investing / ploughing back every kobo from that business back and even moving money from other sources there. Such businesses are very capital intensive but you get a long flow of income which will can be of benefit to you children and grand children unborn. And remember, your workers will be cutting your throat too.

Sometimes these folks expect you to cough out the kind of cash that they don't even see in their society as they mostly live on credit by spending money not yet earned. I wont go and start selling stuff for this purpose. I also read about people waiting for years (some 8 years) in que and then even being disappointed eventually. I also believe that all these things can be done much more easily, within shorter waiting times and with dignity if you are applying from within their country. That's why I wanted to get there first. See how we wait like refugees for student visa? Sometimes you stoop to conquer once you know what you want. I was not going for any program or certificate to use to feed eventually so I chose something that will give my brain enough free space as , believe me, it is hot enough everyday already trying to survive in a business environment where people hardly keep their promises and always have very good reasons for failing to keep their commitments. Even if you succeed "relatively" in such an environment, you wont want your kids to go through such stress. Sometimes you do supply and the people in house want to corner everything from security man at the gate to ....... so you end up with nothing sef, but then you console yourself and say, maybe I will hammer another day and...well I have the records to show VO! grin

Like USA, once you get there and see street begging, you will begin to wonder what all the fuss at the embassy is about. At that stage, you see less "shakara" from them.

Sir P!:
@galala123 Sorry about your refusal, in my opinion your lost passport isn't too much of a problem..
I think the issue is your course, doing a diploma after MBA is what I think the officer has an issue with. Your financial standings are good from what you said, are you married?

Another thing is did you submit evidence of how your business would be run and who it would be run by in your absence because if you didn't they might think the business would crumble and you won't have anything to return to

Just my opinion
Thanks for the feedback.

I am married with 3 kids. My wife is a co director of all our companies and I stated in my application that she will be on ground to see to the day to day running of the businesses. My wife also has 5 year UK visa and we all had 2 years US visa which recently expired. My 2 kids have 2 years UK visa too which have expired. I am about to apply for 5 years UK for them. The third child does not need visas to travel. I am open to honest opinion even if it does not sound nice. Thanks

Hello house,
The reasons for your refusal are indicated below:

1. You have not satisfied me that you have adequate funds available to you to pay for your tuition and living expenses while in canada and to return to your country of residence (NOT APPLICABLE /UNCHECKED)

2. You have not satisfied me that you will leave Canada by the end of the period authorized for your stay (APPLICABLE /CHECKED)

3. You have not submitted all required documentation (NOT APPLICABLE /UNCHECKED)

4. From the documents which you submitted in support of your application, I am not satisfied that you have answered all questions truthfully, as required by subsection 16 (1) of the immigration and refugee protection act. Specifically, I am not satisfied that the following information was truthfuk:__________________________________________ (NOT APPLICABLE / UNCHECKED)

5. You have not satisfied me that you are a bona fide student (APPLICABLE / CHECKED)

6. Other reasons: ____________ "NOT CREDIBLE" (Hand written)

Not really surprised. I admit my application was curious from the onset.

I applied for a post secondary diploma program in an entirely different field from my previous field of study even though I have an MBA since 2004, currently employ almost 30 people, showed government contracts (Supplies) my companies executed worth over $300,000 within the 12 month period prior to my application, Evidence of fully paid up property in Abuja and UK, Evidence of hotel ownership, evidence of my Abuja business office with annual rent and service charges of over $50,000 payable to an international property management firm annually.

Unfortunately, my passport was stolen in switzerland last year with 2 years unexpired US visa, 5 years ( just 1 month old) UK visa which I only used to spend 1 night only @ a heathrow hotel on my way to switzerland, 6 months Indian business visa, schenghen visa and over 20 dubai entry stamps, about 20 UK entry stamps (in fact, my thumb print did not register at UK border agency on my way from US last year, when the staff saw my entry stamps, they said "oh, you come here very often so dont worry, welcome again". I appreciated my travel history that day.

so I submitted a new passport which had 5 years unused UK visa, 6 months Indian business visa which I used once to go to India and 1 Dubai entry stamp in the new passport as well. I submited switzerland police report and Emergency travel certificate copy obtained from Nigerian Embassy in switzerland which I used to return from switzerland.

The passport issue gives me great concern as I am punished everywhere I go as if I lost it intentionally. In fact British Airways refused to bring me back just a week after taking me there despite the police report emergency travel certificate and I had to buy a klm ticket to come back. I had to pay full money and provide all docs again for UK visa replacement as if it was a new case and US visa section said I have to reapply again as a person that has never gotten US visa before even though I traveled to US about 4 times last year alone and I have a son who is a US citizen by birth.

My story is getting long. Thinking of applying for Business Entrepreneurship PG program. I applied for diploma in social works and even the student advisor from the school advised me to go for their International development program and was ready to offer me spot admission after seeing my credentials. I was lazy and turned the offer down coz did not want to start running to get my transcripts from my university (though I did not tell her this part oh).

My story for others to learn. Recommendations and advise please.

Someone confirmed he got his TRV after 7 months! I am in the same mental state as you. I do not know if delay means denial in this age of expedited processing when you see a lot of people overtaking you.

If they need clarifications and ask questions, or request for additional documents, at least you will know your application is being processed rather than such tortuous silence! cry

Sorry my sister. The situation is pathetic. This is another reason why people want to get additional identity. Unfortunately we are treated like orphans country wise.

If you don't give me visa when I need it, at least release my passport. I hope eventually, we can reach a stage where they will not hold our passport until they are ready to issue visa.

If you get the visa now, will you still use it? Do you intend to make any foreign trip soon? You may choose to recall your passport and application after considering these questions and perhaps one or two other questions.

I personally, have missed about 3 foreign trips because of my passport which has been detained since March although I console myself that I have saved some travel expenses!
