So much for one Nigeria 50 years after the civil war.
Well at least we Igbos are not decieving our selves that there is anything like 'one Nigeria' the way other people do.
PoliticsRe: Signs That the Ibos Are Not Serious About Biafra by gartamanta:
steveneche:
50% of ibos are not taking this Biafra agitation serious. Here are my reasons :

1. How many igbos truly sat at home during the sit at home protest? I have thousands of ibo folks here but we I didn't even notice there was a protest that day.
The sit at home order was for only for Biafra land and there was 100% compliance.

2. Why is the Arewa group threats causing controversies? If the ibos truly Wants to leave Nigeria, why not capitalize on this threat and go back to their region. This will make the fight for Biafra stronger. But no, they want to leave Nigeria n still stay in Nigeria.
Because the Arewa youths want to eat their cake and have it. They want Igbos to go but they dont want them to have Biafra. That is cheating. If the Arewa youths had said that they support the disintegration of Nigeria and the emergence of Biafra then we would have taken them serious. But asking people to go while looking for 'one Nigeria' is laughable

3. There are more ibos outside than they are in South East
This is even a big reason for Biafra. The coming of Biafra will encourage Igbos to go back home and develp their land since they now have their own independent nation.

4. Selfishness, The Ibos take their businesses more serious than Biafra agitation. How many igbos will b willing throw their investments away to move back to Biafra? I doubt, maybe few
Throw their investment away? Why would any Igbo need throw their investment away for no longer being Nigerians? Have the many thousands of foreigners such as Chinese, Lebanese, indians had to throw their investments away because they are not Nigerians?

5. They are not united enough. Other parts believe that anambara dominates the South East, the same domination as that is making them to leave Nigeria. I smell trouble later.
There is no ethnic group what you said does not happen especially the big ones. In Yorubaland, the Ifes and Oyos have had age old tangle about who is superior. Even Hausa/Fulani, many Hausas feel that Fulanis take too much. The important thing is thar our people are united about Biafra and they showed it by their sit at home compliance.

6. If Nigeria should produce an ibo President in 2019, Biafra will rest their case. Remember GEJ's era right?
Not really. Igbos have come to realise that having their own country is 50 times better than president of Nigeria. Besides, there is nothing incredible that the presidency of Nigeria has done for those who held it before. So what will it do for Igbos?

There are no similarities between what i posted and what you posted.

Nigeria and Ghana don't have any diplomatic row, besides globacom Ghana is a public traded company, adenuga can decide to sell his shares in case of any diplomatic rift between Nigeria and Ghana that's likely to affect his business

But here, Biafra is seeking independence from Nigeria, believe me, Nnamdi kanu has destroyed any chance of us having a peaceful dissolution with all his hate speeches, even if Nigeria signs a treaty to protect your investments here in Nigeria, you guys will go through a lot registering your business, you will no longer enjoy the rights Nigerian citizens having a business here in Nigeria normally enjoy , there will be intimidation, forget, this is Nigeria, things don't work normally here, even the locals will intimidate you guys, courtesy of your hate speeches and chest beating here online. . People are getting more awared everyday, the agberos in lagos knows how you guys claimed lagos is no man's land, how you call yorubas lazy and how they will die without you coming to their lands, how you generate everything for them while they keep doing owo mi da.. ..

Believe me, The only thing protecting your investments in Nigeria is because igbos are still Nigerians, the moment you guys cease to be Nigerians then I can't guarantee what will happen to your properties because all those agberos boys that you guys normally abuse here are not smiling at all but be rest assured that no one will harm you physically in the south west
It has evertything to do with what you posted because the only reason why Nigeria is siezing the assets of Igbos is because they are no longer citizens. So what it means is that all Nigerian assets and Nigerian citizen assets outside Nigeria can be siezed for being citizens?

What is strange about Biafrans/Igbos seeking independence? Didnt Nigeria seek independence from Britain? So what is strange about Igbos seeking independence from Nigeria? Because Lord Lugard said we must all die together?

Nigerians generally dont believe in peaceful dispute resolution. The last time Biafra left peacefully, it was you Nigerians that came to the East to fight.

Now that Kanu and IPOB are talking about peaceful referendum, you Nigerians are again talking about siezing assets, fighting and going to war.

The problem with you Nigerians is that you lack any sense of self determination.

Lol, just like your properties were protected by international and local laws in portharcourt.

