From that BBC link, i saw this comment 137. At 01:17am on 22 Apr 2010, Hetoma wrote: It is interesting that this documentary has generated so many comments on this site and beyond.
Will Anderson has produced a programme that suits his purpose and I feel sure, he hopes will boost his career. The BBC decided to air a programme that suites their purpose. Whether or not their intentions were for the best interest of Nigeria is irrelevant. It is perhaps silly of us Nigerians to expect others to clean up our mess. We can not keep expecting others to show Naija in the best light to the rest of the world; we must do that ourselves.
It was upsetting to see yet another obscene programme about Naija. Like many have commented, I was watching the UK election debate by the leaders of the top 3 political parties when a friend called to remind me of this programme. I immediately changed the channel to find out who was invited to and being received in Lagos.
I was soon captivated by one of the characters - Joseph. The quality of his English grammar, philosophy, smiles and his general persona seemed at odds with his situation and the environment. I soon concluded that the guy must have had a good education or exposure of sort.
Moreover, the more I watched the more I was drawn to Joseph. It gradually became apparent why I was so drawn to him. He had seemed uniquely familiar and the more I observed him the stronger I felt. Suddenly it dawned on me - it was Joe, my classmate at Ojota Secondary School, Lagos about 21 years ago. I quickly called another friend here in London who had attended the same secondary school. His thoughts were same as mine.
I struggled to sleep that night as I thought of Joe. He was a brilliant mate, sociable and funny. We nicknamed him “The Incredible Hulk” because of his raw physical strength. He also had fine drawing skills and did well in Fine Art. Joe always wore a smile and was ever so kind, gentle, friendly and always willing to help; a genuinely pleasant guy to be around. I have been thinking of Joe since I watched the programme. His lovely daughter took my breath away. No wonder her mother said she would support her in whatever she chooses to do.
May I call on all that may be interested (particularly the 2 contributors I noticed share my interest in Joseph) to join me and my friends in doing something for him? At present I have no direct contact with Joe but I intend to explore all means to reach him. It would be highly appreciated if the producer and the BBC can help in this regard, particularly by linking us up with Joe and collecting the money we raise and passing on to Joe. I feel sure he will excel if given the opportunity. As may have been noticed, I grew up in Lagos. Then I went to Uni in Benin, worked in Banking in Lagos before moving to London some years ago to continue my career. I haven’t been back for 4 years but for this purpose I intend to go back and meet with “The Incredible Hulk” after so many years.
Particularly, I intend to understand what happened to him after school and how our fortunes drifted so far away despite out similar backgrounds. It would be a pleasure to see his children get the best possible education to the best of their abilities.
In conclusion, can the BBC please present a balanced view of Nigeria and other developing countries in future programmes? Thank you. Oh life! |

To be honest there is a Nairalander that looks like Chubey. At least you had smells from saw mills, I actually lived in Mile12 for a time, with a relative ,and HATED the smell of rotten Oranges, with a tint of stinking animal flesh, that we got sometimes either from the market or from the ketu dump. I was so glad when I left for my dear Ikorodu. I thought we had it bad at one time but no no no! The way that smell dey take slap person ehn! kai!! I don't even know where Mile 12 is, but what you described just reminded me of Oyingbo. |

i forgot to add that the advanced countries in the world have neither progressed through extreme capitalism nor outright communism but the hybrid of both principles as 9janja rightly pointed out which can be referred to as State Welfarism. That is what the Labour PM is doing in the UK and what Pres. Obama has just achieved with the Health Care Bill and other post- recession policies. Are you sure of what your saying because its clearly not working |

I also use a braid oil spray in between, and moisturize my scalp everyday so theres hardly any question of buildup.