See, this is the zoo, we need to live up to that name you guys gave us, there won't be sophistication this time around on the part of the yorubas. Your properties will be seized and we will use them to rehabilitate our agberos here grin grin grin

Abeg, oga laudate, come hear ur people dey tlk about international law for here again ooo
Adenuga has investment in Ghana, can.it be siezed just because Adenuga is no Ghanaian?

Orji Uzo Kalu had Slok Air in Gambia, can it be siezed because he isnt Gambian?

Dangote has a cement plant in Senegal, should he have it siezed because his not Senegalese?

So why should Igbos have their investments seized because they are no longer Nigerians?

If Nigeria feels it can sieze the investments of people because they are not citizens then should stop inviting international investors since that can be siezed as well for not being Nigerians

-That his followers are disillusioned and brainwashed ( just like how Shekau is doing)

And, he wants to do it by the democracy of referendum. It is you Nigerians that are jumping up and want to fight. Did they tell you people that 'one Nigeria' is by force?

Where we all differ in is what the federating units should be.

Correct me if I am wrong. But don't you think if people (Igbos) insure their properties and businesses with insurance companies it will prevent them from loosing it if peaceful dissolution of the country fails?
It is not a must that you have to be a citizen of a country to own business investments and property in that country. A Government cannot legally sieze the property of a person based on citizenship alone, that is against the law. In the event of Biafra coming, all investments are protected under international and local laws

What exactly is preventing our leaders from making good use of the 20 Naira accruing to the SE today?.... And what miracle can possibly make these leaders change overnight when the name os changed to Biafra?
Because we are in Nigeria. The Nigerian system encourages wastage, corruption, unaccountability. These leaders cannot be touched in Nigeria.

The reason why it will be different in Biafra is because we will no longer run this unitary system. There will be no Governors, no senators and no executive president. What you will have are provincial leaders or Local Govt Chairmen who are have a greater control of the IGR and directly responsible to the people. Biafra will be fully restructured to near confederal level.

The Nigerian system only encourages corruption and ineptitude. The sooner Biafrans get out of it, the better.

This video is about 4 years old. In that time, neither has IPOB nor Kanu has not killed or hurt anyone. Infact, it is IPOB that have been shot and killed by the Nigerian security agencies.

So instead of you to open a useless thread like this on people that have done nothing, focus on those who are actively killing people everyday such herdsmen, Boko Haram, your Nigerian security agencies, cultists, Niger Delta militants.

When.you have covered these ones that are killing people everyday, they can start to cover those like Kanu who have not yet killed anybody

No amount of IGR, wether it is 2 Naira or 2 Trillion Naira is going to help Igbos in Nigeria. It is only when we have our freedom and country that we can make prudential use of our resources and IGR to spawn growth.

It is better to have IGR of 2 Naira and make good use of it in Biafra than to have an IGR of 2 Trillion in Nigeria but it doesnt impact on the people.

Ironsi did not restructure anything. Ironsi met a Nigeria with a structural arrangement of 4 Regions and he left a structural arrangement of 4 Regions.

The people who restructured Nigeria are those who took Nigeria from 4 Regions to 36 states. Ironsi did not do that

I don't know how you could still continue arguing along this line (going around in circles).

Are you denying that Ironsi did not enact decree 34 on 24 May 1966 or that decree 34 was a lie because it did not exist?
Are you also that decree 34 did not replace the regions with provinces (which he called Group of Provinces); if not, then what is your point?

Ok, lets even assume he did not; that he only centralised the government?

Please then tell me, isn't stripping the regions off their independence and making them answerable to the central government exactly the fundamental difference and mistake we have inherited from his legacy till today?

Even Wikipedia had this to say about Ironsi and decree 34:

Though Ironsi tried to dispel this notion by courting the aggrieved ethnic groups through political appointments and patronage, his failure to punish the coup plotters and the promulgation of the now infamous "Decree No. 34"—which abrogated the country's federal structure in exchange for a unitary one— crystallized this conspiracy theory.[12]

Kindly then explain what the above in bold pertaining to the decree meant?

So what are we talking about?

Were Igbos not the first to derail our democracy by military coup, restructure and tamper with our governance system and therefore ultimately responsible for our present wahala?

In short, they were the ones that upset the apple cart for which they are now blaming northerners for - take or leave it.
Ironsi did not replace anything with anything. The way the 4 Regions were when he came is the way they were when he left. Eg. The Eastern Region was made was made up of 20 provinces before Ironsi came in. Basically the Eastern Region was a 'group of 20 provinces' before Ironsi came and that is the way it was when Ironsi left. Each of the 4 Regions were 'groups of provinces'.

The only thing Ironsi did was centralise Government, he did not touch the boundaries of any of the 4 Regions.

Pls stop behaving like a dunce; yes there were provinces then; Ironsi quite clearly replaced the regions (consisting of the provinces) and renamed them as GROUP of PROVINCES along with loss of their hitherto autonomy by making them more answerable to the central government - can't you read?

He furthermore dismantled the regional civil service and unified them as a single entity under the central government (FG) - a move which was designed to favour the Igbos, who then dominated the civil service.

Abeg go park one side; you cannot rewrite history.
I agree with all this and I even said that Ironsi took some powers from the Regions and centralised Government.

What I disagree with is this talk that Ironsi abolished and dissolved the 4 Regions?

How could he have done tbis but all 4 Regions were still in existence a full year after he died?

How can someone abolish something but it still exists?

I do not want to believe you actually read decree 34 because if you did then you must have read it blindly without comprehension.
As already mentioned, he replaced the old regions with provinces as per para 2 subsection 1c of the decree as follows:

the provinces, including Kaduna capital territory, in schedule 1 of this Decree which immediately before the appointed day were respectively comprised in Northern Nigeria, Eastern Nigeria, Western Nigeria and Mid-Western Nigeria shall be known respectively as the Northern group of Provinces, the Eastern group of Provinces, the Western group of Provinces and the Mid-Western group of Provinces;
https://dawodu.com/decree34.htm

Pls stop lying in the face of clear cut evidence.

I am glad to note you at least conceded to the fact that decree 34 centralised the government; pls then tell me what this effect would have had with regards to the autonomy of the the formers regions - who hitherto didn't have to take orders from the central government?

Deny as much as you like; however, your views alone cannot rewrite history and the fact that Ironsi abolished the regions and was responsible for the unitary system of government we have inherited till today along with all its ills.
Sorry bro but you have no point. Before decree 34, each of the 4 Regions were comprised of provinces. In effect, each Region was a 'group of provinces'. The Eastern Region was comprised of 20 provinces such as Aba Province. So what is the big deal with what you sited? The change of name?

You are wrong on all levels. Even though you rely on semantics to absolve Ironsi of destroying Nigeria's regional structure, you are still wrong semantically.
Ironsi met 4 semi autonomous regions , he left 4 unitary provinces .
Gowon met 4 unitary provinces and left 12 unitary states .
So who destroyed our semi autonomous regions?
You are saying the same thing Im saying without knowing it. Province and Region both mean the same thing, the both mean 'an area'.

Let me put this in lay man's terms so that you will understand

Lets say Ironsi took control of a compund with 4 duplex buildings with tenants. Ironsi changes the 'tenancy agreement' but leaves the 4 buildings standing and leaves.

Gowon takes control of the same compound with 4 duplex buildings. Not only does Gowon change the Tenancy agreement, he knocks down all four buildings replaces them with 12 Bungalows.

Between Gowon and Ironsi, which of them made the compound unrecognisable?

Another thing people dont understand is that military decrees are all temporary laws. They all give way whenever civilian rule returns.

Had Gowon kept the 4 Regions the way Ironsi did, Nigeria would gave reverted back to the laws of pre-Ironsi times. A federation of 4 Regions.

But when Gowon divided the 4 Regions into 12 states, he made it impossible because when civilians returned, the 4 Regions were gone. There was nothing to back to.

The tenancy agreement was never as important as the 4 duplexes, the agreement could always be changed, but when duplexes were gone, they were gone forever.

Gowon was the real person who destroyed Regionalism with his stupid 'state creation' exercise

What do you mean by decree 34 only centralized government, it did not abolish the regions? The statement is a paradox. It is either power is centralized at the centre or devolved to the regions, it cannot be both ways. Decree 34 converted the regions to States under a centralized government. That was why Gowon was able to divide the states further to 12.
Are you saying that decree 34 allowed the States to run their own regional governments with premiers and houses of assembly?

Whether you attempt to revise history or not, General Ironsi abolished regional governments in Nigeria.
The statement is in no way a paradox. Ironsi met 4 Regions, he left 4 Regions. If people said that Ironsi changed the way the 4 Regions operated then thats a fair comment, but to say that Ironsi abolished and dissolved the Regions is bare faced lie.

As I said before, Ironsi met 4 Regions, he left 4 Regions. Gowon met 4 Regions, he left 12 states.

So who do you think abolished the Regions between Ironsi and Gowon?
